In order to ensure the safe operation of railroads, there is a need for wind and sand protection in heavily sandy areas. The wind and sand flow in the region is notably bi-directional. To shield railroads from sand, a unique sand fence made of folded linear high-density polyethylene(HDPE) is used, aligning with the principle that the dominant wind direction is perpendicular to the fence. This study employed field observations and numerical simulations to investigate the effectiveness of these HDPE sand fences in altering flow field distribution and offering protection. It also explored how these fences affect the deposition and erosion of sand particles. Findings revealed a significant reduction in wind speed near the fence corner;the minimum horizontal wind speed on the leeward side of the first sand fence(LSF) decreased dramatically from 3 m/s to 0.64 m/s. The vortex area on the LSF markedly impacted horizontal wind speeds. Within the LSF, sand deposition was a primary occurrence. As wind speeds increased, the deposition zone shrank, whereas the positive erosion zone expanded. Close to the folded corners of the HDPE sand fence, there was a notable shift from the positive erosion zone to a deposition zone. Field tests and numerical simulations confirmed the high windproof efficiency(WE) and sand resistance efficiency(SE) in the HDPE sand fence. Folded linear HDPE sheet sand fence can effectively slow down the incoming flow and reduce the sand content, thus achieving good wind and sand protection. This study provides essential theoretical guidance for the design and improvement of wind and sand protection systems in railroad engineering.展开更多

The measurement results show that, on the conditions of approximate wind velocities and same surface materials and environments, some changes happen to the structure of wind-sand flow with the increase of total sand transport rate on the crest of coastal transverse ridge. Those changes have a close relationship with the limit of sand grain size of wind flow transporting and composition of sand grain size in the wind-sand flow.展开更多

The real-time data of sand-deposit height and radius were obtained by the self-developed sand-deposit detectors. The test results show that the detecting method is simple and has high precision. In the use of sand-flow method, the sand-carrying capability of fluid is limited, and sand particles are all transported to the sand-deposit periphery through crater, gap and chutes after the sand deposit formed. The diffusion range of the particles outside the sand-deposit does not exceed 2.0 m. Severe sorting of sand particles is not observed because of the unique oblique-layered depositing process. The temporal and spatial distributions of gap and chutes directly affect the sand-deposit expansion, and the expansion trend of the average sand-deposit radius accords with quadratic time-history curve.展开更多

To confirm whether the core shooting process has significant turbulence, the flow pattern of sand particles in the shooting head and core box was reproduced with colored core sands. By incorporating the kinetic theory of granular flow(KTGF), kinetic-frictional constitutive correlation and turbulence model, a two-fluid model(TFM) was established to study the flow dynamics of the core shooting process. Two-fluid model(TFM) simulations were then performed and a areasonable agreement was achieved between the simulation and experimental results. Based on the experimental and simulation results, the effects of turbulence, sand density, sand diameter and binder ratio were analyzed in terms of filling process, sand volume fraction(αs) and sand velocity(Vs).展开更多

The formation of sand ripples is related to flow conditions; different flow conditions cause different ripple geometries. The main aim of this study was to assess the relationship between flow intensity and two-dimensional ripple geometry characteristics. The experiments were carried out in a laboratory flume with natural sand whose bulk density Ps was 2 650 kg/m3 and median diameter D50 was 0.41 mm. The Froude number (Fr), a flow intensity parameter, varied from 0.16 to 0.53, entirely within the subcritical range. Two-dimensional sand ripple geometry was measured and processed via statistical methods. The probability distributions of ripple length and height were obtained with different flow conditions. Through dimensionless analysis, the relationship between the flow intensity parameter (grain size Reynolds number Re. ) and the sand ripple geometry characteristic length ( ∧ ) and height ( △ ) was analyzed, and two formulas were obtained: ∧/D50 = 191.76Re 0.3 and △/D50 = 1.97Re 1.3, which are consistent with previous research results.展开更多

The formation mode and soil-water interaction mechanism of the debris flows were analyzed from both macroscopic and microscopic points of view respectively using high digital imaging equipment and micro-structure analysis software Geodip. The test results indicate that the forming process of debris flow mainly consists of three stages, namely the infiltration and softening stage, the overall slide stage, and debris flow stage. The essence of simulated coarse sand slope forming debris flow is that local fluidization cause slope to wholly slide. The movement of small particles forms a transient stagnant layer with increasing saturation, causing soil shear strength lost and local fluidization. When the driving force of the saturated soil exceeds the resisting force, debris flow happens on the coarse sand slope immediately.展开更多

The crux of this work is how to model the stresses of the particle phase properly. By analysing the two-fluid model which usually, works in solving gas-particle two-phase .flow,. we find that this model has many. deficiencies for studying the sand-driven flow, even for the simplest case- the steady, two-dimensional fully-developed flow.Considering this, we have proposed the three-fluid model in which the upward particles and the downward-particles ore regarded as two kinds of fluids respectively. It is shown that the three-fluid model is better than the two-fluid model in reflecting the internal structure of the flow, region and the influence of the boundary situations on the flow. and it is advantageous to find an approximate solution in that the main components of the particle-phase stresses can be explicitly expressed by those variables in the three-fluid model. In the end, the governing equations as well as the boundary. conditions for the three-fluid model are provided with a discussion.展开更多

