The area connotation of urban river landscape is expanded based on the generalized landscape perspective. In addition to natural and functional attributes, river landscape should be regarded as a regional space element based on heterogeneous space scale. First, as for research method system, the space research models(including ecological footprint, space planning, and landscape pattern index, etc.) coupled with different angle scales and interdisciplinary theory, are utilized to study different correlations and results formed by urban river landscape elements and other regional space elements from the perspective of the regional ecological space, and the overall development goal of the urban river landscape pattern based on the goals of the regional ecological space planning is obtained. Second, the oriented urban river landscape planning and the "M" type close-tonature design strategy are evaluated through the city function zoning orientation and micro-scale urban river landscape pattern index. The research realizes the compatibility of overall goals in terms of the regional ecology, the development of urban functional areas, and the river landscape planning, without losing micro difference and maneuverability based on the urban river landscape planning and design oriented strategy, which innovates the new approach of urban river landscape planning and design with sustainable and balanced development of regional resources, multi-scale, and multiple objectives.展开更多

However, along with the dramatically economic growth, there constantly emerges environmental and social constraints which may be great challenges of China's future sustainable development. In order to optimize the developmental mode, the latest national plan, "The 12th National Economic and Social Development Plan (2011-2015)", is establishing the "Main Function Zoning Strategy", which could be considered as a new prototype of national spatial plan and may cover all Chinese territories. Based on the latest "Main Function Zoning Strategy" stipulated in "The 12th National Economic and Social Development Plan (2011-2015)", the article builds main interlinks between the spatial development strategy and urban regulatory planning. Secondly, regulation factors in Chinese regulatory planning, which may implement the task of main function zoning, have been clarified and categorized. For each regulation factor, its regulation capability is defined by applying a coding method developed by the author. Finally, according to the output of the study, the spatial regulation approaches to implementing the "Main Function Zoning Strategy" in Chinese regulatory planning are analyzed.展开更多

This paper systematically summarizes the historical development concerning urban design ideas and thoughts. Based on an in-depth analysis on the development frontier in urban design discipline and professional field in both China and abroad, the paper concludes that urban design has undergone several development phases, including traditional urban design, modernist urban design, and green urban design. Considering the new urban design development trend that is characterized by digitalization as the method and tool, the paper puts forward the "digital urban design paradigm" as the fourth generation and sums up its five innovative values. The most important characteristic of urban design is "multi-scale experiential control on space in the whole chain," and digital urban design has greatly expanded the scale of such kind of experiential control. The relationships between the four generations of urban design paradigms are not simply successive, but inherited and partially iterative urban design "paradigm synthesis" under the joint effects of design objectives with difference in similarity, various spatial scales, and various social demands. Digital urban design possesses not only the social values and design originalities of man-machine dialogues, but also quantitative properties and database outcomes, which can more effectively combine with or even merge into the statutory urban planning system of China. Thereupon, the leap-forward development of urban design based on systematical coordination can be realized.展开更多
