The mathematical models for both gas column pressure and two-phase fluid column pressure were developed based on the well liquid flow equation. FBHPs during the production were predicted by considering the effect of entrained liquid on gravitational gradients. Comparison of calculated BHPs by Cullender-Smith and proposed method was also studied. The results show that the proposed algorithm gives the desired accuracy of calculating BHPs in the low- productivity and low-pressure CBM wells. FBHP is resulted from the combined action of wellhead pressure, gas column pressure and fluid column pressure. Variation of kinetic energy term, compressibility and friction factors with depth increments and liquid holdup with velocity should be considered to simulate the real BHPs adequately. BHP is a function of depth of each column segment. The small errors of less than 1.5% between the calculated and measured values are obtained with each segment within 25 m. Adjusting BHPs can effectively increase production pressure drop, which is beneficial to CBM desorption and enhances reservoir productivity. The increment of pressure drop from 5.37 MPa2 to 8.66 MPa2 leads to an increase of CBM production from 3270 m3/d to 6700 m3/d and is attributed to a decrease in BHP from 2.25 MPa to 1.33 MPa.展开更多

The column was operated at pressures ranging from 0.3 MPa to 2.0MPa with nitrogen and water flowing countercurrently through the packing. The amount of axial backmixing was experimentally evaluated by the pulse response techniques using hydrogen in gas phase and an aqueous solution of NaCl in liquid phase as inert tracers. The response of the tracer was monitored by means of thermal conductivity in the gas phase and electrical conductance in the liquid phase. The experimentally determined residence time distribution (RTD) curves were interpreted in terms of the diffusion-type modei. The results indicated that the axial backmixing in the gas increased notably with gas flowrate and slightly with operating pressure and liquid flowrate. The liquid-phase axial backmixing was an increasing function of both gas and liquid flowrates and insensitive to pressure. Various correlations were developed for reproducing the experimental mixing data. The agreement between experimental and correlated data appeared to be acceptable and within ±20% of difference.展开更多

Signals obtained from a Venturi meter were decomposed into different intrinsic mode functions (IMFs) with HHT, then the energy fraction of each intrinsic mode and the mean value of residual function were calculated, from which the rules of flow regime identification were summarized. Experiments were carried out on two-phase flow in the horizontal tubes with 50mm and 40mm inner diameter, while water flowrate was in the range of 1.3m^3.h^-1 to 10.5m^3.h^-1, oil flowrate was from 4.2m^3.h^-1 to 7.0m^3.h^-1 and gas flowrate from 0 to 15m^3.h^-1. The results show that the proposed rules have high precision for single phase, bubbly, and slug, plug flow regirne identification, which are independent of not only properties of two-phase fluid. In addition, the method can meet the need of industrial application because of its simple calculation.展开更多

This relationship is usually determined under the static condition, where capillary pressure is the only function of saturation. However, considerable experiments have suggested that the dependence of capillary pressure on desaturation rate is under the dynamic condition. Thus, a more general description of capillary pressure that includes dynamic capillary effect has been approved widely. A comprehensive understanding of the dynamic capillary effect is needed for the investigation of the two-phase flow in porous media by various methods. In general, dynamic capillary effect in porous media can be studied through the laboratory experiment, pore-to macro-scale modeling, and artificial neural network. Here, main principle and research procedures of each method are reviewed in detail. Then, research progress, disadvantages and advantages are discussed, respectively. In addition, upscaling study from pore-to macro-scale are introduced, which explains the difference between laboratory experiment and pore-scale modeling. At last, several future perspectives and recommendations for optimal solution of dynamic capillary effect are presented.展开更多

An estimated total volume of 2.73×106 m3 of construction spoils was mobilized during this event. The landslide traveled a long distance on a low-relief terrain. The affected area was approximately 1100 m in length and 630 m in width. This landslide made 33 buildings destroyed, 73 people died and 4 people lost. Due to the special dumping history and other factors, soil in this landfill is of high initial water content. To identify the major factors that attribute to the long runout character, a two-phase flow model of Iverson and George was used to simulate the dynamics of this landslide. The influence of initial hydraulic permeability, initial dilatancy, and earth pressure coefficient was examined through numerical simulations. We found that pore pressure has the most significant effect on the dynamic characteristics of Shenzhen landslides. Average pore pressure ratio ofthe whole basal surface was used to evaluate the degree of liquefaction for the sliding material. The evolution and influence factors of this ratio were analyzed based on the computational results. An exponential function was proposed to fit the evolution curve of the average pore pressure ratio, which can be used as a reasonable and simplified evaluation of the pore pressure. This fitting function can be utilized to improve the single-phase flow model.展开更多

