The spatial correlations of acoustic field have important implications for underwater target detection and other ap- plications in deep water. In this paper, the spatial correlations of the high intensity zone in the deep-water acoustic field are investigated by using the experimental data obtained in the South China Sea. The experimental results show that the structures of the spatial correlation coefficient at different ranges and depths are similar to the transmission loss structure in deep water. The main reason for this phenomenon is analyzed by combining the normal mode theory with the ray theory. It is shown that the received signals in the high intensity zone mainly include one or two main pulses which are contributed by the interference of a group of waterbome modes with similar phases. The horizontal-longitudinal correlations at the same receiver depth but in different high intensity zones are analyzed. At some positions, more pulses are received in the arrival structure of the signal due to bottom reflection and the horizontal-longitudinal correlation coefficient decreases accordingly. The multi-path arrival structure of receiving signal becomes more complex with increasing receiver depth. 展开更多

In order to improve the effectiveness of Fuzzy Synthetic Evaluation (FSE) models, a Parameter Correlation Analysis (PCA) was introduced into the FSE and a case study was carried out in the Naoli River in the Sanjiang Plain, Northeast China. The basic principle of the PCA is that the pairs of parameters which are highly correlated and linear with each other would contribute the same information to an assessment and one of them should be eliminated. The method of the PCA is that a correlation relationship among candidate parameters is examined before the FSE. If there is an apparent nonlinear or curvilinear relationship between two parameters, then both will be retained; if the correlation is significant (p<0.01), and the scatter plot suggests a linear relationship, then one of them will be deleted. However, which one will be deleted? For solving this problem, a sensitivity test was conducted and the higher sensitivity parameters remained. The results indicate that the original data should be preprocessed through the PCA for redundancy and variability. The study shows that introducing the PCA into the FSE can simplify the FSE calculation process greatly, while the results have not been changed much. 展开更多

In order to identify the principal factors influencing soil water characteristics (SWC) and evaluate SWC effectively, the multivariate-statistical canonical correlation analysis (CCA) method was used to study and analyze the correlation between SWC and soil physical and chemical properties. Twenty-two soil samples were taken from 11 main tobacco-growing areas in Guizhou Province in China and the soil water characteristic curves (SWCC) and basic physical and chemical properties of the soil samples were determined. The results show that: (1) The soil bulk density, soil total porosity and soil capillary porosity have significant effects on SWC of tobacco fiels. Bulk density and total porosity are positively correlated with soil water retention characteristics (SWRC), and soil capillary porosity is positively correlated with soil water supply characteristics (SWSC). (2) Soil samples from different soil layers at the same soil sampling point show similarity or consistency in SWC. Inadequate soil water supply capability and imbalance between SWRC and SWSC are problems of tobacco soil. (3) The SWC of loamy clay are generally superior to those of silty clay loam. 展开更多

The horizontal-longitudinal correlations of the acoustic field in deep water are investigated based on the experi- mental data obtained in the South China Sea. It is shown that the horizontal-longitudinal correlation coefficients in the convergence zone are high, and the correlation length is consistent with the convergence zone width, which depends on the receiver depth and range. The horizontal-longitudinal correlation coefficients in the convergence zone also have a division structure for the deeper receiver. The signals from the second part of the convergence zone are still correlated with the reference signal in the first part. The horizontal-longitudinal correlation coeffi- cients in the shadow zone are lower than that in the convergence zone, and the correlation length in the shadow zone is also much shorter than that in the convergence zone. The numerical simulation results by using the normal modes theory are qualitatively consistent with the experimental results. 展开更多

The Western Route of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project is an important trans-basin diversion project to transfer water from the upstream Yangtze River and its tributaries (water-exporting area), to the upstream of the Yellow River (water- importing area). The long-term hydrologieal data from 14 stream gauging stations in the Western Route area and techniques including the pre-whitening approach, non-parametric test, Bayes, law, variance analysis extrapolation, and Wavelet Analysis are applied to identify the streamflow eharacteristics and trends, streamflow time series cross-correlations, wetness-dryness encountering probability, and periodicities that occurred over the last 50 years. The results show that the water-exporting area, water- importing area, and the streteh downstream of the water-exporting have synehronization in high-low flow relationship, whereas they display non- synchronization in long-term evolution. This corresponds to the complicated and variable climate of the plateau region. There is no obvious increasing or decreasing trend in runoff at any gauging station. The best hydrological eompensation probability for rivers where water is diverted is about 25% to lO%, and those rivers influenced significantly by diversion are the Jinsha and Yalong rivers. Proper planning and design of compensation reservoirs for the water-exporting area and stretch downstream of the water- exporting area can increase the hydrological compensation possibility from water-exporting area to the water-importing area, and reduce the impact on the stretch of river downstream of the water- exporting area. 展开更多

