Therapeutic Communication Methods Targeting Families and Family Members: A Literature Review

Background and Purpose: Therapeutic communication is a new term in family health care nursing, defined by Hohashi (2019) as a method of family intervention, and characterized by inclusion of not only verbal conversation but also nonverbal interaction. However, specific therapeutic communication methods have not been systematized. The purpose of this study was to clarify therapeutic communication methods for families/family members from the perspectives of verbal communication and non-verbal communication through a review of existing literature. Methods: We conducted a search using the medical literature databases PubMed and Ichushi-Web using the keywords “therapeutic communication”. Analysis was performed on seven articles from PubMed and 14 articles from Ichushi-Web that described therapeutic communication methods performed by healthcare professionals for families/family members. Through directed content analysis, therapeutic communication methods were subcategorized, and classified into three categories: verbal communication, non-verbal communication, and verbal/non-verbal communication. Results: A total of 23 subcategories were extracted. Verbal communication included 11 subcategories, such as “asking questions using the communicatee’s words as they are”. Non-verbal communication included five subcategories, such as “noticing changes in the content of the communicatee’s story”. And verbal/non-verbal communication featured seven subcategories, such as “making the communicatee aware of one’s own beliefs”. Conclusion: Therapeutic communication methods included basic care/caring in family interviews/meetings, as well as verbal communication and non-verbal communication that act on family/family members’ beliefs. It is believed that changes in family/family members’ beliefs can be used to eliminate, reduce, or improve problematic conditions in the family. .

Training Low-Achiever EFL Learners with Metacognitive Strategy Training for Effective Vocabulary Retention

There is ample research on the vocabulary learning strategies used by EFL and ESL learners.Moreover,many researchers have attempted to discern the effectiveness of teaching vocabulary learning strategies instruction.However,the impact of using metacognitive strategies along with vocabulary learning strategies on weak language learners has not been researched.The aim of this paper is to report on the effects of training low-achiever English as a foreign language learners with vocabulary learning strategies along with metacognitive strategies on vocabulary acquisition.Two B1 level groups of students were assigned as treatment and control groups at a university in Istanbul,Turkey.A Vocabulary Strategy Use Survey was given to identify the vocabulary strategy use of the subjects at the outset of the study.The treatment group was trained on vocabulary learning strategies combined with metacognitive strategy training.The control group studied the same words without any training.A vocabulary test was administered to both groups as a post-test and the results were compared.The findings of the Post-Test demonstrated that training weak language learners with vocabulary learning strategies along with metacognitive strategies has a positive impact on helping these learners increase their lexical knowledge,as the experimental group scored higher on the post-test compared to the control group.

Literature Review on Support for Children and Families Experiencing Parental Bereavement

Purpose: This study aimed to understand the actual nursing support in a wide perspective by reviewing overseas literature on support for children who have experienced parental bereavement and their families. The goal was to identify future challenges in nursing support in clinical practice in Japan. Method: Literature searchable as of May 2023 was retrieved using PubMed, resulting in 11 relevant articles. Result: The results revealed the following: 1) For support provided to children, 13 codes were condensed into 5 subcategories and 4 categories. 2) For support provided to families, 36 codes were condensed into 11 subcategories and 4 categories. Conclusion: Open communication was found to be essential for supporting children and their families who have experienced parental bereavement. Moreover, involvement of multiple professions facilitated the provision of specialized support to address diverse needs of children and families, playing a crucial role in overcoming grief. Additionally, the effectiveness of support systems for bereaved families highlighted the need for nursing professionals in Japan to gain knowledge through learning opportunities and to establish a multi-disciplinary approach to support, thus indicating future challenges in nursing support.