The buildup type curves or buildup behavior could be obtained through the solution by using su-perposition. But a new outer boundary condition for variable pressure boundary must be introduced to obtain the correct pressure buildup solutions by superposition. A technique is shown to determine the deviation time from the infinite-acting semilog radial flow stabilization in the derivatives of pressure, which is calculated with respect to and plotted vs. shut-in time. Field examples are given to illustrate the use of the proposed method for analyzing transient pressure data from a well located in a multi-well water-injection reservoir. An adaptive genetic algorithm-based method is used to match the pressure and pressure derivative data to estimate reservoir parameters. The validity and applicability of the proposed method are also demonstrated through the examples.展开更多

Bubble formation in a flow-focusing microchannel is simulated by the method. The influences of flow rate ratio, surface tension, wetting properties, and rheological characteristics of the fluid on the two-phase flow are analyzed. The results indicate that the flow pattern transfers from slug flow to dry-plug flow with a sufficiently small capillary number. Due to the presence of three-phase contact lines, the contact angle has a more significant effect on the dry-plug flow pattern than on the slug flow pattern. The deformation of the front and rear meniscus of a bubble in the shear-thinning fluid can be explained by the variation of the capillary number. The reduced viscosity and increased contact angle are beneficial for the drag reduction in a microchannel. It also demonstrates the effectiveness of the current method to simulate the gas–liquid two-phase flow in a microchannel.展开更多

文摘While experimental designs developed in recent decades have contributed to research on dynamic nonequilibrium effects in transient two-phase flow in porous media, this problem has been seldom investigated using direct numerical simulation(DNS).Only a few studies have sought to numerically solve Navier—Stokes equations with level-set(LS)or volume-of-fluid(VoF)methods,each of which has constraints in terms of meniscus dynamics for various flow velocities in the control volume(CV)domain. The Shan—Chen multiphase multicomponent lattice Boltzmann method(SC-LBM)has a fundamental mechanism to separate immiscible fluid phases in the density domain without these limitations. Therefore, this study applied it to explore two-phase displacement in a single representative elementary volume(REV)of two-dimensional(2D)porous media. As a continuation of a previous investigation into one-step inflow/outflow in 2D porous media, this work seeks to identify dynamic nonequilibrium effects on capillary pressure—saturation relationship(P_(c)—S)for quasi-steady-state flow and multistep inflow/outflow under various pressure boundary conditions. The simulation outcomes show that P_(c),S and specific interfacial area(a_(nw))had multistep-wise dynamic effects corresponding to the multistep-wise pressure boundary conditions. With finer adjustments to the increase in pressure over more steps, dynamic nonequilibrium effects were significantly alleviated and even finally disappeared to achieve quasisteady-state inflow/outflow conditions.Furthermore, triangular wave-formed pressure boundary conditions were applied in different periods to investigate dynamic nonequilibrium effects for hysteretical Pc—S.The results showed overshoot and undershoot of P_(c)to S in loops of the nonequilibrium hysteresis. In addition, the flow regimes of multistep-wise dynamic effects were analyzed in terms of Reynolds and capillary numbers(Re and Ca).The analysis of REV-scale flow regimes showed higher Re(1<Re<10)for more significant dynamic nonequilibrium effects. This indicates that inertia is critical for transient twophase flow in porous media under dynamic nonequilibrium conditions.

文摘An experimental study of the extent of axial backmixing in both gas and liquid phases was conducted in a 150 mm ID column packed with Mellapak 250Y corrugated structured packing. The agreement between experimental and correlated data appeared to be acceptable and within ±20% of difference.

文摘The accurate prediction of the pressure distribution of highly viscous fluids in wellbores and pipelines is of great significance for heavy oil production and transportation. The flow behavior of high-viscosity fluids is quite different with respect to that of low-viscosity fluids.Currently, the performances of existing pressure-drop models seem to be relatively limited when they are applied to high-viscosity fluids. In this study,a gas-liquid two-phase flow experiment has been carried out using a 60 mm ID horizontal pipe with air and white oil.The experimental results indicate that viscosity exerts a significant influence on the liquid holdup and pressure drop.At the same gas and liquid volume, both the liquid holdup and pressure drop increase with an increase in the viscosity.Combining two existing models,a modified pressure drop method is developed, which is applicable to horizontal pipes for different viscosities and does not depend on the flow pattern. This new method displays a high accuracy in predicting the new experimental data presented here and other published data in literature.

文摘In order to research start-up pressure wave propagation mechanism and determine pressure wave speed in gelled crude oil pipelines accurately, experiment of Large-scale flow loop was carried out.In the experiment,start-up pressure wave speeds under various operation conditions were measured, and effects of correlative factors on pressure wave were analyzed. The experimental and theoretical analysis shows that thermal shrinkage and structural properties of gelled crude oils are key factors influencing on start-up pressure wave propagation. The quantitative analysis for these effects can be done by using volume expansion coefficient and structural property parameter of gelled crude oil.A new calculation model of pressure wave speed was developed on the basis of Large-scale flow loop experiment and theoretical analysis.

