Two-dimension(2D)van der Waals heterojunction holds essential promise in achieving high-performance flexible near-infrared(NIR)photodetector.Here,we report the successful fabrication of ZnSb/Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x)MXene based flexible NIR photodetector array via a facile photolithography technology.The single ZnSb/Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x)photodetector exhibited a high light-to-dark current ratio of 4.98,fast response/recovery time(2.5/1.3 s)and excellent stability due to the tight connection between 2D ZnSb nanoplates and 2D Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x)MXene nanoflakes,and the formed 2D van der Waals heterojunction.Thin polyethylene terephthalate(PET)substrate enables the ZnSb/Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x)photodetector withstand bending such that stable photoelectrical properties with non-obvious change were maintained over 5000 bending cycles.Moreover,the ZnSb/Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x)photodetectors were integrated into a 26×5 device array,realizing a NIR image sensing application. 展开更多

The crossmodal interaction of different senses,which is an important basis for learning and memory in the human brain,is highly desired to be mimicked at the device level for developing neuromorphic crossmodal perception,but related researches are scarce.Here,we demonstrate an optoelectronic synapse for vision-olfactory crossmodal perception based on MXene/violet phosphorus(VP)van der Waals heterojunctions.Benefiting from the efficient separation and transport of photogenerated carriers facilitated by conductive MXene,the photoelectric responsivity of VP is dramatically enhanced by 7 orders of magnitude,reaching up to 7.7 A W^(−1).Excited by ultraviolet light,multiple synaptic functions,including excitatory postsynaptic currents,pairedpulse facilitation,short/long-term plasticity and“learning-experience”behavior,were demonstrated with a low power consumption.Furthermore,the proposed optoelectronic synapse exhibits distinct synaptic behaviors in different gas environments,enabling it to simulate the interaction of visual and olfactory information for crossmodal perception.This work demonstrates the great potential of VP in optoelectronics and provides a promising platform for applications such as virtual reality and neurorobotics. 展开更多

The drive for efficient thermal management has intensified with the miniaturization of electronic devices.This study explores the modulation of phonon transport within graphene by introducing silicon nanoparticles influenced by van der Waals forces.Our approach involves the application of non-equilibrium molecular dynamics to assess thermal conductivity while varying the interaction strength,leading to a noteworthy reduction in thermal conductivity.Furthermore,we observe a distinct attenuation in length-dependent behavior within the graphene-nanoparticles system.Our exploration combines wave packet simulations with phonon transmission calculations,aligning with a comprehensive analysis of the phonon transport regime to unveil the underlying physical mechanisms at play.Lastly,we conduct transient molecular dynamics simulations to investigate interfacial thermal conductance between the nanoparticles and the graphene,revealing an enhanced thermal boundary conductance.This research not only contributes to our understanding of phonon transport but also opens a new degree of freedom for utilizing van der Waals nanoparticle-induced resonance,offering promising avenues for the modulation of thermal properties in advanced materials and enhancing their performance in various technological applications. 展开更多

Metal-free defective carbon materials with abundant active sites have been widely studied as low-cost and efficient oxygen reduction reaction(ORR)electrocatalysts in metal-air batteries.However,the active sites in defective carbon are easily subjected to serious oxidation or hydroxylation during ORR or storage,leading to rapid degradation of activity.Herein,we design a van der Waals heterostructure comprised of vitamin C(VC)and defective carbon(DC)to not only boost the activity but also enhance the durability and storage stability of the DC-VC electrocatalyst.The formation of VC van der Waals between DC and VC is demonstrated to be an effective strategy to protect the defect active sites from oxidation and hydroxylation degradation,thus significantly enhancing the electrochemical durability and storage anti-aging performance.Moreover,the DC-VC van der Waals can reduce the reaction energy barrier to facilitate the ORR.These findings are also confirmed by operando Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and density functional theory calculations.It is necessary to mention that the preparation of this DC-VC electrocatalyst can be scaled up,and the ORR performance of the largely produced electrocatalyst is demonstrated to be very consistent.Furthermore,the DC-VC-based aluminum-air batteries display very competitive power density with good performance maintenance. 展开更多

We present a method to fabricate handcrafted thermoelectric devices on standard office paper substrates.The devices are based on thin films of WS_(2),Te,and BP(P-type semiconductors)and TiS_(3)and TiS_(2)(N-type semiconductors),deposited by simply rubbing powder of these materials against paper.The thermoelectric properties of these semiconducting films revealed maximum Seebeck coefficients of(+1.32±0.27)mV K^(-1)and(-0.82±0.15)mV K^(-1)for WS_(2)and TiS_(3),respectively.Additionally,Peltier elements were fabricated by interconnecting the P-and N-type films with graphite electrodes.A thermopower value up to 6.11 mV K^(-1)was obtained when the Peltier element were constructed with three junctions.The findings of this work show proof-of-concept devices to illustrate the potential application of semiconducting van der Waals materials in future thermoelectric power generation as well as temperature sensing for low-cost disposable electronic devices. 展开更多

