This study assesses the HIV disclosure rate to intimate partners, associated factors, and outcomes among women in the PMTCT program in two large HIV clinics in Abuja, Nigeria. A descriptive cross-sectional study employed a multi-stage sampling technique in selecting 220 pregnant women enrolled in PMTCT care in two clinics. Outcomes measures include HIV status disclosure to intimate partner, women’s viral suppression status (suppressed < 1000 copies/mL, unsuppressed ≥ 1000 copies/mL), and previous MTCT experience. Exposure variables include the participant’s socio-demographic characteristics and HIV care history. Data were presented using frequency tables. Simple and multivariate logistic regression was done to ascertain the predictors of HIV status disclosure and assess the association between HIV disclosure, viral suppression, and MTCT experience at a p-value of less than 0.05. Only 205 (96.7%) entries were completed and analyzed A larger percentage of the participants were married women, 158 (77.1%), within the age group 26 - 35 years (53.3%). Women’s HIV status disclosure rate to intimate partners was 49.3% (101/205). Factors associated with HIV disclosure rate to intimate partners at the univariate level were the participant’s age, Christian religion [COR: 1.80, 95%CI: 1.04 - 3.21, p = 0.04], full employment [COR: 1.92, 95%CI: 1.10 - 3.34, p = 0.02], HIV positivity prior to PMTCT enrollment [COR: 2.88, 95%CI: 1.26 - 6.59, p < 0.01], duration on antiretroviral therapy [COR: 1.07, 95%CI: 1.01 - 1.13, p = 0.03], and knowledge of partner’s HIV status [COR: 0.20, 95%CI: 0.08 - 0.51, p < 0.01]. Only HIV positivity prior to PMTCT enrollment [AOR: 3.27, 95%CI: 1.23 - 8.70, p < 0.01] and awareness of the partner’s HIV status, [AOR: 0.17, 95%CI: 0.06 - 0.49, p < 0.01] were significant predictors of HIV status disclosure after controlling for confounder. The two study outcomes;women’s viral suppression and MTCT experience were not significantly associated with participants’ HIV status disclosure to intimate partners. Our study shows that HIV disclosure to intimate partners is still a big challenge among pregnant women in PMTCT settings in Nigeria, with awareness of the partner’s HIV status and the type of patient enrollment in the PMTCT setting being the two strong predictors of pregnant women’s HIV disclosure status to partners.展开更多

Methods A cross-sectional survey was adopted, 280 married Naxi female volunteers who aged above 20 years old were selected by cluster random sampling from the two selected villages of Lugufu Township of Yanyuan county in Sichuan. Two self-reporting scales, CES-D and SAS were used for assessment of depression and anxiety of the subjects. Results The facts of mental status of Sichuan Naxi women brook no optimism. Among 280 Naxi reproductive age women who were investigated in current study, only 74 (26.4%) have no depression symptoms, and 116 (41.4%) have no anxiety symptoms. For the study population, the average total scores (TS) of CES-D was 20.1, and the average total index scores (TIS) of SAS was 50.2, and both of them were above a minimum value doubted to have symptoms. There were big differences of both average TS of CES-D and TIS of SAS between Naxi women who have and not have RTIs. Further analysis revealed that RTI was a main risk factor influencing women's mental status (OR = 16. 043 for depression, and OR = 12.954 for anxiety). In addition, Naxi women's depression and anxiety were related to order births (≤2, OR=3.149, 95% CI: 1.228, 8.076), sex debut was younger (≤17, OR=3.043, 95% CI: 1.895, 4.884), and multiple pregnancy (≥ 3, OR=2.728, 95% CI: 1.990, 4.173), etc. Conclusion For improving Naxi women's mental status, a pressing matter of the moment is for local medical persons to gain the knowledge about mental health and the diagnosis and treatment levels of psychological disorders. At the same time, pssychological counselling should become a main activity of reproductive health services.展开更多

