Numerical simulations on focused wave propagation are carried out by using three types of numerical models, including the linear potential flow, the nonlinear potential flow and the viscous fluid flow models. The wave-wave interaction of the focused wave group with different frequency bands and input wave amplitudes is examined,by which the influence of free surface nonlinearity and fluid viscosity on the related phenomenon of focused wave is investigated. The significant influence of free surface nonlinearity on the characteristics of focused wave can be observed, including the increased focused wave crest, delayed focused time and downstream shift of focused position with the increase of input amplitude. It can plot the evident difference between the results of the nonlinear potential flow and linear potential flow models. However, only a little discrepancy between the nonlinear potential flow and viscous fluid flow models can be observed, implying the insignificant effect of fluid viscosity on focused wave behavior. Therefore, the nonlinear potential flow model is recommended for simulating the non-breaking focused wave problem in this study. 展开更多

This paper treats the numerical calculation of a steady two-dimensional viscous flow past a flexible membrane. Both edges of the membrane are fixed in the flow and its chord is set normal to the flow. The numerical calculations of the Navier-Stokes equation based on a finite difference method and a relaxation method are carried out for several values of the membrane tension in cases when the Reynolds numbers are 5, 10 and 20. It is found that the membrane tension has a minimum value below which there is no steady shape of the membrane. Two different shapes of the membrane are possible at a given value of tension: the one is of small deformation, while the other a large deformation. There appear twin vortices in the concave region of the membrane shape if its deformation increases to a certain extent. 展开更多

Numerical solution is presented for the two- dimensional flow of a micropolar fluid between two porous coaxial disks of different permeability for a range of Reynolds number Re (-300≤ Re 〈 0) and permeability parameter A (1.0≤A ≤2.0). The main flow is superimposed by the injection at the surfaces of the two disks. Von Karman's similarity transformations are used to reduce the governing equations of motion to a set of non-linear coupled ordinary differential equations (ODEs) in dimensionless form. An algorithm based on the finite difference method is employed to solve these ODEs and Richardson's extrapolation is used to obtain higher order accuracy. The results indicate that the parameters Re and A have a strong influence on the velocity and microrotation profiles, shear stresses at the disks and the position of the viscous/shear layer. The micropolar material constants cl, c2, c3 have profound effect on microrotation as compared to their effect on streamwise and axial velocity profiles. The results of micropolar fluids are compared with the results for Newtonian fluids. 展开更多

The vibration problem of a fluid conveying cylindrical shell consisted of newly developed multi-scale hybrid nanocomposites is solved in the present manuscript within the framework of an analytical solution. The consistent material is considered to be made from an initial matrix strengthened via both macro-and nano-scale reinforcements. The influence of nanofillers’agglomeration, generated due to the high surface to volume ratio in nanostructures,is included by implementing Eshelby-Mori-Tanaka homogenization scheme.Afterwards, the equivalent material properties of the carbon nanotube reinforced(CNTR)nanocomposite are coupled with those of CFs within the framework of a modified rule of mixture. On the other hand, the influences of viscous flow are covered by extending the Navier-Stokes equation for cylinders.A cylindrical coordinate system is chosen and mixed with the infinitesimal strains of first-order shear deformation theory of shells to obtain the motion equations on the basis of the dynamic form of principle of virtual work.Next, the achieved governing equations will be solved by Galerkin’s method to reach the natural frequency of the structure for both simply supported and clamped boundary conditions.Presenting a set of illustrations, effects of each parameter on the dimensionless frequency of nanocomposite shells will be shown graphically. 展开更多

A method that series perturbations approximate solutions to N-S equations with boundary conditions was discussed and adopted. Then the method was proved in which the asymptotic solutions of viscous fluid flow past a sphere were deducted. By the ameliorative asymptotic expansion matched method, the matched functions, are determined easily and the ameliorative curve of drag coefficient is coincident well with measured data in the case that Reynolds number is less than or equal to 40 000. 展开更多

This paper presents a numerical investigation of ship manoeuvring under the combined effect of bank and propeller. The incompressible turbulent flow with free surface around the self-propelled hull form is simulated using a commercial CFD software (ANSYS-FLUENT). In order to estimate the influence of the bank-propeller effect on the hydrodynamic forces acting on the ship, volume forces representing the propeller are added to Navier-Stokes equations. The numerical simulations are carried out using the equivalent of experiment conditions. The validation of the CFD model is performed by comparing the numerical results to the availa- ble experimental data. For this investigation, the impact of Ship-Bank distance and ship speed on the bank effect are tested with and without propeller. An additional parameter concerning the advance ratio of the propeller is also tested. 展开更多