Multilayered van der Waals(vdW)materials have attracted increasing interest because of the manipulability of their superior optical,electrical,thermal,and mechanical properties.A mass-spring model(MSM)for elastic wave propagation in multilayered vdW metamaterials is reported in this paper.Molecular dynamics(MD)simulations are adopted to simulate the propagation of elastic waves in multilayered vdW metamaterials.The results show that the graphene/MoS_(2)metamaterials have an elastic wave bandgap in the terahertz range.The MSM for the multilayered vdW metamaterials is proposed,and the numerical simulation results show that this model can well describe the dispersion and transmission characteristics of the multilayered vdW metamaterials.The MSM can predict elastic wave transmission characteristics in multilayered vdW metamaterials stacked with different two-dimensional(2D)materials.The results presented in this paper offer theoretical help for the vibration reduction of multilayered vdW semiconductors. 展开更多

Covalent organic frameworks(COFs)have emerged as a kind of rising star materials in photocatalysis.However,their photocatalytic activities are restricted by the high photogenerated electron-hole pairs recombination rate.Herein,a novel metal-free 2D/2D van der Waals heterojunction,composed of a two-dimensional(2D)COF with ketoenamine linkage(TpPa-1-COF)and 2D defective hexagonal boron nitride(h-BN),is successfully constructed through in situ solvothermal method.Benefitting from the presence of VDW heterojunction,larger contact area and intimate electronic coupling can be formed between the interface of TpPa-1-COF and defective h-BN,which make contributions to promoting charge car-riers separation.The introduced defects can also endow the h-BN with porous structure,thus providing more reactive sites.Moreover,the TpPa-1-COF will undergo a structural transformation after being integrated with defective h-BN,which can enlarge the gap between the conduction band position of the h-BN and TpPa-1-COF,and suppress electron backflow,corroborated by experimental and density functional theory calculations results.Accordingly,the resulting porous h-BN/TpPa-1-COF metal-free VDW heterojunction displays out-standing solar energy catalytic activity for water splitting without co-catalysts,and the H_(2) evolution rate can reach up to 3.15 mmol g^(−1) h^(−1),which is about 67 times greater than that of pristine TpPa-1-COF,also surpassing that of state-of-the-art metal-free-based photocatalysts reported to date.In particular,it is the first work for constructing COFs-based heterojunctions with the help of h-BN,which may provide new avenue for designing highly efficient metal-free-based photocatalysts for H_(2) evolution. 展开更多

Van der Waals heterostructures(vdWHs) are showing considerable potential in both fundamental exploration and practical applications. Built upon the synthetic successes of(two-dimensional) 2D materials, several synthetic strategies of vdWHs have been developed,allowing the convenient fabrication of diverse vdWHs with decent controllability, quality, and scalability. This review first summarizes the current state of the art in synthetic strategies of vdWHs, including physical combination, deposition, solvothermal synthesis, and synchronous evolution. Then three major applications and their representative vdWH devices have been reviewed, including electronics(tunneling field effect transistors and 2D contact),optoelectronics(photodetector), and energy conversion(electrocatalysts and metal ion batteries), to unveil the potentials of vdWHs in practical applications and provide the general design principles of functional vdWHs for different applications. Besides, moiré superlattices based on vdWHs are discussed to showcase the importance of vdWHs as a platform for novel condensed matter physics. Finally, the crucial challenges towards ideal vdWHs with high performance are discussed, and the outlook for future development is presented. By the systematical integration of synthetic strategies and applications, we hope this review can further light up the rational designs of vdWHs for emerging applications. 展开更多

Tetradymite-structured chalcogenides,such as Bi_(2)Te_(3) and Sb_(2)Te_(3),are quasi-two-dimensional(2D)layered compounds,which are significant thermoelectric materials applied near room temperature.The intercalation of guest species in van der Waals(vdW)gap implemented for tunning properties has attracted much attention in recent years.We attempt to insert Ga atoms in the vdW gap between the Te layers in p-type Bi_(0.3)Sb_(1.7)Te_(3)(BST)for further improving thermoelectrics.The vdW-related defects(including extrinsic interstitial and intrinsic defects)induced by Ga intercalation can not only modulate the carrier concentration but also enhance the texture,thereby yielding excellent electrical properties,which are reflected in the power factor PF~4.43 mW·m^(-1)·K^(-2).Furthermore,the intercalation of Ga produces multi-scale lattice imperfections such as point defects,Te precipitations,and nanopores,realizing the low lattice thermal conductivity in BST-Ga samples.Ultimately,a peak zT~1.1 at 373 K is achieved in the BST-1%Ga sample and greatly improved by~22%compared to the pristine BST.The weak bonding of vdW interlayer interaction can boost the synergistic effect for advancing BST-based or other layered thermoelectrics. 展开更多

