Promoting smallholder farmers’ adoption o...China is characterized as ’a large country with many smallholder farmers’ whose participation in modern agriculture is key to the country’s modern agriculture development. Promoting smallholder farmers’ adoption of modern agricultural production technology is one effective way to improve the capabilities of smallholder farmers. This paper aims to explore the impact of Internet use on the adoption of agricultural production technology by smallholder farmers based on a survey of 1 449 smallholders across 14 provinces in China. The results suggest that Internet use can significantly promote technology adoption, with the probability of adopting new crop varieties, water-saving irrigation technology and straw-returning technology increasing by 0.200, 0.157 and 0.155, respectively. Furthermore, the effect of Internet use is found to be heterogeneous with a greater effect on smallholder farmers having low education levels, limited training, and high incomes. To increase agricultural production technology adoption by smallholders, rural Internet infrastructure and Internet use promotion should be the focus for the Chinese government.展开更多

Agriculture 4.0,as the future of farming technology,comprises numerous key enabling technologies towards sustainable agriculture.The use of state-of-the-art technologies,such as the Internet of Things,transform tradit...Agriculture 4.0,as the future of farming technology,comprises numerous key enabling technologies towards sustainable agriculture.The use of state-of-the-art technologies,such as the Internet of Things,transform traditional cultivation practices,like irrigation,to modern solutions of precision agriculture.To achieve effectivewater resource usage and automated irrigation in precision agriculture,recent technologies like machine learning(ML)can be employed.With this motivation,this paper design an IoT andML enabled smart irrigation system(IoTML-SIS)for precision agriculture.The proposed IoTML-SIS technique allows to sense the parameters of the farmland and make appropriate decisions for irrigation.The proposed IoTML-SIS model involves different IoT based sensors for soil moisture,humidity,temperature sensor,and light.Besides,the sensed data are transmitted to the cloud server for processing and decision making.Moreover,artificial algae algorithm(AAA)with least squares-support vector machine(LS-SVM)model is employed for the classification process to determine the need for irrigation.Furthermore,the AAA is applied to optimally tune the parameters involved in the LS-SVM model,and thereby the classification efficiency is significantly increased.The performance validation of the proposed IoTML-SIS technique ensured better performance over the compared methods with the maximum accuracy of 0.975.展开更多

Production prediction is an important factor influencing the realization of an intelligent agricultural supply chain.In an Internet of Things(IoT)environment,accurate yield prediction is one of the prerequisites for a...Production prediction is an important factor influencing the realization of an intelligent agricultural supply chain.In an Internet of Things(IoT)environment,accurate yield prediction is one of the prerequisites for achieving an efficient response in an intelligent agricultural supply chain.As an example,this study applied a conventional prediction method and deep learning prediction model to predict the yield of a characteristic regional fruit(the Shatian pomelo)in a comparative study.The root means square error(RMSE)values of regression analysis,exponential smoothing,grey prediction,grey neural network,support vector regression(SVR),and long short-term memory(LSTM)neural network methods were 53.715,6.707,18.440,1.580,and 1.436,respectively.Among these,the mean square error(MSE)values of the grey neural network,SVR,and LSTM neural network methods were 2.4979,31.652,and 2.0618,respectively;and theirRvalues were 0.99905,0.94,and 0.94501,respectively.The results demonstrated that the RMSE of the deep learning model is generally lower than that of a traditional prediction model,and the prediction results are more accurate.The prediction performance of the grey neural network was shown to be superior to that of SVR,and LSTM neural network,based on the comparison of parameters.展开更多

文摘Agriculture 4.0,as the future of farming technology,comprises numerous key enabling technologies towards sustainable agriculture.The use of state-of-the-art technologies,such as the Internet of Things,transform traditional cultivation practices,like irrigation,to modern solutions of precision agriculture.To achieve effectivewater resource usage and automated irrigation in precision agriculture,recent technologies like machine learning(ML)can be employed.With this motivation,this paper design an IoT andML enabled smart irrigation system(IoTML-SIS)for precision agriculture.The proposed IoTML-SIS technique allows to sense the parameters of the farmland and make appropriate decisions for irrigation.The proposed IoTML-SIS model involves different IoT based sensors for soil moisture,humidity,temperature sensor,and light.Besides,the sensed data are transmitted to the cloud server for processing and decision making.Moreover,artificial algae algorithm(AAA)with least squares-support vector machine(LS-SVM)model is employed for the classification process to determine the need for irrigation.Furthermore,the AAA is applied to optimally tune the parameters involved in the LS-SVM model,and thereby the classification efficiency is significantly increased.The performance validation of the proposed IoTML-SIS technique ensured better performance over the compared methods with the maximum accuracy of 0.975.

文摘The digital transformation in agriculture introduces new challenges in terms of data,knowledge and technology adoption due to critical interoperability issues,and also challenges regarding the identification of the most suitable data sources to be exploited and the information models that must be used.DEMETER(Building an Interoperable,Data-Driven,Innovative and Sustainable European Agri-Food Sector)addresses these challenges by providing an overarching solution that integrates various heterogeneous hardware and software resources(e.g.,devices,networks,platforms)and enables the seamless sharing of data and knowledge throughout the agri-food chain.This paper introduces the main concepts of DEMETER and its reference architecture to address the data sharing and interoperability needs of farmers,which is validated via two rounds of 20 large-scale pilots along the DEMETER lifecycle.This paper elaborates on the two pilots carried out in region of Murcia in Spain,which target the arable crops sector and demonstrate the benefits of the deployed DEMETER reference architecture.

文摘Production prediction is an important factor influencing the realization of an intelligent agricultural supply chain.In an Internet of Things(IoT)environment,accurate yield prediction is one of the prerequisites for achieving an efficient response in an intelligent agricultural supply chain.As an example,this study applied a conventional prediction method and deep learning prediction model to predict the yield of a characteristic regional fruit(the Shatian pomelo)in a comparative study.The root means square error(RMSE)values of regression analysis,exponential smoothing,grey prediction,grey neural network,support vector regression(SVR),and long short-term memory(LSTM)neural network methods were 53.715,6.707,18.440,1.580,and 1.436,respectively.Among these,the mean square error(MSE)values of the grey neural network,SVR,and LSTM neural network methods were 2.4979,31.652,and 2.0618,respectively;and theirRvalues were 0.99905,0.94,and 0.94501,respectively.The results demonstrated that the RMSE of the deep learning model is generally lower than that of a traditional prediction model,and the prediction results are more accurate.The prediction performance of the grey neural network was shown to be superior to that of SVR,and LSTM neural network,based on the comparison of parameters.
