In order to resolve these problems, a new technique of constructing walls using large size baked clay blocks is introduced. For this purpose, clay blocks of size 150 mm × 300 mm × 1980 mm were cast at a pressure of 6 MPa, and fired at a temperature of 700℃. In this paper, compressive strength and tensile strength of baked clay were investigated in order to find its suitability as a walling material for low cost houses. Cubes of 150 mm sides were tested in compression and the beams were tested in flexure. The results showed that compressive strength of baked clay cubes was found to be 10 MPa and tensile strength, in terms of modulus of rupture, was found to be 2.3 MPa. Since the baked clay blocks are larger in size than traditional bricks, it is inferred that the blocks could be used as a cheaper and stronger walling material.展开更多

However, the requirement for prior knowledge of the shear wave velocity in the pipeline material for popular ultrasonic thickness measurement limits its widespread application. This paper proposes a method that utilizes cylindrical shear horizontal(SH) guided waves to estimate pipeline thickness without prior knowledge of shear wave velocity. The inversion formulas are derived from the dispersion of higher-order modes with the high-frequency approximation. The waveform of the example problems is simulated using the real-axis integral method. The data points on the dispersion curves are processed in the frequency domain using the wave-number method. These extracted data are then substituted into the derived formulas. The results verify that employing higher-order SH guided waves for the evaluation of thickness and shear wave velocity yields less than1% error. This method can be applied to both metallic and non-metallic pipelines, thus opening new possibilities for health monitoring of pipeline structures.展开更多

This study considered long-term chronologies of tracheid measurements, indexed by a novel approach to separate their specific climatic responses from signal recorded in cell production(closely reflected in tree-ring width). To fill gaps in understanding the impact of climate on conifer xylem structure, Scots pine(Pinus sylvestris L.)trees > 200 years old were selected within the forest-steppe zone in southern Siberia. Such habitats undergo mild moisture deficits and the resulting climatic regulation of growth processes. Mean and maximum values of cell radial diameter and cell wall thickness were recorded for each tree ring.Despite a low level of climatogenic stress, components of cell chronologies independent of cambial activity were separated to obtain significant climatic signals revealing the timing of the specific stages of tracheid differentiation. Cell expansion lasted from mid-April to July and was impacted similarly to tree-ring width(stimulated by precipitation and stressed by heat), maximum cell size formed late June. A switch in the climatic responses of mean anatomical traits indicated transition to latewood in mid-July. Secondary wall deposition lasted until mid-September, suppressed by end of season temperatures. Generally, anatomical climatic responses were modulated by a less dry May and September compared with summer months.展开更多

The simulation results show that the frequencies of SW modes and the corresponding DW modes are consistent with each other if they have the same node number along the width direction. This consistency is more pronounced in wide and thin nanostrips, favoring the DW motion driven by SWs.Further analysis of the moving behavior of a DW driven by SWs is also carried out. The average DW speed can reach a larger value of ~ 140 m/s under two different SW sources. We argue that this study is very meaningful for the potential application of DW motion driven by SWs.展开更多

This method can be applied to both metallic and non-metallic pipelines, thus opening new possibilities for health monitoring of pipeline structures.
文摘H-steel all-bolted connection steel frame structures with heat preservation and decoration composite wall boards were investigated and the seismic performances of three scaled specimens were studied. The failure modes, hysteresis curves, bearing capacity, ductility, energy dissipation capacity, stiffness degradation and strain distribution were discussed. The calculation method of structural theoretical internal force was presented. The results showed that the overall structural seismic performance was better, and the structural ductility met the demands of elastic-plastic inter-story drift angle for seismic design. The H-steel weak-axis connection structure obtained better energy dissipation capacity, and its bearing capacity and stiffness were slightly different from the strong-axis connection. The heat preservation and decoration performance of composite wallboard and the all-bolted connection of the steel frame realized prefabrication during the whole construction period. The plastic hinge of the steel beam can be moved outwards because of the L-angles,which effectively avoids stress concentration in joint areas and expands the plastic hinge range. The errors between the theoretical structural capacity calculated by the plastic analysis method and the test results were within 2.44%.In addition, structural failure mechanisms and bearing capacities were verified by the finite element(FE)analysis, and the effects of the main parameters on the structures were investigated. The FE verification results were the same as in the test. The research results provide theoretical support and technical guidance for the application of thermal insulation and decorative composite wall panels in H-shaped steel all-bolted steel frames.

文摘The presence of horizontal layered rocks in tunnel engineering significantly impacts the stability and strength of the surrounding rock mass, leading to floor heave in the tunnel. This study focused on preparing layered specimens of rock-like material with varying thickness to investigate the failure behaviors of tunnel floors. The results indicate that thin-layered rock mass exhibits weak interlayer bonding, causing rock layers near the surface to buckle and break upwards when subjected to horizontal squeezing. With an increase in the layer thickness,a transition in failure mode occurs from upward buckling to shear failure along the plane, leading to a noticeable reduction in floor heave deformation. The primary cause of significant deformation in floor heave is upward buckling failure. To address this issue, the study proposes the installation of a partition wall in the middle of the floor to mitigate heave deformation of the rock layers. The results demonstrate that the partition wall has a considerable stabilizing effect on the floor, reducing the zone of buckling failure and minimizing floor heave deformation. It is crucial for the partition wall to be sufficiently high to prevent buckling failure and ensure stability.Through simulation calculations on an engineering example,it is confirmed that implementing a partition wall can effectively reduce floor heave and enhance the stability of tunnel floor.

