The tracheal apical extracellular matrix(aECM)is vital for expansion of the tracheal lumen and supports the normal structure of the lumen to guarantee air entry and circulation in insects.Although it has been found th...The tracheal apical extracellular matrix(aECM)is vital for expansion of the tracheal lumen and supports the normal structure of the lumen to guarantee air entry and circulation in insects.Although it has been found that some cuticular proteins are involved in the organization of the aECM,unidentified factors still exist.Here,we found that mind the gap(Mtg),a predicted chitin-binding protein,is required for the normal formation of the apical chitin matrix of airway tubes in the model holometabolous insect Drosophila melanogaster.Similar to chitin,the Mtg protein was linearly arranged in the tracheal dorsal trunk of the tracheae in Drosophila.Decreased mtg expression in the tracheae seriously affected the viability of larvae and caused tracheal chitin spiral defects in some larvae.Analysis of mtg mutant showed that mtg was required for normal development of tracheae in embryos.Irregular taenidial folds of some mtg mutant embryos were found on either lateral view of tracheal dorsal trunk or internal view of transmission electron microscopy analysis.These abnormal tracheae were not fully filled with gas and accompanied by a reduction in tracheal width,which are characteristic phenotypes of tracheal aECM defects.Furthermore,in the hemimetabolous brown planthopper(BPH)Nilapat'vata lugens,downregulation of NICPAP1-N(a homolog of mtg)also led to the formation of abnormal tracheal chitin spirals and death.These results suggest that mtg and its homolog are involved in the proper organization of the tracheal aECMs in flies and BPH,and that this function may be conserved in insects.展开更多
China plans to develop the next generation dark matter particle explorer satellite,referred to as the Very Large Area Space Telescope(VLAST).As an essential step in this process,the prototype design of detectors and e...China plans to develop the next generation dark matter particle explorer satellite,referred to as the Very Large Area Space Telescope(VLAST).As an essential step in this process,the prototype design of detectors and electronics for the VLAST is currently underway.The nuclide detector is a core detector in the VLAST.It mainly measures nuclides’charges and distinguishes high-energy gamma rays and electrons.This paper will discuss the prototype readout electronics for the VLAST’s nuclide detector,which accurately measures the charge signal of the photomultiplier tubes using the VATA160 applicationspecific integrated circuit chip;furthermore,we consider a series of critical problems,including radiation-hardening and environment monitoring.The test results show that the system exhibits stable operation,good performance,and good technical indicators.Furthermore,each electronic channel achieves a dynamic range of 0-12.5 pC,the random noise level exceeds 1.6 fC,and the integral nonlinearity exceeds 0.35%.展开更多
Objective:In the Ayurvedic system of medicine,body constitution(prakruthi) is said to play a vital role in the disease process as well as in its progression.Free radical toxicity is also involved in the etiopathogenes...Objective:In the Ayurvedic system of medicine,body constitution(prakruthi) is said to play a vital role in the disease process as well as in its progression.Free radical toxicity is also involved in the etiopathogenesis of many disorders.Hence,in the present study an attempt has been made to correlate the body constitution type and the antioxidant status of that prakruthi.Methods:Healthy volunteers from Manipal University Campus, South Karnataka,India were classified into three main human constitutions(prakruthi) and their possible combinations and their serum total antioxidant activity was determined.Results:There was a significant negative correlation of the total antioxidant status with the pitta prakruthi whereas vata and kapha constitutions showed no significant correlation with the total antioxidant status.Conclusion:Ayurveda classifies each individual based on his/her prakruthi into three categories of Doshas:Vata,Pitta and Kapha(collectively known as Tridoshas ). The three Doshas are fundamental regulatory principles responsible for maintaining organism functioning and manifesting those characteristics typifying each individual,that is,in equilibrium Tridoshas signify health and an imbalance leads to disease.Thus,in this study a significantly decreased antioxidant status in the Pitta group would render them more susceptible to damage by oxidative stress.Hence,we suggest that supplementation with antioxidants of herbal(Ayurvedic) origin to such a group would prove to be beneficial - opening up the arena for pharmacogenomics and customized antioxidant drug administration based on the prakruthi of an individual.展开更多
