BACKGROUND The lack of specific predictors for type-2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM)severely impacts early intervention/prevention efforts.Elevated branched-chain amino acids(BCAAs:Isoleucine, leucine, valine)and aromatic amino acids(AAAs:Tyrosine, tryptophan, phenylalanine)show high sensitivity and specificity in predicting diabetes in animals and predict T2DM 10-19 years before T2DM onset in clinical studies. However, improvement is needed to support its clinical utility.AIM To evaluate the effects of body mass index(BMI)and sex on BCAAs/AAAs in new-onset T2DM individuals with varying body weight.METHODS Ninety-seven new-onset T2DM patients(<12 mo)differing in BMI[normal weight(NW),n=33,BMI=22.23±1.60;overweight,n=42,BMI=25.9±1.07;obesity(OB),n=22,BMI=31.23±2.31]from the First People’s Hospital of Yunnan Province,Kunming,China, were studied.One-way and 2-way ANOVAs were conducted to determine the effects of BMI and sex on BCAAs/AAAs.RESULTS Fasting serum AAAs,BCAAs,glutamate, and alanine were greater and high-density lipoprotein(HDL)was lower(P<0.05,each)in OB-T2DM patients than in NW-T2DM patients, especially in male OB-T2DM patients.Arginine, histidine, leucine, methionine, and lysine were greater in male patients than in female patients. Moreover, histidine, alanine, glutamate, lysine, valine, methionine, leucine, isoleucine, tyrosine, phenylalanine, and tryptophan were significantly correlated with abdominal adiposity, body weight and BMI,whereas isoleucine, leucine and phenylalanine were negatively correlated with HDL.CONCLUSION Heterogeneously elevated amino acids, especially BCAAs/AAAs,across new-onset T2DM patients in differing BMI categories revealed a potentially skewed prediction of T2DM development. The higher BCAA/AAA levels in obese T2DM patients would support T2DM prediction in obese individuals, whereas the lower levels of BCAAs/AAAs in NW-T2DM individuals may underestimate T2DM risk in NW individuals. This potentially skewed T2DM prediction should be considered when BCAAs/AAAs are to be used as the T2DM predictor. 展开更多

This editorial synthesizes insights from a series of studies examining the interplay between metabolic and oxidative stress biomarkers in cardiovascular disease(CVD),focusing particularly on type-2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM)and acute coronary syndrome(ACS).The central piece of this synthesis is a study that investigates the balance between oxidative stress and antioxidant systems in the body through the analysis of serum bilirubin andγ-glutamyltranspeptidase(γ-GGT)levels in T2DM patients with ACS.This study highlights serum bilirubin as a protective antioxidant factor, while elevatedγ-GGT levels indicate increased oxidative stress and correlate with major adverse cardiovascular events.Complementary to this, other research contributions revealγ-GGT’s role as a risk factor in ACS,its association with cardiovascular mortality in broader populations, and its link to metabolic syndrome, further elucidating the metabolic dysregulation in CVDs.The collective findings from these studies underscore the critical roles ofγ-GGT and serum bilirubin in cardiovascular health, especially in the context of T2DM and ACS.By providing a balanced view of the body’s oxidative and antioxidative mechanisms, these insights suggest potential pathways for targeted interventions and improved prognostic assessments in patients with T2DM and ACS.This synthesis not only corroborates the pivotal role ofγ-GGT in cardiovascular pathology but also introduces the protective potential of antioxidants like bilirubin, illuminating the complex interplay between T2DM and heart disease. These studies collectively underscore the critical roles of serum bilirubin andγ-GGT as biomarkers in cardiovascular health, particularly in T2DM and ACS contexts, offering insights into the body’s oxidative and antioxidative mechanisms. This synthesis of research supports the potential of these biomarkers in guiding therapeutic strategies and improving prognostic assessments for patients with T2DM and some CVD. 展开更多

