Classical reliable transport protocols like Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) are not well suited for wireless sensor networks due to both the characteristics of the network nodes (low computing power, strong energy constraints) and those of the main applications running on those nodes (low data rates). Recent researches present new transport protocols for wireless sensor networks providing various type of reliability and using new mechanisms for loss detection and recovery, and congestion control. This paper presents a survey on reliable transport protocol for WSNs.展开更多

However, it is one mode of transportation that is prone to accidents and it faces a plethora of never-ending challenges, such as the frequent loss of lives and valuables when accident occurs. The best course of action to handle these issues is to set up an autonomous incident detection system using wireless communication, 5G technologies and the Internet of Things. IoT is a seamless technology that increases the connectivity between humans and machines. It is web-based, and improves communication between vehicle to vehicle, vehicle to infrastructures, transfer of data and information to predict incident occurrences through various networks and frameworks such as eCall, OneM2M and integration of mobile broadband. Additionally, internet of things is being adopted for public safety;for instance, it can speed up first responders’ response times to situations by displaying the best routes to a scene of an accident. The rapid development of 5G is happening in parallel with developments of internet of things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), and smart platforms for novel applications such as mission-critical communications. 5G is a new generation technology that operates on the Ultra High Spectrum Band UHSB. It is an innovation that uses the pedestrians-vehicle-road-cloud, and the communication between vehicle locations and temperature of high-quality connection. It is essential for intelligent transport systems because it allows for information sharing, prediction of incidences as safety is the primary concern of road transport. This review examines accident detection through 5G technology, integrated mobile broadband, and multiple inputs multiple outputs (MIMO) wireless system. Finally, we conclude by examining recent technology, challenges, present and future research trends.展开更多

Based on the MAC layer protocol, this paper analyzes the QoS in IEEE 802.11 MAC protocol framework, and proposes a new design of a Differentiation Enhanced Adaptive EDCA (enhanced distribution channel access) approach. The proposed approach adjusts the window zooming dynamically according to the collision rate in sending data frames, makes random offset, and further distinguishes the competition parameters of the data frames that have the same priority, so as to reduce the conflict among the data frames, and improve the channel utilization. Experiments with different service cases were conducted. The simulation results show that: comparing with the conventional EDCA method, the proposed approach can ensure that high priority services are sent with priority, and the overall QoS is highly improved.展开更多

A robust network condition classification algorithm using multiple end-to-end metrics and Support Vector Machine (SVM) is proposed to classify different network events and model the transition pattern of network conditions. End-to-end Quality-of-Service (QoS) mechanisms like congestion control, error control, and power control can benefit from the network condition information and react to different network situations appropriately. The proposed network condition classifica- tion algorithm uses SVM as a classifier to cluster different end-to-end metrics such as end-to-end delay, delay jitter, throughput and packet loss-rate for the UDP traffic with TCP-friendly Rate Control (TFRC), which is used for video transport. The algorithm is also flexible for classifying different numbers of states representing different levels of network events such as wireline congestion and wireless channel loss. Simulation results using network simulator 2 (ns2) showed the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.展开更多

The network stack provides error-correction code, multi-channel capability and reliable communication for a high packet reception rate as well as a basic packet-level communication interface. In outdoor tests, the packet reception rate is close to 100% within 800 ft and is reasonably good up to 1100 ft. This is made possible by using error correction code and a reliable transport layer. Our implementation also allows us to choose a fre-quency among multiple channels. By using multiple frequencies as well as a reliable transport layer, we can achieve a high packet reception rate by paying additional retransmission time when collisions increase with additional sensor nodes.展开更多
