This article presents an analysis of the patterns of interactions resulting from the positive and negative emotional events that occur in cities,considering them as complex systems.It explores,from the imaginaries,how...This article presents an analysis of the patterns of interactions resulting from the positive and negative emotional events that occur in cities,considering them as complex systems.It explores,from the imaginaries,how certain urban objects can act as emotional agents and how these events affect the urban system as a whole.An adaptive complex systems perspective is used to analyze these patterns.The results show patterns in the processes and dynamics that occur in cities based on the objects that affect the emotions of the people who live there.These patterns depend on the characteristics of the emotional charge of urban objects,but they can be generalized in the following process:(1)immediate reaction by some individuals;(2)emotions are generated at the individual level which begins to generalize,permuting to a collective emotion;(3)a process of reflection is detonated in some individuals from the reading of collective emotions;(4)integration/significance in the community both at the individual and collective level,on the concepts,roles and/or functions that give rise to the process in the system.Therefore,it is clear that emotions play a significant role in the development of cities and these aspects should be considered in the design strategies of all kinds of projects for the city.Future extensions of this work could include a deeper analysis of specific emotional events in urban environments,as well as possible implications for urban policy and decision making.展开更多

A node coupling model of an urban expressway based on complex networks has been esta...We investigate the problem of coordinated chaos control on an urban expressway based on pinning synchronization of complex networks. A node coupling model of an urban expressway based on complex networks has been established using the cell transmission model(CTM). The pinning controller corresponding to multi-ramp coordinated controller was designed by using the delayed feedback control(DFC) method, whose objective is to realize periodical orbits from chaotic states. The concrete pinning control nodes corresponding to the subsystems of regulating the inflows from the on-ramps to the mainline were obtained and the parameters of the controller were optimized by using the stability theory of complex networks to ensure the network synchronization. The validity of the proposed coordinated chaos control method was proven via the simulation experiment. The results of the examples indicated that the order motion on urban expressway can be realized, the wide-moving traffic jam can be suppressed, and the operating efficiency is superior to that of the traditional control methods.展开更多

Compared with the space on the ground,if there is a fire in the urban complex underground space,the loss will be greatly harmful.In addition,the complex underground space is usually connected with other large space ar...Compared with the space on the ground,if there is a fire in the urban complex underground space,the loss will be greatly harmful.In addition,the complex underground space is usually connected with other large space areas and densely populated.Once a fire occurs in the complex underground space,it will cause huge property losses and casualties.In order to reduce the risk of fire,it is necessary to deeply understand the development rules and characteristics of fire in the complex underground space of the city.This article has mainly carried on the following work:(I)A particularly complex model of the multi‐storey subway station was built.On this basis,three groups of comparative experiments were conducted to study the effects of fire power,fire location and smoke control system on fire development,and the conclusion that fire location is the most important factor for fire development was obtained;(II)In order to explore the entire space fire and the local space fire,CFD(Computational Fluid Dynamics)is used to build a large‐size fire model and a small‐size fire model respectively;(III)Multiple detector data as temperature slices were built,and it is expected to make full use of the simulation data to deduce the important index of fire location in the early stage of fire.All of the works in this paper will provide reference experimental data for the prevention and firefighting of a sudden fire in the complex underground space.展开更多

Firstly, three static models(bus stop network, bus transfer network, and bus line network) are used to analyse the structure and invulnerability of urban bus network in order to understand the features of bus network comprehensively. Secondly, a new way is proposed to study the invulnerability of urban bus network by modelling two layered networks, i.e., the bus stop-line network and the bus line-transfer network and then the interactions between different models are analysed. Finally, by modelling a new layered network which can reflect the dynamic passenger flows, the cascade failures are discussed. Then a new load redistribution method is proposed to study the robustness of dynamic traffic. In this paper, the bus network of Shenyang City which is one of the biggest cities in China, is taken as a simulation example. In addition, some suggestions are given to improve the urban bus network and provide emergency strategies when traffic congestion occurs according to the numerical simulation results.展开更多

