Theory and methodology of landscape urbanism provides a new perspective for the construction of public spaces in high-density urban environment. Based on the concept and basic standpoints of landscape urbanism, this paper elaborated its potential value in spatial connection, functional integration and vitality promotion, and also analyzed practical strategies of landscape urbanism from three perspectives of structure, fold and stage by combining with typical cases, so as to provide references for designing urban public spaces in high-density environment.展开更多

This paper based on the theory of space syntax took Luochengtou Village in Handan City,Hebei Province for example,tried to figure out a proper way for the renewal of urban villages,and change the current dilemma of&qu...This paper based on the theory of space syntax took Luochengtou Village in Handan City,Hebei Province for example,tried to figure out a proper way for the renewal of urban villages,and change the current dilemma of"one-size-fits-all"and"removing all"in most cases,and put forward that local conditions and regional characteristics must be considered to propose the renewal strategies more suitable for the targeted objects.Based on the space syntax Depthmap software and field investigation,the paper analyzed the accessibility,intelligibility and throughput of public spaces in Luochengtou Village,and put forward 3 optimization strategies in view of the problems such as insufficient public spaces,poor accessibility and intelligibility of roads,and poor activity of spaces,specifically,increasing public activity spaces,sorting out public space network,and creating active space nodes,so as to optimize public environment of the village,enhance villagers’sense of belonging,sense of safety and sense of identity.展开更多

This study examines the notion of placeness of city center commercial plazas within the context of globalization.Contemporary improvements of commercial public spaces aim to globalize the city image at the expense of ...This study examines the notion of placeness of city center commercial plazas within the context of globalization.Contemporary improvements of commercial public spaces aim to globalize the city image at the expense of local identity and regional characteristics.Although recognized as a major landmark that reflects the globalized image of Nanjing City,Deji Plaza cannot establish a unique sense of place and identity for the community.By adopting a humanist perspective,this study emphasizes peopled experience,perception,and emotional needs of the place as crucial dimensions for improving the relationship between people and commercial spaces.A structural equation model is used to develop a measurement system that evaluates the interaction between the different dimensions of placeness.Findings indicate that optimized locations and environmental characteristics of city center commercial plazas may enhance their image but transform them into consumption spaces for tourists rather than public places for the local community.The results of this study deepen the current understanding and assessment tools of placeness in city commercial public spaces,which are relevant to Nanjing City and similar contexts.展开更多
