The experiments were done by oscillating a circular cylinder in still water. Instantaneous forces and velocity fields around the cylinder were measured by Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV). The Keulegan-Carpenter number (KC) varied in the range from 5 to 20 and the viscous parameter beta = Re / KC was set at 500 (Re is Reynolds number). It was found that the strength and frequency of the lift force increased with KC number, the main frequency of the lift force being three times the frequency of the oscillatory flow at KC = 20. The movement and strength of the vortices around the cylinder are discussed for different KC numbers. 展开更多

Existing mechanism of simulating soil movement at tunnel face is generally based on the translational or rotational velocity field,which is,to some extent,different from the real soil movement in the arching zone.Numerical simulations are carried out first to investigate the characteristics of the velocity distribution at tunnel face and above tunnel vault.Then a new kinematically admissible velocity field is proposed to improve the description of the soil movement according to the results of the numerical simulation.Based on the proposed velocity field,an improved failure mechanism is constructed adopting the spatial discretization technique,which takes into account soil arching effect and plastic deformation within soil mass.Finally,the critical face pressure and the proposed mechanism are compared with the results of the numerical simulation,existing analytical studies and experimental tests to verify the accuracy and improvement of the presented method.The proposed mechanism can serve as an alternative approach for the face stability analysis. 展开更多

Experimental studies which focus on flow visualization and the velocity field of a supersonic laminar/turbulent flow over a compression ramp were carried out in a Mach 3.0 wind tunnel. Fine flow structures and velocity field structures were obtained via NPLS (nanoparticle-tracer planar laser scattering) and PIV (particle image velocimetry) techniques, time- averaged flow structures were researched, and spatiotemporal evolutions of transient flow structures were analyzed. The flow visualization results indicated that when the ramp angles were 25~, a typical separation occurred in the laminar flow, some typical flow structures such as shock induced by the boundary layer, separation shock, reversed flow and reattachment shock were visible clearly. While a certain extent separation occurred in turbulent flow, the separation region was much smaller. When the ramp angles were 28~, laminar flow separated further, and the separation region expanded evidently, flow structures in the separation region were complex. While a typical separation occurred in turbulent flow, reversed flow structures were significant, flow structures in the separation region were relatively simple. The experimental results of velocity field were corresponding to flow visualization, and the velocity field structures of both compression ramp flows agreed with the flow structures well. There were three layered structures in the U component velocity, and the V component velocity appeared like an oblique "v". Some differences between these two compression ramp flows can be observed in the velocity profiles of the shear layer and the shearing intensity. 展开更多

For the sake of solving the problem that it is difficult to be integrated for the Mises specific plastic power due to its nonlinearity,a new linear criterion,named the globally optimal approximation criterion,is constructed by the polygonal approximation to the Mises circle.The new criterion is proved to be the linear function of the principal stress componentsσ1,σ2 andσ3 and the trajectory of it on theπ-plane is a non-equiangular but equilateral dodecagon intersecting the Mises circle.The theoretical results of the current criterion described by the Lode stress parameters are in excellent accordance with the experimental results.Meanwhile,according to the trend that the metallic flow velocity between rollers aggrandizes gradually from the inlet to the outlet during the hot rolling of a thick plate,a biomimetic velocity field is proposed in which the horizontal velocity component fits the egg-circular curve distribution.The velocity field and its simulated results agree quite well.Subsequently,using the determined linear criterion,energy analysis of the constructed velocity field is utilized to obtain the interior deformation power,while the vector decomposition approach is utilized to obtain the frictional power and shear power.On this basis,the overall power is obtained and the analytical solutions are generated for the rolling torque,rolling force and the coefficient of the stress state under different egg curves by minimizing the neutral angle.Furthermore,the parameter optimization of the characteristic parameterρwhich affects the slope of the egg-circular curve is carried out and the best egg-circular curve which can minimize the energy consumption is determined.The best agreement between the theoretical and observed values of rolling force and rolling torque is under this curve,and the mean relative errors of the rolling torque and rolling force are no more than 2.93%,while the maximum error is no more than 8.35%. 展开更多