通用学术词表Academic Vocabulary List(AVL)修订述略

学术英语词汇是学术英语教学的重点和难点,不同时代和学科曾编写过各类学术词表。加德纳和戴维斯(2014)基于学术语料容量达1.2亿的COCA语料库推出学术词表Academic Vocabulary List(AVL),该词表在学术英语教学和研究中得到广泛应用。然而实践表明,AVL词表收录的3015个词元存在词汇重复、以词元为单位排列的词表和以词族为单位排列的词表不相吻合等问题。本研究尝试以科学性原则、适切性原则、时效性原则为指导,基于AVL词表原有的比率、分布、离散度、学科指数四条选词标准,增加最低频次和经验判断两条新标准对AVL词表予以完善和修订。完善修订后的AVL词表由先前的1991个词族、3015个词元缩减至709个词族1715个词元,较修订前更具简洁性和高效性。希望依据3项原则和6项标准所做的修订为学术英语教与学以及学术英语教材编写和选用带来新的参考。

A Study of the Use and Translation of Archaic Functional Vocabulary in the Berne Convention

The archaic functional vocabulary is highly with the legal features of formality and conservativeness and still holding a place in legal English.The Berne Convention is a good example to study the use and translation of the archaic functional vocabulary.By studying what archaic functional words or phrases are used in the Berne Convention,their meanings and the different use frequencies of them between the Berne Convention and the Copy Right Law of PRC,it has been found that arhcaic adverbs are used of low frequency,while some adjectives or adjectival groups as well as some prepositions or prepositional phrases are used of high frequencies.The use frequencies of the archaic functional vocabulary is higher in the Berne Convention than those in the Copy Right law of PRC.Some suggestions can be put forward to help improve translating Chinese legal documents into English or writing English legal documents.

Relations Between School and Immigrant Families in Albertan Francophone School: Perspectives of Settlement Workers in Schools - A Secondary Publication

In recent years,Francophone schools in Alberta,a province in western Canada,have seen significant ethnocultural diversification of their school population,thus reflecting recent migratory changes in Canada.The population of a Francophone school board located in an agglomeration of Alberta reflects these new migratory trends.A partial ethnodemographic portrait carried out in 2003 in six of its schools indicates that 50%of the pupils come from an immigrant background and come from 23 different countries;mostly from sub-Saharan African countries.This demographic reality,confirmed more than a decade later,represents a major structural change for Francophone schools.In Alberta,as in other Canadian provinces,inclusion is at the heart of discourse and educational practices.With a transformative aim,it intends to promote ethnocultural diversity in the classroom and equal opportunities through school equity practices.This article focuses on the settlement workers in schools responsible for bridging family,community,and school cultures.The analysis of the interviews of the four workers sheds light on and questions both the institutional practices and the personal strategies put in place to face the challenges encountered in this tripartite collaboration.

A Quasi-Experimental Study of English Vocabulary Teaching Based on Incidental Acquisition

Recent years have witnessed a phenomenon that major English teachers in China have adopted the traditional teaching pattern, mechanically linking English pronunciations directly with the meaning of Chinese, which gradually dampens learners’ enthusiasm. The chief purpose of this paper was to design one English vocabulary teaching lesson based on incidental acquisition. More specifically, the questions raised are, on the one hand, whether incidental vocabulary teaching imprints differences on the learning outcomes for middle school students, and, on the other hand, whether incidental acquisition results in positive feedback between teachers and students. The technique we applied was referred to as questionnaires and interviews addressed to a sample of 68 students. Focusing on the effect of incidental vocabulary acquisition, the analysis demonstrated that it could enhance students’ vocabulary capacity. In addition, it was interesting to note that excellent students and average students tended to embrace the new teaching style while underachievers were on the opposite side. On this basis, it is recommended for English teachers to design English vocabulary lessons, adopting visual, auditory, oral, reading or writing training. More precisely, they should use phonics rules and patterns, holistic learning, classified vocabulary teaching, visual illustration or multimedia teaching to give lessons effectively and expand learners’ vocabulary.