The horizontal-longitudinal correlation of acoustic field for the receiver near the bottom is analyzed by using nu- merical modeling. An approximate analytical solution of horizontal-longitudinal correlation coefficient is derived based on the ray method. Combining the characteristic of Lloyd's mirror interference pattern, the variability of acoustic field and its effect on horizontal-longitudinal spatial correlation are discussed. The theoretical pre- diction agrees well with the numerical results. Experimental results confirm the validity of analytical solution. Finally, the applicability of the analytical solution is summarized. The conclusion is beneficial for the design of bottom-moored array and the estimation of integral time for moving source localization. 展开更多

According to the measured groundwater pollution concentration at two monitoring sections of Gusong River coast, adopting progressive dislocation correlation analysis method, correlation between surface water of Gusong River and groundwater pollution was analyzed.Result showed that propagation time of pollutant between river water and groundwater was longer.According to the water level observation data, river water level was>1 m higher than groundwater table. The groundwater infiltration parameter was determined through the field permeability test data. The Dupuit formula was used to calculate recharge and discharge relationship between river surface water and groundwater. It was obtained that the daily average recharge capacity of right-bank river water to groundwater was 3 m3,and pollution of river surface water had very small influence on groundwater.Using MATLAB software for data analysis and processing, regression equation was established. The chloride as correlation analysis example, results showed that groundwater chloride had the maximum correlation with observation well distance, and correlation with time and monitoring value of surface water was very small. The linear relationship between surface water and groundwater was not obvious. 展开更多

Based on the development of the offshore water drive reservoir, the determination of reasonable water injection of monolayer and single well affects the distribution of remaining oil and development effect of oil field water flooding, so this paper, using the grey correlation analysis method, studies the main factors influencing the dividing coefficient of water-injection and weight. This method takes into account the effective thickness, permeability, injection-production well spacing, the number of injection-production wells, and the direction of formation coefficient factors such as the influence of the dividing coefficient for injection. The formula for water-injection multi-factor controlled is established, at the same time, applying water injection formula of this article and the conventional on injection allocation of A-platform offshore injection wells. And the difference of single-well injection-allocation quantity in layers is analyzed. Based on a platform offshore, layers exist in the process of water flooding and the problems such as the contradiction between the layers, put forward the necessity of layered water injection through this article to determine water injection formula and injection allocation on a platform of injection wells by implementing effect which can be found. A platform for water flooding development of water cut under control, natural decline rate reduced to verify the reliability and practicability of the formula to determine injection in this paper. It has certain guiding significance to the offshore for the water-injection development oilfield. 展开更多

Using 4 global reanalysis data sets, significant upward trends of precipitable water vapor(PWV) were found in the 3 time periods of 1958-2020, 1979-2020, and 2000-2020. During 1958-2020, the global PWV trends obtained using the ERA5 and JRA55 data sets are 0.19 ± 0.01 mm per decade(1.15 ± 0.31%)and 0.23 ± 0.01 mm per decade(1.45 ± 0.32%), respectively. The PWV trends obtained using the ERA5,JRA55, NCEP-NCAR, and NCEP-DOE data sets are 0.22 ± 0.01 mm per decade(1.18 ± 0.54%),0.21 ± 0.00 mm per decade(1.76 ± 0.56%), 0.27 ± 0.01 mm per decade(2.20 ± 0.70%) and 0.28 ± 0.01 mm per decade(2.19 ± 0.70%) for the period 1979-2020. During 2000-2020, the PWV trends obtained using ERA5, JRA55, NCEP-DOE, and NCEP-NCAR data sets are 0.40 ± 0.25 mm per decade(2.66 ± 1.51%),0.37 ± 0.24 mm per decade(2.19 ± 1.54%), 0.40 ± 0.26 mm per decade(1.96 ± 1.53%) and 0.36 ± 0.25 mm per decade(2.47 ± 1.72%), respectively. Rising PWV has a positive impact on changes in precipitation, increasing the probability of extreme precipitation and then changing the frequency of flood disasters. Therefore, exploring the relationship between PWV(derived from ERA5 and JRA55) change and flood disaster frequency from 1958 to 2020 revealed a significant positive correlation between them, with correlation coefficients of 0.68 and 0.79, respectively, which explains the effect of climate change on the increase in flood disaster frequency to a certain extent. The study can provide a reference for assessing the evolution of flood disasters and predicting their frequency trends. 展开更多

