Simultaneous estimation of aerosol optical constants and size distribution from angular light-scattering measurement signals 被引量:3

The angular light-scattering measurement(ALSM) method combined with an improved artificial bee colony algorithm is introduced to determine aerosol optical constants and aerosol size distribution(ASD) simultaneously. Meanwhile, an optimized selection principle of the ALSM signals based on the sensitivity analysis and principle component analysis(PCA)is proposed to improve the accuracy of the retrieval results. The sensitivity analysis of the ALSM signals to the optical constants or characteristic parameters in the ASD is studied first to find the optimized selection region of measurement angles. Then, the PCA is adopted to select the optimized measurement angles within the optimized selection region obtained by sensitivity analysis. The investigation reveals that, compared with random selection measurement angles, the optimized selection measurement angles can provide more useful measurement information to ensure the retrieval accuracy. Finally,the aerosol optical constants and the ASDs are reconstructed simultaneously. The results show that the retrieval accuracy of refractive indices is better than that of absorption indices, while the characteristic parameters in ASDs have similar retrieval accuracy. Moreover, the retrieval accuracy in studying L-N distribution is a little better than that in studying Gamma distribution for the difference of corresponding correlation coefficient matrixes of the ALSM signals. All the results confirm that the proposed technique is an effective and reliable technique in estimating the aerosol optical constants and ASD simultaneously. 展开更多

Cephalopods play key roles in global marine ecosystems as both predators and preys.Regressive estimation of original size and weight of cephalopod from beak measurements is a powerful tool of interrogating the feeding ecology of predators at higher trophic levels.In this study,regressive relationships among beak measurements and body length and weight were determined for an octopus species(Octopus variabilis),an important endemic cephalopod species in the northwest Pacific Ocean.A total of 193 individuals(63 males and 130 females) were collected at a monthly interval from Jiaozhou Bay,China.Regressive relationships among 6 beak measurements(upper hood length,UHL;upper crest length,UCL;lower hood length,LHL;lower crest length,LCL;and upper and lower beak weights) and mantle length(ML),total length(TL) and body weight(W) were determined.Results showed that the relationships between beak size and TL and beak size and ML were linearly regressive,while those between beak size and W fitted a power function model.LHL and UCL were the most useful measurements for estimating the size and biomass of O.variabilis.The relationships among beak measurements and body length(either ML or TL) were not significantly different between two sexes;while those among several beak measurements(UHL,LHL and LBW) and body weight(W) were sexually different.Since male individuals of this species have a slightly greater body weight distribution than female individuals,the body weight was not an appropriate measurement for estimating size and biomass,especially when the sex of individuals in the stomachs of predators was unknown.These relationships provided essential information for future use in size and biomass estimation of O.variabilis,as well as the estimation of predator/prey size ratios in the diet of top predators. 展开更多

A special experiment setup was designed to observe the interaction between bubbles and particle in flotation cell and to analyze the bubble characteristics such as bubble size, distribution and bubble-loading efficiency. Bubbles in water-gas system and three-phase system were measured. The results indicate that with the current setup the bubbles as small as 10 μm can be easily distinguished. The average size of the bubbles generated under the given conditions in two-phase system is 410 μm at frother concentration of 0.004%, which is in good correspondence with the results of other works. The effect of frother on bubble size was probed. Increasing frother concentration from 0 to 0.004% causes a reduction of bubble size from 700 to 400 μm. The bubble loading efficiency was reported. The result indicates that the fine particle is more easily entrapped than the coarse particle. Some factors, which have effect on measurement accuracy were discussed. The aeration speed has a significant effect on the accuracy of results, if it surpasses 30 mL/s, and the image becomes unclear due to the entrapment of fine particle. Another factor, which can affect observing results, is the sampling position. At a wrong sampling position, the images become unclear. 展开更多

Fast beam profile measurement is important in fast beam dynamic behavior investigations. A bunch-bybunch beam size measurement system, which is presently used to measure horizontal profile, has been developed at the Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility(SSRF) and is capable of measuring bunches within a separation of 2 ns.The system is based on a direct-imaging optical system and high-speed photomultiplier array detector. A high-bandwidth linear signal amplifier and acquisition module have also been designed to process bunch-by-bunch multichannel signals from the detector. The software resampling technique and principal component analysis method were developed to obtain the synchronized data and enhance the signal-to-noise ratio. The fast injection of transients was successfully captured and analyzed. Moreover, the bunchby-bunch positions and sizes exhibited strong oscillation after the injection at the horizontal betatron oscillation frequency of the SSRF storage ring, and this demonstrated the bunch-by-bunch measurement capability of our system. 展开更多