文摘The purpose of this paper is to study the critical sand starting velocity and transformation law of flow pattern based on gas-water-sand three-phase flow in an inclined pipe.Firstly, the indoor simulation experiment system of gas-water-sand three-phase flow was used to test the conversion law of flow pattern based upon the different gas void fraction.Secondly, the influence of slug bubbles on sand migration was investigated according to distinctive hole deviation angles, gas void fraction and sand concentration. Finally, the critical sand starting velocity was tested based on dissimilar hole deviation angles, gas void fraction, sand concentration and sand particle size, and then the influence of the abovementioned key parameters on the sand starting velocity was debated based on the force analysis of the sand particles. The experimental results illustrated that when the gas void fraction was less than 5%,it was bubbly flow. When it increased from 5%to 30%,the bubbly flow and slug flow coexisted. When it was between 30%and 50%,the slug flow and agitated flow coexisted. When it reached 50%,it was agitated flow.Providing that the hole deviation angle was 90°,the phenomenon of overall migration and wavelike migration on the surface of sand bed was observed. On the contrary, the phenomenon of rolling and jumping migration was recognized. The critical sand starting velocity was positively correlated with the hole deviation angle and sand particle size, but negatively associated with the gas void fraction and sand concentration. This research can provide a certain reference for sand-starting production in the field of petroleum engineering.

文摘The railway subgrades in the sandy areas act as an obstacle interfering wind-blown sand, causing sand erosion and sedimentation, which can disrupt the safe and stable operation of the railway system. Most previous studies mainly focus on the flow field around railway subgrades, however, the real erosion and sedimentation patterns are rarely studied. This study aims to analyze the erosion and sand sedimentation patterns of wind-blown sand over the subgrades with different heights and steel rails using the ratio of the wall shear stress to the critical value of erosion shear stress. Results show that wind erosion near the top of the upwind slope of the embankment and the shoulder on the upwind side are more severe, and the severity increases with an increase in the height of the embankment. With the increase of wind velocity, sand sedimentation both on the windward and leeside of the subgrade decreases and wind erosion by reverse flow occur. This study indicates that railways in sandy areas should be constructed with a moderate subgrade height(4 m).

文摘The flow characteristics of foundation soils subjected to train loads can present engineering hazards in highspeed railways. In order to verify the feasibility of blending coarse sand in modifying soft subsoil, undrained pulling sphere tests were carried out and the train loads were simulated through localized and cyclic vibration at various frequencies.Laboratory testing results indicate that the fl ow characteristics of soft soil can be signifi cantly enhanced by high-frequency vibration;meanwhile the continuous increase in fl ow characteristics caused by cyclic vibration may be an important reason for the long-term settlement of soft subsoil. The infl uence of sand content on fl ow characteristics is also studied in detail, and it is shown that the addition of coarse sand can weaken the fl ow characteristics of soft soil induced by sudden vibration at lower than 50 Hz.Under the condition of cyclic vibration, the growth of the fl ow characteristics of sand-clay mixtures is mainly caused by the fi rst-time vibration in the cycle, and the increase in sand content can make the fl ow characteristics present a faster convergent tendency.
文摘In hydraulics, when we deal with the problem of sand particles moving relative to the surrounding water,Stokes'formula of resistance has usually been used to render the velocity of sedimentation of the particles. But such an approach has not been proved rigorously, and its accuracy must be carefully considered. In this paper,we discuss the problem of a sphere moving in a non-uniform flow field,on the basis of the fundamental theory of hydrodynamics. We introduce two assumptions:i)the diameter of the sphere is much smaller than the linear dimension of the flow field, and ii)the velocity of the sphere relative to the surrounding water is very small.Using these two assumptions,we solve the linearized Navier-Stokes equations and equations of continuity by the method of Laplace transform, and finally we obtain a formula for the resistance acting on a sphere moving in a non-uniform flow field.

文摘Against the background of the sand-flow foundation treatment engineering of Guangzhou Zhoutouzui variable cross-section immersed tunnel, a kind of sand deposit-detecting method was devised on the basis of full-scale model test of sand-flow method. The temporal and spatial distributions of gap and chutes directly affect the sand-deposit expansion, and the expansion trend of the average sand-deposit radius accords with quadratic time-history curve.

文摘The influence of core sand properties on flow dynamics was investigated synchronously with various core sands, transparent core-box and high-speed camera. Based on the experimental and simulation results, the effects of turbulence, sand density, sand diameter and binder ratio were analyzed in terms of filling process, sand volume fraction(αs) and sand velocity(Vs).