Excess correlations, one of the quantitative demonstrations of “entanglement”, have been experimentally demonstrated as spontaneous shifts in photon properties and molecular interactions. The magnitudes of the excess correlations have been enhanced experimentally for photon emissions and proton densities in aqueous solutions when the loci containing these physical chemical reactions shared circular magnetic fields whose angular velocities were always changing. In the present experiment, quantities of spring water each placed in one of two loci (local or non-local) separated by 100 or 10,000 m were exposed simultaneously to toroidal magnetic fields within a paradigm that has been shown to produce conspicuous excess correlations in shifts of photon emissions, pH in spring water, and human brain activity as inferred by electroencephalography. The non-local area that was not injected with proton donors displayed a reliable shift in pH when the local area was serially injected with small aliquots of protons but only during the presentations of the field parameters known to produce “entanglement”. The effect was most obvious when the global geomagnetic activity was less than Kp < 3. The probability is high that convergent similarities in the magnitudes of the local geomagnetic intensities of the two loci enhance the strength of the excess correlations. These results suggest that a minimal energy and inexpensive system, not involving classical electromagnetic transmission through a medium, but influenced by the global geomagnetic field activity, could be employed to generalize and superpose information between two non-local spaces. 展开更多

[ Objective] This study was to analyze the two hydrochemical factors affecting the distribution of Ceratopteris thalictroides, further to provide basis for its habitat protection and population restoration. [ Method ] Twenty two hydrochemical parameters of 22 sampling sites in China's tropical and subtropical zones were respectively averaged for calculating their variation coefficients, of which the two showing significant differences were used for multiple comparisons and correlation analyses via least significant difference and correlation coefficient. E Result ] The correlation coefficients of all the 22 tested hydrochemical parameters varied hugely, but only pH value and conductivity showed significantly differences in two water body (type A and type B). Analysis of correlation presented that pH value were positively correlated with conductivity; further the multiple comparisons showed that the significant difference of pH value was higher than that of conductivity. [Conclusion] With regard to the two hydrochemical parameters showing significant differences, pH value influences the distribution of C. thalictroides more. 展开更多

Fabric-skin adhesion was objectively described by the indices of the maximum adhesion force F_(max) , the maximum separation distance L_(max) ,and adhesion work W as well as the adhesion force-separation distance curve. Firstly, gray correlation analysis method was adopted to investigate the correlation levels between adhesion indices, and secondly the relative importance of fabric structural parameters to fabric-skin adhesion,as well as the correlation levels between skin adhesion, water absorption, and wicking properties of the fabric. The results prove that W exhibits clear correlations with both F_(max) and L_(max) , yet the relevance between F_(max) and L_(max) is weak. Fabric adhesion indices are most associated with fabric mass and least with fabric thickness, whereas fabric wicking and water absorption present closest correlation with fabric thickness. Therefore, it is concluded that the relevance between fabric wicking, water absorption, and skin-adhesion properties are rather comprehensive than straight. 展开更多

Increasing bacteria levels in the Lower Neches River caused by Hurricane Harvey has been of a serious concern. This study is to analyze the historical water sampling measurements and real-time water quality data collected with wireless sensors to monitor and evaluate water quality under different hydrological and hydraulic conditions. The statistical and Pearson correlation analysis on historical water samples determines that alkalinity, chloride, hardness, conductivity, and pH are highly correlated, and they decrease with increasing flow rate due to dilution. The flow rate has positive correlations with Escherichia coli, total suspended solids, and turbidity, which demonstrates that runoff is one of the causes of the elevated bacteria and sediment loadings in the river. The correlation between E.coli and turbidity indicates that turbidity greater than 45 nephelometric turbidity units in the Neches River can serve as a proxy for E.coli to indicate the bacterial outbreak.A series of statistical tools and an innovative two-layer data smoothing filter are developed to detect outliers, fill missing values, and filter spikes of the sensor measurements. The correlation analysis on the sensor data illustrates that the elevated sediment/bacteria/algae in the river is either caused by the first flush rain and heavy rain events in December to March or practices of land use and land cover. Therefore, utilizing sensor measurements along with rainfall and discharge data is recommended to monitor and evaluate water quality, then in turn to provide early alerts on water resources management decisions. 展开更多

