The goal of this work is to create stable models of globular clusters based on the laws of mechanics. It is necessary to set the coordinates, velocities and masses of the stars so that as a result of their gravitational interaction the globular cluster is not destroyed. This is not an easy task, and it has been solved in this paper. Using an exact solution of the axisymmetric gravitational interaction of N-bodies, single-layer spherical structures were created. They are combined into multilayer models of globular clusters. An algorithm and a program for their creation is described. As a result of solving the problem of gravitational interaction of N bodies, evolution of 5-, 10-, and 15-layer structures was studied. During the inter-body interaction, there proceeds a transition from the initial specially organized structure to a structure with bodies, uniformly distributed in space. The number of inter-body collisions decreases, and the globular cluster model passes into the stable form of its existence. The collisions of bodies and the acquisition of rotational motion and thermal energy by them are considered. As a result of the passage to scaled dimensions, the results were recalculated to the conditions of globular star clusters. The periods of rotation and the temperatures of merged stars are calculated. Attention is paid to a decreased central-body mass in the analyzed models of globular star clusters.展开更多

Based on a modified radio ephemeris updated by tool tempo2, we analyze the ~15 yr γ-ray data obtained from the Large Area Telescope on board the Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope and detect PSR J1740-5340B's γ-ray pulsation at a confidence level of ~4σ with a weighted H-test value of ~26. By performing a phase-resolved analysis, the γ-ray luminosity in on-pulse interval of PSR J1740-5340B is L_(γ)~ 3.8 × 10^(33) erg s^(-1) using NGC 6397's distance of 2.48 kpc. And γ-rays from the on-pulse part of PSR J1740-5340B contribute ~90% of the total observed γ-ray emissions from NGC 6397. No significant γ-ray pulsation of another MSP J1740-5340A in the GC is detected.Considering that the previous four cases of MSPs in GCs, more data in γ-ray, X-ray, and radio are encouraged to finally confirm the γ-ray emissions from MSP J1740-5340B, especially starving for a precise ephemeris.展开更多

The physical properties, classifications and memberships of these 22 objects are studied through their light curves, their positions on the color-magnitude diagram and with archival data from the Naval Observatory Merged Astrometric Dataset. Among these objects, five are eclipsing binary systems, six are pulsating variable stars including one known 6 Scuti star and one newly-discovered RR Lyrae star. The distance to the RR Lyrae star is estimated to be 7.9 - 0.3 kpc, indicating that the star is located far behind the cluster. Four variable stars are probable members of the cluster, and 13 of the 22 objects are confirmed to be field stars.展开更多

Ten variable stars are detected, among which nine are new variable stars and they are classified as three short-period W UMa-type eclipsing binaries, two EA- type eclipsing binaries, one EB-type eclipsing binary, one very short-period RS CVn- type eclipsing binary, one d-type RR Lyrae variable star, and one unknown type of variable star. The membership and physical properties are discussed, based on their light curves, positions in the color magnitude diagrams, spatial locations and periods. A known EB-type eclipsing binary is also identified as a blue straggler candidate in the cluster. Furthermore, we find that all eclipsing contact binaries have prominent asymmetric eclipses and display the O'Connell effect, which increases with a decrease in orbital periods. This suggests that the O'Connell effect is probably related to the evolution of the orbital period in short period eclipsing binary systems.展开更多

We detected 55 variable stars in the field of view, 42 of them are newly discovered: six binaries, 22 pulsating stars, 14 unclassified variables. We discussed the physical properties and classifications of the variable stars through their light curves. The cross-matching with the members catalog of NGC 1245 suggests that 10 variable stars are identified as probable cluster members, which including one EW type binary, eight δ Scuti stars, and an unknown type variable star. Since the difference of the members catalog of the cluster and the limitations of the instrument, there are some huge differences in the variable list of NGC 1245 compared with the previous work.展开更多

In about a one square degree field covering the cluster, a total of 21 variable candidates are detected during this survey, of which 16 are newly found. By a method based on fitting observed spectral energy distributions of stars with theoretical ones, the membership probabilities and the fundamental parameters of this cluster are determined. As a result, five variables are probably members of NGC 2126. The fundamental parameters of this cluster are determined as: metallicity to be 0.008 Z, age log(t) = 8.95, distance modulus (m - M)0 = 10.34 and reddening value E(B - V) = 0.55 mag.展开更多