In this paper, simultaneous observations conducted in 2014 show that the annual mean concentration of fine particulate ma...The Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei urban agglomeration is currently facing severe complex air pollution. In this paper, simultaneous observations conducted in 2014 show that the annual mean concentration of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) was 84 ± 70, 86 ±60, and 118 ± 95 μg m-3 in Beijing, Tianjin, and Shijiazhuang, respectively. The mean 03 8h max in the summer was 171 ± 43, 147 ± 45, and 146 ± 44 μg m-3, respectively. This research indicates that PM2.5 and O3 are positively correlated when the temperature exceeds 20 ℃5 and the urban agglomeration shows characteristics of complex air pollution consisting of superimposed 03 and PM2.s. In summer, when the humidity was less than 55%, secondary particles and 03 also increased in a coordinated manner (y = 1.35x + 29.85; R2 = 0.61), which demonstrates severe complex pollution. However, the mean PM2.5(y) and mean 03 8 h max (x) in summer showed a negative correlation (y = - 1.3x + 245; R2 = 0.61 ) in the three regions, indicating high concentrations of PM2.5 pollution partially inhibit O3 generation.展开更多

It includes the effect of the overlapping ratio of new route on network performance and overcomes the disadvantage, i.e. lack of economic consideration, in the evolutionary bus transport network model in P-space proposed by Chen et al (2007). The degree distribution functions are derived by using the mean-field method and the master equation method, separately. The relationship between the new stop ratio of a route, λ, and the error in exponential of degree distribution function from the mean-field method is developed as ASlope= λ/(1 -λ) + ln(1-λ). Finally, the bus transport networks of Hangzhou and Nanjing are simulated by using this model, and the results show that some characteristic index values of the simulated networks are closer to the empirical data than those from Chen's model.展开更多
With the transformation of China’s industry and demographic structure,urban shrinkage,especially the resource-based cities due to their single industrial structure,tend to emerge gradually.Using empirical and quantit...With the transformation of China’s industry and demographic structure,urban shrinkage,especially the resource-based cities due to their single industrial structure,tend to emerge gradually.Using empirical and quantitative methods,this paper explores the evolution mechanism of urban shrinkage in Hegang,a resource-based city in China.Our findings suggest that there are many correlations or cyclic relationships among variables,which provide an empirical confirmation for the complexity of urban shrinkage process.The result shows there is a time delay of about four to five years between the mining industry and the changes of demographic profile,economic performance and built environment variables.The development of Hegang has formed a path dependence on resource-based industries.Furthermore,the time lags between demographic profile and economic performance variables are not obvious,and the real estate market has a certain sensitivity to perceive population loss and economic change.Besides,market led public service facilities are more sensitive to the changes of population outflow and economic recession than government led public service facilities.The study findings could offer insights for other resource-based cities in developing countries to employ on the economic development policies issues.展开更多

A good urban planning...As a reflection of the relationship between human and mountainous environment, urban planning has an impact on the mountainous environment by changing the topography, landform and spatial layout. A good urban planning can mitigate and adapt to the mountainous environmental impact. Urban master planning involves the interrelationships and interactions of various components of urban complex systems. Planning Support System(PSS), as a technical means to assist planning decision-making, is mostly based on the construction mode of "user(stakeholder)-system". Its strong professional characteristics are not conducive to the consensus of diverse stakeholders on urban planning. The aim of this paper is therefore to build an augmented planning support system framework that is based on complex adaptive system theory, this framework is ontology-driven, and thus will enable the generation of a planning support prototype system for mountainous urban master planning founded on this framework. The framework fuses the urban planning ontology and the planning support system together, which helps different urban agents to reach a consensus based on a common understanding of urban planning. The defect is that the construction of the urban planning ontology is still manually constructed. The approach advocated here will enable a common understanding of mountainous urban master planning, support efficient and flexible decision in this area, and provide reference framework for future mountainous urban master PSS developments and application. The PSS prototype developed based on augmented planning support system framework has been applied to the urban master planning of Changting County in Fujian Province, China. Through the application of multiscenario analysis, urban agents can deepen their understanding of the current situation and future development of the city, and ultimately helps to promote urban planning decisions and implementation.展开更多