Background: Screening of iron deficiency before supplementation during pregnancy has been scarce. Therefore, following routine iron supplementation confounding results might be found in outcomes of groups of patients considered. Taking in account that body/serum iron status is reportedly linked to maternal oxidative status, we aimed to associate assessment of baseline iron and oxidative status of women in need of oral supplementation during pregnancy. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study concerning 74 women attending antenatal care at the University Clinics of Kinshasa from September 2017 throughout June 2018, with a singleton pregnancy not exceeding 19 weeks, regardless of age and parity. Variables of the study included sociodemographic and anthropometric ones along with parameters of iron status (hemoglobin, hematocrit, ferritin, serum iron, transferrin and iron saturation capacity). Oxidative status was assessed using superoxide dismutase (SOD) and uric acid as antioxidants, while oxidant agents were oxidized LDL and blood glucose (beside serum iron and ferritin). According to local standards anemia was defined as hemoglobin 10 g/L and pathologic serum ferritin as 15 ng/ml. For statistical calculations we used t-test, chi-square test and Pearson’s correlation test, the significance being stated at p ≤ 0.05. Results: At recruitment (15.9 ± 1.7 9 week gestational age) mean hemoglobin value of the overall study group was 10.3 ± 1.5 g/dl. Anemia was diagnosed to 39 women that represented 52.2% of the study group, most of anemic women belonging to low socioeconomic sub-group (69.2% vs 29%;P < 0.001). The majority was para 2, with average weight of 70.2 ± 14.5 Kg (P not significant between sub-groups) and BMI of 26 ± 5.2 Kg/m2 (P < 0.01). The proportion of obeses was 18.9%. The proportion of intestinal parasitosis was significantly higher among anemic women (61.5% vs 34.3%;P < 0.02) that had lower alimentary iron intake (22.8 ± 4.9 gr/day vs 31.4 ± 9.5 gr;P < 0.001). Of markers of iron status serum ferritin and iron were lower in anemic women (7.5 ± 3.9 ng/ml vs 35.7 ± 17.1 ng/ml;P < 0.001 and 52.7 ± 38.9 μg/dl vs 96.2 ± 41.8 μg/dl, respectively. Both sub-groups were similar in serum transferrin. As of markers of oxidative stress anemic women had significantly higher superoxide dismutases (SOD) (1056.4 ± 762.1 UI/L vs 682.6 ± 543.9 UI/L (P < 0.02) and oxidizedd anti LDL Ac (439.6 ± 209.5 UI/L vs 192.8 ± 136.3 UI/L (P < 0.001). Serum iron, ferritin, SOD and oxidized LDL were more likely to assess iron and oxidative status in our setting. Conclusion: The rate of anemic mothers found in our study (52.2%) has been quite constant in our setting for years, meaning endemicity. Serum iron and ferritin were significantly lower in anemic women, which is supportive of routine iron supplementation during pregnancy. Significantly higher level of SOD and oxidized LDL in anemic women suggests that maternal anemia may count into oxidative stress likely to be found in these women.展开更多

Methods: This study investigated the prevalence of nocturia, its mechanisms, and associated factors in women with lower urinary tract symptoms attending two urogynecology clinics in the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Anamnesis, physical examination, and a 24-hour bladder diary were conducted. Two definitions of nocturia were considered: one or more nighttime voids and two or more nighttime voids. Mann-Whitney and Chi-square tests were used, with p-value ≤ 0.05 considered significant. Results: A total of 133 participants were included. The majority were aged 60 years or older (61.4%) and had three or more comorbidities (66.7%), with systemic arterial hypertension being the most prevalent (59.1%). Of the total participants, 54 (41.4%) completed the bladder diary. Among those with one or more nighttime voids (70.7%), the prevalence of nocturnal polyuria was 69.1%, reduced nocturnal bladder capacity was 17.3%, and global polyuria was 12.9%. Among participants with two or more nighttime voids (56.4%), the prevalences were respectively 68.2%, 19.1%, and 13.6%. Among the mechanisms, associations were found only with global polyuria, namely: use of insulin, body mass index and tobacco consumption. An association was also found between recurrent urinary tract infection and global polyuria in participants with two or more nighttime voids. Conclusions: The prevalence of nocturia was higher than that reported in general population studies and specialized services for lower urinary tract symptoms. Nocturnal polyuria was the most prevalent mechanism. Associations were observed between the use of insulin, body mass index, tobacco consumption, and recurrent urinary tract infection with global polyuria. No associations were found between any clinical or demographic variables and nocturnal polyuria or reduced nocturnal bladder capacity.展开更多

