Multiplicative noise removal problems have attracted much attention in recent years.Unlike additive noise,multiplicative noise destroys almost all information of the original image,especially for texture images.Motivated by the TV-Stokes model,we propose a new two-step variational model to denoise the texture images corrupted by multiplicative noise with a good geometry explanation in this paper.In the first step,we convert the multiplicative denoising problem into an additive one by the logarithm transform and propagate the isophote directions in the tangential field smoothing.Once the isophote directions are constructed,an image is restored to fit the constructed directions in the second step.The existence and uniqueness of the solution to the variational problems are proved.In these two steps,we use the gradient descent method and construct finite difference schemes to solve the problems.Especially,the augmented Lagrangian method and the fast Fourier transform are adopted to accelerate the calculation.Experimental results show that the proposed model can remove the multiplicative noise efficiently and protect the texture well. 展开更多

An efficient parallel algorithm of variational nodal method for heterogeneous neutron transport problems

The heterogeneous variational nodal method(HVNM)has emerged as a potential approach for solving high-fidelity neutron transport problems.However,achieving accurate results with HVNM in large-scale problems using high-fidelity models has been challenging due to the prohibitive computational costs.This paper presents an efficient parallel algorithm tailored for HVNM based on the Message Passing Interface standard.The algorithm evenly distributes the response matrix sets among processors during the matrix formation process,thus enabling independent construction without communication.Once the formation tasks are completed,a collective operation merges and shares the matrix sets among the processors.For the solution process,the problem domain is decomposed into subdomains assigned to specific processors,and the red-black Gauss-Seidel iteration is employed within each subdomain to solve the response matrix equation.Point-to-point communication is conducted between adjacent subdomains to exchange data along the boundaries.The accuracy and efficiency of the parallel algorithm are verified using the KAIST and JRR-3 test cases.Numerical results obtained with multiple processors agree well with those obtained from Monte Carlo calculations.The parallelization of HVNM results in eigenvalue errors of 31 pcm/-90 pcm and fission rate RMS errors of 1.22%/0.66%,respectively,for the 3D KAIST problem and the 3D JRR-3 problem.In addition,the parallel algorithm significantly reduces computation time,with an efficiency of 68.51% using 36 processors in the KAIST problem and 77.14% using 144 processors in the JRR-3 problem. 展开更多

Infrasound,known for its strong penetration and low attenuation,is extensively used in monitoring and warning systems for debris flows.Here,a debris-flow forecasting method was proposed by combining infrasound-based variational mode decomposition and Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average(ARIMA)model.High-precision infrasound sensor was utilized in experiments to record signals under twelve varying conditions of debris flow volume and velocity.Variational mode decomposition was performed on the detected raw signals,and the optimal decomposition scale and penalty factor were obtained through the sparrow search algorithm.The Hilbert transform,rescaled range analysis,power spectrum analysis,and Pearson correlation coefficients judgment criteria were employed to separate and reconstruct the signals.Based on the reconstructed infrasound signals,an ARIMA model was constructed to forecast the trend of debris flow infrasound signal.Results reveal that the Hilbert transform effectively separated noise,and the predictive model’s results fell within a 95%confidence interval.The Mean Absolute Percentage Error(MAPE)across four experiments were 4.87%,5.23%,5.32%and 4.47%,respectively,showing a satisfactory accuracy and providing an alternative for predicting debris flow by infrasound signals. 展开更多

The sea surface wind field is an important physical parameter in oceanography and meteorology.With the continuous refinement of numerical weather prediction,air-sea interface materials,energy exchange,and other studies,three-dimensional(3D)wind field distribution at local locations on the sea surface must be measured accurately.The current in-situ observation of sea surface wind parameters is mainly achieved through the installation of wind sensors on ocean data buoys.However,the results obtained from this single-point measurement method cannot reflect wind field distribution in a vertical direction above the sea surface.Thus,the present paper proposes a theoretical framework for the optimal inversion of the 3D wind field structure variation in the area where the buoy is located.The variation analysis method is first used to reconstruct the wind field distribution at different heights of the buoy,after which theoretical analysis verification and numerical simulation experiments are conducted.The results indicate that the use of variational methods to reconstruct 3D wind fields is significantly effective in eliminating disturbance errors in observations,which also verifies the correctness of the theoretical analysis of this method.The findings of this article can provide a reference for the layout optimization design of wind measuring instruments in buoy observation systems and also provide theoretical guidance for the design of new observation buoys in the future. 展开更多