BACKGROUND Cardiovascular disease is a major complication of diabetes mellitus(DM).Type-2 DM(T2DM)is associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular events and mortality, while serum biomarkers may facilitate the prediction of these outcomes.Early differential diagnosis of T2DM complicated with acute coronary syndrome(ACS)plays an important role in controlling disease progression and improving safety.AIM To investigate the correlation of serum bilirubin andγ-glutamyltranspeptidase(γ-GGT)with major adverse cardiovascular events(MACEs)in T2DM patients with ACS.METHODS The clinical data of inpatients from January 2022 to December 2022 were analyzed retrospectively.According to different conditions, they were divided into the T2DM complicated with ACS group(T2DM+ACS,n=96),simple T2DM group(T2DM,n=85),and simple ACS group(ACS,n=90).The clinical data and laboratory indices were compared among the three groups, and the correlations of serum total bilirubin(TBIL)levels and serumγ-GGT levels with other indices were discussed.T2DM+ACS patients received a 90-day follow-up after discharge and were divided into event(n=15)and nonevent(n=81)groups according to the occurrence of MACEs;Univariate and multivariate analyses were further used to screen the independent influencing factors of MACEs in patients.RESULTS The T2DM+ACS group showed higherγ-GGT,total cholesterol,low-density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C)and glycosylated hemoglobin(HbA1c)and lower TBIL and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels than the T2DM and ACS groups(P<0.05).Based on univariate analysis, the event and nonevent groups were significantly different in age(t=3.3612,P=0.0011),TBIL level(t=3.0742,P=0.0028),γ-GGT level(t=2.6887,P=0.0085),LDL-C level(t=2.0816,P=0.0401),HbA1c level(t=2.7862,P=0.0065)and left ventricular ejection fraction(LEVF)levels(t=3.2047,P=0.0018).Multivariate logistic regression analysis further identified that TBIL level and LEVF level were protective factor for MACEs,and age andγ-GGT level were risk factors(P<0.05).CONCLUSION Serum TBIL levels are decreased andγ-GGT levels are increased in T2DM+ACS patients, and the two indices are significantly negatively correlated.TBIL andγ-GGT are independent influencing factors for MACEs in such patients. 展开更多

BACKGROUND The role of physical activity in diabetes is critical, influencing this disease's development,man-agement,and overall outcomes. In China,22.3%of adults do not meet the minimum level of physical activity recommended by the World Health Organization. Therefore,it is imperative to identify the factors that contributing to lack of physical activity must be identified.AIM To investigate the relationship among delay discounting, delay aversion, glycated hemoglobin(HbA1c),and various levels of physical activity in Chinese adults diagnosed with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM).METHODS In 2023,400 adults with T2DM were recruited from the People's Hospital of Linxia Hui Autonomous Prefecture of Gansu Province.A face-to-face questionnaire was used to gather demographic data and details on physical activity, delay discounting, and delay aversion. In addition,HbA1c levels were measured in all 400 participants. The primary independent variables considered were delay discounting and delay aversion. The outcome variables included HbA1c levels and different intensity levels of physical activity, including walking, moderate physical activity, and vigorous physical activity.Multiple linear regression models were utilized to assess the relationship between delay discounting, delay aversion, and HbA1c levels, along with the intensity of different physical activity measured in met-hours per week.RESULTS After controlling for the sample characteristics, delay discounting was negatively associated with moderate physical activity(β=-2.386,95%CI:-4.370 to-0.401).Meanwhile,delay aversion was negatively associated with the level of moderate physical activity(β=-3.527,95%CI:-5.578 to-1.476)in the multiple linear regression model, with statistically significant differences.CONCLUSION Elevated delay discounting and increased delay aversion correlated with reduced levels of moderate physical activity.Result suggests that delay discounting and aversion may influence engagement in moderate physical activity. This study recommends that health administration and government consider delay discounting and delay aversion when formulating behavioral intervention strategies and treatment guidelines involving physical activity for patients with T2DM,which may increase participation in physical activity. This study contributes a novel perspective to the research on physical activity in adults with T2DM by examining the significance of future health considerations and the role of emotional responses to delays. 展开更多

