A walkable urban built environment with convenient facilities is the key to improve the living quality of urban residents and build a livable city in the new era.Taking each urban housing estate as the center and based on walking accessibility, the walking circle of housing estates was constructed.Taking the six functional systems of convenient shopping, catering service,fi nancial service, scientifi c research and education, leisure and entertainment, and medical service as evaluation factors, and considering the actual frequency of residents’use of various public service facilities and the reduction of walking, the convenience evaluation system of public service facilities was established.Taking the urban built environment within the Second Ring Road of Shijiazhuang City,Hebei Province as an example,it is found that the convenience of public service facilities in the walking circle of housing estates within the Second Ring Road presented a circular layer distribution of“low outside and high inside”.This study will provide the reference for urban renewal and renovation and improvement of facilities. 展开更多

In the metropolises of China, the metro plays an increasingly important role in commuting because of its efficiency, affordability, and cleanliness. This paper attempts to explore the relationship between walking access distance to metro stations and the demographic characteristics of passengers, such as age, monthly income, travel frequency, gender, and travel purpose, as well as the influence of the urban context. Nanjing Metro Line 2 is selected as the case study. By using different methods such as a questionnaire survey, spatial decay function, analysis of covariance(ANOVA), network analysis of routes, and K-means cluster analysis, it is suggested that demographic characteristics have a significant impact on the pedestrian walking distance, with the exception of gender. Furthermore, the paper finds a spatial decay effect in walking access distance, the decay rate of which, however, varies across stations. Terminal stations have a larger pedestrian catchment area than in regular and exchange stations. Moreover, the passengers of Nanjing Metro Line 2 can be classified into six groups according to their demographic characteristics, among which education and occupation are vital indicators in determining their willingness to walk to the stations. Middle-class passengers have a higher dependence on the metro and tend to walk longer than other groups do. This study provides an important reference for planners and transport sectors to optimize land-use and transport infrastructures. 展开更多

The discrete choice model is used to estimate the walking access area of rail transit stations while considering the influence of existing competition from other traffic modes. The acceptable walking access area is determined according to the willingness of passengers to walk who prefer rail transit compared with bus and automobile. Empirical studies were conducted using the survey data of six stations from the rail transit in Nanjing, China. The results indicate that the rail transit is more preferable compared with bus and private automobile in this case when excluding the influence of individual and environmental factors. It is found that passengers tend to underestimate their willingness to walk. The acceptable walking access area of every rail transit station is different from each other. Suburban stations generally have a larger walking access area than downtown stations. In addition, a better walking environment and a scarcer surrounding traffic environment can also lead to a larger walking area. The model was confirmed to be effective and reasonable according to the model validation. This study can be of benefit to the passenger transportation demand estimation in the location planning and evaluation of rail transit stations. 展开更多

Urban planning often faces issues of spatial separation between blue and green spaces,as well as the lack of integration in slow traffic networks. The development and shaping of urban slow, blue, and green spaces often proceed along separate paths. However, building an ecological and livable city requires the integrated development of slow, blue, and green spaces.Taking the central urban area of Wuhan as a case study, this research uses ArcGIS visualization, walking accessibility analysis, and landscape pattern index analysis methods.By overlapping slow traffic spaces with blue and green spaces, the study explores the distribution of slow, blue, and green spaces and the integration characteristics of slow+blue-green spaces, categorizing them based on walking time and spatial aggregation. The results show:1)In the central urban area of Wuhan, blue spaces are predominant in the Yangtze River basin, the Han River-Sha Lake-East Lake-South Lake,Yangchun Lake-East Lake-South Lake-Yezhi Lake, and Longyang Lake-Moshui Lake directions, with clear dominant patches, while other areas show average performance;2)Green spaces have good patch dominance and connectivity along the Qingshan Park-East Lake Greenway-Moshan-Ma anshan Forest Park;3)The integration of blue and green spaces is best along the Yangtze River,East Lake, and South Lake;4)Areas such as Sha Lake Park in Wuchang District,East Lake Scenic Area in Hongshan District, the South Lake-Yezhi Lake corridor,Moshui Lake and Longyang Lake in Hanyang District, and the northern and southern parts of the Yangtze River are characterized by better integration of slow blue-green spaces.Through the overlay analysis of walking accessibility and landscape pattern indices of blue-green spaces, the study significantly reflects the integration characteristics of slow blue-green spaces in Wuhan s central urban area. This research aims to provide references for the planning and design of urban slow blue-green spaces and the construction of livable and ecological cities, offering practical guidance for creating a healthy urban ecological living environment and for urban ecosystem restoration and management. 展开更多
