We achieve a high-pressure condition of in situ neutron diffraction by means of a newly designed large-volume opposed-anvil cell. This pressure calibration is based on resistance measurements of bismuth and the neutron diffraction of iron. Pressure calibration experiments are performed at room temperature for a new cell using the tungsten carbide anvils with a tapered angle of 30°, Φ4.5 mm culet diameter and the metal-nonmetal composite gasket with a thickness of 2 mm. Transitions in Bi(Ⅰ–Ⅱ 2.55 GPa, Ⅱ–V 7.7 GPa) are observed at 100 and 300 kN, respectively, by resistance measurements. The pressure measurement results of neutron diffraction are consistent with resistance measurements of bismuth. As a result, pressures up to about 7.7 GPa can routinely and stably be achieved using this apparatus, with the sample volume of 9 mm^3.展开更多

A phase transition from the initial zinc blende (ZB, ZnTe-Ⅰ) structure to a cinnabar phase (ZnTe-Ⅱ) is observed at 9.6 GPa, followed by a high pressure orthorhombic phase (ZnTe-Ⅲ) with Cmcm symmetry at 12.1 GPa. The ZB, cinnabar (space group P3121), Cmcm, P31 and rock salt structures of ZnTe are investigated by using density functional theory calculations. Based on the experiments and calculations, the ZnTe-Ⅱ phase is determined to have a cinnabar structure rather than a P3 1 symmetry.展开更多

Based on the aforementioned phenomenon, we propose a method of using microdischarge electrodes to produce a macroscopic discharge phenomenon. In the form of an asymmetric structure composed of a carbon fiber electrode, an electrode structure of carbon fiber spiral-contact type is designed to achieve an atmospheric pressure glow discharge in air, which is characterized by low discharge voltage, low energy consumption, good diffusion and less ozone generation.展开更多

Livestock mostly rely on fodder from wild. The diversity, distribution, utilization pattern, nativity, endemism, rarity, seasonality of availability, nutritive values, perceived economic values and pressure use index of livestock have not been studied. The present study attempts to enumerate 150 species of fodder representing trees (51 spp.), shrubs (54 spp.) and herbs (45 spp.). Poaceae (19 spp.) and Fabaceae (13 spp.) amongst families and Salix (6 spp.), Ficus, Clematis, and Desmodium (5 spp., each) amongst genera are rich in species. Maximum species were found in the 1801 ~ 2600 m zone, and the remaining two zones showed relatively low diversity. Out of the 150 species, 109 are used in summer, 5 winter and 36 throughout year. During rainy season, mostly grasses are used as fodder. Only 83 species are native to the Himalayan region, one species, Strobilanthus atropuroureus is endemic and 35 species are near endemic. The nutritive values of the fodder species were reviewed, and economic values and status of the species were also assessed. The pressure use index of the species was calculated on the basis of cumulative values of the utilization pattern, altitudinal distribution, availability, status, nativity and endemism. Amongst the species, Grewia oppositifoilia, Morus serrata, Indigofera heterantha, Quercus leucotrichphora, Ulmus villosa, U. wallichiana and Aesculus indica showed highest PUI indicating high preference and pressure. Season wise prioritization of the species for different altitudinal zones has been done. Appropriate strategy and action plan have been suggested for the conservation and management of fodder species.展开更多

Darcy’s law is often used to express this type of phenomenon. However, using Darcy’s law to construct a mathematical model to predict juice extraction from chopped sweet sorghum is difficult, because the volume of the porous media changes during the pressing operations. A mathematical model was developed from fundamental analysis to predict the juice extraction ratio of chopped sweet sorghum, and experiments were conducted to verify the model. An experimental piston-cylinder assembly was developed to conduct the validation experiments. The parameters in the developed model were estimated by using non-linear regression analysis from the experimental data. Plots of the mathematical model agreed well with experimental data. R^2(coefficient of determination) values for all the regressions studied were higher than 0.99. Results showed that the juice extraction ratio of chopped sweet sorghum approached an asymptote with a maximum value that depended on the physical form of the sample. The model could help in understanding the mechanics of juice extraction from chopped sweet sorghum.展开更多

Acoustic field of the standard cavity model is simulated by using the computational fluid dynamics technology based on scale-adaptive simulation (SAS) model. The results obtained by the proposed method in this paper show reasonable agreement with experiments. On the basis of this, effect of different jet flow rates on the time-averaged variables, turbulent kinetic energy, root mean square (RMS) of sound pressure, sound sources distribution and the pulsating pressure distribution in the cavity is studied. The analysis shows that the jet flow has great influence on the cavity flow field and the distribution of pulsating pressure RMS by changing the morphology of the shear layer. The most obvious of these measures is spout4 configuration, the influence mainly in the form of reducing the pulsating pressure of the whole cavity and changing the sound pressure level in the far field. The results show that different jet flow rates have different control effects on pulsating pressure in the cavity and sound pressure level in the far field. Furthermore, the jet flow rates and the suppression effect on the pulsating pressure have no linear relation.展开更多