This study aims to interpret how these environmental factors influence the age of onset, severity of symptoms such as hot flushes and night sweats, and other long-term effects of menopause. Understanding these relationships addresses a significant gap in current knowledge and could guide future public health strategies. Methods: Through a comprehensive analysis of three cross-continental studies involving 1500 postmenopausal women from Spain, South American countries (Ecuador, Panama, Chile), various climates in Türkiye (Black Sea, Mediterranean, Continental), and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), this review evaluates diverse environmental impacts. Studies were selected based on their methodological rigor, geographical diversity, and focus on the unique and personal experiences of menopause. Data was collected via questionnaires and routine medical checkups, analyzing demographic, lifestyle, mood, symptom severity, and onset age variables. Results: Preliminary analysis indicates that 52.5% of participants from Spanish-speaking countries and the UAE reported vasomotor symptoms, with those in higher temperatures and lower altitudes experiencing exacerbated symptoms. Notably, Mediterranean climates were associated with an earlier menopause onset. Seasonal changes had minimal impact across all regions, suggesting lifestyle and other environmental factors play a more significant role. Conclusions: The findings highlight a clear link between climate-related geographical factors and the menopausal experience. Women in warmer, lower-altitude regions suffer more severe symptoms, while those in Mediterranean climates face earlier onset. The absence of significant seasonal variations across the studies underscores the predominance of lifestyle and environmental factors over purely climatic conditions. These insights pave the way for targeted interventions and support the need for further public health research into the complex interactions between climate change and menopause.展开更多

文摘The development of women’s higher education in China can be divided into four stages:emergence(1908-1948);foundation(1949-1976);accelerating development(1977-2008);and the qualitative leap(2009-2020).This work considers the principal institutional mechanisms that contributed to this development.First, flexibly planned parenthood gradually promoted gender equality and openness in society facilitated by systematic“awards, grants, and loans”initiatives to support women’s higher education economically.Second, compulsory education ensured that left-out and migrant children had access to higher education.Third, effective connectivity across different education types bridged education gaps between those with different levels of education.Fourth,China made great efforts to invite and integrate international experiences that promoted the development of women’s higher education.Looking beyond these achievements,we also discuss the future trends of women’s higher education in China.
文摘HIV status disclosure to partners is critical in improving the health and well-being of mother-infant dyad in the prevention of HIV transmission from mother to child (PMTCT) program. Our study shows that HIV disclosure to intimate partners is still a big challenge among pregnant women in PMTCT settings in Nigeria, with awareness of the partner’s HIV status and the type of patient enrollment in the PMTCT setting being the two strong predictors of pregnant women’s HIV disclosure status to partners.

文摘Objectives 1) To explore the relationship between RTIs and mental status of Naxi women; 2) to compare the differences of depression & anxiety between Naxi women who have and not have RTIs; and 3) to put forward some suggestions for improving Naxi women's reproductive health in psychological point of view. At the same time, pssychological counselling should become a main activity of reproductive health services.
文摘Objective: To determine baseline iron and oxidative status in a cohort of pregnant women before iron supplementation in our setting. Significantly higher level of SOD and oxidized LDL in anemic women suggests that maternal anemia may count into oxidative stress likely to be found in these women.