文摘A new method to identify flow regime in two-phase flow was presented, based on signal processing of differential pressure using Hilbert Huang transform (HHT). In addition, the method can meet the need of industrial application because of its simple calculation.

文摘The relationship between capillary pressure and saturation plays a critical role in the characterization of two-phase flow and transport in aquifers and oil reservoirs. At last, several future perspectives and recommendations for optimal solution of dynamic capillary effect are presented.

文摘A catastrophic landslide occurred at Hongao dumpsite in Guangming New District of Shenzhen, South China, on December 20, 2015. This fitting function can be utilized to improve the single-phase flow model.

文摘During deepwater managed pressure drilling(MPD),the gas kick may occur in abnormally high-pressure formations. If the traditional well control method is adopted, the treatment time is long and the advantage of early gas kick detection of MPD is lost. The dynamic managed pressure well-control(MPWC)method can be used to rapidly treat gas kick in deepwater MPD.In this paper, considering the effect of large-variable-diameter annulus and complex wellbore temperature in deepwater drilling,a simplified model of non-isothermal gas-liquid two-phase flow was established for dynamic deepwater MPWC simulation.Using this model, the response characteristics of outlet flow and wellhead backpressure were investigated. The results indicated that the gas fraction, outlet liquid flow rate, pit gain and wellhead backpressure presented complex alternating characteristics when gas moved upwards in the wellbore due to the large-variable-diameter annulus. The outlet liquid flow rate would be lower than the inlet flow rate and the pit gain would decrease before the gas moved to the wellhead. The variation trend of the wellhead backpressure was consistent with that of the pit gain. When the gas-liquid mixture passed through the choke, the expansion or compression of the gas caused part of the choke pressure drop to be supplemented or unloaded, delaying the response rate of the wellhead backpressure. The wellbore temperature, borehole diameter and seawater depth had different effects on outlet flow rate, pit gain and wellhead backpressure. This research could provide a new idea for well control methods in deepwater managed pressure drilling.

文摘In this paper, the basic equations of two-phase liquid metal flow in a magnetic field are de- rived, and specifically,two-phase liquid metal MHD flow in a rectangular channel is studied, and the expres- sions of velocity distribution of liquid and gas phases and the ratio K_0 of the pressure drop in two-phase MHD flow to that in single-phase are derived. Results of calculation show that the ratio K_0 is smaller than unity and decreases with increasing void fraction and Hartmann number because the effective electrical conduc- tivity in the two-phase case decreases.
文摘The time-dependent liquid film thickness and pressure drop were measured by using parallel-wire conductance probes and capacitance differential-pressure transducers. Applying the eddy viscosity theory and an appropriate correlation of interfacial sear stress,a new two-dimensional separated model of holdup and pressure drop of turbulent/turbulent gas-liquid stratified flow was presented. Prediction results agreed well with experimental data.

文摘The pressure drop prediction of wet gas across single-orifice plate in horizontal pipes had been solved satisfactorily under an annular-mist flow in the upstream of orifice plates. However, this pressure drop prediction is still not clearly determined when the upstream is in an intermittent flow or stratified flow, which is corresponding to a region of low FrG(gas phase Froude number)in the flow pattern map of wet gases. In this study, the wet gas pressure drop across a single-orifice plate was experimentally investigated in the low FrG region.By the experiment, the flow pattern transition in the downstream of single-orifice plates,as well as the effects of FrG and FrL(liquid phase Froude number)on UG(gas phase multiplier),were determined and compared when the upstream is in the flow pattern transition and the stratified flow region, respectively.Prediction performances were examined on the available pressure drop models. It was found that no model could be capable of jointly predicting the wet gas pressure drop in the low FrG region with an acceptable accuracy. With a new method of correlating FrG and FrL simultaneously, new correlations were proposed for the low FrG region.Among which the modified Chisholm model shows the best prediction accuracies, with the prediction deviations of UG being within 7%and 3%when the upstream is in flow pattern transition and stratified flow region, respectively.
文摘The development and application of a new solution is demonstrated for the type-curve analysis and in-terpretation of well test data from a multiwell reservoir system of both production and injection wells with two-phase flow. The validity and applicability of the proposed method are also demonstrated through the examples.

文摘A lattice Boltzmann method for gas–liquid two-phase flow involving non-Newtonian fluids is developed. It also demonstrates the effectiveness of the current method to simulate the gas–liquid two-phase flow in a microchannel.
