Bulk metallic glass rings have the potential applications as annular gasket and active solder in special fields. The bulk metallic glass ring of ZГ41.2Ti13.8Cu12.5Ni10.0Be22.5 with the outer diameter, the inner diameter, and the thickness of 38, 36, and 5 mm, respectively, was prepared by using a special shaped quartz tube water quenching method. The mechanical properties along the whole cross section were investigated by a nanoindentation method, and no evident variation of the Young's modulus and hardness was found, further indicating the single amorphous structure. Amorphous ring and tube-shape parts with different dimensions can be produced by this method. 展开更多

A compound "vacuum firing and water quenching" technique was presented in the synthesis of LiFeP04 cathode powder. The sample was prepared by heating the we-decomposed precursor mixtures sealed in vacuum quartz-tube, followed by water quenching at the sintering temperature. The results indicate that using the "fast quenching" treatment can succeed in controlling overgrowth of the grain size of final product and improving its utilization ratio of active material. The sample synthesized by this technique has the high reversible discharge specific capacity and good cyclic electrochemical performance. 展开更多

High-purity aluminum titanate was synthesized via a water quenching method with waste-residue in the aluminum factory and industrial TiO2 as the main raw materials, which belongs to the comprehensive utilization of solid wastes. Compared with the conventional method, it can reduce synthesis temperature, effectively inhibit decomposition and raise the content of AT; the addition of tiny silicon powder can improve the sintering and optimize the properties of AT. The crystalline phase structure and microstructure of each sample were characterized with XRD and SEM methods; the content of each crystalline phase in each sample was confirmed with Rietveld Quantification method; the properties of each sample were also tested. The experimental results showed that No. 4 is the optimum specimen, with the corresponding mass ratio of Al2O3/TiO2 to be 1.27 and the content of AT of 97.2 wt%. The addition of optimum tiny silicon powder is confirmed to be 8wt%; its corresponding bulk density is 2.63 g/cm^3, bending strength is 46.34 MPa, and the retention of one thermal vibration bending strength is 71.5%. 展开更多

A technique of combination of vacuum firing and water quenching was applied to the synthesis of LiFePO4 powder. The sample was prepared by heating the pre-decomposed precursor mixtures sealed in vacuum quartz-tube, followed by water quenching at the sintering temperature. The synthetic conditions were optimized by orthogonal experiment. The results indicate that the fast quenching treatment can avoid the overgrowth of single crystal and improve its availability ratio of active material. The sintering temperature has the greatest effect on the electrochemical performance of sample. Next is the molar ratio of Li to Fe and the sintering time, respectively. The samples prepared in the optimized technical condition has the highest reversible discharge specific capacity of 149.8 mA·h/g. 展开更多

The interfacial heat transfer coefficient between hot profile surface and cooling water was determined by using inverse heat conduction model combined with end quenching experiment. Then, a Deform-3 D thermo-mechanical coupling model for simulating the on-line water quenching of extruded profile with unequal and large thicknesses was developed. The temperature field, residual stress field and distortion of profile during quenching were investigated systematically. The results show that heat transfer coefficient increases as water flow rate increases. The peak heat transfer coefficient with higher water flow rates appears at lower interface temperatures. The temperature distribution across the cross-section of profile during quenching is severe nonuniform and the maximum temperature difference is 300 ℃ at quenching time of 3.49 s. The temperature difference through the thickness of different parts of profile first increases sharply to a maximum value, and then gradually decreases. The temperature gradient increases obviously with the increase of thickness of parts. After quenching, there exist large residual stresses on the inner side of joints of profile and the two ends of part with thickness of 10 mm. The profile presents a twisting-type distortion across the cross-section under non-uniform cooling and the maximum twisting angle during quenching is 2.78°. 展开更多

Cold-rolled martensitic steel is an important type of advanced high-strength steel for automobile production.With martensite as its primary microstructure constituent, martensitic steel possesses exceptional high strength despite its low alloy content.As the strength of cold-rolled martensitic steel increases, the martensite and carbon content also increases, leading to a decrease in bending properties and toughness.In this paper, the effect of various tempering parameters on the bending property and impact toughness of a quenched cold-rolled martensitic steel sheet was studied.It is found that after quenching, the ductility and impact toughness of the experimental steel are improved using low-temperature heat treatment.The optimal tempering conditions for ductility and toughness are analyzed. 展开更多

Melting Reconstruction Features and Solidification Mechanism of Heavy Metal-containing Slag

The relationships between microstructure and melting temperature of slag containing different heavy metals (Zn, Cu, Pb and Cr) were studied. Furthermore, the corresponding solidification mechanism and rule of heavy metals were analyzed by microscopic tests during melting and reconstructing process. Based on preliminary results, three conclusions were derived. Firstly, pure slag would begin to melt when the temperature reached 1 180℃; however, Zn did not play any fluxing action. Secondly, upon adding Cu and Pb, the initial melting temperature of slag decreased by 5-8℃ and their fluxing effect was observed. Thirdly, the initial melting temperature and the reaction time for slag decreased by 22℃ and 6 s respectively after adding Cr; the fluxing action was significant under Cr. The results of X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscope (FTIR) analyses showed that the above heavy metals had little influence on the reconstruction of slag. Toxicity characteristic leaching procedure (TCLP) leaching tests showed a good solidification effect of the heavy metals with melting slag, fixation rate of Zn, Cu, Pb and Cr was 36.3%, 24.6%, 9.2% and 93.2%, respectively. The leaching toxicity of the heavy metals met the requirements for environmental emission after solidification treatment. 展开更多

Specimens of two different kinds of bake hardening steels (BH-Mn and BH-P) were prepared and treated with different annealing processes (water quenching and overaging). A novel technique of three dimensional atom probe was used to investigate solute distributions in these steels. The results indicate that C concentration decreases, whereas V increases during overaging in both bake hardening steels. The conclusion that no vanadium carbides pre- cipitate during the overaging is therefore originally obtained by microanalysis in bake hardening steels. Moreover, bake hardening values of all the specimens were tested by tensile experiments with 2 0/~ pre-deformation. However, those of overaged specimens were further measured with higher levels of pre-deformation because no bake hardening phenomenon was present at 2% pre-deformation. As the pre-deformation increases from 2% to 6% and 8%, both overaged steels show bake hardening values, and the value data are almost the same. 展开更多

The alloying design idea,strengthening-toughening mechanism,microstructure,mechanical performances,development and application in China of new type Mn-series bainitic steels are introduced.Mn-series air-cooling bainitic steels including granular bainitic steels,FGBA /BG duplex steels,CFB/M duplex steels,medium carbon bainite/martensite steels,cast bainitic steels are presented.The invented idea mechanical performances,development and application of second generation of Mn-series bainitic steels,i.e.water quenching Mn-series bainitic steels invented by the authors newly are introduced.The water quenching Mn-series bainitic steels cover severe series steels containing ultra-low carbon,low-low carbon,medium-low carbon,and high-low carbon content etc,which can reduce the amount of alloying content,increase hardening capability and improve weldability.It should be pointed out that the application of both air cooling and water quenching Mn-series bainitic steels are complementary and mutually reinforcing,and the new type Mn-series bainitic steels can meet the performance requirements of most steels used in engineering structure.Some newest technologies of Mn-series bainitic steels in China are discussed in this paper.It is suggested that the significance of the development of the Mn-series bainitic steels can be summarized as:significantly reducing costs of both raw materials and production;good combination of strength and toughness;excellent weldability;simple procedure;large savings in energy resources and reduced environmental pollution. 展开更多