Study on the variation in and selection of Fraxinus mandshurica provenances and families in northeast China

Fraxinus mandshurica Rupr.is one of the main afforestation species in northeast China,and there is great demand for improved F.mandshurica varieties.The results of an investigation into and analysis of the growth traits of F.mandshurica provenances and families showed that there were significant differences in different periods.However,variations in growth traits decreased year by year.There was a significant negative correlation between tree heights of the provenances and sunshine hours in their areas of origin.The provenances of Xinglong,Hailin and Wuchang were selected based on the volume of 18-year-old trees.The average genetic gain from the selection of fast-growing provenances was 19.4%.Ten superior fast-growing families were selected.The average volume of the selected families was22.6%,higher than that of all families.The correlation coefficient between heights at 6-year-old and at 18a was 0.838for provenances,and between heights at 4-year-old and at 18-year-old was 0.303 for families.These results indicate that early selection for height in provenances or families could be performed at 6 years or 4 years,respectively.Early selection for DBH and volume in families could start at 8 years.

The Effectiveness of Explicit Vocabulary Instruction on Productive Vocabulary Learning in Writing Among Intermediate School Learners in Saudi Arabia

This study aimed to identify the effectiveness of explicit vocabulary instruction on productive vocabulary learning in writing among intermediate school learners in Saudi Arabia,verify the existence of any statistically significant differences at the significance level of 0.01 between the mean scores of the post-test of the control group and the experimental group in the vocabulary test,and verify the existence of any statistically significant differences at the significance level of 0.01 between the mean scores of the pre-and post-test of the experimental group in the vocabulary test in favor of the post-test.The study community consisted of all intermediate school students in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia,while the study sample included 30 students.The experimental method was adopted to identify the effectiveness of explicit vocabulary instruction on productive vocabulary learning in writing and the achievement test was used as the study tool.The study reached many results including there were no statistically significant differences at the significance level of 0.01 between the mean scores of the post-test of the control group and the experimental group in the vocabulary test and there were no statistically significant differences at the significance level of 0.01 between the mean scores of the pre-and post-test of the experimental group in the vocabulary test in favor of the post-test.According to these results,some recommendations and proposals were made including training English teachers at the intermediate school level in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia,on explicit vocabulary instruction and conducting future researches on the trends of English teachers at the intermediate school level,in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia,regarding the adoption of explicit vocabulary instruction while teaching the English language.

Minimal Doubly Resolving Sets of Certain Families of Toeplitz Graph

The doubly resolving sets are a natural tool to identify where diffusion occurs in a complicated network.Many realworld phenomena,such as rumour spreading on social networks,the spread of infectious diseases,and the spread of the virus on the internet,may be modelled using information diffusion in networks.It is obviously impractical to monitor every node due to cost and overhead limits because there are too many nodes in the network,some of which may be unable or unwilling to send information about their state.As a result,the source localization problem is to find the number of nodes in the network that best explains the observed diffusion.This problem can be successfully solved by using its relationship with the well-studied related minimal doubly resolving set problem,which minimizes the number of observers required for accurate detection.This paper aims to investigate the minimal doubly resolving set for certain families of Toeplitz graph Tn(1,t),for t≥2 and n≥t+2.We come to the conclusion that for Tn(1,2),the metric and double metric dimensions are equal and for Tn(1,4),the double metric dimension is exactly one more than the metric dimension.Also,the double metric dimension for Tn(1,3)is equal to the metric dimension for n=5,6,7 and one greater than the metric dimension for n≥8.

Research on Vocabulary Learning in English Classroom Teaching Based on Corpus

The difficulty of learning English is not only related to interest,but also related to the correctness of learning methods.Especially in English teaching,a comprehensive and in-depth mastery of vocabulary can improve the level of English language,learn English knowledge better,and improve the level of cross-cultural communication.The application of corpus in English classroom vocabulary teaching can provide more educational space for vocabulary teaching,enrich teaching methods,and at the same time,facilitate students to learn vocabulary and lay a foundation for learning English language.To this end,this article first describes the important role of corpus application in vocabulary learning in English classroom teaching.Secondly,it discusses the difficulties of vocabulary learning and the factors that affect the quality of learning.Finally,in order to enhance the learning effect of students and improve the teaching level,several learning strategies have been formulated to continuously highlight the practicality of the corpus.