The worldwide epidemic of obesity and its medical complications are being dealt with a combination of life style changes(e.g.,healthier diet and exercise),medications and a variety of surgical interventions. The Roux-en Y gastric bypass(RYGB) and laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding(LAGB) are two of the most common weight loss surgeries for morbid obesityassociated metabolic syndrome and insulin resistance.A vast majority of patients that undergo RYGB and LAGB are known to experience marked weight loss and attenuation of diabetes.A number of recent studies have indicated that the rates of remission in glycemic control and insulin sensitivity are significantly greater in patients that have undergone RYGB.A plausible hypothesis to explain this observation is that the gastric bypass surgery as opposed to the gastric banding procedure impinges on glucose homeostasis by a weight loss-independent mechanism. In a recent paper,Bradley et al have experimentally explored this hypothesis. The authors compared several clinical and laboratory parameters of insulin sensitivity and β-cell function in cohorts of RYGB and LAGB patients before and after they lost approximately 20% of their body mass.Afterweight loss, both groups of patients underwent similar changes in their intra-abdominal and total adipose tissue volume, hepatic triglyceride and circulating leptin levels. The RYGB patients who lost 20% body mass, manifested higher postprandial output of glucose, insulin and glucagon-like peptide-1;these laboratory parameters remained unchanged in LABG patients.Irrespective of the observed differences in transient responses of RYGB and LAGB patients to mixed meal, the overall glycemic control as judged by glucose tolerance,multi-organ insulin sensitivity and β-cell function were nearly identical in the two groups. Both RYGB and LAGB patient cohorts also experienced similar changes in the expression of a number of pro-and anti-inflammatory markers.Based on these analyses,Bradley et al concluded that similar restoration of insulin sensitivity and b-cell function in non-diabetic obese patients that have undergone RYGB and LAGB were directly due to marked weight loss. These data have important implications for the risk/benefit analysis of weight loss therapy by bariatric procedures. 展开更多

AIM To examine the changes of the ghrelin/ghrelin O-acyltransferase(GOAT) axis and the mammalian target of rapamycin(m TOR) pathway in the hypothalamus after sleeve gastrectomy.METHODS A total of 30 obese type-2 diabetes Sprague-Dawley(SD) rats, 6 wk of age, fed with high-sugar and highfat fodder for 2 mo plus intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin were randomly divided into three groups: non-operation group(S0 group, n = 10), sham operation group(Sh group, n = 10) and sleeve gastrectomy group(SG group, n = 10). Data of body mass, food intake, oral glucose tolerance test(OGTT), acylated ghrelin(AG) and total ghrelin(TG) were collected and measured at the first day(when the rats were 6 wk old), preoperative day 3 and postoperative week 8. The m RNA expression of preproghrelin, GOAT and neuropeptide Y(NPY), and protein expression of ghrelin, GOAT, GHSR and the m TOR pathway(p-Akt, p-m TOR and p-S6) were measured in the hypothalamus.RESULTS SG can significantly improve metabolic symptoms by reducing body mass and food intake. The obese rats showed lower serum TG levels and no change in AG, but the ratio of AG/TG was increased. When compared with the S0 and Sh groups, the SG group showed decreased TG(1482.03 ± 26.55, 1481.49 ± 23.30 and 1206.63 ± 52.02 ng/L, respectively, P < 0.05), but unchanged AG(153.06 ± 13.74, 155.37 ± 19.30 and 144.44 ± 16.689 ng/L, respectively, P > 0.05). As a result, the ratio of AG/TG further increased in the SG group(0.103 ± 0.009, 0.105 ± 0.013 and 0.12 ± 0.016, respectively, P < 0.05). When compared with the S0 group, SG suppressed m RNA and protein levels of preproghrelin(0.63 ± 0.12 vs 0.5 ± 0.11, P < 0.05) and GOAT(0.96 ± 0.09 vs 0.87 ± 0.08, P < 0.05), but did not change NPY m RNA expression(0.61 ± 0.04 vs 0.65 ± 0.07, P > 0.05) in the hypothalamus. The protein levels of p-Akt, p-m TOR and p-S6 were higher in the SG group, which indicated that the hypothalamic m TOR pathway was activated after SG at the postoperative week 8. CONCLUSION The reduction of ghrelin expression and activation of the m TOR pathway might have opposite effects on food intake, as SG improves obesity and T2 DM. 展开更多

Using mice that lack retinaldehyde dehydrogenase 1 gene(Raldh1-/-mice),Kierfer et al demonstrated that retinoids(metabolites of Vitamin A) play an important role in the regulation of cellular metabolisms and energetics. The Aldh1a1-/-mice were leaner and less prone to accumulate subcutaneous and visceral fat,and to acquire insulin resistance on high fat diet.Their lower fasting glucose levels concomitant with reduced hepatic expression of glucose 6-phosphatase and phosphoenol pyruvate carboxy kinase genes indicated that Aldh1a1-/-mice were defective in gluconeogenesis. These mice also had lower plasma levels of triglycerides, very low-density lipoprotein and lowdensity lipoprotein-triacylglycerol,while their skeletal muscles elicited higher expression of carnitine palmatoyl transferase, medium chain acyl-A dehydrogenase, peroxisome proliferation activated receptor(PPARα and PPARδ.Thus, the improved lipid and lipoprotein profiles of Raldh1a1-/-mice resulted from a combination of reduced lipogenesis and enhanced fatty acid oxidation by retinoids. The mechanistic details of how retinoids integrate fasting glucose, hepatic gluconeogenesis and adaptive thermogenesis independent of body mass deserve further study. 展开更多