Video transmission requires considerable bandwidth,and current widely employed schemes prove inadequate when confronted with scenes featuring prominently.Motivated by the strides in talkinghead generative technology,the paper introduces a semantic transmission system tailored for talking-head videos.The system captures semantic information from talking-head video and faithfully reconstructs source video at the receiver,only one-shot reference frame and compact semantic features are required for the entire transmission.Specifically,we analyze video semantics in the pixel domain frame-by-frame and jointly process multi-frame semantic information to seamlessly incorporate spatial and temporal information.Variational modeling is utilized to evaluate the diversity of importance among group semantics,thereby guiding bandwidth resource allocation for semantics to enhance system efficiency.The whole endto-end system is modeled as an optimization problem and equivalent to acquiring optimal rate-distortion performance.We evaluate our system on both reference frame and video transmission,experimental results demonstrate that our system can improve the efficiency and robustness of communications.Compared to the classical approaches,our system can save over 90%of bandwidth when user perception is close. 展开更多

Leveraging the extraordinary phenomena of quantum superposition and quantum correlation,quantum computing offers unprecedented potential for addressing challenges beyond the reach of classical computers.This paper tackles two pivotal challenges in the realm of quantum computing:firstly,the development of an effective encoding protocol for translating classical data into quantum states,a critical step for any quantum computation.Different encoding strategies can significantly influence quantum computer performance.Secondly,we address the need to counteract the inevitable noise that can hinder quantum acceleration.Our primary contribution is the introduction of a novel variational data encoding method,grounded in quantum regression algorithm models.By adapting the learning concept from machine learning,we render data encoding a learnable process.This allowed us to study the role of quantum correlation in data encoding.Through numerical simulations of various regression tasks,we demonstrate the efficacy of our variational data encoding,particularly post-learning from instructional data.Moreover,we delve into the role of quantum correlation in enhancing task performance,especially in noisy environments.Our findings underscore the critical role of quantum correlation in not only bolstering performance but also in mitigating noise interference,thus advancing the frontier of quantum computing. 展开更多

The finite element method (FEM) plays a valuable role in computer modeling and is beneficial to the mechanicaldesign of various structural parts. However, the elements produced by conventional FEM are easily inaccurate andunstable when applied. Therefore, developing new elements within the framework of the generalized variationalprinciple is of great significance. In this paper, an 8-node plane hybrid finite element with 15 parameters (PHQ8-15β) is developed for structural mechanics problems based on the Hellinger-Reissner variational principle.According to the design principle of Pian, 15 unknown parameters are adopted in the selection of stress modes toavoid the zero energy modes.Meanwhile, the stress functions within each element satisfy both the equilibrium andthe compatibility relations of plane stress problems. Subsequently, numerical examples are presented to illustrate theeffectiveness and robustness of the proposed finite element. Numerical results show that various common lockingbehaviors of plane elements can be overcome. The PH-Q8-15β element has excellent performance in all benchmarkproblems, especially for structures with varying cross sections. Furthermore, in bending problems, the reasonablemesh shape of the new element for curved edge structures is analyzed in detail, which can be a useful means toimprove numerical accuracy. 展开更多

Electric vibrators find wide applications in reliability testing, waveform generation, and vibration simulation, making their noise characteristics a topic of significant interest. While Variational Mode Decomposition (VMD) and Empirical Wavelet Transform (EWT) offer valuable support for studying signal components, they also present certain limitations. This article integrates the strengths of both methods and proposes an enhanced approach that integrates VMD into the frequency band division principle of EWT. Initially, the method decomposes the signal using VMD, determining the mode count based on residuals, and subsequently employs EWT decomposition based on this information. This addresses mode aliasing issues in the original method while capitalizing on VMD’s adaptability. Feasibility was confirmed through simulation signals and ultimately applied to noise signals from vibrators. Experimental results demonstrate that the improved method not only resolves EWT frequency band division challenges but also effectively decomposes signal components compared to the VMD method. 展开更多

