Fur...The design and realization of a videoconference system based on international recommendation are introduced in this paper, and the hardware implementation of video codec based on ITU-T H. 261 is briefly discussed. Furthermore, the buffer control method and the adaptive control strategy for quantization are proposed, which are adaptive and robust. This system can be operated under the transmission rate ranging from 128kb/s to 2Mb/s. With these strategies for the videoconference system, the high quality image is obtained. The time delay of the system is about half a second.展开更多

Materials and Methods: A videoconference...Purpose: To present our videoconference system with medical information desktop sharing for radiation therapy and report initial experience using the system and its usefulness. Materials and Methods: A videoconference system for radiation therapy enables radiation oncologists sent to affiliated hospitals to consult a more experienced board-certified doctor at our institution while sharing the same display showing a patient’s information, radiology information system (RIS), and radiation therapy planning (RTP) system. We evaluated cases discussed in videoconferences to determine the influence of the system on treatment policies and radiation therapy plans. Results: From December 2012 to March 2013, treatment policies for 56 cases and radiation therapy plans for 50 cases were discussed in videoconferences. As for treatment policies, no change was made in treatment policy for 33 cases (59%), and minor and major changes were made for 16 (29%) cases and 7 (12%) cases, respectively. Radiation therapy plans for 50 cases were checked. No change was needed for 32 cases (64%), and minor and major changes were needed for 17 (34%) cases and 1 (2%) case, respectively. Conclusion: The videoconference system can be effective for improving the quality of radiation therapy.展开更多

The author is a representative from one o...The United States Department of State funded a project focused on civic engagement. The participants were students and faculty at five universities in Pakistan and in the USA. The author is a representative from one of the USA-based universities. In a fortnightly high-definition videoconference dialogue between students at University of Nebraska at Omaha and Quaid-i-Azam University in Islamabad, the goals of deepening understanding, challenging stereotypes and inspiring community change are being met. This paper will present the preliminary results of an ongoing assessment of how this project has resulted in meeting these goals and suggest what can be done in future projects that will better meet the goals. This will add to the emerging literature on civic engagement and conflict resolution by exploring use of cutting edge technology to build trust and understanding across the world's divide.展开更多