Introduction: Poorly controlled Type 2 diabetes is considered a major public health problem and associated with adverse outcomes in Jordan. Good diabetes knowledge may facilitate adaptation of healthy behaviors and improve patients’ adherence to their diabetes management plans. Purpose: To gain an in-depth understanding of attitudes, perceptions and knowledge of patients which underpin their behaviors in Jordan. Methods: 8 focus groups with 38 patients with poorly controlled Type 2 diabetes were conducted. The focus group sessions were audio recorded and transcribed. Thematic analysis was employed to analyze the qualitative data. All transcripts were uploaded into the qualitative data analysis software pack NVivo. Results: Patients reported the different ways in which they were diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. Most of the patients visited the health facility after experiencing signs and symptoms of diabetes, often for some time before seeking medical help. Stress and family history were perceived as causes of developing diabetes and reasons for poorly controlled diabetes. Fatalistic beliefs were shared when the patients were talking about the causes of diabetes, the reasons for developing diabetes and their inability to control their blood glucose levels. Patients also associated fatalistic attitudes with religious beliefs and the power of God as illness being in God’s hands. Patients’ responses also showed a poor understanding of the basic knowledge of diabetes. Conclusions: Effective health education programs need to be tailored to meet the individual needs of patients. Patients need to be provided with accurate information about medications, side effects and therapeutic effects. An educational program may rectify misconceptions among 展开更多

Objective: The study was conducted to evaluate the relation between insulin-like growth factor-1 and osteocalcin and markers of bone modulation (osteoprotegerin;OPG, receptor activator nuclear kappa B;RANK and RANK ligand;RANKL) in postmenopausal Type 2 diabetic women with and without osteoporosis. Methods: The study was conducted on 90 female divided into three groups (30 each). Group I included healthy postmenopausal women as a control, Group II included diabetic postmenopausal women without osteoporosis Group III included diabetic postmenopausal women with osteoporosis. Fasting blood samples were obtained for the determination of blood glucose, HbA1c, total and ionized calcium, OPG, RANK and RANKL. Also the levels of IGF-1 and osteocalcin were assessed. Results: In postmenopausal Type 2 diabetic women, the osteoporosis resulted in derangement in OPG/sRANKL system. The serum level of OPG was elevated while sRANKL declines in osteoporotic postmenopausal Type 2 diabetic women. IGF-1 level decreased in diabetic postmenopausal women but those women with osteoporosis showed a great decline by about 60%. IGF-1 level in osteoporotic diabetic postmenopausal women was correlated with BMD and most bone turnover markers (OPG, sRANKL, OPG/sRANKL). Osteocalcin declined significantly only in those women with osteoporosis not without osteoporosis. Conclusions: The circulating levels of OPG and sRANKL were not useful markers for bone status in postmenopausal women while the circulating levels of IGF-1 and osteocalcin might give useful information about bone status in postmenopausal diabetic women. 展开更多

Background of the Study, Aims and Objectives: There are very few studies on histological patterns of diabetic nephropathy in our part of country. The aim of this study was to evaluate the renal involvement in patients with Type-2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), assess the histopathological changes and establish a clinico-pathological correlation. Subjects, Method and Materials: Thirty two Type 2 DM patients with nephropathy, after screening consecutive hundred(100) Type 2 Diabetics admitted to the Medicine Department were evaluated for renal involvement by kidney biopsy and histopathological study. Statistical analysis was done by student’s t-test, chi-square and linear regression analysis. Results: Thirty two patients (32) with diabetic nephropathy (20 males and 12 females) formed the study group out of hundred (100) consecutive Type-2 diabetes mellitus patients (58 males and 42 females) admitted to Medicine Department of SCB Medical College Hospital, Cuttack. The frequency of occurrence of clinical diabetic nephropathy was 32%. Most of the patients were having duration of DM of 6-10 years (87.5%). Pedal edema was found in 96.87%, hypertension in 87.5% patients respectively. Regression analysis showed that durations of DM and HbA1c were the two significant risk factors (P Histopathologically, diffuse glomerulosclerosis was the most common form of renal abnormality found in 93.75% followed by nodular glomerulosclerosis in 62.50% with overlap in many patients, membranous nephropathy in 12.5% and focal necrotising glomerulonephritis in 6.25% respectively. There was no statistically significant clinicopathological correlation observed between clinical and biochemical parameters in patients harbouring the two predominant histological types of nephropathy i.e. diffuse and nodular glomerulosclerosis with respect to age, sex, duration of diabetes, body mass index, systolic blood pressure, HbA1c, 24 hour urinary protein, creatinine clearance, serum urea, serum creatinine or lipid profile. Conclusion: Durations of diabetes and HbA1c were found to be strongly associated with development of diabetic nephropathy. Diffuse glomerulosclerosis was the most common form of renal abnormality found in 93.75% followed by nodular glomerulosclerosis in 62.50% of patients. 展开更多

