Local scour, a non-negligible factor in hydraulic engineering, endangers the safety of hydraulic structures. In this work, a numerical model for simulating local scour was constructed, based on the open source code computational fluid dynamics model Open FOAM. We consider both the bedload and suspended load sediment transport in the scour model and adopt the dynamic mesh method to simulate the evolution of the bed elevation. We use the finite area method to project data between the three-dimensional flow model and the two-dimensional(2D) scour model. We also improved the 2D sand slide method and added it to the scour model to correct the bed bathymetry when the bed slope angle exceeds the angle of repose. Moreover, to validate our scour model, we conducted and compared the results of three experiments with those of the developed model. The validation results show that our developed model can reliably simulate local scour. 展开更多

Unsteady cavitating turbulent flow around twisted hydrofoil is simulated with Zwart cavitation model combined with the filter-based density correction model(FBDCM).Numerical results simulated the entire process of the 3-D cavitation shedding including the re-entrant jet and side-entrant jet dynamics and were compared with the available experimental data.The distribution of finite-time Lyapunov exponent(FTLE) was used to analyze the 3-D behavior of the re-entrant jet from the Lagrangian viewpoint,which shows that it can significantly influence the particle trackers in the attached cavity.Further analysis indicates that the different flow behavior on the suction side with different attack angle can be identified with Lagrangian coherent structures(LCS).For the area with a large attack angle,the primary shedding modifies the flow pattern on the suction side.With the decrease in attack angle,the attached cavity tends to be steady,and LCS A is close to the upper wall.A further decrease in attack angle eliminates LCS A in the boundary layer.The FTLE distribution also indicates that the decreasing attack angle induces a thinner boundary layer along the foil surface on the suction side. 展开更多

This paper is concerned with a mathematical model for two-dimensional strong turbulence flow with free surface including the effects of streamline curvature in orthogonal curvilinear coordinate system, with which the characteristics of the turbulence flow field on the ogee spillway was numerical simulated. In the numerical simulation, the flow control equations in orthogonal curvilinear coordinate system were discretized by the finite volume method, the physical parameters( P, U,V,K,ε,γt , etc. ) were arranged on a staggered grid, the discretized equations were solved with the SIMPLEC method, and the complex free surface was dealt with VOF method. The computed results show that the velocity fields, pressure field, shear stress distribution and kinetic energy of turbulent flow on the ogee spillway are in agreement with experimental data. This confirms that the model can be used for numerieal simulation of the turbulence flow on ogee spillway. 展开更多

The unsteady turbulent cloud cavitation around a NACA66 hydrofoil was simulated using the filter-based density corrected model(FBDCM). The cloud cavitation was treated as a homogeneous liquid-vapor mixture and the effects of turbulent eddy viscosity were reduced in cavitation regions near the hydrofoil and in the wake. The numerical results(in terms of the vapor shedding structure and transient pressure pulsation due to cavitation evolution) agree well with the available experimental data, showing the validity of the FBDCM method. Furthermore, the interaction of vortex and cavitation was analyzed based on the vorticity transport equation, revealing that the cavitation evolution has a strong connection with vortex dynamics. A detailed analysis shows that the cavitation could promote the vortex production and flow unsteadiness by the dilatation and baroclinic torque terms in the vorticity transport equation. 展开更多

In order to meet the turbulence situation, a beam pointing method that cooperates with the stochastic parallel gradient descent(SPGD) algorithm is proposed. The power-in-the-bucket(PIB) is chosen as the merit function, and its radius changes gradually during the correction process. The linear radius and the exponential radius are simulated. Performance of a PPM hard decision-based ARQ-FSO system in a weak turbulence channel

We present an automatic repeat request(ARQ) free space optical(FSO) system, which consists of a pulse position modulation(PPM) hard decision and an ARQ. The new ARQ's data error detection is based on a PPM hard decision's results and can eliminate the traditional ARQ information redundancy. The results of the numerical simulation have a good agreement with theoretical analysis and show that the ARQ-FSO system can effectively improve the bit error rate(BER) performance of the direct hard decision PPM system. Additionally, the proposed system significantly improves the average throughput efficiency compared to traditional ARQ systems.These characteristics make the ARQ-FSO system suitable for application in low BER and complexity FSO scenarios. 展开更多