Ecological Classroom Model for Vocabulary Teaching Based on Markov Chain

This paper explores the current English vocabulary teaching classroom based on an eco-linguistic perspective and the Markov chain,points out the ecological imbalance in the English vocabulary classroom,and proposes measures to solve the problem and strategies to build an ecological English vocabulary learning classroom,in order to provide some reference for future English vocabulary curriculum reform and curriculum design.In this paper,a random sample of 20 students from each class was taken from an advanced arts class and an advanced science class.The results show that after a semester of teaching process,the overall English scores of the arts and science classes improved,and since,the arts classes improved more and the teachers’teaching quality was better.

English Translation of Chinese Traditional Cultural Vocabulary Under the Context of Cultural Dissemination

The influence of Chinese culture in English-speaking countries is still not as significant as that of Japan and other East Asian countries.Therefore,it is necessary to explore the English translation of vocabulary with Chinese elements.Based on the main purpose of cultural dissemination,this article briefly classifies vocabulary with Chinese elements,explores translation strategies for Chinese traditional cultural vocabulary,and summarizes the actual cultural propaganda effects.The article also provides insights and suggestions for subsequent strategy applications.

A Study on Second Language Vocabulary Acquisition Under the Categorization Theory

In cognitive linguistics,debates on the status and functions of categorization have been a heated issue.In semantics and second language acquisition,scholars have discussed and achieved vocabulary acquisition from different perspectives and academic levels.Vocabulary learning exerts a fundamental role in second language vocabulary acquisition(SLVA),and it is closely related to learners’cognitive competence.However,studies on second language vocabulary acquisition under the categorization theory in cognitive linguistics have received less attention from linguists when compared with other studies.This paper employs two representative dimensions,the basic-level effect and the prototype effect,under the categorization theory to further delve into the implications on second language vocabulary acquisition.This article first provides a comprehensive introduction to the nature and the approaches of the categorization theory,and then analyzes the relations and implications for second language vocabulary acquisition under the categorization theory from the perspective of the basic-level and the prototype effects.The research results showed that the basic-level effect on SLVA is mainly on the classification of word categories distinguished from the superordinate and subordinate categories,while the prototype effect is more on understanding the complexity and use of word meaning.

Unveiling the Pedagogical Potency of Quizlet:Enhancing Vocabulary Acquisition and Academic Performance Among Business English Major Students in China

The effectiveness of Quizlet,an online vocabulary learning tool,in enhancing vocabulary acquisition and academic performance among Business English major students in China was investigated in this study.With emphasis on the importance of vocabulary proficiency for English learners,especially those in English-related majors,this research aimed to understand the impact of Quizlet on vocabulary mastery and its connection to overall academic success.A one-academic-year longitudinal experiment was carried out involving two classes,utilizing quantitative methods for assessing vocabulary retention and academic progress.Improvement was seen in the final exam rankings and vocabulary retention rates in Quizlet-engaged classes.Hopefully,this study could provide valuable insights for educators,curriculum designers,and researchers,guiding the optimization of language acquisition strategies in the digital age.

北京“新三代家庭”育儿模式下的儿童友好型城市规划策略

回溯儿童友好城市的理念起源,借鉴家庭社会学对于当代抚育结构的经典研究见解,认识到建设儿童友好城市不能仅关注儿童个体,而必须以家庭为完整单元,映射到由全龄人群组成的社会生态系统深部。通过面向北京育儿家庭进行大样本问卷调查,提炼当前北京育儿家庭成员之间亲职分配的主流模式,认识到由代际协作育儿纽带联结的“新三代家庭”已经构成了当前北京最典型的家庭育儿模式。这一认知有助于定位超大城市儿童友好政策输出的侧重领域,避免儿童友好城市创建走向千城一面。通过深入挖掘这一典型模式下“双职工中青年”“银发育儿族”“多孩家庭子女”等人群需求,提出6点促进儿童与家人共享城市服务的策略。