Objective:To compare the therapeutic effects of acupuncture with sham acupuncture on levels of fasting plasma glucose (FPG) and glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) among patients with type-2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) under treatment with metformin.Method:Eighty participants with T2DM were allocated randomly to treatment (n =40) and control (n =40) groups. In addition to metformin therapy, patients in the acupuncture group received acupoint stimulation with even manipulation at 15 acupoints, and needles were retained for 20 minutes. The sham-acupuncture group was treated with very small needles inserted at a very shallow depth (3-5 mm) without manipulation at non-acupoints 1 cm around the actual acupuncture points. Both groups were treated for 14 sessions during 10 weeks of treatment. The FPG level was measured before treatment as well as after 1,2,4,6 and 12 weeks of treatment. The HbA1c percentage was assessed once before treatment and once 12 weeks after treatment initiation. Results:Levels of FPG and HbA1c in both groups were reduced significantly in comparison with baseline measurements (both P <.01).However,acupuncture treatment led to a significant reduction in the FPG level as compared with sham acupuncture after 4 weeks or 10 sessions of treatment [mean difference (MD) =10.18,95% confidence interval (CI) =1.74 to 18.6,P =.019],after 6 weeks or 12 sessions of treatment (MD =10.53,95% CI =2.22 to 18.83,P =.014) and after 12-week follow-up (MD =8.8,95% Cl =0.66 to 16.94,P =.034).Acupuncture treatment reduced the HbA1c level significantly in comparison with that in the shamacupuncture group (MD =0.27,95%Cl =0.08 to 0.47,P =.007).Conclusion:Our study revealed that acupuncture (as a type of Chinese therapy) combined with metformin (as a conventional hypoglycemic medication) had a greater effect on glycemic control than that elicited in the placebo control group.Consequently, acupuncture could be used as adjuvant therapy among patients with T2DM. 展开更多

Globally, type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM)is one of the most common metabolic disorders.T2DM physiopathology is influenced by complex interrelationships between genetic, metabolic and lifestyle factors(including diet),which differ between populations and geographic regions. In fact, excessive consumptions of high fat/high sugar foods generally increase the risk of developing T2DM,whereas habitual intakes of plant-based healthy diets usually exert a protective effect. Moreover, genomic studies have allowed the characterization of sequence DNA variants across the human genome, some of which may affect gene expression and protein functions relevant for glucose homeostasis. This comprehensive literature review covers the impact of gene-diet interactions on T2DM susceptibility and disease progression, some of which have demonstrated a value as biomarkers of personal responses to certain nutritional interventions. Also, novel genotype-based dietary strategies have been developed for improving T2DM control in comparison to general lifestyle recommendations.Furthermore, progresses in other omics areas(epigenomics, metagenomics, proteomics, and metabolomics)are improving current understanding of genetic insights in T2DM clinical outcomes.Although more investigation is still needed, the analysis of the genetic make-up may help to decipher new paradigms in the pathophysiology of T2DM as well as offer further opportunities to personalize the screening, prevention, diagnosis, management, and prognosis of T2DM through precision nutrition. 展开更多