This paper presents the basic principles of particle size measurement and latest industrial results recorded using an innovative optical instrumentation system designed to measure the size distribution of particles in a pneumatic suspension.The system is non-intrusive and cost-effective.A low-cost CCD camera is used to capture images of the particulate flow field,which is illuminated by a low-cost pulsed laser sheet generator.The particle size distribution is then determined by processing the particle images through the use of novel processing algorithms.Experimental results obtained in the past on a small scale particle flow test rig have demonstrated that the system is capable of measuring the size distribution of pneumatically conveyed particles with an accuracy of a few percent.For the present paper results obtained when testing the system at a 4 MW industrial test facility are presented.Comparisons are made with both off-line reference data achieved through sieving and on-line laser diffraction data recorded using an intrusive,extractive,Malvern Instruments system.In general there is good agreement between results when considering the characteristics and limitations of the individual methodologies.The novel imaging system shows itself to be rugged,practical and useful under genuine industrial conditions. 展开更多

Accuracy of Protein Size Estimates Based on Light Scattering Measurements

There are two types of light scattering measurements: static light scattering (SLS) and dynamic light scattering (DLS). The SLS method is used to estimate the molecular weight (MW) of particles by measuring the time-averaged intensity of light scattered by the particles, whereas the DLS method is used to estimate the diffusion coefficient of particles by observing the time-correlation of scattered light intensity. These techniques have recently been applied to the investigation of the aggregation, denaturation and folding, and complex formation of proteins in solution. However, the accuracy of protein size measurement by light scattering is poorly understood. In the present study, we carried out the size measurements of five globular proteins by SLS and DLS at a detection angle of 90。 and compared these data to measurements made by size exclusion chromatography (SEC). The difference (%) between the MW estimated from each method and the MW calculated from the amino acid sequence (namely the calibration residual error) was regarded as an index of measurement accuracy. The averaged calibration residual errors were 5.2 and 4.7 for SEC and SLS measurements, respectively. For the DLS measurements, the extrapolation of the apparent hydrodynamic radii to a protein concentration of zero may effectively eliminate the interparticle and hydrodynamic interactions and significantly reduced the averaged calibration residual error to 4.8%. Our results suggested that the size of globular proteins can be estimated using light scattering measurements with an accuracy equivalent to that of SEC. 展开更多

Background: Complications after endoscopic retrieval of kidney and ureter stones are obviously related to the size of the stones as well as the experience of the surgeon and other factors. During the procedure it is sometimes difficult for surgeons to estimate stone size and therefore give prognostic advises. The visual perception of the stone size depends on the shape, colour, distance to the renoscope and dilatation of the ureter. This is the so-called binding problem, because shape, color and direction of motion are processed separately by different population of optical neurons. In order to establish a better prognostic rational especially for less experienced surgeons, we established an intra operative semi-quantitative measurement of the stone size supported by a stone basket. Materials and Methods: We modified the tipped, nitinol stone baskets from the company Urotech with diameters of 2.5, 3.0 and 4 FR. The handle of this basket has a spring mechanism, which automatically closes the basket and provides a predefined fixation force of the stones within the basket. On the handle we established a non-linear scale in mm by grabbing standardized balls or standardized screws. Result: The scales are nonlinear because of the nonlinear relation between the diameter of the stone and the distance of the slider. Also the scales differ in between the basket size, because of the different strain conditions due to the different wire sizes and materials or the spring and basket. Conclusion: This scale could be an important orientation for a surgeon during endourological procedures to estimate stone sizes. After further clinical experience a semi-quantitative visualization like green, yellow and red colors could help to predict potential complications due to large stone sizes. Finally it could bevery interesting for other disciplines like gastroenterology. 展开更多

