As a result, the current solutions can capture the size effect at the micron scale. Numerical results show that the smaller the inner radius of the cylinder or spherical shell, the more significant the scale effects. Results also show that the size effect is more evident with increasing strain or strain-rate sensitivity index. The classical plastic-based solutions of the same problems are shown to be a special case of the present solution.展开更多

An analytical solution of the burst pressure for pipes with capped ends is derived, which includes the strength differential effect and takes the influence of strength criterion on the burst pressure into account. In addition, a USC- based analytical solution of the burst pressure for end-opened pipes under the internal pressure is obtained. By discussion, it is found that for the end-capped pipes, the influence of different yield criteria and the strength differential effect on the burst pressure are significant, while for the end-opened pipes, the burst pressure is independent of the specific form of the strength criterion and strength difference in tension and compression.展开更多

In order to better understand the evolution/yielding process of stress field,a 3 D finite-element thermo-mechanical model was established for the laser cladding formation of thin wall with the 17-4 PH powder on the FV520( B) steel. The temperature field was firstly analyzed, based on which the stress field and strain field of the laser cladding forming process were analyzed. In order to validate the prediction, the final residual stress field in the obtained thin wall was tested by X-ray diffraction in comparison with the predicted results.展开更多

Firstly, a point distribution model is used to obtain the feature points of the ventricular surface in medical images. Secondly, the surface model is constructed by triangular mesh, and then the subdivision strategy is introduced to refine the model. Thirdly, plane projection and finite element method(FEM) are applied to calculate the tangential stress and strain. Finally, the distribution of tangential modulus of elasticity is discussed. The stimulation results show that the proposed method can be used to compute the tangential stress and strain of myocardial wall effectively and the computing result is consistent with the results mentioned in the literatures.展开更多

The negative pressure instability problem of the venous wall is explained through energy comparison. First, the deformation equation of the venous wall under the combined loads is obtained with a thin-walled circular cylindrical tube. The deformation curves and the stress distributions for the venous wall are given under the normal transmural pressure, and the regulations are discussed. Then, the deformation curves of the venous wall under the negative transmural pressure or the internal pressure less than the external pressure are given. Finally, the negative pressure instability problem is discussed through energy comparison.展开更多