The tangential ve- locities of these EHB stars are determined to be in the range 93-313 km s^-1, with an average uncertainty of -27 km s^-1. The central escape velocity of the cluster is determined to be in the range 60~105 km s^-1. These EHB stars are significantly more concentrated toward the cluster core compared with other cluster members. The formation mechanisms of these EHB stars are discussed. Our conclusions can be sum- marized as follows: (1) A comparison of the tangential velocities of these EHB stars to the central escape velocity of the cluster shows that most if not all of these EHB stars are unbound to the cluster; (2) These EHB stars obtained high velocities in the central cluster region no longer than - 1 Myr ago and may be subsequently ejected from the cluster in the next -1 Myr; (3) If the progenitors of these EHB stars were single stars, then they may have experienced a fast mass-loss process. If the progen- itors were in close binaries, then they may have formed through disruptions by the intermediate-mass black hole in the cluster center.展开更多

This paper studies the CMDs of twelve globular clusters via binary- star stellar populations. The observational CMDs of the star clusters are compared to those of binary-star populations, and then the stellar metallicities, ages, distances and reddenings of these star clusters are obtained. The paper also tests the different effects of binary and single stars on CMD studies. It is shown that binaries can better fit the observational CMDs of the sample globular clusters compared to single stars. This suggests that the effects of binary evolution should be considered when modeling the CMDs and stellar populations of star clusters and galaxies.展开更多

文摘Recently, a new radio millisecond pulsar(MSP) J1740-5340B, hosted in the globular cluster(GC) NGC 6397,was reported with a 5.78 ms spin period in an eclipsing binary system with a 1.97 days orbital period. No significant γ-ray pulsation of another MSP J1740-5340A in the GC is detected.Considering that the previous four cases of MSPs in GCs, more data in γ-ray, X-ray, and radio are encouraged to finally confirm the γ-ray emissions from MSP J1740-5340B, especially starving for a precise ephemeris.

文摘This paper presents Charge-Coupled Device time-series photometric observations of the open cluster NGC 1582 and its surrounding field with Johnson B, V and R filters by using the Nanshan 1 m telescope administered by Xinjiang Astronomical Observatory. 19 variable stars and three variable candi- dates were detected in a 45' - 48.75' field around the cluster. 12 of the variable stars are newly-discovered variable objects. Four variable stars are probable members of the cluster, and 13 of the 22 objects are confirmed to be field stars.
文摘Elemental abundance patterns of globular cluster stars can provide important clues for understanding cluster formation and early chemical evolution. The origin of the abundance patterns, however, still remains poorly understood. We have studied the impact of p-capture reaction cycles on the abundances of oxygen, sodium and aluminium considering nuclear reaction cycles of carbon-nitrogenoxygen-fluorine,neon-sodium and magnesium-aluminium in massive stars in stellar conditions of temperature range 2×107to 10×107K and typical density of 102gm cc-1.We have estimated abundances of oxygen, sodium and aluminium with respect to Fe,which are then assumed to be ejected from those stars because of rotation reaching a critical limit. These ejected abundances of elements are then compared with their counterparts that have been observed in some metal-poor evolved stars, mainly giants and red giants,of globular clusters M3,M4,M13 and NGC 6752.We observe an excellent agreement with[O/Fe]between the estimated and observed abundance values for globular clusters M3 and M4 with a correlation coefficient above 0.9 and a strong linear correlation for the remaining two clusters with a correlation coefficient above 0.7.The estimated[Na/Fe]is found to have a correlation coefficient above 0.7,thus implying a strong correlation for all four globular clusters. As far as[Al/Fe]is concerned,it also shows a strong correlation between the estimated abundance and the observed abundance for globular clusters M13 and NGC 6752,since here also the correlation coefficient is above 0.7 whereas for globular cluster M4 there is a moderate correlation found with a correlation coefficient above 0.6.Possible sources of these discrepancies are discussed.

文摘We report the results of a search for variable stars in the open cluster NGC 2141. This suggests that the O'Connell effect is probably related to the evolution of the orbital period in short period eclipsing binary systems.

文摘The red giant branch(RGB)of globular clusters(GCs)is home to some exotic stars, which may provide clues on the formation of multiple stellar populations in GCs.It is well known that binary interactions are responsible for many exotic stars. Thus,it is important to understand what fraction of stars on the RGB of GCs is the result of binary interactions. In this paper,we performed a binary population synthesis study to track the number of post-binary-interaction(post-BI)stars that appear on the RGB,with particular emphasis on the evolved blue straggler stars(E-BSSs).Assuming an initial binary fraction of nearly 50%,we find that about half of the objects on the RGB(called giants)underwent the binary interactions, and that E-BSSs account for around 10%of the giants in our standard simulation. We also compare the properties of post-BI giants that evolved from different channels. We find that the initial orbital period and mass ratio distributions significantly affect the fraction of post-BI giants. Our results imply that the non-standard stars from binary interactions provide a non-negligible contribution to the RGB stars in GCs,which should be considered in future investigations of the origin of multiple stellar populations.