Background: Type 2 diabetes is a metabolic disease characterized by chronic hyperglycemia. The latter plays an essential role in inflammation by stimulating the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines or by increasing their secretion by an oxidative mechanism. These cytokines control the hepatic synthesis of an inflammatory protein called C-Reactive Protein (CRP). High or average values of CRP would have a predictive value of cardiovascular diseases and type 2 diabetes. The relationship between low CRP values and the risk of developing type 2 diabetes and its cardiovascular complications is not sufficiently studied. The hsCRP could serve as a predictive biomarker of risk of onset, follow-up and prognosis for type 2 diabetes and its cardiovascular complications. To answer this problem, we conducted this study, the aim of which was to study the predictive role of hsCRP in the risk of occurrence of type 2 diabetes and its cardiovascular complications. Materials and Methods: This is a prospective and cross-sectional case-control study involving 200 participants including 100 control women and 100 women with type 2 diabetes (mean age was respectively 49.89 years ± 8.26 & 51.92 years ± 7.18;p = 0.066). The interviews were conducted on the basis of a questionnaire. Physical examination collected biometric data and cardiovascular constants. The biochemical parameters such as hsCRP were analyzed by an automated Abbott device. Results: We noted that hsCRP was significantly higher in type 2 diabetic subjects compared to control subjects (p (rho = 0.40, p systolic blood pressure (rho = 0.30, p = 0.003), diastolic blood pressure (rho = 0.28, p = 0.006), total body fat (rho = 0.48, p Conclusion: hsCRP has a prognostic value in the evaluation of cardiovascular risk. It seems to play an important role in the pathogenesis of type 2 diabetes mellitus and its cardiovascular complications. It could thus be considered as a biomarker for the screening, monitoring and prognosis of type 2 diabetes mellitus. 展开更多

Dyslipidemia is a disorder where abnormally lipid concentrations circulate in the bloodstream. The disorder is common in type 2 diabetics (T2D) and is linked with T2D comorbidities, particularly cardiovascular disease. Dyslipidemia in T2D is typically characterized by elevated plasma triglyceride and low high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) levels. There is a significant gap in the literature regarding dyslipidemia in rural parts of Africa, where lipid profiles may not be captured through routine surveillance. This study aimed to characterize the prevalence and demo-graphic profile of dyslipidemia in T2D in the rural community of Ganadougou, Mali. We performed a cross-sectional study of 104 subjects with T2D in Ganadougou between November 2021 and March 2022. Demographic and lipid profiles were collected through cross-sectional surveys and serological analyses. The overall prevalence of dyslipidemia in T2D patients was 87.5% (91/104), which did not differ by sex (P = .368). High low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) was the most common lipid abnormality (78.9%, [82/104]). Dyslipidemia was associated with age and hypertension status (P = .013 and.036, respectively). High total and high LDL-C parameters were significantly associated with hypertension (P = .029 and .006, respectively). In low-resource settings such as rural Mali, there is a critical need to improve infrastructure for routine dyslipidemia screening to guide its prevention and intervention approaches. The high rates of dyslipidemia observed in Gandadougou, consistent with concomitant increases in cardiovascular diseases in Africa suggest that lipid profile assessments should be incorporated into routine medical care for T2D patients in African rural settings. 展开更多

Background: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a metabolic disease, characterized by chronic hyperglycemia. This pathology is linked to various genes whose interaction with the environment promotes its development. The aim of this work was to determine the relationship between the rs2241766 (T/G) polymorphism of the ADIPOQ gene with type 2 diabetes in the black population. Material and Methods: This work was a case-control study, involving type 2 diabetics subjects (n = 94) and controls (n = 82). The study took place from September 2022 to September 2023. Patients were recruited in the Endocrinology Department of the Libreville University Hospital Center. Analysis was performed in the Biochemistry laboratory of the University of Health Sciences in Libreville and at the Research Institute of Health Sciences of Bobodioulasso. Genomic DNA was extracted using the protocol Qiagen kit and the PCR-RFLP method was used to determine the rs2241766 (T/G) polymorphism of the ADIPOQ gene. Results: Only 2 genotypes were found in this population, the TT genotype and the GT genotype. The proportions were not different between the two groups (p = 0.1095) neither the distribution of G and T alleles (p = 0.1095). On the other hand, the HDL hypocholesterolemia was frequent in subjects with the GT genotype compared to TT heterozygous (51.1% vs 48.9%, p = 0.0280;OR = 0.55 [0.30 - 1.01]). Conclusion: There was no association between the rs2241766 (T/G) variant of the ADIPOQ gene and the occurrence of type 2 diabetes in this population. On the other hand, a relationship between HDL hypocholesterolemia and the GT genotype has been established. 展开更多