文摘Recent methodological advances in quantitative wood anatomy have provided new insights into the climatic responses of radial growth at the scale of cell structure of tree rings. Generally, anatomical climatic responses were modulated by a less dry May and September compared with summer months.
文摘Three-dimensional(3D)printing and bioprinting have come into view for a plannable and standardizable generation of implantable tissue-engineered constructs that can substitute native tissues and organs. These tissue-engineered structures are intended to integrate with the patient’s body.Vascular tissue engineering(TE)is relevant in TE because it supports the sustained oxygenization and nutrition of all tissue-engineered constructs.Bioinks have a specific role, representingthenecessarymedium for printability and vascular cell growth. This review aims to understand the requirements for the design of vascular bioinks.First,an in-depth analysis of vascular cell interaction with their native environment must be gained.A physiological bioink suitable for a tissue-engineered vascular graft(TEVG)must not only ensure good printability but also induce cells to behave like in a native vascular vessel, including self-regenerative and growth functions. This review describes the general structure of vascular walls with wall-specific cell and extracellular matrix(ECM)components and biomechanical properties and functions.Furthermore, the physiological role of vascular ECM components for their interaction with vascular cells and the mode of interaction is introduced.Diverse currently available or imaginable bioinks are described from physiological matrix proteins to nonphysiologically occurring but natural chemical compounds useful for vascular bioprinting. The physiological performance of these bioinks is evaluated with regard to biomechanical properties postprinting, with a view to current animal studies of 3D printed vascular structures. Finally, the main challenges for further bioink development, suitable bioink components to create a self-assembly bioink concept, and future bioprinting strategies are outlined. These concepts are discussed in terms of their suitability to be part of a TEVG with a high potential for later clinical use.

文摘Investigations on domain wall(DW) and spin wave(SW) modes in a series of nanostrips with different widths and thicknesses have been carried out using micromagnetic simulation. We argue that this study is very meaningful for the potential application of DW motion driven by SWs.

文摘Soils are not necessarily uniform and may present linearly varied or layered characteristics, for example the backfilled soils behind rigid retaining walls. In the presence of large lateral thrust imposed by arch bridge, passive soil failure is possible.A reliable prediction of passive earth pressure for the design of such wall is challenging in complicated soil strata, when adopting the conventional limit analysis method. In order to overcome the challenge for generating a kinematically admissible velocity field and a statically allowable stress field, finite element method is incorporated into limit analysis, forming finiteelement upper-bound(FEUB)and finite-element lower-bound(FELB)methods.Pseudo-static,original and modified pseudo-dynamic approaches are adopted to represent seismic acceleration inputs. After generating feasible velocity and stress fields within discretized elements based on specific criteria,FEUB and FELB formulations of seismic passive earth pressure(coefficient K_(P))can be derived from work rate balance equation and stress equilibrium.Resorting to an interior point algorithm, optimal upper and lower bound solutions are obtained. The proposed FEUB and FELB procedures are well validated by limit equilibrium as well as lower-bound and kinematic analyses.Parametric studies are carried out to investigate the effects of influential factors on seismic K_(P).Notably,true solution of K_(P) is well estimated based on less than 5%difference between FEUB and FELB solutions under such complex scenarios.

文摘Combining the detached eddy simulation(DES)method and Ffowcs Williams-Hawkings(FW-H)equation,the effect of bogie cavity end wall inclination on the flow field and aerodynamic noise in the bogie region is numerically studied.First, the simulation is conducted based on a simplified cavity-bogie model, including five cases with different inclination angles of the front and rear walls of the cavity.By comparing and analyzing the flow field and acoustic results of the five cases, the influence of the regularity and mechanism of the bogie cavity end wall inclination on the flow field and the aerodynamic noise of the bogie region are revealed. Then, the noise reduction strategy determined by the results of the simplified cavity-bogie model is applied to a three-car marshaling train model to verify its effectiveness when applied to the real train. The results reveal that the forward inclination of the cavity front wall enlarges the influence area of shear vortex structures formed at the leading edge of the cavity and intensifies the interaction between the vortex structures and the front wheelset, frontmotor, and front gearbox, resulting in the increase of the aerodynamic noise generated by the bogie itself. The backward inclination of the cavity rear wall is conducive to guiding the vortex structures flow out of the cavity and weakening the interaction between the shear vortex structures and the cavity rear wall, leading to the reduction of the aerodynamic noise generated by the bogie cavity.Inclining the rear end wall of the foremost bogie cavity of the head car is a feasible aerodynamic noise reduction measure for high-speed trains.

文摘The Fort d’Issy-Vanves-Clamart(FIVC)braced excavation in France is analyzed to provide insights into the geotechnical serviceability assessment of excavations at great depth within deterministic and probabilistic frameworks. The FIVC excavation is excavated at 32 m below the ground surface in Parisian sedimentary basin and a plane-strain finite element analysis is implemented to examine the wall deflections and ground surface settlements.A stochastic finite element method based on the polynomial chaos Kriging metamodel(MSFEM)is then proposed for the probabilistic analyses.Comparisons with field measurements and former studies are carried out.Several academic cases are then conducted to investigate the great-depth excavation stability regarding the maximum horizontal wall deflection and maximum ground surface settlement. The results indicate that the proposed MSFEM is effective for probabilistic analyses and can provide useful insights for the excavation design and construction.A sensitivity analysis for seven considered random parameters is then implemented. The soil friction angle at the excavation bottom layer is the most significant one for design. The soil-wall interaction effects on the excavation stability are also given.
