The technology of drilling tests makes it possible to obtain the strength parameter of rock accurately in situ. In this paper, a new rock cutting analysis model that considers the influence of the rock crushing zone(RCZ) is built. The formula for an ultimate cutting force is established based on the limit equilibrium principle. The relationship between digital drilling parameters(DDP) and the c-φ parameter(DDP-cφ formula, where c refers to the cohesion and φ refers to the internal friction angle) is derived, and the response of drilling parameters and cutting ratio to the strength parameters is analyzed. The drillingbased measuring method for the c-φ parameter of rock is constructed. The laboratory verification test is then completed, and the difference in results between the drilling test and the compression test is less than 6%. On this basis, in-situ rock drilling tests in a traffic tunnel and a coal mine roadway are carried out, and the strength parameters of the surrounding rock are effectively tested. The average difference ratio of the results is less than 11%, which verifies the effectiveness of the proposed method for obtaining the strength parameters based on digital drilling. This study provides methodological support for field testing of rock strength parameters. 展开更多

In dielectrometry,traditional analytical and numerical algorithms are difficultly employed in complex resonant cavities.For a special kind of structure(a rotating resonant cavity),the body of revolution finite-element method(BOR-FEM)is employed to calculate the resonant parameters and dielectric parameters.In this paper,several typical resonant structures are selected for analysis and verification.Compared with the resonance parameter values in the literature and the simulation results of commercial software,the error of the BOR-FEM calculation is less than 0.9%and a single solution time is less than 1 s.Reentrant coaxial resonant cavities loaded with dielectric materials are analyzed using this method and compared with simulation results,showing good agreement.Finally,in this paper,the established BOR-FEM method is successfully applied with a machined cavity for the accurate measurement of the complex dielectric constant of dielectric materials.The test specimens were machined from polytetrafluoroethylene,fused silica and Al_(2)O_(3),and the test results showed good agreement with the literature reference values. 展开更多

Improved calibration method for displacement transformation coefficient in optical and visual measurements

Optical and visual measurement technology is used widely in fields that involve geometric measurements,and among such technology are laser and vision-based displacement measuring modules(LVDMMs).The displacement transformation coefficient(DTC)of an LVDMM changes with the coordinates in the camera image coordinate system during the displacement measuring process,and these changes affect the displacement measurement accuracy of LVDMMs in the full field of view(FFOV).To give LVDMMs higher accuracy in the FFOV and make them adaptable to widely varying measurement demands,a new calibration method is proposed to improve the displacement measurement accuracy of LVDMMs in the FFOV.First,an image coordinate system,a pixel measurement coordinate system,and a displacement measurement coordinate system are established on the laser receiving screen of the LVDMM.In addition,marker spots in the FFOV are selected,and the DTCs at the marker spots are obtained from calibration experiments.Also,a fitting method based on locally weighted scatterplot smoothing(LOWESS)is selected,and with this fitting method the distribution functions of the DTCs in the FFOV are obtained based on the DTCs at the marker spots.Finally,the calibrated distribution functions of the DTCs are applied to the LVDMM,and experiments conducted to verify the displacement measurement accuracies are reported.The results show that the FFOV measurement accuracies for horizontal and vertical displacements are better than±15μm and±19μm,respectively,and that for oblique displacement is better than±24μm.Compared with the traditional calibration method,the displacement measurement error in the FFOV is now 90%smaller.This research on an improved calibration method has certain significance for improving the measurement accuracy of LVDMMs in the FFOV,and it provides a new method and idea for other vision-based fields in which camera parameters must be calibrated. 展开更多