In order to further analyze the micro-motion modulation signals generated by rotating components and extract micro-motion features,a modulation signal denoising algorithm based on improved variational mode decomposition(VMD)is proposed.To improve the time-frequency performance,this method decomposes the data into narrowband signals and analyzes the internal energy and frequency variations within the signal.Genetic algorithms are used to adaptively optimize the mode number and bandwidth control parameters in the process of VMD.This approach aims to obtain the optimal parameter combination and perform mode decomposition on the micro-motion modulation signal.The optimal mode number and quadratic penalty factor for VMD are determined.Based on the optimal values of the mode number and quadratic penalty factor,the original signal is decomposed using VMD,resulting in optimal mode number intrinsic mode function(IMF)components.The effective modes are then reconstructed with the denoised modes,achieving signal denoising.Through experimental data verification,the proposed algorithm demonstrates effective denoising of modulation signals.In simulation data validation,the algorithm achieves the highest signal-to-noise ratio(SNR)and exhibits the best performance. 展开更多

The method is to construct an energy trial-functional with an unknown function F, which can be readily identified by making the trial-functional stationary and using known constraint equations. As a result generalized variational principles with two kinds of independent variables (such as well-known Hellinger-Reissner variational principle and Hu-Washizu principle) and generalized variational principles with three kinds of independent variables (such as Chien's generalized variational principles) in elasticity have been deduced without using Lagrange multiplier method. By semi-inverse method, the author has also proved that Hu-Washizu principle is actually a variational principle with only two kinds of independent variables, stress-strain relations are still its constraints. 展开更多

In using Lagrange multiplier method to deduce Hu-Washizu principle from the minimum potential energy principle, which has only one kind of independent variable namely displacement, by eliminating the constraint equations of stress-displacement relations, one can only obtain a principle with two kinds of variables namely displacement and stress; 2) involutory transformation, with such method Hu-Washizu variational principle can be deduce directly from the Hellinger-Reissner variational principle under the same variational constraints of Stress-strain relation, and vice verse; 3)semi-inverse method, by which both of the above variational principles can be deduced from the minimum potential energy principle with tile same variational constraints. For the prediction of ENSO, the accuracy of the model including the parameters, initial value and others of the model is important, which can be retrieved by the variational data assimilation methods developed in recent years. However, when the nonlinearity of the model is quite strong, the effect of the improvement made by the 4-D variational data assimilation may be poor due to the bad approximation of the tangent linear model to the original model. So in the paper the ideas in the optimal control is introduced to improve the effect of 4-DVAR in the inversion of the parameters of a nonlinear dynamic ENSO model. The results indicate that when the terminal controlling term is added to the cost functional of 4DVAR, which originated from the optimal control, the effect of the inversion may be largely improved comparing to the traditional 4DVAR, as can be especially obvious from the phase orbit of the model variables. The results in the paper also suggest that the method of 4DVAR in combination with optimal control cannot only reduce the error resulting from the inaccuracy of the model parameters but also can correct the parameters itself. This gives a good method in modifying the model and improving the quality of prediction of ENSO. 展开更多

This is unacceptable on physical grounds in spite of the fact that Fourier’s law agrees well with experiment. However, discrepancies are likely to occur when extremely short distances or extremely short time intervals are considered, as they must in some modern problems of aero-thermodynamics. Cattaneo and independently Vernotte proved that such process can be described by Heaviside’s telegraph equation. This paper shows that this fact can be derived using calculus of variations, by application of the Euler-Lagrange equation. So, we proved that the equation of heat conduction with finite velocity propagation of the thermal disturbance can be obtained as a solution to one variational problem. 展开更多

For addressing impulse noise in images, this paper proposes a denoising algorithm for non-convex impulse noise images based on the l_(0) norm fidelity term. Since the total variation of the l_(0) norm has a better denoising effect on the pulse noise, it is chosen as the model fidelity term, and the overlapping group sparse term combined with non-convex higher term is used as the regularization term of the model to protect the image edge texture and suppress the staircase effect. At the same time, the alternating direction method of multipliers, the majorization–minimization method and the mathematical program with equilibrium constraints were used to solve the model. Experimental results show that the proposed model can effectively suppress the staircase effect in smooth regions, protect the image edge details, and perform better in terms of the peak signal-to-noise ratio and the structural similarity index measure. 展开更多

The paper proposes an approximate solution to the classical (parabolic) multidimensional 2D and 3D heat conduction equation for a 5 × 5 cm aluminium plate and a 5 × 5 × 5 cm aluminum cube. An approximate solution of the generalized (hyperbolic) 2D and 3D equation for the considered plate and cube is also proposed. Approximate solutions were obtained by applying calculus of variations and Euler-Lagrange equations. In order to verify the correctness of the proposed approximate solutions, they were compared with the exact solutions of parabolic and hyperbolic equations.
