The emergence of new engineering disciplines has resulted in the growing trend of cross-discipline,and the enhancement of students’technical application ability has become the main teaching objective of engineering disciplines.For this reason,the Internet of Things(IoT)engineering program should be actively reformed,providing students with sufficient opportunities to improve their practical skills.This paper identifies the challenges within practical teaching of IoT engineering,delves into effective strategies for practical IoT teaching within the context of emerging engineering disciplines,and presents practical teaching experiences from the School of Information Engineering at Hainan University of Science and Technology as a case study.The aim is to offer guidance and insights to educators in this field.

Research on Marketing Model of Green Agricultural Product under the Background of Internet Plus

Internet of Things for the Future of Smart Agriculture: A Comprehensive Survey of Emerging Technologies

This paper presents a comprehensive review of emerging technologies for the internet of things(IoT)-based smart agriculture.We begin by summarizing the existing surveys and describing emergent technologies for the agricultural IoT,such as unmanned aerial vehicles,wireless technologies,open-source IoT platforms,software defined networking(SDN),network function virtualization(NFV)technologies,cloud/fog computing,and middleware platforms.We also provide a classification of IoT applications for smart agriculture into seven categories:including smart monitoring,smart water management,agrochemicals applications,disease management,smart harvesting,supply chain management,and smart agricultural practices.Moreover,we provide a taxonomy and a side-by-side comparison of the state-ofthe-art methods toward supply chain management based on the blockchain technology for agricultural IoTs.Furthermore,we present real projects that use most of the aforementioned technologies,which demonstrate their great performance in the field of smart agriculture.Finally,we highlight open research challenges and discuss possible future research directions for agricultural IoTs.

Does Internet use promote the adoption of agricultural technology?Evidence from 1449 farm households in 14 Chinese provinces

China is characterized as ’a large country with many smallholder farmers’ whose participation in modern agriculture is key to the country’s modern agriculture development. Promoting smallholder farmers’ adoption of modern agricultural production technology is one effective way to improve the capabilities of smallholder farmers. This paper aims to explore the impact of Internet use on the adoption of agricultural production technology by smallholder farmers based on a survey of 1 449 smallholders across 14 provinces in China. The results suggest that Internet use can significantly promote technology adoption, with the probability of adopting new crop varieties, water-saving irrigation technology and straw-returning technology increasing by 0.200, 0.157 and 0.155, respectively. Furthermore, the effect of Internet use is found to be heterogeneous with a greater effect on smallholder farmers having low education levels, limited training, and high incomes. To increase agricultural production technology adoption by smallholders, rural Internet infrastructure and Internet use promotion should be the focus for the Chinese government.

Study on the Poverty Alleviation Model of Internet + Agricultural Industry: Taking Anhua Dark Tea Industry as an Example

Through field investigation and relevant information collection,the actual cases of poverty alleviation in the development of dark tea industry in Anhua County are analyzed,and the poverty alleviation models and poverty alleviation paths of the dark tea industry are studied.The enterprise + base + farmer and cooperative + base + farmer are the specific forms in the Internet + agricultural industry poverty alleviation model in Anhua County. The help effect of the path and mechanism of poverty alleviation on poor households is analyzed,and the poverty alleviation model of supporting the dark tea industry in Anhua County is summarized. Based on the experience of Anhua City’s successful use of the Internet + dark tea industry to alleviate poverty,this article proposes four policy recommendations for the use of the Internet + agricultural industry model to alleviate poverty: strengthening the software and hardware infrastructure construction for the poverty alleviation model of Internet+ agricultural industry and fostering leading agricultural enterprises and cooperatives with strong ability to drive,giving play to the advantages of Internet + agricultural industry to alleviate poverty and seizing opportunities,improving the government’s capacity to use the Internet + agricultural industry poverty alleviation model and establishing targeted industry-supporting poverty alleviation system arrangements and organizational structure,and establishing a good poverty alleviation path and a close poverty alleviation benefit linkage mechanism to ensure the maximum benefits of poor households.

Design of Machine Learning Based Smart Irrigation System for Precision Agriculture

Agriculture 4.0,as the future of farming technology,comprises numerous key enabling technologies towards sustainable agriculture.The use of state-of-the-art technologies,such as the Internet of Things,transform traditional cultivation practices,like irrigation,to modern solutions of precision agriculture.To achieve effectivewater resource usage and automated irrigation in precision agriculture,recent technologies like machine learning(ML)can be employed.With this motivation,this paper design an IoT andML enabled smart irrigation system(IoTML-SIS)for precision agriculture.The proposed IoTML-SIS technique allows to sense the parameters of the farmland and make appropriate decisions for irrigation.The proposed IoTML-SIS model involves different IoT based sensors for soil moisture,humidity,temperature sensor,and light.Besides,the sensed data are transmitted to the cloud server for processing and decision making.Moreover,artificial algae algorithm(AAA)with least squares-support vector machine(LS-SVM)model is employed for the classification process to determine the need for irrigation.Furthermore,the AAA is applied to optimally tune the parameters involved in the LS-SVM model,and thereby the classification efficiency is significantly increased.The performance validation of the proposed IoTML-SIS technique ensured better performance over the compared methods with the maximum accuracy of 0.975.

Building an interoperable space for smart agriculture

The digital transformation in agriculture introduces new challenges in terms of data,knowledge and technology adoption due to critical interoperability issues,and also challenges regarding the identification of the most suitable data sources to be exploited and the information models that must be used.DEMETER(Building an Interoperable,Data-Driven,Innovative and Sustainable European Agri-Food Sector)addresses these challenges by providing an overarching solution that integrates various heterogeneous hardware and software resources(e.g.,devices,networks,platforms)and enables the seamless sharing of data and knowledge throughout the agri-food chain.This paper introduces the main concepts of DEMETER and its reference architecture to address the data sharing and interoperability needs of farmers,which is validated via two rounds of 20 large-scale pilots along the DEMETER lifecycle.This paper elaborates on the two pilots carried out in region of Murcia in Spain,which target the arable crops sector and demonstrate the benefits of the deployed DEMETER reference architecture.

Application of Deep Learning to Production Forecasting in Intelligent Agricultural Product Supply Chain

Production prediction is an important factor influencing the realization of an intelligent agricultural supply chain.In an Internet of Things(IoT)environment,accurate yield prediction is one of the prerequisites for achieving an efficient response in an intelligent agricultural supply chain.As an example,this study applied a conventional prediction method and deep learning prediction model to predict the yield of a characteristic regional fruit(the Shatian pomelo)in a comparative study.The root means square error(RMSE)values of regression analysis,exponential smoothing,grey prediction,grey neural network,support vector regression(SVR),and long short-term memory(LSTM)neural network methods were 53.715,6.707,18.440,1.580,and 1.436,respectively.Among these,the mean square error(MSE)values of the grey neural network,SVR,and LSTM neural network methods were 2.4979,31.652,and 2.0618,respectively;and theirRvalues were 0.99905,0.94,and 0.94501,respectively.The results demonstrated that the RMSE of the deep learning model is generally lower than that of a traditional prediction model,and the prediction results are more accurate.The prediction performance of the grey neural network was shown to be superior to that of SVR,and LSTM neural network,based on the comparison of parameters.