To reduce the stitching error of circularity measurement of small cylindrical workpieces(Diameter less than 3 mm)by the segmenting-stitching method,arc contour extraction is analyzed in this paper.The coordinates of cross-sectional circle of a small cylindrical part are segmented into several equal arcs to be obtained by a two-dimensional coordinate measuring machine.The circularity contour of the small cylindrical part can be formed by stitching a series of arc contours which are calculated by the obtained arc coordinate data.Due to the different measuring pressure angles of different measuring positions,the accuracy of obtained arc coordinate points is different.The bigger the pressure angle is,the accurate the obtained arc coordinate data are.The experiments show that the accuracy of two ends of the arc data is not as good as the central part.Therefore,the two ends of the obtained arc data are appropriately to be cut off,namely,only the central part of the arc data are extracted to be used for the stitching.As a result,the mean value of the matching coefficient is enhanced by 12%,the deviation between the overlap part of the neighbouring arc contour is reduced by 26%,and the average curvature of the arc contours is improved with the extraction method.Thus,the accuracy of the stitched circularity contour can be improved by this extraction procedure in the segmenting-stitching method for the circularity measurement of the small cylindrical parts. 展开更多

The underlying basic aerodynamic principle is outlined, the phenomena in subsonic, supersonic and arc-heated jets are explored, and factors affecting the accuracy of the method are studied and discussed. Results show that the impulse method is reliable for indirect thrust measurement if certain basic requirements are met, and a simple guideline for its proper application is given. 展开更多

Permeability is a key parameter to describe fluid transport properties of porous medium; however, the permeability measurement is extremely difficult for tight porous medium, e.g. fine-grained rock or dense soil. In this paper, three methods for gas permeability measurement, i.e. steady state method, pulse decay method(PDM) and pressure oscillation method(POM), are first reviewed and then their advantages and drawbacks are discussed. Both analytical and numerical solutions of gas permeability are presented for the tight porous medium. The results show that the analytical method is relatively simple but only valid under certain conditions, whilst the numerical method is more robust and generic, which can take into account several factors such as porosity, saturation, gas leakage, and unconventional boundary conditions. The influence of the effective porosity on the permeability determination is further analyzed using the proposed numerical method. In this study, new pressure data interpretation procedures for PDM and POM are proposed, and the obtained results can serve as a guidance to define a proper method for permeability measurement of the tight porous medium. 展开更多

Although there are some multi-sensor methods for measuring the straightness and tilt errors of a linear slideway, they need to be further improved in some aspects, such as suppressing measurement noise and reducing precondition.In this paper, a new four-sensor method with an improved measurement system is proposed to on-machine separate the straightness and tilt errors of a linear slideway from the sensor outputs, considering the influences of the reference surface profile and the zero-adjustment values. The improved system is achieved by adjusting a single sensor to di erent positions. Based on the system, a system of linear equations is built by fusing the sensor outputs to cancel out the e ects of the straightness and tilt errors. Three constraints are then derived and supplemented into the linear system to make the coe cient matrix full rank. To restrain the sensitivity of the solution of the linear system to the measurement noise in the sensor outputs, the Tikhonov regularization method is utilized. After the surface profile is obtained from the solution, the straightness and tilt errors are identified from the sensor outputs. To analyze the e ects of the measurement noise and the positioning errors of the sensor and the linear slideway, a series of computer simulations are carried out. An experiment is conducted for validation, showing good consistency. The new four-sensor method with the improved measurement system provides a new way to measure the straightness and tilt errors of a linear slideway, which can guarantee favorable propagations of the residuals induced by the noise and the positioning errors. 展开更多

By focusing on the vulnerability of the structure of marine equipments, together with considering the randomness of meta-ocean load in statistics, a kind of analytical method of fatigue characteristics of marine structure based on full- scale and actual measurement of prototype is proposed. On the basis of short-term field measurement results of structural response, research is carried out on the fatigue analysis of hinge joints at the upper part of the Soft Yoke single point Mooring System (SYMS) by simultaneously monitoring the environmental load and considering the design criteria of offshore structure. Through analysis of finite element modeling, the time-histories of typical stress response are obtained, and then the assessment of fatigue damage at key hinge joints is conducted. The simulation results indicate that the proposed method can accurately analyze the fatigue damage of offshore engineering structure caused by the effect of wave load. The present analytical method of fatigue characteristics can be extended on other offshore engineering structures subjected to meta-ocean load. 展开更多

