Compared with traditional compensation methods, the EHCS makes full use of the SVC’s advantages of economy and reliability and of RPC’s advantages of technical capability and flexibility. Based on the idea of injecting a negative sequence, the compensation principle of the EHCS is analyzed in detail. Then the minimum installation capacity of an EHCS is theoretically deduced. Furthermore, a constraint optimization compensation strategy that meets national standards, which reduces compensation capacity further, is proposed. An experimental platform based on a digital signal processor(DSP) and a programmable logic controller(PLC) is built to verify the analysis. Simulated and experimental results are given to demonstrate the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed method.展开更多

First, the uncertain nonlinear differential algebraic equation model is constructed for the power system. Then, the dissipative Hamiltonian realization of the system is completed by means of variable transformation and prefeedback control. Finally, based on the obtained dissipative Hamiltonian realization, a decentralized robust nonlinear controller is put forward. The proposed controller can effectively utilize the internal structure and the energy balance property of the power system. Simulation results verify the effectiveness of the control scheme.展开更多

For LFC, the ADRC is constructed on a three-area interconnected power system. The control goal is to maintain the frequency at nominal value (60Hz in North America) and keep tie-line power flow at scheduled value. For voltage regulation, the ADRC is applied to a static var compensator (SVC) as a supplementary controller. It is utilized to maintain the voltages at nearby buses within the ANSI C84.1 limits (or +5% tolerance). Particularly, an alternative ADRC with smaller controller gains than classic ADRC is originally designed on the SVC system. From power generation and transmission to its distribution, both voltage and frequency regulating systems are subject to large and small disturbances caused by sudden load changes, transmission faults, and equipment loss/malfunction etc. The simulation results and theoretical analyses demonstrate the effectiveness of the ADRCs in compensating the disturbances and achieving the control goals.展开更多

Two sub problems are proposed. The first one is related to the active power planning to minimize the combined total fuel cost and emissions, while the second is a reactive power planning (RPP) using multi shunt FACTS device based static VAR compensator (SVC) installed at specified buses to make fine corrections to the voltage deviation, voltage phase profiles and reactive power violation. The migration operation inspired from biogeography-based optimization (BBO) algorithm is newly introduced in the proposed approach, thereby effectively exploring and exploiting promising regions in a space search by creating dynamically new efficient partitions. This new mechanism based migration between individuals from different subsystems makes the initial partitions to react more by changing experiences. To validate the robustness of the proposed approach, the proposed algorithm is tested on the Algerian 59-bus electrical network and on a large system, 40 generating units considering valve-point loading effect. Comparison of the results with recent global optimization methods show the superiority of the proposed IDE approach and confirm its potential for solving practical optimal power flow in terms of solution quality and convergence characteristics.展开更多
