In this study, remote sensing data of Wuhan City,Hubei Province,China in 1996-2001 were selected to ex-tract wetland landscape information.Several landscape indices were used to evaluate the changes of landscape pattern within the five years, including patch number, patch density, patch fractal dimension, landscape diversity, dominance, evenness, and fragmentation indexes. Then, transformation probabilities of wetland landscapes into non-wetland land-scapes were calculated based on Markov Model, and on these grounds the relationship between changes of wetland landscape pattern and urban construction was analyzed. The results showed that fragmentation degree of all wetland types increased, lake area declined, and dominance of natural wetland decreased. The reasons for these results were mainly because of urban construction.According to the features of abundant wetland in Wuhan City,we suggested that protection of wetland landscape should cooperate with urban construction, which means wetland should become im-portant part of urban landscape. 展开更多

This study introduces a method to quantify the sceaic value of wetland landscapes and provides the guid- ance on the allocation of efforts for the purpose of preserving the most important environments. Dongting Lake, a tra-ditional tourist location, is one of the five largest freshwater lakes in China and a Grade 5A National Scenic Region. This study objectively analyzes the scenic resources of South Dongting Lake, and presents a model based on Quantifi- cation Theory I to assess wetland scenic landscapes. Employing a multilinear regression relationship between land-scape factors and their associated scenic value, we built up the Wetland Landscape Quantification Model (WLQM), which was used to classify 221 landscapes into five grades. Finally, some suggestions are proposed regarding quantita-tive assessment and its use for the sustainable development of wetland environments. 展开更多

As an important resource and the living environment of mankind, wetland has become gradually a highlight, strongly concerned and intensively studied by scientists and sociologists. The governments in the world and the whole society have been paying more and more attention on it. The Dongting Lake of China is regarded as an internationally important wetland. For a rational development and protection of the wetland, an investigation and studied on its resources and its value to tourism in the South Dongting Lake was conducted, to create an assessment system of the ecological landscapes, and to evaluate qualitatively and quantitatively the value of wetland landscape to the eco-tourism. The results showed that the scenic value of the South Dongting Lake Wetland satisfied the criterion of AAAA grade of China national scenic attraction. The eco-tourism value of the landscape cultures in the South Dongting Lake Wetland was discussed with emphasis. It were formulated that a principle and frame of sustainable exploitation of the wetland landscapes and it was proposed as well that establishing a Wetland Park and developing eco-tourism in the South Dongting Lake. Wetland is a fragile ecosystem with low resistance to the impact of the exploitation. Thus, we must pay intensively attention to the influence of exploitation on the landscape, take the ecological risk in account to employ a right countermeasure and avoid the negative affection. 展开更多

Based on the interpretation and vector processing of remote sensing images in 1985 and 2000, the spatial changes of wetland landscape patterns in Dadu River catchment in the last two decades were studied using spatial analysis method. Supported by Apack soft-ware, the indices of wetland landscape pattern were calculated, and the information entropy (IE) was also introduced to show the changes of wetland landscape information. Results showed that wetland landscape in this region was characteristic of patch-corridor-matrix configuration and dominantly consisted of natural wetlands. Landscape patterns changed a little with low fragment and showed concentrated distribution with partial scattered distribution during the period from 1985 to 2000. The values of patch density and convergence index kept stable, and the values of diversity, evenness indices decrease, while dominance and and IE showed a slight fractal dimension indices were increased. All types of wetland landscapes had higher adjacency probabilities with grassland landscape in 1985 and 2000, and there was extremely weak hydrological link and large spatial gap among river, glacier, reservoir and pond wetlands due to low adjacency matrix values. Since their cumulative contribution exceeded 81% through the PCA analysis, the agriculture activities would be the main driving force to the landscape changes during the past 15 years. 展开更多

