With a grant from the Italian Ministry of the Environment, the National Institute of Health (Istituto Superiore di Sanita) promoted and coordinated some activities aimed at determining the extent and the intensity of contamination of waters used for human consumption by some chemical agents, and describing causes and modalities of contamination and human health implications. The chemical agents examined were herbicides, nitrates, trihalomethanes, asbestos, manganese and fluoride. In this paper a first nationwide picture of these problems is reported. 展开更多

The think-aloud method has been widely used in cognitivestudies, and in particular, in the studies of the on-goingprocesses in reading comprehension. It is an effective tool, ifused properly, in revealing how the reader processes the textinformation and solves his/her comprehension problems usingdifferent kinds of strategies during text processing. As a result,it allows us to have a glimpse of the reader’s cognitive processesduring text processing that we cannot see under other situations, and allows us to find out the processing strengths of the reader aswell as the limitations and problems of his/her processingstrategies. Therefore, it can be useful in diagnosing students’reading problems. Although the think-aloud method is popular in cognitivestudies, it is difficult to manage. This paper offers somesuggestions on designing a program for diagnosing readingproblems to control the factors that affect the think-aloudperformance. 展开更多

He has been taking the drug for about a year and is spending at least £60 ( = 90; $110) a day on it. Abstract: What issues you should cover You should do a full assessment before deciding on any action; this is likely to take more than one consultation. An empathic and non-judgmental approach will engage him and help him to begin the process of change. You need to clarify why he has come to you now and what he wants-often, but not always, this is a prescription. All GPs should be able to gather the information they need for an appropriate referral and to provide general care. Current drug use-Ask about all illicit drugs he has taken in the past month (including cannabis). Record quantity and frequency of use, together with route of administration. Also note his smoking and drinking habits. Past drug history and treatment experience-Ask about onset of drug use and when it first became a problem. What do drugs do for him? Has he tried stopping previously? 展开更多