The plan takes into consideration its historical background and current status, its protection significance, strategies, solutions and support conditions. It highlights the landscape characteristics of rivers and lakes, and restores its historical flood prevention functions and climate regulation for the city. Especially, this paper proposes to achieve the restoration of “Mulberry-sided Fish Pond” farming style—an important agricultural heritage created by the ancestors inside the wetland, which is a unique and creative way to use low land for ecological agriculture and cycling economy. The proposed wetland sewage treatment schemes would be of practical importance to improve and enhance the ecological environment and promote the construction of ecological civilization in the region. The “Two zones—One block and Three complexes” protection and utilization plan is reasonable and feasible. It fully presents the functions of the wetland for its production, living, life forms and ecology, and is characterized by joint protection of the wetland by original residents and social public. This will result in active, instead of passive, wetland protection, like turning a “blood transfusion protection” to “hematopoietic protection”, which reflects the sustainable development. To defi ne development stages and dominant factors of urbanization, this paper adopted such quantitative research methods as principal component analysis(PCA) and regression analysis, established a composite index system including population, land use, economic and social factors, and investigated urbanization process of Hainan Province using SPSS19.0. The results showed that the comprehensive influence obtained from the composite index system has had increasing impact on the urbanization of Hainan since 2000, and showed obvious stage features. As a whole, the urbanization history falls into 3 stages: slowing down, improving, and rapidly accelerating, and dominant factors in each stage vary greatly.展开更多

We take regional towns and cities as a complex man-land system of urban eco-community. This complex man-land system comprises two elements of ' man' and ' land' . Here, ' man' means organization with self-determined consciousness, and ' land' means the physical environment (niche) that ' man' depends on. The complex man-land system has three basic components. They are individual, population and community. Therefore there are six types of spatial relationship for the complex man-land system. They are individual, population,community,man-man, land-land and man-land spatial relationships. Taking the Pearl(Zhujiang) River Delta as a case study, the authors found some evidence of the urban spatial relationship from the remote sensing data. Firstly, the concentration and diffusion of the cities spatial relationship was found in the remote sensing imagery. Most of the cities concentrate in the core area of the Pearl River Delta, but the diffusion situation is also significant. Secondly, the growth behavior and succession behavior of the urban spatial relationship was found in the remote sensing images comparison with different temporal data. Thirdly, the inheritance, break, or meeting emergency behavior was observed from the remote sensing data. Fourthly, the authors found many cases of symbiosis and competition in the remote sensing data of the Pearl River Delta. Fifthly, the autoeciousness, stranglehold and invasion behavior of the urban spatial relationship was discovered from the remote sensing data.展开更多

The mean 03 8h max in the summer was 171 ± 43, 147 ± 45, and 146 ± 44 μg m-3, respectively. This research indicates that PM2.5 and O3 are positively correlated when the temperature exceeds 20 ℃5 and the urban agglomeration shows characteristics of complex air pollution consisting of superimposed 03 and PM2.s. In summer, when the humidity was less than 55%, secondary particles and 03 also increased in a coordinated manner (y = 1.35x + 29.85; R2 = 0.61), which demonstrates severe complex pollution. However, the mean PM2.5(y) and mean 03 8 h max (x) in summer showed a negative correlation (y = - 1.3x + 245; R2 = 0.61 ) in the three regions, indicating high concentrations of PM2.5 pollution partially inhibit O3 generation.

文摘In this paper, an evolutionary model of bus transport network in B-space is developed. It includes the effect of the overlapping ratio of new route on network performance and overcomes the disadvantage, i.e. lack of economic consideration, in the evolutionary bus transport network model in P-space proposed by Chen et al (2007). The degree distribution functions are derived by using the mean-field method and the master equation method, separately. The relationship between the new stop ratio of a route, λ, and the error in exponential of degree distribution function from the mean-field method is developed as ASlope= λ/(1 -λ) + ln(1-λ). Finally, the bus transport networks of Hangzhou and Nanjing are simulated by using this model, and the results show that some characteristic index values of the simulated networks are closer to the empirical data than those from Chen's model.

文摘With the transformation of China’s industry and demographic structure,urban shrinkage,especially the resource-based cities due to their single industrial structure,tend to emerge gradually.Using empirical and quantitative methods,this paper explores the evolution mechanism of urban shrinkage in Hegang,a resource-based city in China.Our findings suggest that there are many correlations or cyclic relationships among variables,which provide an empirical confirmation for the complexity of urban shrinkage process.The result shows there is a time delay of about four to five years between the mining industry and the changes of demographic profile,economic performance and built environment variables.The development of Hegang has formed a path dependence on resource-based industries.Furthermore,the time lags between demographic profile and economic performance variables are not obvious,and the real estate market has a certain sensitivity to perceive population loss and economic change.Besides,market led public service facilities are more sensitive to the changes of population outflow and economic recession than government led public service facilities.The study findings could offer insights for other resource-based cities in developing countries to employ on the economic development policies issues.

