PES-W is deriv...Abstract: This study discusses the benefits of establishing a broader discipline of water science, based on the organizing mechanism of PES-W (payments for ecosystem services on the watershed scale). PES-W is derived from an extension of governance analyses of 163 watershed-based PES (payments for ecosystem services) programs, and from the integrative decision mechanism of IPES (integrated payments for ecosystem services) to generalize the PES approach. PES-W reflects three interrelated perspectives fundamental to the global science of integrated water governance: (1) the ecological and economic perspective to integrate human incentives for integrated water resources governance; (2) the sociological and ecological perspective to form partnerships for meta-monitoring and recta-funding for integrated watershed governance; and (3) the scientific and sociological perspective to develop organizing botmdaries based on technology, lifestyle, entrepreneurship and organizing infrastructure for integrated aquatic ecosystem governance. This study is intended to communicate with the international scientific communities for establishing an advanced, academic, and practical multidisciplinary field of the global science of integrated water governance as a critical condition for sustainable development in human societies.展开更多
The confinements of water can be divided into two main categories,namely,the confinements on surface or interface and the confinements in bulk water.By adding ions or applying electric field,the intensity and distribu...The confinements of water can be divided into two main categories,namely,the confinements on surface or interface and the confinements in bulk water.By adding ions or applying electric field,the intensity and distribution of the hydrogen bonds can be greatly affected.These are collectively known as confinement on water surface or interface,which has potential applications in life science and industries involving evaporation control.Confined bulk water could be found everywhere in nature,such as in granular and porous materials,macromolecules and gels,etc.The investigation of the physical properties and the transports of the confined bulk water will contribute to understanding certain types of life activities such as the water transport in plant and in new application of extracting the shale oil and water.展开更多

An essential element for continued economic prosperity is a water supply of guaranteed quality and quantity, providing critical insurance for food safety, health, and political stability. However, China's economic success has come with serious water resources problems, intensified by human activities and climate change. The nation is now facing extreme levels of water pollution, soil erosion, and sedimentation, along with floods, droughts, and urban storms. Taken together, these impacts have provided a serious headwind to socioeconomic development in China. This article discusses the problems and emerging opportunities for the coming generation of water scientists and engineers.展开更多