文摘We used the Nanshan 1 m telescope of Xinjiang Astronomical Observatory to investigate variable stars in the region of NGC 1245. Since the difference of the members catalog of the cluster and the limitations of the instrument, there are some huge differences in the variable list of NGC 1245 compared with the previous work.

文摘This work presents the charge-coupled device(CCD)photometric survey of the old open cluster NGC 188.Timeseries V-band photometric observations were conducted for ten nights in 2017 January using the Nanshan Onemeter Wide-field Telescope to search for variable stars in the field of the cluster.A total of 25 variable stars, including one new variable star, were detected in the target field.Among the detected variables,16 are cluster member stars, and the others are identified as field stars. The periods, radial velocities, effective temperatures, and classifications of the detected variables are discussed in this work. Most of the stars’effective temperatures are between 4200 and 6600 K,indicating their spectral types are G or K.The newly discovered variable is probably a W UMa system. In this study,a known cluster variable star(V21=V0769 Cep)is classified as an EA-type variable star based on the presence of an 0.5 mag eclipse in its light curve.

文摘In this work,we studied the variable stars in the open cluster NGC 1912 based on the photometric observations and Gaia DR2 data.More than 3600 CCD frames in B,V,R filters were reduced, and we obtained the light curves that span about 63 hours.By analyzing these light curves,we detected 24 variable stars, including 16 periodic variable stars, seven eclipsing binaries and one star whose type is unclear.Among these 24 variable stars,11 are newly discovered, which are classified as sixγDoradus stars, oneδScuti star, three detached binaries and one contact binary. We also confirmed 13 previously known variable stars.Based on cluster members identified by Cantat-Gaudin et al.(2018),we inferred cluster memberships for these detected variable stars.Using Gaia DR2 data,we plotted a new color-magnitude diagram for NGC1912,and showed the nature of variable cluster members in kinematical properties and heliocentric distance.Among the 24 variable stars, seven variables are probable cluster members, which show homogeneity in kinematic characters and space position with the established cluster members.Four of the seven variable cluster members are the previously discovered stars, consisting of twoγDor stars and twoδSct stars. The remaining three variable cluster members, which are allγDor stars, are firstly detected in this work. The main physical parameters of these variable cluster members estimated from the color-magnitude diagram are log(age/yr)=8.75,[Fe/H]=-0.1,m-M=10.03 mag,and E(B-V)=0.307.

文摘We report the results of a time-series CCD photometric survey of variable stars in the field of open cluster NGC 2126. In about a one square degree field covering the cluster, a total of 21 variable candidates are detected during this survey, of which 16 are newly found. The periods, classifications and spectral types of 14 newly discovered variables are discussed, which consist of six eclipsing binary systems, three pulsating variable stars, three long period variables, one RS CVn star, and one W UMa or δ Scuff star. In addition, there are two variable candidates, the properties of which cannot be determined. By a method based on fitting observed spectral energy distributions of stars with theoretical ones, the membership probabilities and the fundamental parameters of this cluster are determined. As a result, five variables are probably members of NGC 2126. The fundamental parameters of this cluster are determined as: metallicity to be 0.008 Z, age log(t) = 8.95, distance modulus (m - M)0 = 10.34 and reddening value E(B - V) = 0.55 mag.

文摘Abstract We report the discovery of 45 high-velocity extreme horizontal branch (EHB) stars in the globular cluster Omega Centauri (NGC 5139). If the progen- itors were in close binaries, then they may have formed through disruptions by the intermediate-mass black hole in the cluster center.

文摘Binary stars are common in star clusters and galaxies, but the detailed ef- fects of binary evolution are not taken into account in some color-magnitude diagram (CMD) studies. This suggests that the effects of binary evolution should be considered when modeling the CMDs and stellar populations of star clusters and galaxies.

文摘We present the results of a time-series CCD photometric survey of variable stars in the field of the open cluster NGC 7789. In a field of about one degree centering on the cluster, a total of 28 new variable stars are discovered (14 W UMa systems, nine EA-type eclipsing binaries, one RR Lyr star, and four unclassified). In addition, we recovered 11 old variables previously discovered by other authors. Preliminary parameters are given for some of these variables.
