In order to further improve the efficiency of video compression, we introduce a perceptual characteristics of Human Visual System (HVS) to video coding, and propose a novel video coding rate control algorithm based on human visual saliency model in H.264/AVC. Firstly, we modifie Itti's saliency model. Secondly, target bits of each frame are allocated through the correlation of saliency region between the current and previous frame, and the complexity of each MB is modified through the saliency value and its Mean Absolute Difference (MAD) value. Lastly, the algorithm was implemented in JVT JM12.2. Simulation results show that, comparing with traditional rate control algorithm, the proposed one can reduce the coding bit rate and improve the reconstructed video subjective quality, especially for visual saliency region. The growing number of mobile users, as well as the diversification in types of services have resulted in increasing demands for wireless network bandwidth in recent years. Although evolving transmission techniques are able to enlarge the network capacity to some degree, they still cannot satisfy the requirements of mobile users. Meanwhile, following Moore's Law, the data processing capabilities of mobile user terminals are continuously improving. In this paper, we explore possible methods of trading strong computational power at wireless terminals for transmission efficiency of communications. Taking the specific scenario of wireless video conversation, we propose a model-based video coding scheme by learning the structures in multimedia contents. Benefiting from both strong computing capability and pre-learned model priors, only low-dimensional parameters need to be transmitted; and the intact multimedia contents can also be reconstructed at the receivers in real-time. Experiment results indicate that, compared to conventional video codecs, the proposed scheme significantly reduces the data rate with the aid of computational capability at wireless terminals. 展开更多

In traditional wireless broadcast networks,a corrupted packet must be retransmitted even if it has been lost by only one receiver.Obviously,this is not bandwidth-efficient for the receivers that already hold the retransmitted packet.Therefore,it is important to develop a method to realise efficient broadcast transmission.Network coding is a promising technique in this scenario.However,none of the proposed schemes achieves both high transmission efficiency and low computational complexity simultaneously so far.To address this problem,a novel Efficient Opportunistic Network Coding Retransmission(EONCR)scheme is proposed in this paper.This scheme employs a new packet scheduling algorithm which uses a Packet Distribution Matrix(PDM)directly to select the coded packets.The analysis and simulation results indicate that transmission efficiency of EONCR is over 0.1,more than the schemes proposed previously in some simulation conditions,and the computational overhead is reduced substantially.Hence,it has great application prospects in wireless broadcast networks,especially energyand bandwidth-limited systems such as satellite broadcast systems and Planetary Networks(PNs). 展开更多

This paper designs a wireless sensor network based on CC2530.The sensor nodes consist of multi-ranged accelerometer and CC2530,covering all the ranges of the acceleration signals which can be measured.The designed system solves the problems such as cable installation trouble of testing system,vulnerability to interference and complexity of circuit.Test results show that the designed wireless sensor network can transmit the signals that multi-ranged micro-accelerometer emits without spoilage,thus the measurement of acceleration of the covering region is completed. 展开更多

Network coding mechanisms, such as COPE, can improve network throughput effectively in Wireless Mesh Networks(WMN). While the Hybrid Wireless Mesh Protocol(HWMP) is suitable for WMN, its extension with COPE does not provide any added benefits; specifically, HWMP cannot establish paths with more coding opportunities. As a result, the advantages of network coding cannot be exploited sufficiently. This paper proposes improvements upon HWMP with a new, network Coding-Aware routing protocol(CAHWMP) for WMN. In the CAHWMP protocol, we propose a coding criterion based on data streams to devise an algorithm for actively detecting coding opportunities during path discovery. CAHWMP subsequently establishes paths using the codingaware routing metric, which can balance channel resource consumption and the gain due to sharing resources introduced by network coding. Simulation results show that CAHWMP can establish paths with more coding opportunities; as a result, it improves network performance such as network throughput. 展开更多