Research activities involving heat transfer at supercritical pressures have attracted attention in recent years because of possibility of increase in thermal output of heat transfer and industrial equipment. Because of high pressure and temperature conditions associated with heat transfer at supercritical pressures, only few experimental heat transfer studies are being carried out at supercritical conditions. The use of numerical tools for heat transfer and other related studies at supercritical pressures is increasing because of the high-pressure-temperature limitation of experimental studies at supercritical conditions. Heat transfer correlations implemented in these numerical tools are used to obtain numerical heat transfer data to complement experimental heat transfer data provided through experimental studies. In order to further broaden the understanding of fluid flow and heat transfer, this review examines the performance of heat transfer correlations adopted at supercritical pressures. It is found from the review that most of the correlations could predict heat transfer quite well in the low enthalpy region and few of the correlations could predict heat transfer in the high enthalpy region near critical and pseudo-critical conditions (heat transfer deteriorated conditions). However, no single heat transfer correlation is able to accurately predict all the experimental results presented in this work. 展开更多

To investigate the presence of metal elements and assess their health risk for the populace in the Nandong Underground River Basin(NURB),we conducted an analysis of eleven common heavy metals in the water body.A Health risk assessment(HRA)model was employed to analyze 84 water samples from the NURB.The detection results revealed the following order of heavy metals concentrations:Fe>Al>Mn>Zn>As>Cd>Pb>Cr>Ni>Cu>Hg.Correlation analysis indicated a certain similarity in material source and migration transformation among these eleven metal elements. Our study identified that the health risks for local residents exposed to metal elements in the water of NURB primarily stem from carcinogenic risk(10^(−6)–10^(−4)a^(−1))through the drinking water pathway. Moreover, the health risk of heavy metal exposure for children through drinking water was notably higher than for adults. The maximum health risks of Cr in both underground and surface water exceeded the recommendation standard(5.0×10^(−5)a^(−1))from ICRP,surpassing the values recommended by the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency, the Dutch Ministry of Construction and Environment and the British Royal Society(5.0×10^(−6)a^(−1)).The results of the health risk assessment indicate that Cr in the water of NURB is the primary source of carcinogenic risk for local residents, followed by Cd and As.Consequently,it is imperative to control these three carcinogenic metals when the water was used as drinking water resource. 展开更多

Losses due to hazards are inevitable and numerical simulations for estimations are complex. This study proposes a model for estimating correlated seismic damages and losses of a water supply pipeline system as an alternative for numerical simulations. The common approach in other research shows average damage spots per mesh estimated statistically independent to one another.Spatially distributed lifeline systems, such as water supply pipelines, are interconnected, and seismic spatial variability affects the damages across the region;thus, spatial correlation of damage spots is an important factor in target areas for portfolio loss estimation.Generally, simulations are used to estimate possible losses;however, these assume each damage behaves independently and uncorrelated. This paper assumed that damages per mesh behave in a Poisson distribution to avoid over-dispersion and eliminate negative losses in estimations. The purpose of this study is to obtain a probabilistic portfolio loss model of an extensive water supply area. The proposed model was compared to the numerical simulation data with the correlated Poisson distribution. The application of the Normal To Anything(NORTA)obtained correlations for Poisson Distributions. The proposed probabilistic portfolio loss model, based on the generalized linear model and central limit theory, estimated the possible losses, such as the Probable Maximum Loss(PML,90%non-exceedance)or Normal Expected Loss(NEL,50%non-exceedance).The proposed model can be used in other lifeline systems as well, though additional investigation is needed for confirmation. From the estimations,a seismic physical portfolio loss for the water supply system was presented. The portfolio was made to show possible outcomes for the system. The proposed method was tested and analyzed using an artificial field and a location-based scenario of a water supply pipeline system. This would aid in pre-disaster planning and would require only a few steps and time. 展开更多