Zoige Plateau wetlands are located in the northeastern corner of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. The landscape pattern evolution processes in the Zoige Plateau and their driving factors were identified by analyzing the dynamic changes in landscape modification and conversion and their dynamic rates of alpine wetlands over the past four decades. The results showed that the landscape conversion between wetlands and non-wetlands mainly occurred during the period from 1966 to 1986.The marsh wetland area converted from lake and river wetlands was larger because of swamping compared to other wetland landscapes.Meanwhile, the larger area of marsh wetlands was also converted to lake wetlands more than other types of wetlands. The modification processes mainly occurred among natural wetland landscapes in the first three periods.Obvious conversions were observed between wetland and nonwetland landscapes(i.e.,forestland,grassland,and other landscapes) in the Zoige Plateau. These natural wetland landscapes such as river, lake and marsh wetlands showed a net loss over the past four decades, whereas artificial wetland landscapes(i.e.,paddy field and reservoir and pond wetlands) showed a net decrease. The annual dynamic rate of the whole wetland landscape was 0.72%,in which the annual dynamic rate of river wetlands was the highest, followed by lake wetlands, while marsh wetlands had the lowest dynamic rate. The integrated landscape dynamic rate showed a decreasing trend in the first three periods. The changes in wetland landscape patterns were comprehensively controlled by natural factors and human activities, especially human activities play an important role in changing wetland landscape patterns. 展开更多

Widely application of CWs (Constructed Wetlands) in domestic wastewater treatment of China is developing wetlands into a multi-function wetland system. Wetland center in CAMIP (Changshu Advanced Materials Industrial Park) (Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, China) successfully improved tail water quality to level IV of Environment Quality Standards for Surface Water (GB3838-2002) by the combination of different CW steps and achieved water reuse in CAMIP for industrial purpose. Different from traditional tail water advanced treatment, wetland center is designed under the principle of combining landscape and ecological treatment technology. Since this center started running, the removal rate of TN (Total Nitrogen), NH3-N, TP (Total Phosphorus) and COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand) reaches 87%, 91%, 44% and 60% respectively. Also, 2,038,000 m^3 industrial water reuse in 2015 and 2016 was achieved; emission reduction on COD, NH3-N and TN reached 100 t, 7.2 t and 15.2 t; an ecological garden that combines ecological wastewater treatment, wetland landscape, habitat renovation and educational functions was created. 展开更多

The Hani terrace paddyfield in Yunnan Province,China is categorized as a‘constructed wetland’under the Lamsar Convention classification. The Hani terrace paddyfield ranges from an altitude of 144 to 2000 m above sea level(ASL)in the southern slopes of the Ailao Mountains, angling down at a range of 15°to 75°.In this study,we investigated the ecosystem of the terrace paddyfields in the Mengpin and Quanfuzhuang administrative villages located at the center of the cultural heritage conservation district in the Hani terrace paddy-field.The Hani terrace paddyfield ecosystem structure is"forest-village-terrace paddyfield-river"in the order of descending altitude.Soil and water samples were sequen-tially taken from forests, villages and the terrace paddy-fields to be able to study the vertical characteristics of Hani’s terrace paddyfields.PO_(4)-P and NH_(3)-N in water were measured to test for water contamination.Seven soil nutrient factors were tested, including organic material(OM),char and nitrogen ratio(C/N),pH,total nitrogen(TN),total phosphorus(TP),available phosphorus(AP),and available potassium(AK).Soil quality was also eval-uated using the characteristics of the soil nutrient factors.Vertical changes in the landscape, wetland types, wetland plants, hydrology and soil nutrients were characterized. Results showed that:(1)Hani’s terrace paddyfield can be divided into five types of wetlands;the rice varieties and cultivation patterns vary in each type of wetland.(2)Hani’s terrace paddyfield has a great capacity for water conservation and a strong ability to purify contaminants. The impoundage of Hani’s terrace paddyfield is about 5050 m^(3)/hm^(2).Contaminants in the terrace paddyfield soils decrease exponentially with the decline in altitude.(3)Comparison of soil quality in five different land use types indicates decreasing soil quality from forest to terrace land to terrace paddyfield to water source.Except for headwater soil, single factors such as OM,TN and TP,and the comprehensive soil quality in individual sampling zones tend to increase with altitude elevation.Comprehensive soil quality in the Quanfuzhuang sampling zone is better than in the Mengpin sampling zone. Finally,a comparison of Hani’s terrace paddyfield with plain paddyfields and natural wetlands highlighted the vertical characteristics of Hani’s terrace paddyfield. 展开更多