As the basis of modern electronics and optoelectronics,high-performance,multi-functional p-n junctions have manifested and occupied an important position.However,the performance of the silicon-based p-n junctions declines gradually as the thickness approaches to few nanometers.The heterojunction constructed by two-dimensional(2D)materials can significantly improve the device performance compared with traditional technologies.Here,we report the In Se-Te type-II van der Waals heterostructures with rectification ratio up to 1.56×10^(7) at drain-source voltage of±2 V.The p-n junction exhibits a photovoltaic and photoelectric effect under different laser wavelengths and densities and has high photoresponsivity and detectivity under low irradiated light power.Moreover,the heterojunction has stable photo/dark current states and good photoelectric switching characteristics.Such high-performance heterostructured device based on 2D materials provides a new way for futural electronic and optoelectronic devices. 展开更多

The low separation efficiency of the photogenerated carrier and the poor activity of the surface redox reaction are the main barrier to further improvement of photocatalytic materials.To address these issues,introducing spin-polarized electrons in single-component photocatalytic materials emerged as a promising approach.However,the decreased redox ability of photocarriers in these materials becomes a new challenge.Herein,we mitigate this challenge with a carbon nitride sheet(CNs)/graphene nanoribbon(GNR)composite material that has a van der Waals heterostructures(vdWHs)and spin-polarized electron properties.Experimental results and theoretical calculations show that the heterostructure has a strong redox ability,high carrier-separation efficiency,and enhanced surface catalytic reaction.Consequently,the mixed-dimensional CNs/GNR vdWHs exhibit remarkable performance for H_(2)and O_(2)generation as well as CO_(2)production under visible-light irradiation without any cocatalyst.The spin-polarized vdWHs discovered in this study revealed a new type of photocatalytic materials and advanced the development of spintronics and photocatalysis. 展开更多

Exploring the novel structural phase of van der Waals(vdW) magnets would promote the development of spintronics.Here, through first-principles calculations, we report a novel monoclinic structure of vdW layered 1T-CrTe2, which is one of the popular vdW magnets normally exhibiting a trigonal structure. The new monoclinic phase emerges from a switchable magnetic state between ferromagnetism and antiferromagnetism through changing hole doping concentration, which suggests a practical approach to obtain such a structure. The results of phonon dispersion and energy analysis convince us that the monoclinic structure is a metastable phase even without hole doping. When the hole doping concentration increases,the stability analysis indicates the preference for a novel monoclinic phase rather than a conventional trigonal phase, and meanwhile, the magnetic properties are accordingly tuned. This work provides new insights into the phase engineering of the chalcogenide family and the electrical control of magnetism of vdW layered magnets. 展开更多

Van der Waals(VDW)heterojunctions in a 2D/2D contact provide the highest area for the separation and transfer of charge carriers.In this work,a top-down strategy with a gas erosion process was employed to fabricate a 2D/2D carbon nitride VDW heterojunction in carbon nitride(g-C_(3)N_(4))with carbon-rich carbon nitride.The created 2D semiconducting channel in the VDW structure exhibits enhanced electric field exposure and radiation absorption,which facilitates the separation of the charge carriers and their mobility.Consequently,compared with bulk g-C_(3)N_(4)and its nanosheets,the photocatalytic performance of the fabricated carbon nitride VDW heterojunction in the water splitting reaction to hydrogen is improved by 8.6 and 3.3 times,respectively,while maintaining satisfactory photo-stability.Mechanistically,the finite element method(FEM)was employed to evaluate and clarify the contributions of the formation of VDW heterojunction to enhanced photocatalysis,in agreement quantitatively with experimental ones.This study provides a new and effective strategy for the modification and more insights to performance improvement on polymeric semiconductors in photocatalysis and energy conversion. 展开更多

