The semi-insulating GaN substrates are grown by hydride vapor phase epitaxy(HVPE)and doped with Fe. The anisotropy of Rayleigh propagation and the electromechanical coupling coefficient in Fe-doped GaN are investigated. The difference in resonance frequency between the SAWs between [1120] GaN and [1100] GaN is about 0.25% for the Rayleigh propagation mode, which is smaller than that of non-intentionally doped GaN film(~1%)reported in the literature. The electromechanical coupling coefficient of Fe-doped GaN is about 3.03%, which is higher than that of non-intentionally doped GaN film. The one-port SAWR fabricated on an 8-μm Fe-doped GaN/sapphire substrate has a quality factor of 2050, and that fabricated on Fe-doped bulk GaN has a quality factor as high as 3650. All of our results indicate that high-quality bulk GaN is a very promising material for application in SAW devices.展开更多

This numerical model is improved by 1) introducing Wen's frequency spectrum and Mitsuyasu's directional function, which are more suitable to the coastal area of China; 2) considering energy dissipation caused by bottom friction, which ensures more accurate results for large-scale and shallow water areas; 3) taking into account a non-linear dispersion relation. Predictions using the extended wave model are carried out to study the feasibility of constructing the Ai Hua yacht port in Qingdao, China, with a comparison between two port layouts in design. Wave fields inside the port for different incident wave directions, water levels and return periods are simulated, and then two kinds of parameters are calculated to evaluate the wave conditions for the two layouts. Analyses show that Layout I is better than Layout II. Calculation results also show that the harbor will be calm for different wave directions under the design water level. On the contrary, the wave conditions do not wholly meet the requirements of a yacht port for ship berthing under the extreme water level. For safety consideration, the elevation of the breakwater might need to be properly increased to prevent wave overtopping under such water level. The extended numerical simulation model may provide an effective approach to computing wave heights in a harbor.展开更多

The six-port model is implemented in Advanced Design System (ADS) using S-parameter measurements for realistic advanced simulation of a short-range 60 GHz wireless link. Millimeter-wave frequency conversion is performed using a six-port down-converter. The second frequency conversion is performed using conventional means because of low IF. A comparison between the proposed receiver and a conventional balanced millimeter-wave mixer shows that the proposed receiver improves conversion loss and I/Q phase stability over the local oscillator (LO) and RF power ranges. The results of demodulating a V-band quadrature phase-shift keying (QPSK) signal at a high data rate of 100 Mb/s-1 Gb/s are discussed. The results of a bit error rate (BER) and error vector magnitude (EVM) analysis prove that the proposed architecture can be successfully used for wireless link transmission up to 10 m.展开更多

The area is located in the southern Caspian Sea near the Anzali Port. Recorded wave data were obtained through directional spectrum wave analysis. Recorded wind direction and wind speed were obtained through the related time series as well. For 12-month measurements(May 25 2007-2008), statistical calculations were done to specify the value of nonlinear auto-correlation of wave and wind using the probability distribution function of wave characteristics and statistical analysis in various time periods. The paper also presents and analyzes the amount of wave energy for the area mentioned on the basis of available database. Analyses showed a suitable comparison between the amounts of wave energy in different seasons. As a result, the best period for the largest amount of wave energy was known. Results showed that in the research period, the mean wave and wind auto correlation were about three hours. Among the probability distribution functions, i.e Weibull, Normal, Lognormal and Rayleigh, "Weibull" had the best consistency with experimental distribution function shown in different diagrams for each season. Results also showed that the mean wave energy in the research period was about 49.88 k W/m and the maximum density of wave energy was found in February and March, 2010.展开更多

In the laboratory, natural wave conditions cannot be simulated exactly by a harbor sheltering experiment with irregular long-crested waves, especially since the results of diffraction tests with reflection source are often inaccurate. Only a small number of laboratories in the world have possessed a directional spectrum wave producer because of its complication and expension. This paper describes the experiment for multi-directional wave superposition of wave diffraction, with the conventional regular wave producer and one-direction irregular wave producer. The test results are of equal value with that from a directional spectra wave. This method is suitable for rational design of harbor engineering projects and can be adopted in future practice.展开更多

To obtain realistic simulation results, a six-port model based on the measurement results of a fabricated V-band hybrid coupler, the core component, is used. A frequency-division multiplexing scheme is used by introducing four quadrature phase-shift keying (QPSK) channels in the wireless communication link. The data rate achieved is about 4 Gbit/s. The operating frequency is in the 60-64 GHz unlicensed band. Bit error rate (BER) results are presented, and a comparison is made between single-carrier and multicarrier architectures. The proposed wireless system can be considered an efficient candidate for millimeter-wave communication systems operating at quasi-optical data rates.展开更多
