We measure the half-wave voltage of LiNbO3 phase modulators in a 26-GHz wideband frequency range, and then analyze it by the phase modulation photonic peak gain linked to the interferometric demodu- lation. The optical interferometer is constructed with two 50:50 couplers and two fiber arms with a l-m difference in fiber length. The photonic link gain peaks are frequency dependent, as indicated by the differential time delay in the interferometer. The procedure described is a new and practical half-wave voltage measurement method that can accurately predict the nonlinear frequency characteristics of the phase modulator. Moreover, the method can be applied to various types of LiNbO3 phase modulators. 展开更多

The current voltage (IV) characteristics are greatly influenced by the dispersion effects in A1GaN/CaN high electron mobility transistors. The direct current (DC) IV and pulsed IV measurements are performed to give a deep investigation into the dispersion effects, which are mainly related to the trap and self-heating mechanisms. The results show that traps play an important role in the kink effects, and high stress can introduce more traps and defects in the device. With the help of the pulsed IV measurements, the trapping effects and self-heating effects can be separated. The impact of time constants on the dispersion effects is also discussed. In order to achieve an accurate static DC IV measurement, the steady state of the bias points must be considered carefully to avoid the dispersion effects. 展开更多

We investigate the effects of (N,N’-diphenyl)-N,N’-bis(1-naphthyl)-1,1’-biphenyl-4,4’-diamine (NPB) buffer layers on charge collection in inverted ZnO/MEH-PPV hybrid devices. The insertion of a 3-nm NPB thin layer enhances the efficiency of charge collection by improving charge transport and reducing the interface energy barrier, resulting in better device performances. S-shaped light J–V curve appears when the thickness of the NPB layer reaches 25 nm, which is induced by the inefficient charge extraction from MEH-PPV to Ag. Capacitance–voltage measurements are performed to further investigate the influence of the NPB layer on charge collection from both simulations and experiments. 展开更多

The growing integration of distributed energy resources(DERs)in distribution grids raises various reliability issues due to DER's uncertain and complex behaviors. With large-scale DER penetration in distribution grids, traditional outage detection methods, which rely on customers report and smart meters'“last gasp”signals, will have poor performance, because renewable generators and storage and the mesh structure in urban distribution grids can continue supplying power after line outages. To address these challenges,we propose a datadriven outage monitoring approach based on the stochastic time series analysis with a theoretical guarantee.Specifically,we prove via power flow analysis that dependency of time-series voltage measurements exhibits significant statistical changes after line outages. This makes the theory on optimal change-point detection suitable to identify line outages. However, existing change point detection methods require post-outage voltage distribution, which are unknown in distribution systems. Therefore,we design a maximum likelihood estimator to directly learn distribution parameters from voltage data.We prove the estimated parameters-based detection also achieves optimal performance, making it extremely useful for fast distribution grid outage identifications.Furthermore, since smart meters have been widely installed in distribution grids and advanced infrastructure(e.g,PMU)has not widely been available, our approach only requires voltage magnitude for quick outage identification.Simulation results show highly accurate outage identification in eight distribution grids with 17 configurations with and without DERs using smart meter data. 展开更多
