The salient feature in the energy equation is accounted due to the implementation of the Cattaneo-Christov heat flux. A liquid with variable thermal conductivity is considered in the Darcy-Forchheimer porous space. The mathematical expressions of momentum and energy are coupled due to the presence of mixed convection. A highly nonlinear coupled system of equations is tackled with the homotopic algorithm. The convergence of the homotopy expressions is calculated graphically and numerically. The solutions of the velocity and temperature are expressed for various values of the Deborah number, the ratio of the relaxation time to the retardation time, the porosity parameter, the mixed convective parameter, the Darcy-Forchheimer parameter, and the conductivity parameter. The results show that the velocity and temperature are higher in Fourier's law of heat conduction cases in comparison with the Cattaneo-Christov heat flux model.展开更多

The flow is caused by non-linear stretching of a sheet. Thermal conductivity of the fluid is assumed to vary linearly with temperature. The governing partial differential equations (PDEs) are transformed into a system of coupled non-linear ordinary differential equations (ODEs) with appropriate boundary conditions for various physical parameters. The remaining system of ODEs is solved numerically using a differential transformation method (DTM). The effects of the porous parameter, the wall thickness parameter, the radiation parameter, the thermal conductivity parameter, and the Prandtl number on the flow and temperature profiles are presented. Moreover, the local skin-friction and the Nusselt numbers are presented. Comparison of the obtained numerical results is made with previously published results in some special cases, with good agreement. The results obtained in this paper confirm the idea that DTM is a powerful mathematical tool and can be applied to a large class of linear and non-linear problems in different fields of science and engineering.展开更多

The temperature dependent thermal conductivity of fluid in an asymmetric channel is taken into account. A dimensionless nonlinear system subject to a long wavelength and a low Reynolds number is solved. The explicit expressions of the stream function, the axial velocity, the pressure gradient, and the temperature are obtained. The effects of all physical parameters on peristaltic transport and heat transfer characteristics are observed from graphical illustrations. The behaviors of θ∈ [0, π/2] and θ∈ [π/2, π] on fluid flow and heat transfer are found to be opposite. Further, the size of trapped bolus is greater for the case of the inclined magnetic field (θ≠ π/2) than that for the case of the transverse magnetic field (θ = π/2). The heat transfer coefficient decreases when the constant thermal conductivity (Newtonian) fluid is changed to the variable thermal conductivity (Jeffrey) fluid.展开更多

A heat transfer analysis is carried out in the presence of thermal radiation and viscous dissipation effects. The temperature dependent thermal conductivity of the Casson fluid is considered. The relevant equations are first simplified under usual boundary layer assumptions, and then transformed into ordinary differential equations by suitable transformations. The transformed ordinary differential equations are computed for the series solutions of velocity and temperature. A convergence analysis is shown explicitly. Velocity and temperature fields are discussed for different physical parameters by graphs and numerical values. It is found that the velocity decreases with the increase in the angle of inclination while increases with the increase in the mixed convection parameter. The enhancement in the thermal conductivity and radiation effects corresponds to a higher fluid temperature. It is also found that heat transfer is more pronounced in a cylinder when it is compared with a flat plate. The thermal boundary layer thickness increases with the increase in the Eckert number. The radiation and variable thermal conductivity decreases the heat transfer rate at the surface.展开更多

During this investigation, the electrical conductivity both in Lorentz force and Joule heating is taken to be temperature dependent. Also, the long wavelength and low Reynolds number assumptions are utilized to reduce the governing partial differential equations into a set of coupled nonlinear ordinary differential equations. The new set of obtained equations is then numerically solved using the generalized differential quadrature method(GDQM). This is the first attempt to solve the nonlinear equations arising in the peristaltic flows using this method in combination with the Newton-Raphson technique. Moreover, in order to check the accuracy of the proposed numerical method, our results are compared with the results of built-in Mathematica command NDSolve. Taking Joule heating and viscous dissipation into account, the effects of various parameters appearing in the problem are used to discuss the fluid flow characteristics and heat transfer in the electrically conducting fluids graphically. In presence of variable electrical conductivity, velocity and temperature profiles are highly decreasing in nature when the intensity of the electrical conductivity parameter is strengthened.展开更多

In the temperature range 20~300 K, for samples with large Y contents, the thermally activated conduction is also observed and the plots of lg σ vs. 1/ T can be fitted by two linear functions with different slopes. In presence of variable electrical conductivity, velocity and temperature profiles are highly decreasing in nature when the intensity of the electrical conductivity parameter is strengthened.
文摘The rheological features of an incompressible axi-symmetric Casson-Maxwell nanofluid flow between two stationary disks are examined. The lower permeable disk is located at z=-a,while the upper disk is placed at z=a.Both the disks are porous and subjected to uniform injection. The fluid properties such as thermal conductivity vary with temperature. The Cattaneo-Christov thermal expression is implemented along with the Buongiorno nanofluid theory.By operating the similarity functions, the reduced form of the fluid model in terms of ordinary differential equations is obtained and solved by the bvp4 c numerical technique. The physical quantities are demonstrated graphically on the velocity and temperature fields.Three-dimensional flow arrangements and twodimensional contour patterns against several dimensionless variables are also sketched. The numerical values of the local Nusselt and Sherwood numbers for various quantities are presented in tabular set-up.The intensity of the linear relationship between the Nusselt and Sherwood numbers is assessed through Pearson’s product-moment correlation technique. The statistical implication of the linear association between variables is also examined by the t-test statistic approach.
文摘The present study reveals the effect of homogeneous/hetereogeneous reaction on stagnation point flow of Williamson fluid in the presence of magnetohydrodynamics and heat generation/absorption coefficient over a stretching cylinder. Further the effects of variable thermal conductivity and thermal stratification are also considered. The governing partial differential equations are converted to ordinary differential equations with the help of similarity transformation. The system of coupled non-linear ordinary differential equations is then solved by shooting technique. MATLAB shooting code is validated by comparison with the previously published work in limiting case. Results are further strengthened when the present results are compared with MATLAB built-in function bvp4c. Effects of prominent parameters are deliberated graphically for the velocity, temperature and concentration profiles. Skin-friction coefficient and Nusselt number for the different parameters are investigated with the help of tables.
文摘Conductive n type a Si∶H∶Y alloy films with the conductivity as high as 60 S/cm have been deposited on Si substrate by radio frequency sputtering. In the temperature range 20~300 K, for samples with large Y contents, the thermally activated conduction is also observed and the plots of lg σ vs. 1/ T can be fitted by two linear functions with different slopes. The corresponding temperatures of the kinks between the two straight lines depend on the Y contents in the samples. For small Y content films, the conductivities can be fitted to the funciton σ∝ exp (-1/ T 1/4 ). The present results are interpreted using different conduction mechanisms in different temperature ranges for samples with different Y contents.