AIM: To investigate the correlation between preoperative measurement in total knee arthroplasty and the prosthetic size implanted. METHODS: A prospective double-blind study of 50 arthroplasties was performed. Firstly, the reliability and correspondence between the size of said measurement and the actual implant utilized was determined. Secondly, the existing correlation between the intra- and interobserver determinations with the intraclass correlation coefficient was analyzed. RESULTS: An overall correspondence of 54%, improving up to 92% when the measured size admitted a difference of one size, was found. Good intra- and interobserver reliability with an intraclass correlation coefficient greater than 0.90(P < 0.001) was also discovered. CONCLUSION: Agreement between the preoperative measurement with standardized acetate templates and the prosthetic size implanted can be considered satisfactory. We thus conclude it is a reproducible technique. 展开更多

The presence of embedded convection in stratiform clouds strongly affects ice microphysical properties and precipitation formation.In situ aircraft measurements,including upward and downward spirals and horizontal penetrations,were performed within both embedded convective cells and stratiform regions of a mixedphase stratiform cloud system on 22 May 2017.Supercooled liquid water measurements,particle size distributions,and particle habits in different cloud regions were discussed with the intent of characterizing the riming process and determining how particle size distributions vary from convective to stratiform regions.Significant amounts of supercooled liquid water,with maxima up to 0.6 g m−3,were observed between−3℃ and−6℃ in the embedded convective cells while the peak liquid water content was generally less than 0.1 g m−3 in the stratiform regions.There are two distinct differences in particle size distributions between convective and stratiform regions.One difference is the significant shift toward larger particles from upper−15℃ to lower−10℃ in the convective region,with the maximum particle dimensions increasing from less than 6000μm to over 1 cm.The particles larger than 1 cm at−10℃ are composed of dendrites and their aggregates.The other difference is the large concentrations of small particles(25–205μm)at temperatures between−3℃ and−5℃ in the convective region,where rimed ice particles and needles coexist.Needle regions are observed from three of the five spirals,but only the cloud conditions within the convective region fit into the Hallett-Mossop criteria. 展开更多

The effects of impeller speed, impeller type, impeller diameter and feed location on the mean particle size d43 and particle size distribution (PSD) were investigated, d43 and PSD were measured online using a Malvern Insitec Liquid Pro- cess Sizer every 20 s. It was found that d43 varied between 13 kwh and 26 lain under different operating conditions, and it decreased with increasing impeller diameter. When feeding at the off-bottom distance of D/2 under lower impeller speeds, d43 was significantly smaller than that at D/3. PSDs were slightly influenced by operating conditions. 展开更多

The focus of the measuring principles of the characteristic grain size is put on determining Sv of grains. Unlike the measurement of average grain size commonly used, G, correcting factors such as grain shape and grain size distribution factors, will not be applied to the determination of the characteristic grain size, Gc, due to its unique geometric meaning and the measure precision of Sv being guaranteed by quantitative stereological technique and gas adsorption method. Performance Improvement of the LM Device and Its Application to Precise Measurement of Motion Trajectories within a Small Range with a Machining Centre

In order to apply the LM device previously developed to precisely measuring small motion trajectories located on the different motion planes, three major improvements are successfully performed under the condition of completely maintaining the advantages of the device. These improvements include 1) development of a novel connection mechanism to smoothly attach the device to the spindle of a machining centre;2) employment of a new data sampling method to achieve a high sampling frequency independent of the operating system of the control computer;and 3) proposal of a set-up method to conveniently install the device on the test machining centre with respect to different motion planes. Practical measurement experiment results with the improved device on a machining centre sufficiently demonstrate the effectiveness of the improvements and confirm several features including a very good response to small displacement close to the resolution of the device, high precision, repeatability and reliance. Moreover, based on the measurement results for a number of trajectories for a wide range of motion conditions, the error characteristics of small size motions are systematically discussed and the effect of the movement size and feed rate on the motion accuracy is verified for the machining centre tested. 展开更多

