Based on fission track dating of apatite, and measurement of vitrinite reflectance of rock samples from the Longmenshan (Longmen Mountain)area and the West Sichuan foreland basin and computer modelling it is concluded that (l)the Songpan-Garze fold belt has uplifted at least by 3-4 km with an uplift rate of no less than 0.3-0.4 mm/a since 10 Ma B.P.; (2) the Longmenshan thrust nappe belt has uplifted at least by 5-6 km with an uplift rate of more than 0.5- 0.6 mm /a since 10 Ma B.P.; (3) the Longmenshan detachment belt has uplifted by 1 - 2 km at a rate of 0.016-0.032 mm/a since 60 Ma B.P.; (4) the West Sichuan foreland basin has uplifted by 1.7-3 km at a rate of 0.028-0.05 mm/a since 60 Ma B.P.; (5) the uplift rate of the area on the west side of the Beichuan-Yingxiu-Xiaoguanzi fault for the last 10 Ma is 40 times as much as that on its east side; (6) the uplifting of the the Songpan - Garze fold belt and the subsidence of the West Sichuan foreland basin 60 Ma ago exhibit a mirro-image correlation, i.e. the rapid uplifting of the the Songpan-Garze fold belt was corresponding to the rapid subsidence of the basin;the Songpan-Garze fold belt has uplifted at a much greater rate than the West Sichuan foeland basin in the last 60 Ma;and (7) the palaeogeothermal gradient was 25℃ /km in the West Sichuan foreland basin. 展开更多

Prevailing dogma asserts that the uplift of Tibet, the onset of the Asian monsoon system and high biodiversity in southern Asia are linked, and that all occurred after 23 million years ago in the Neogene. Here, spanning the last 60 million years of Earth history, the geological, climatological and palaeontological evidence for this linkage is reviewed. The principal conclusions are that: 1) A proto-Tibetan highland existed well before the Neogene and that an Andean type topography with surface elevations of at least 4.5 km existed at the start of the Eocene, before final closure of the Tethys Ocean that separated India from Eurasia. 2) The Himalaya were formed not at the start of the India-Eurasia collision, but after much of Tibet had achieved its present elevation. The Himalaya built against a pre-existing proto-Tibetan highland and only projected above the average height of the plateau after approximately 15 Ma. 3)Monsoon climates have existed across southern Asia for the whole of the Cenozoic, and probably for a lot longer, but that they were of the kind generated by seasonal migrations of the Inter-tropical Convergence Zone. 4) The projection of the High Himalaya above the Tibetan Plateau at about 15 Ma coincides with the development of the modern South Asia Monsoon. 5) The East Asia monsoon became established in its present form about the same time as a consequence of topographic changes in northern Tibet and elsewhere in Asia, the loss of moisture sources in the Asian interior and the development of a strong winter Siberian high as global temperatures declined. 6) New radiometric dates of palaeontological finds point to southern Asia's high biodiversity originating in the Paleogene, not the Neogene. 展开更多

(U-Th)/He dating is a newly developed low temperature thermochronometry, and it elaborately reflects cooling history of geologic body under low temperature. It can be applied to analyze thermal evolution of the sedimentary basin, combining with vitrinite reflectance and fission track. (U-Th)/He dating of apatite and zircon from drilling cores in Puguang (普光)-Maoba (毛坝) area and outcrops in Tongjiang (通江) area indicates that the Northeast Sichuan (四川) basin underwent great uplift and denudation during the Tertiary and the Quaternary. During the period, denudation rates changed from 74.8 to 172.5 m/Ma and denudation thickness was between 2 800 and 3 000 m, geotemperature gradually declined into the current temperature, passing through helium closure temperature of apatite. The uplift and denudation relate to new tectonic movement response in the Sichuan basin aroused by the Qinghai (青海)-Tibet plateau. Drilling samples above 4 000 m did not undergo closure temperature of zircon, but the samples nearly 4 000 m might approach closure temperature of zircon and all the samples underwent closure temperature of apatite. According to (U-Th)/He ages of zircon, it is concluded that the Northeast Sichuan basin began to uplift in the Late Jurassic. From the Late Jurassic to the Paleogene, Northeast Sichuan basin was in slow uplift and denudation, but the denudation of Puguang-Maoba area was earlier than that of Tongjiang area. (U-Th)/He ages of zircon indicate the denudation time of provenance areas. On the basis of paleodrainage characteristics, provenance transport and other related data, provenance areas of the clastie rocks are decided, which is worthy to be investigated further. 展开更多

River is one of the geomorphic units that are the most sensitive to tectonic activity, of which the longitudinal profile serves as a key archieve to record information on active tectonics. The stream-power incision model is an important means to analyze channel long profiles and to extract both temporal and spatial patterns of regional tectonic activity. Analytical solutions to the steady-state and linear transient-state equations of the model provides means to calibrate drainage basin concavity, calculate channel steepness index, determine drainage divide stability, project the paleo-channel profile, and to invert the tectonic uplift rate history. Yet, not all of these functions have been implemented in the published open-source tools. Here, we developed a set of open-source codes, RiverProAnalysis, which was based on the Matlab platform and integrated all of these functions. The products of the tool set are in the format of image, text and vector files, which not only can be used for visual analysis, but be read by softwares of geographic information system. Taking examples of two transient drainage catchments in the northern margin of the Taiyuan Basin, we analyzed the long profiles of the trunk streams, identified two generations of knickpoints, and estimated the minimum amount of river incision. We combined all the trunk and tributary channels together to model the catchment-wide uplift history and found moderate increases in the uplift rates since the Middle Pliocene and rapid accelation since the late Quaternary. The inverted results are consistent with the sedimentary records in the adjacent basin. By comparing the chi value, slope, and topographic relief of both sides of the catchment divide, we concluded the stability of the drainage divide. Our tool set integrates the main functions of the modern studies on fluvial landsape, thus providing a powerful tool for analyzing river long profiles and for understanding tectonic geomorphology. 展开更多