The scarcity of in-situ ocean observations poses a challenge for real-time information acquisition in the ocean,Among the crucial hydroacoustic environmental parameters,ocean sound velocity exhibits significant spatial and temporal variability and it is highly relevant io oceanic research.In this study,we propose a new data-driven approach,leveraging deep learning techniques,for the prediction of sound velocity fields(SVFs).Our novel spatiotemporal prediction model,ST-LSTM-SA,combincs Spatiotemporal Long Short-Tcrm Mcmory(ST-LSTM)with a sclf-attention mcchanism to cnablc accurate and real-time prediction of svFs.To circumvent the limited amount of observational data,we employ transfer learning by first training the model using reanalysis datasets,followed by fine-luning it using in-silu analysis dala lo obtain the final prediction model.By utilizing the historical 12-month SVFs as input,our model predicts the SVFs for the subsequent three months.We compare the performance of five models:Artificial Neural Networks(ANN),Long Short-Term Memory(LSTM).Convolutional LSTM(ConvLSTM),ST-LSTM,and our proposed ST-LSTM-SA model in a iest experiment spanning 2019 to 2022.Our results demonstrate that the ST-LSTM-SA model significantly improves the prcdiction accuracy and stability of sound velocity in both tcmporal and spatial dimcnsions.Thc ST-LSTM-SA model not only accurately predicts the ocean sound velocity field(SVF),but also provides valuable insights for spatiotemporal prediclion of other oceanic environmental variables. 展开更多

Accurate measurements of physical parameters in a scramjet isolator are very important to promote the design and optimization of the isolator and even the scramjet.In a ground experiment,limited by the inherent characteristics of measurement technology and equipment,it is a big challenge to obtain the velocity field inside an isolator.In this study,a deep learning approach was introduced to combine data obtained from ground experiments and numerical simulations,and a velocity field prediction model was developed for obtaining the velocity field inside an isolator based on experimental Schlieren images.The velocity field prediction model was designed with convolutional neural networks as the main structure.Ground experiments of a scramjet isolator under continuous Mach number variation were carried out,and Schlieren images of the flow field inside the isolator were collected.Numerical simulations of the isolator were also carried out,and the velocity fields inside the isolator under various Mach numbers were obtained.The velocity field prediction model was trained using flow field datasets containing experimental Schlieren images and velocity field,and the mapping relationship between the experimental Schlieren images and the predicted velocity field was successfully established. 展开更多

Spatiotemporal variation of velocity is impor- tant for debris flow dynamics. This paper presents a new method, the trace projection transformation, for accurate, non-contact measurement of a debris-flow surface velocity field based on a combination of dense optical flow and perspective projection transformation. The algorithm for interpreting and processing is implemented in C ++ and realized in Visual Studio 2012. The method allows quantitative analysis of flow motion through videos from various angles (camera positioned at the opposite direction of fluid motion). It yields the spatiotemporal distribution of surface velocity field at pixel level and thus provides a quantitative description of the surface processes. The trace projection transformation is superior to conventional measurement methods in that it obtains the full surface velocity field by computing the optical flow of all pixels. The result achieves a 90% accuracy of when comparing with the observed values. As a case study, the method is applied to the quantitative analysis of surface velocity field of a specific debris flow. 展开更多

In order to analyze the hot tandem roiling force, a new logarithmic velocity field is proposed. Using the field and linear EA (equal area) yield criterion, the plastic deformation power for plate rolling is analyzed, and the friction power is obtained based on the co-line vector inner product method. Then analytical solution of plate rolling power functional is obtained. Finally, by minimizing the power functional, the rolling torce and torque are received. Compared with those measured ones in hot tandem rolling on-line, the calculated rolling forces are in good agreement with the actual measured ones since the maximum error is less than 12~. Moreover, the effects of various rolling conditions such as thickness reduction, friction factor and shape factor, upon separating force, location of neutral an- gle, and stress state coefficient are discussed systematically. 展开更多

Impact of the Vertical Velocity Field on Charging Processes and Charge Separation in a Simulated Thunderstorm 被引量:6

A three-dimensional(3D) charging-discharging cloud resolution model was used to investigate the impact of the vertical velocity field on the charging processes and the formation of charge structure in a strong thunderstorm. The distribution and evolution of ice particle content and charges on ice particles were analyzed in different vertical velocity fields. The results show that the ice particles in the vertical velocity range from 1 to 5 m s-1obtained the most charge through charging processes during the lifetime of the thunderstorm. The magnitude of the charges could reach 1014 n C. Before the beginning of lightning activity,the charges produced in updraft region 2(updraft speed 13 m s-1) and updraft region 1(updraft speed between 5 and 13 m s-1) were relatively significant. The magnitudes of charge reached 1013 n C, which clearly impacted upon the early lightning activity. The vertical velocity conditions in the quasi-steady region(updraft speed between -1 and 1 m s-1) were the most conducive for charge separation on ice particles on different scales. Accordingly, a net charge structure always appeared in the quasi-steady and adjacent regions. Based on the results, a conceptual model of ice particle charging, charge separation, and charge structure formation in the flow field was constructed. The model helps to explain observations of the"lightning hole" phenomenon. 展开更多