Monitoring these defects on a periodic basis enables the network rail managers to apply proactive measures to limit further damage. This paper discusses the measurement methods for rail corrugation with particular regard to the analysis tools for evaluating the thresholds of acceptability in re- lation to the tramway Italian transport system. Contact angle is an essential parameter to characterize substrate wettability.The measurement of contact angle in experiment and simulation is a complex and time-consuming task.In this paper,an improved method of measuring contact angle in multiphase lattice Boltzmann simulations is proposed,which can accurately obtain the real-time contact angle at a low temperature and larger density ratio.The three-phase contact point is determined by an extrapolation,and its position is not affected by the local deformation of flow field in the three-phase contact region.A series of simulations confirms that the present method has high accuracy and gird-independence.The contact angle keeps an excellent linear relationship with the chemical potential of the surface,so that it is very convenient to specify the wettability of a surface.The real-time contact angle measurement enables us to obtain the dynamic contact angle hysteresis on chemically heterogeneous surface,while the mechanical analyses can be effectively implemented at the moving contact line. 展开更多

The accurate measurement of parameters such as the cavity-loaded quality factor(Q_(L))and half bandwidth(f_(0.5))is essential for monitoring the performance of superconducting radio-frequency cavities.However,the conventional"field decay method"employed to calibrate these values requires the cavity to satisfy a"zero-input"condition.This can be challenging when the source impedance is mismatched and produce nonzero forward signals(V_(f))that significantly affect the measurement accuracy.To address this limitation,we developed a modified version of the"field decay method"based on the cavity differential equation.The proposed approach enables the precise calibration of f_(0.5) even under mismatch conditions.We tested the proposed approach on the SRF cavities of the Chinese Accelerator-Driven System Front-End Demo Superconducting Linac and compared the results with those obtained from a network analyzer.The two sets of results were consistent,indicating the usefulness of the proposed approach. 展开更多

A kicker is a critical component for beam injection and accumulation in circular particle accelerators. A ceramic slat kicker plated with a TiN conductive coating was applied in the Beijing Electron Positron Collider (BEPCII). However, the ceramic slat kicker has experienced several sudden malfunctions during the operation of the BEPCII in the past. With a reliable kicker structure, a three-metal-strip kicker can substitute the original ceramic slat kicker to maintain the operational stability of the BEPCII. A comparison of the numerical simulation was conducted for three kicker models, demonstrating the comprehensive advantage of the three-metal-strip kicker. Furthermore, impedance bench measurements were conducted on a prototype of a three-metal-strip kicker. The longitudinal beam-coupling impedance was measured using a vector network analyzer via the coaxial wire method. A satisfactory agreement was obtained between the numerical simulations and measurements. Based on the numerical simulation data, the loss factor was 0.01721 V/pC, and the effective impedance was 3.59 mΩ(σ=10 mm).The simulation of the heat deposition on each part of the kicker demonstrated that 84.4%of the parasitic loss of the beam was deposited on the metal strips, and the total heat deposition power on the kicker was between 113.3 and 131.5 W. The obtained heat deposition powers can be considered as a reference for establishing the cooling system. 展开更多

Content-based medical image retrieval(CBMIR)is a technique for retrieving medical images based on automatically derived image features.There are many applications of CBMIR,such as teaching,research,diagnosis and electronic patient records.Several methods are applied to enhance the retrieval performance of CBMIR systems.Developing new and effective similarity measure and features fusion methods are two of the most powerful and effective strategies for improving these systems.This study proposes the relative difference-based similarity measure(RDBSM)for CBMIR.The new measure was first used in the similarity calculation stage for the CBMIR using an unweighted fusion method of traditional color and texture features.Furthermore,the study also proposes a weighted fusion method for medical image features extracted using pre-trained convolutional neural networks(CNNs)models.Our proposed RDBSM has outperformed the standard well-known similarity and distance measures using two popular medical image datasets,Kvasir and PH2,in terms of recall and precision retrieval measures.The effectiveness and quality of our proposed similarity measure are also proved using a significant test and statistical confidence bound. 展开更多