文摘As a reflection of the relationship between human and mountainous environment, urban planning has an impact on the mountainous environment by changing the topography, landform and spatial layout. A good urban planning can mitigate and adapt to the mountainous environmental impact. Urban master planning involves the interrelationships and interactions of various components of urban complex systems. Planning Support System(PSS), as a technical means to assist planning decision-making, is mostly based on the construction mode of "user(stakeholder)-system". Its strong professional characteristics are not conducive to the consensus of diverse stakeholders on urban planning. The aim of this paper is therefore to build an augmented planning support system framework that is based on complex adaptive system theory, this framework is ontology-driven, and thus will enable the generation of a planning support prototype system for mountainous urban master planning founded on this framework. The framework fuses the urban planning ontology and the planning support system together, which helps different urban agents to reach a consensus based on a common understanding of urban planning. The defect is that the construction of the urban planning ontology is still manually constructed. The approach advocated here will enable a common understanding of mountainous urban master planning, support efficient and flexible decision in this area, and provide reference framework for future mountainous urban master PSS developments and application. The PSS prototype developed based on augmented planning support system framework has been applied to the urban master planning of Changting County in Fujian Province, China. Through the application of multiscenario analysis, urban agents can deepen their understanding of the current situation and future development of the city, and ultimately helps to promote urban planning decisions and implementation.
文摘This paper proposes an innovative plan and its implement strategy of Hemu urban wetland. The plan takes into consideration its historical background and current status, its protection significance, strategies, solutions and support conditions. It highlights the landscape characteristics of rivers and lakes, and restores its historical flood prevention functions and climate regulation for the city. Especially, this paper proposes to achieve the restoration of “Mulberry-sided Fish Pond” farming style—an important agricultural heritage created by the ancestors inside the wetland, which is a unique and creative way to use low land for ecological agriculture and cycling economy. The proposed wetland sewage treatment schemes would be of practical importance to improve and enhance the ecological environment and promote the construction of ecological civilization in the region. The “Two zones—One block and Three complexes” protection and utilization plan is reasonable and feasible. It fully presents the functions of the wetland for its production, living, life forms and ecology, and is characterized by joint protection of the wetland by original residents and social public. This will result in active, instead of passive, wetland protection, like turning a “blood transfusion protection” to “hematopoietic protection”, which reflects the sustainable development. The paper offers valuable information and strategies for planning and development of urban wetland.

文摘Hainan has witnessed rapid urbanization since the early twenty-fi rst century. To defi ne development stages and dominant factors of urbanization, this paper adopted such quantitative research methods as principal component analysis(PCA) and regression analysis, established a composite index system including population, land use, economic and social factors, and investigated urbanization process of Hainan Province using SPSS19.0. The results showed that the comprehensive influence obtained from the composite index system has had increasing impact on the urbanization of Hainan since 2000, and showed obvious stage features. As a whole, the urbanization history falls into 3 stages: slowing down, improving, and rapidly accelerating, and dominant factors in each stage vary greatly.

文摘From the ecological viewpoint this paper discusses the urban spatial-temporal relationship. We take regional towns and cities as a complex man-land system of urban eco-community. This complex man-land system comprises two elements of ' man' and ' land' . Here, ' man' means organization with self-determined consciousness, and ' land' means the physical environment (niche) that ' man' depends on. The complex man-land system has three basic components. They are individual, population and community. Therefore there are six types of spatial relationship for the complex man-land system. They are individual, population,community,man-man, land-land and man-land spatial relationships. Taking the Pearl(Zhujiang) River Delta as a case study, the authors found some evidence of the urban spatial relationship from the remote sensing data. Firstly, the concentration and diffusion of the cities spatial relationship was found in the remote sensing imagery. Most of the cities concentrate in the core area of the Pearl River Delta, but the diffusion situation is also significant. Secondly, the growth behavior and succession behavior of the urban spatial relationship was found in the remote sensing images comparison with different temporal data. Thirdly, the inheritance, break, or meeting emergency behavior was observed from the remote sensing data. Fourthly, the authors found many cases of symbiosis and competition in the remote sensing data of the Pearl River Delta. Fifthly, the autoeciousness, stranglehold and invasion behavior of the urban spatial relationship was discovered from the remote sensing data.