The weighted velocity field was simplified for analysis of hot strip rolling. Using the field and GM (geometric midline) yield criterion, the deformation power, friction power and shear power were obtained respectively. Summing the partial power contributions, the total deformation power for strip rolling was presented. Then, by minimizing the power function, the rolling force was obtained; meanwhile, considering the effect of roll elastic flattening, iterative calculation of the roll radius was carried out until the radius was convergent. On line data were corn pared with the calculated results to verify the model accuracy. It was indicated that the calculated rolling forces were basically in agreement with the measured ones since the maximum error was less than 10.0%. Moreover, the effects of various rolling conditions such as thickness reduction, friction factor and shape factor, upon separating force, location of neutral angle, and stress state coefficient were discussed systematically. 展开更多

The formation of a cutting bed in an annulus involves safety problems in drilling especially in the horizontal well and the directional well. In this work, three axial laminar velocity field calculation models for the power-law fluid in an annulus are modified by considering the effect of the cutting bed. The proposed models are employed to numerically simulate the annulus flow with the cutting bed. Verified by the experimental data in literature, all of them can be applied to the situation of the annulus flow with the cutting bed. The modified concentric annulus model enjoys the best performance, while the flat channel flow model has the worst performance. 展开更多

The flow field velocity distribution in bo... Laboratory experiments have been conducted to study the flow field in a cyclone static micro-bubble flotation column. The method of Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) was used. The flow field velocity distribution in both cross section and longitudinal section within cyclonic zone was studied for different circulating volumes. The cross sectional vortex was also analyzed. The results show that in cross section as the circulating volume increases from 0.187 to 0.350 m 3 /h, the flow velocity ranges from 0 to 0.68 m/s. The flow field is mainly a non-vortex potential flow that forms a free vortex without outside energy input. In the cyclonic region the vortex deviates from the center of the flotation column because a single tangential opening introduces circulating fluid into the column. The tangential component of the velocity plays a defining role in the cross section. In the longitudinal section the velocity ranges from 0 to 0.08 m/s. The flow velocity increases as does the circulating volume. Advantageous mineral separation conditions arise from the combined effects of cyclonic flow in cross and longitudinal section. 展开更多

At present,the measurement of the near wave field of ships mostly relies on shipborne radar.The commonly used shipborne radar is incoherent and cannot obtain information on wave surface velocity.Therefore,the mathematical model of wave reconstruction is remarkably complex.As a new type of radar,coherent radar can obtain the radial velocity of the wave surface.Most wave surface reconstruction methods that use wave velocity are currently based on velocity potential.The difficulty of these methods lies in determining the initial value of the velocity integral.This paper proposes a wave surface reconstruction method based on an artificial boundary matrix.Numerical simulation data of regular and short-crest waves are used to verify the accuracy of this method.Simultaneously,the reconstruction stability under different wave velocity measurement errors is analyzed.The calculation results show that the proposed method can effectively realize the reconstruction of wave field. 展开更多

Based on the axial line velocity distribution, the flow after the disc can be divided into three regions, i.e., recirculation region, transitional region and self-similar region The characteristic of selfsimilarity of upright velocity was validated. The three regions can also be distinguished based on the axial velocity. The axial velocity in self-similar region was found to obey the same law and the formula presented by introducing the velocity expression used by Chen and Rodi. The isolines of pressure on cross-sections of different heights were displayed and the production, expansion, breaking and disappearing of negative pressure regions were found. 展开更多

A numerical model for the unsteady flow under a pulsed magnetic field of a solenoid is developed, in which magnetohydrodynamic flow equations decouple into a transient magnetic diffusion equation and unsteady Navier–Stokes equations in conjunction with two equations of the k–ε turbulent model. A Fourier series method is used to implement the boundary condition of magnetic flux density under multiple periods of a pulsed magnetic field (PMF). The numerical results are compared with the theoretical or experimental results to validate the model under a time-harmonic magnetic field; it is found that the toroidal vortex pair is the dominating structure within the melt flow under a PMF. The velocity field of a molten melt is in a quasi-steady state after several periods; changing the direction of the electromagnetic force causes the vibration of the melt surface under a PMF. 展开更多

The optimization of velocity field is the core issue in reservoir seismic pressure prediction. For a long time, the seismic processing velocity analysis method has been used in the establishment of pressure prediction velocity field, which has a long research period and low resolution and restricts the accuracy of seismic pressure prediction;This paper proposed for the first time the use of machine learning algorithms, based on the feasibility analysis of wellbore logging pressure prediction, to integrate the CVI velocity inversion field, velocity sensitive post stack attribute field, and AVO P-wave and S-wave velocity reflectivity to obtain high-precision seismic P and S wave velocities. On this basis, high-resolution formation pore pressure and other parameters prediction based on multi waves is carried out. The pressure prediction accuracy is improved by more than 50% compared to the P-wave resolution of pore pressure prediction using only root mean square velocity. Practice has proven that the research method has certain reference significance for reservoir pore pressure prediction. 展开更多