Rail transit plays a key role in mitigating transportation system carbon emissions.Accurate measurement of urban rail transit carbon emission can help quantify the contribution of urban rail transit towards urban transportation carbon emission reduction.Since the whole life cycle of urban rail transit carbon emission measurement involves a wide range of aspects,a systematic framework model is required for analysis.This research reviews the existing studies on carbon emission of urban rail transit.First,the characteristics of urban rail transit carbon emission were determined and the complexity of carbon emission measurement was analyzed.Then,the urban rail transit carbon emission measurement models were compared and analyzed in terms of the selection of research boundaries,the types of greenhouse gas(GHG)emissions calculation,and the accuracy of the measurement.Following that,an intelligent station was introduced to analyze the practical application of digital collaboration technology and energy-saving and carbon-reducing system platforms for rail transit.Finally,the urgent problems and future research directions at this stage were discussed.This research presents the necessity of establishing a dynamic carbon emission factor library and the important development trend of system integration of carbon emission measurement and digital system technology. 展开更多

Static cracking agent(SCA)is actively investigated as an alternative to explosive blasting for rock breakage due to its immense expansion property.SCA can eliminate the negative effects of shock,noise and harmful gases encountered in explosive blasting processes.Accurate measurement and deep understanding of the expansive properties of SCAs are important in their industrial application.An improved outer pipe method(OPM),termed the upper end surface method(UESM),is proposed in this paper to overcome the shortcomings of the OPM in the expansive pressure measurement of SCAs.Numerical simulation is used to proof the concept and a mathematical model established to relate the internal pressure and the radial strains at different positions in the upper end surface method test equipment.The new equipment is calibrated using oil pressure and strain measurements.The calibrated equipment is then used to measure the expansion pressure of SCA at three different water contents to proof its potential.The differences in the measurements with OPM and UESM at three different moisture contents are less than 4%.The experimental results confirm the accuracy and applicability of the more user friendly and less expensive UESM in the measurement of the expansive pressures of SCAs. 展开更多

The lack of consistency when using base measures in data collection can affect both data preparation and data analysis. This paper analyzes the similarities and differences across three different views of measurement methods (ISO International Vocabulary on Metrology, ISO 15939, and ISO 25021), and uses a process proposed for the design of software measurement methods to analyze two examples of such methods selected from the literature. 展开更多

The development of axial length is an important factor that affects the prognosis of these children.However,when compared with the eyes of normal children,the mechanism of growth of the axial length is so complicated that the reported findings differ significantly in terms of the measuring apparatus,assessment methods,and statistical outcome,making the rule of axial length development still unclear. In this paper, we first review the process of axial length development in normal healthy children and compare different hypotheses about certain factors that could affect the development of axial length. The results of some current research about the characteristics of axial length development in congenital cataract children are then reviewed. Lastly, the advantages and disadvantages of current axial length measurements methods are compared and analyzed.The purpose of this review is to improve our understanding of the complexity and importance of axial length development and to suggest better use of axial length monitoring measurements in congenital cataract children for pediatric ophthalmologists,with the hope of offering assistance that will enhance long-term therapeutic effects for these children. 展开更多

Surface potential decay of polymers for electrical insulation can help to determine the dark conductivity for spacecraft charging analysis. Due to the existence of radiation-induced conductivity, it decays fast in the first few hours after irradiation and exponentially slowly for the remaining time. The measurement of dark conductivity with this method usually takes the slow part and needs a couple of days. Integrating the Fowler formula into the deep dielectric charging equations, we obtain a new expression for the fast decay part. The experimental data of different materials, dose rates and temperatures are fitted by the new expression. Both the dark conductivity and the radiation-induced conductivity are derived and compared with other methods. The result shows a good estimation of dark conductivity and radiation-induced conductivity in high-resistivity polymers, which enables a fast measurement of dielectric conductivity within about 600 rain after irradiation. 展开更多