文摘Sand ripples are common bedforms. Through dimensionless analysis, the relationship between the flow intensity parameter (grain size Reynolds number Re. ) and the sand ripple geometry characteristic length ( ∧ ) and height ( △ ) was analyzed, and two formulas were obtained: ∧/D50 = 191.76Re 0.3 and △/D50 = 1.97Re 1.3, which are consistent with previous research results.

文摘Using the self-developed visualization test apparatus, centrifuge model tests at 20 g were carried out to research the macro and microscopic formation mechanism of coarse sand debris flows. When the driving force of the saturated soil exceeds the resisting force, debris flow happens on the coarse sand slope immediately.

文摘The Singing Sand Mountain and Crescent Spring Scenic Spot in Dunhuang,Northwest China is a world-renowned desert attraction that is also an integral component of the Dunhuang UNESCO Global Geopark. This scenic area underwent a 30-year transformation,i.e.,from a severe sand risk with spring water threatened by sand burial due to dune deformation,to restoration of the original sand flow field and mitigation of the sand burial problem. The current paper summarizes the research on the intensive monitoring of the dynamic change of star dunes near the spring, observation of wind and sand flow movement, and then restoring the harmonic vibration of the sand particles(singing sand)that were previously silenced. The existing and prospective impacts of anthropogenic and natural forces on the deformation of the sand dunes are investigated by integrated methods, guiding the implementation of mitigating measures with significant ameliorative effects.Contrast to common sand control practices that aim to reduce wind speed and stop blown sands, our research highlights the importance of maintaining the natural wind flow field in stabilizing surrounding dunes. These mitigation measures consist of removing excessive vegetation and newly constructed buildings to recover the original wind flow field and sand transport activity.Such research and mitigation efforts ensure the scientific protection and restoration of the special desert landform, and contribute to the mutual enhancement of the conservation and exploitation of this desert scenic spot and similar sites.
文摘Based on well test interpretation, production performance analysis, overburden permeability and porosity test,gas-water core flooding test and high-pressure mercury injection,a quantitative correlation has been built of in-situ effective permeability with routine permeability and water saturation, and the ranges of Main Flow Channel Index(MFCI)are determined for different permeability levels in porous sand gas reservoirs.A new method to evaluate the in-situ effective permeability of porous sand reservoir and a correlation chart of reserves producing degree and main flow channel index are established. The results reveal that the main flow channel index of porous sand gas reservoirs has close correlation with routine matrix permeability and water saturation. The lower the routine matrix permeability and the higher the water saturation, the lower the MFCI is.If the routine matrix permeability is greater than 5.0×10-3,the MFCI is generally greater than 0.5.When the routine matrix permeability is from 1.0×10-3 to 5.0×10-3,the MFCI is mainly between 0.2 and 0.5.When the routine matrix permeability is less than 1.0×10-3,the MFCI is less than 0.2.The evaluation method of in-situ effective permeability can be used to evaluate newly discovered or not tested porous sand gas reservoirs quickly and identify whether there is tight sand gas.The correlation chart of reserves producing degree and main flow channel index can provide basis for recoverable reserves evaluation and well infilling, and provide technical support for formulation of reasonable technical policy of gas reservoir.
文摘The sand-driven flow is studied from the continuum viewpoint in this paper. In the end, the governing equations as well as the boundary. conditions for the three-fluid model are provided with a discussion.

文摘Large-scale sand fracturing is a necessary means in the efficient exploitation of shale gas/oil.However,in the process of fracturing operation, the sand carrying fluid and proppant easily causes scouring and wear to production strings, especially the casing perforation system, which damage the wellbore integrity and deformation to affect the subsequent fracturing. For this problem, taking the actual construction conditions and perforation technology of an oilfield in western China as an example, the structural parameters of the downhole string were measured and the wall thickness reduction model of casing perforation suitable for large-displacement sand fracturing in horizontal well section was established. With software ANSYS-FLUENT,the casing perforation erosion under the conditions of different displacements, sand content and perforation sand-passing quantity in the process of sand fracturing was simulated and calculated. The influences of three parameters on perforation erosion and expansion were analyzed and the prediction chart of the influences of three main control factors on perforation erosion and expansion was established. The perforation erosion images after fracturing construction were obtained with the downhole eagle perforation logging technology. The logging chart results were compared with the downhole eagle perforation data. The error between the established numerical simulation calculation charts and the real logging data was about 5%,indicating that the simulation charts were the valuable reference.
文摘In this paper, we are concerned with computation of a mathematical model of sand dune formation in a water of surface to incompressible out-flows in two space dimensions by using Chebyshev projection scheme. The mathematical model is formulate by coupling Navier-Stokes equations for the incompressible out-flows in 2D fluid domain and Prigozhin’s equation which describes the dynamic of sand dune in strong parameterized domain in such a way which is a subset of the fluid domain. In order to verify consistency of our approach, a relevant test problem is considered which will be compared with the numerical results given by our method.