我国小农户与家庭农场生产率的比较分析——基于中国乡村振兴综合调查数据的经验研究

本文利用2020年中国乡村振兴综合调查数据,对小农户和家庭农场的农业生产率与经营规模的关系开展了比较研究。研究发现,中国小农户粮食生产中存在土地生产率与经营规模之间的反向关系,但这种反向关系对于家庭农场并不显著;小农户粮食生产中基本不存在劳动生产率与播种面积之间的正向关系,但这种正向关系对家庭农场却比较显著;绝大部分小农户处于规模报酬递增和成本利润率上升的阶段,难以达到或接近规模报酬和成本利润率不变的阶段,相比之下,已有相对较多的家庭农场达到或接近规模报酬和成本利润率不变的阶段。总的来说,家庭农场在土地生产率、劳动生产率、成本利润率上较小农户都拥有较为明显的优势。无论是保障和扩大粮食供给、增加农民收入还是提高农业经营效益,发展家庭农场都是较优选择。

多元家庭参与计划在乳腺癌乳房重建术患者院外延续性护理中的应用

目的:观察多元家庭参与计划在乳房重建术患者院外延续性护理中的应用效果。方法:以2020年9月笔者医院实施基于多元家庭参与计划的院外延续性护理干预模式为分界线,将2019年2月-2020年8月实施常规院外延续性护理的40例乳房重建术患者纳入对照组,将2020年9月-2022年3月实施基于多元家庭参与计划院外延续性护理的40例乳房重建术患者纳入观察组,比较两组患者干预前后认知偏差、体象、希望水平、生活质量及美学效果满意度。结果:干预后,两组认知偏差评分(对生命质量的影响、对他人评价、感知到的认知障碍及认知能力)均较干预前降低(P<0.05),且观察组各维度评分均低于对照组(P<0.05);干预后,两组体象评分(身体羞耻、疾病易感、身体关注、功能受限、患臂关注及透视)均较干预前降低(P<0.05),且观察组各维度评分均低于对照组(P<0.05);干预后,两组希望水平评分(未来和现实的积极态度、与他人保持亲密关系、采取积极行动)均较干预前升高(P<0.05),且观察组各维度评分均高于对照组(P<0.05);干预后,两组生活质量评分(心理状态、身体状态、性健康、假体满意度、乳房满意度、手术及信息满意度、医疗团队满意度)均较干预前升高(P<0.05),且观察组各维度评分均高于对照组(P<0.05);两组美学效果总满意率比较差异无统计学意义(P>0.05),但观察组满意率高于对照组(P<0.05)。结论:在乳房重建术患者院外延续性护理中应用多元家庭参与计划,能够有效改善患者心理状态,提高患者生活质量,值得临床推广。

中国性别失衡转变与家庭发展:基于人口普查与公开数据的发现

中国出生性别比失衡已经持续40余年,性别失衡后果和风险正在由个体扩散至家庭层面,对家庭发展产生深远影响,但现有研究缺乏基于宏观数据对二者变化态势的基本认识。使用2000—2020年全国人口普查和统计年鉴等公开数据,基于人口和家庭转型背景,从家庭结构-功能构建家庭发展指数,实证分析最近20年性别失衡转变和家庭发展的时空变化情况,探讨性别失衡转变和家庭发展的关系。研究发现,中国性别失衡正在进入出生性别比持续下降、后果开始显现的转变阶段,省际因人口、经济、社会等发展差异呈现不同阶段特征;中国家庭发展整体水平较低,当面临性别失衡转变时,存在结构功能发展不协调、地区间发展不平衡和总体发展不充分的问题。建议继续加强引导出生性别比回归正常以减少各年龄段性别结构失衡累积,积极探索面向家庭的性别失衡后果治理,充分考虑家庭发展的地区差异和所处阶段,兼顾家庭结构和功能协调发展,促进人口长期均衡与可持续发展。
