Isatis indigotica Fo...Climate change is affecting global crop productivity, food quality, and security. However,few studies have addressed the mechanism by which elevated CO_2 may affect the growth of medicinal plants. Isatis indigotica Fortune is a widely used Chinese medicinal herb with multiple pharmacological properties. To investigate the physiological mechanism of I.indigotica response to elevated [CO_2], plants were grown at either ambient [CO_2](385 μmol mol^(-1)) or elevated [CO_2] (590 μmol mol^(-1)) in an open-top chamber (OTC)experimental facility in North China. A significant reduction in transpiration rate (T_r) and stomatal conductance (g_s) and a large increase in water-use efficiency contributed to an increase in net photosynthetic rate (Pn) under elevated [CO_2] 76 days after sowing. Leaf non-photochemical quenching (NPQ) was decreased, so that more energy was used in effective quantum yield of PSII photochemistry (Φ_(PSⅡ)) under elevated [CO_2]. High ΦPSII,meaning high electron transfer efficiency, also increased Pn. The [CO_2]-induced increase in photosynthesis significantly increased biomass by 36.8%. Amounts of metabolic compounds involved in sucrose metabolism, pyrimidine metabolism, flavonoid biosynthesis, and other processes in leaves were reduced under elevated [CO_2]. These results showed that the fertilization effect of elevated [CO_2] is conducive to increasing dry weight but not secondary metabolism in I. indigotica.展开更多

Plant genetic engineering is the technology of molecule breeding of rearrangement of inheritance materials at the level of molecule directionally, of improving plant properties and of breeding high quality and yield varieties of crops. The prominent effects of the technology on the crop ecological system are human subjective factors increasing as well as violating the nature and intensifying the conflict between human being and nature. Therefore, in plant genetic engineering, crop resources exploitation should follow certain ethic principles. During study on 16 gynecological diseases, the deficiency. In patients with pubertal uterine bleeding, ovulation is induced by acupuncture via decrease in central β-endorphin (β-EP) levels, which leads to the cure of anorexia nervosa by acupuncture via decrease in serum cortisol levels in early 1980s. These results in TCM lead to the idea that neuro-endocrine system is directly related to metabolic system which is also proved to be true in the treatment of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) with or without hyperinsulinemia by two formulas (Yu's Tonifying Ricipe and Tian Gui Recipe,TGR) respectively according to differential diagnosis in TCM. Ovulation resulted with decrease in obesity, acanthosis nigricans, serum androgen, insulin, leptin and hyperthalamic neuropeptide Y (NPY), proopiomalanocortin (POMC) levels based on scientific data from both patients and an animal modal. It suggests that metabolic network, and the incidence of obesity, hypertension, diabetes and cancers of the endometrium and breast may be reduced among patients with PCOS in their future life while these recipes being taken long period. For perimenopausal syndrome, formula Geng Nian Chun (GNC)without increase in serum estrogen levels. In aging rats, it was found that GNC increased the ER and ERmRNA expressions in the ovarian axis and the spleen accompanying with increase in central β-EP, serotonin (5-HT) and peripheral interlutin-2 (IL-2) levels in aging rats without changes of estrogen levels. These data may refer to the release of symptoms in women with postmenopausal syndome. It suggests that GNC up-regulates the fading of neuro-endocrine-immune network. Prevention, alleviation of osteoporosis, cardiovascular disease and Alzheimer disease may be expected in aging women with long period taking GNC.展开更多

The chemical constituents of the essential oil of Euonymus fortune from different areas were compared and analyzed by GC-MS.The results showed that 25 chromatographic peaks were separated and 13 chemical constituents ...The chemical constituents of the essential oil of Euonymus fortune from different areas were compared and analyzed by GC-MS.The results showed that 25 chromatographic peaks were separated and 13 chemical constituents were identified in Binyang County,Nanning City,accounting for 97.25%of the total volatile oil.Twenty nine chromatographic peaks were separated from Rong’an County,Liuzhou City,and 14 chemical constituents were identified,accounting for 89.91%of the total volatile oil.Thirty two chromatographic peaks were separated from Mengshan County,Wuzhou City,and 12 chemical constituents were identified,accounting for 92.16%of the total volatile oil.Twenty eight chromatographic peaks were separated from Rong County,Yulin City,and 11 chemical constituents were identified,accounting for 84.79%of the total volatile oil.Five of the chemical constituents of the volatile oil from the three places of origin are common to the four.They are phytol,palmitic acid,n-nonane,cumene,hexahydrofarnesyl acetone.It can be seen that the main components of volatile oil from different producing areas are different.展开更多