Two-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenides heterostructures have stimulated wide in- terest not only for the fundamental research, but also for the application of next generation electronic and optoelectronic devices. Herein, we report a successful two-step chemical vapor deposition strategy to construct vertically stacked van der Waals epitaxial In2Se3/MoSe2 heterostructures. Transmission electron microscopy characterization reveals clearly that the In2Se3 has well-aligned lattice orientation with the substrate of monolayer MoSe2. Due to the interaction between the In2Se3 and MoSe2 layers, the heterostructure shows the quench- ing and red-shift of photoluminescence. Moreover, the current rectification behavior and photovoltaic effect can be observed from the heterostructure, which is attributed to the unique band structure alignment of the heterostructure, and is further confirmed by Kevin probe force microscopy measurement. Reducing CO_(2) to hydrocarbon fuels by solar irradiation provides a feasible channel for mitigating excessive CO_(2) emissions and addressing resource depletion.Nevertheless,severe charge recombi‐nation and the high energy barrier for CO_(2) photoreduction on the surface of photocatalysts com‐promise the catalytic performance.Herein,a 2D/2D Bi_(2)MoO_(6)/BiOI composite was fabricated to achieve improved CO_(2) photoreduction efficiency.Charge transfer in the composite was facilitated by the van der Waals heterojunction with a large‐area interface.Work function calculation demon‐strated that S‐scheme charge transfer is operative in the composite,and effective charge separation and strong redox capability were revealed by time‐resolved photoluminescence and electron para‐magnetic resonance spectroscopy.Moreover,the intermediates of CO_(2) photoreduction were identi‐fied based on the in situ diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier‐transform spectra.Density functional theory calculations showed that CO_(2) hydrogenation is the rate‐determining step for yielding CH_(4) and CO.Introducing Bi_(2)MoO_(6) into the composite further decreased the energy barrier for CO_(2) photoreduction on BiOI by 0.35 eV.This study verifies the synergistic effect of the S‐scheme heterojunction and van der Waals heterojunction in the 2D/2D composite. 展开更多

An air gun generates acoustic signals for seismic exploration by releasing a high-pressure gas.A large error is always gradually introduced into the ideal-gas model when the pressure in the air-gun chamber exceeds 100 atm.In the van der Waals non-ideal-gas theory,the gas in the air gun can be regarded as an actual gas,and the error is less than 2%.The van der Waals model is established in combination with the quasi-static open thermodynamic system and bubble-motion equation by considering the bubble rise,bubble interaction,and throttling eff ect.The mismatch between the van der Waals and ideal-gas models is related to the pressure.Theoretically,under high-pressure conditions,the van der Waals air-gun model yields results that are closer to the measured results.Marine vertical cables are extended to the seafl oor using steel cables that connect the cement blocks,but the corresponding hydrophones are suspended in the seawater.Thus,noise associated with ships,ocean surges,and coupling problems is avoided,and the signal-to-noise ratio and resolution of marine seismic data are improved.This acquisition method satisfies the conditions of recording air-gun far-fi eld wavelets.According to an actual vertical-cable observation system,the van der Waals air-gun model is used to model the wavelet of different azimuth and take-off angles.The characteristics of the experimental and simulated data demonstrate good agreement,which indicates that the van der Waals method is accurate and reliable.The accuracy of the model is directly related to the resolution,thus aff ecting the resolution ability of the stratum. 展开更多

Flexible electronics and optoelectronics exhibit inevitable trends in next-generation intelligent industries,including healthcare and wellness,electronic skins,the automotive industry,and foldable or rollable displays.Traditional bulk-material-based flexible devices considerably rely on lattice-matched crystal structures and are usually plagued by unavoidable chemical disorders at the interface.Two-dimensional van der Waals materials(2D VdWMs)have exceptional multifunctional properties,including large specific area,dangling-bond-free interface,plane-to-plane van der Waals interactions,and excellent mechanical,electrical,and optical properties.Thus,2D VdWMs have considerable application potential in functional intelligent flexible devices.To utilize the unique properties of 2D VdWMs and their van der Waals heterostructures,new designs and configurations of electronics and optoelectronics have emerged.However,these new designs and configurations do not consider lattice mismatch and process incompatibility issues.In this review,we summarized the recently reported 2D VdWM-based flexible electronic and optoelectronic devices with various functions thoroughly.Moreover,we identified the challenges and opportunities for further applications of 2D VdWM-based flexible electronics and optoelectronics. 展开更多

The geometries of van der Waals complex CO 2...CO were optimized at DFT and second order Moller Plesset perturbation(MP2) levels with the large basis set, three stable structures were found. The most stable structure has a T shape geometry in which the CO lies along the C 2 axis of CO 2, with the two C atoms direct contact and R (C...C)=0 3227 nm. The corresponding energies of the most stable structure were calculated by means of MP2, MP4D, MP4DQ, MP4SDTQ, MP4SDQ, CCSD and CCSD(T) methods. The BSSE(basis set superposition error) was eliminated by the Boys Bernardi counterpoise correction(CP) method. According to thermodynamics data, van der Waals complex CO 2...CO can be found at a low temperature and/or a high pressure. There is a little charge transferred between the two interacted subunits. In the most stable structure, CO 2 is the acceptor and CO is the donor. 展开更多