木窗是一种以木材或木质复合材料为主要构件的门窗产品,具有良好的生态性能和美观效果,适用于多种建筑形式和风格,其中木窗尺寸是衡量木窗加工是否合格的重要指标。对于传统木窗双端铣削加工中人工测量尺寸方式存在的精度低、效率低等问... 木窗是一种以木材或木质复合材料为主要构件的门窗产品,具有良好的生态性能和美观效果,适用于多种建筑形式和风格,其中木窗尺寸是衡量木窗加工是否合格的重要指标。对于传统木窗双端铣削加工中人工测量尺寸方式存在的精度低、效率低等问题,提出一种基于机器视觉的木窗双端铣削加工尺寸测量方法,以期提高尺寸测量精度及加工效率。该方法针对木窗厚度引起的透视效应,提出一种物平面提升法,以消除透视投影带来的误差。首先对木窗图像采取灰度化、平滑去噪、图像增强及轮廓分割等举措,完成图像预处理,提取出木窗内外轮廓区域。对轮廓区域应用Canny算子获取木窗像素级轮廓。通过优化的Zernike矩亚像素边缘提取算法对木窗像素级边缘进行更精确的定位,得到亚像素级轮廓坐标。通过最小二乘法联合RANSAC算法对亚像素轮廓坐标进行拟合,得到拟合轮廓及角点坐标,并使用透视矫正模型计算出木窗尺寸。实验利用3种厚度规格相同但尺寸不同的松木材质矩形木窗,分别测量其内框和外框的边框尺寸及对角线尺寸,并与对应的实际物理尺寸对比,验证了所提木窗尺寸测量方法的检测精度。研究结果表明,所提方法与实际物理尺寸值相比,其绝对误差范围在±0.12 mm之内,相对误差在±0.1%之内,且效率及精度高,可以满足对木窗的在线尺寸检测。 展开更多

激光粒度仪因其快速、非接触等优点被广泛应用于各领域的粒度分布测量,但颗粒散射光的角分布与粒度大小关系复杂。为了获得不同粒度下的相对精度一致,通常会造成粒度分布测量范围小、无法满足宽分布粒度测量要求等问题。根据Mie散射近... 激光粒度仪因其快速、非接触等优点被广泛应用于各领域的粒度分布测量,但颗粒散射光的角分布与粒度大小关系复杂。为了获得不同粒度下的相对精度一致,通常会造成粒度分布测量范围小、无法满足宽分布粒度测量要求等问题。根据Mie散射近似的菲涅尔原理,提出采用折反式光路,将颗粒散射信号由分光镜分成两束,经两组组合式镜头和2个光电探测器分别采集透射和反射的散射信号,信号组合后经反演得到颗粒粒度分布,从而提高了可测粒度范围。采用两种标准粒子及其混合物进行了实验,结果表明,单种标准粒子测量结果的体积中位径D50的测量相对误差都不大于7.9%;对混合粒子也能够得到正确的峰值分布。 展开更多

基于多模态图像信息及改进实例分割网络的肉牛体尺自动测量方法

[目的/意义]牛的体尺参数是反映牛身体发育状况的关键指标,也是牛选育过程的关键因素。为解决规模化肉牛牧场复杂环境对肉牛体尺的测量需求,设计了一种图像采集装置以及体尺自动测量算法。[方法]首先搭建肉牛行走通道,当肉牛通过通道后进入限制装置,用英特尔双目深度相机D455对牛只右侧图像进行RGB与深度图的采集。其次,为避免复杂环境背景的影响,提出一种改进后的实例分割网络Mask2former来对牛只二维图进行前景轮廓提取,对轮廓进行区间划分,利用计算曲率分析方法找到所需体尺测点。然后,将原始深度图转换为点云数据,对点云进行点云滤波、分割和深度图牛只区域的空值填充,以保留牛体区域的点云完整,从而找到所需测点并返回到二维数据中。最后,将二维像素点投影到三维点云中,利用相机参数计算出投影点的世界坐标,从而进行体尺的自动化计算,最终提取肉牛体高、十字部高、体斜长和管围4种体尺参数。[结果与讨论]改进的实例分割网络与Mask R-CNN、PointRend、Queryinst等模型相比具有更好的分割结果。采用本研究测得的这4种体尺平均相对误差分别为4.32%、3.71%、5.58%和6.25%。[结论]本研究开发的肉牛图像采集装置及相应的图像处理方法可以满足该牧场对肉牛体尺无接触自动测量误差小于8%的精度要求,为非接触式肉牛体尺自动化测量提供了理论与实践指导。 展开更多