文摘With the gradual improvement of Chinese women’s status in the 21st century, gender studies and gender relations have become one of the hottest topics in Chinese society, which consequently prompted Chinese Women’s Cinema to attract the attention of larger audiences. With regard to the box office performance of Chinese Women’s Cinema, there seems to be a gap in research in finding an association between women’s status and the relevant films’box office performance. The purpose of this research is to outline the underlying reasons for the changes in gender roles and gender representation in the Chinese film industry over the past few decades in order to better understand this expansive social change in the 21st century. This study provides a comprehensive analysis through the use of questionnaires to better understand society’s attitude towards gender representation within the film industry. The questionnaire findings indicate that there is a direct correlation between people’s awareness of women’s changing status and gender equality and their acceptance of materials produced by Chinese Women’s Cinema. At the some time,it highlights that the Chinese government’s support and initiatives for gender equality have had a significant impact on the general popularity of Chinese Women’s Cinema. The significance of this research is to effectively popularize Chinese Women’s Cinema culture and the box office growth by understanding the social attitude towards gender representation in the Chinese film industry and to provide relevant information about the development direction and trend of Chinese Women’s Cinema.Furthermore, this research aims to provide foundational support for gender equality and help to understand the underlying factors that society needs to promote gender equality.
文摘Gender discrimination has long been the problem that exists in the entire world, including China. However,as more and more people are focusing on the general gender discrimination, the group recognized an extension of such discrimination-pregnancy discrimination in job hiring(the discrimination that women who are pregnant or have the inclination to pregnancy receive in hiring). The possible subtle pregnancy discrimination may be one of the main causes that lead to the declining fertility rate in China. The group decided to conduct an experiment to determine whether women are receiving more subtle discrimination in job hiring due to their identity as mother than men with children, men without children, and women without children.Using the form of questionary and resumes, the team found that Chinese women are indeed enduring subtle discrimination in work hiring. The experiment highlights the importance to promote further equality among women. However, there are some confounding variables, like the level of patient of the HR who reads the resume, affecting the ultimate result of the study. Keywords:gender discrimination, women’s career,Chinese job market, pregnancy discrimination, fertility rate in China.
文摘Introduction: Nocturia has a multifactorial etiology, and its diagnostic approach involves, in addition to medical history and physical examination, the use of a bladder diary to define the pathophysiological mechanisms present in each case. No associations were found between any clinical or demographic variables and nocturnal polyuria or reduced nocturnal bladder capacity.

文摘BACKGROUND Previous observational studies have shown that the prevalence of gastroesophageal reflux disease(GERD)and Barrett’s esophagus(BE)is associated with socioeconomic status. However, due to the methodological limitations of traditional observational studies,it is challenging to definitively establish causality.AIM To explore the causal relationship between the prevalence of these conditions and socioeconomic status using Mendelian randomization(MR).METHODS We initially screened single nucleotide polymorphisms(SNPs)to serve as proxies for eight socioeconomic status phenotypes for univariate MR analysis. The inverse variance weighted(IVW)method was used as the primary analytical method to estimate the causal relationship between the eight socioeconomic status phenotypes and the risk of GERD and BE.We then collected combinations of SNPs as composite proxies for the eight socioeconomic phenotypes to perform multivariate MR(MVMR)analyses based on the IVW MVMR model.Furthermore,a two-step MR mediation analysis was used to examine the potential mediation of the associations by body mass index, major depressive disorder(MDD),smoking, alcohol consumption, and sleep duration.RESULTS The study identified three socioeconomic statuses that had a significant impact on GERD.These included household income[odds ratio(OR):0.46;95% confidence interval(95%CI):0.31-0.70],education attainment(OR:0.23;95%CI:0.18-0.29),and the Townsend Deprivation Index at recruitment(OR:1.57;95%CI:1.04-2.37).These factors were found to independently and predominantly influence the genetic causal effect of GERD.Furthermore, the mediating effect of educational attainment on GERD was found to be mediated by MDD(proportion mediated:10.83%).Similarly,the effect of educational attainment on BE was mediated by MDD(proportion mediated:10.58%)and the number of cigarettes smoked per day(proportion mediated:3.50%).Additionally,the mediating effect of household income on GERD was observed to be mediated by sleep duration(proportion mediated:9.75%)CONCLUSION This MR study shed light on the link between socioeconomic status and GERD or BE,providing insights for the prevention of esophageal cancer and precancerous lesions.

文摘An authoritative parenting style has been shown to promote children’s emotion regulation in European-American family studies. However, little is known about how sleep problems and the child’s sibling status in Chinese families affect this relationship.Based on family system theory, this study attempts to better understand the relationship between authoritative parenting style and emotion regulation.Mothers of preschool children in Chinese kindergartens completed questionnaires about their children’s sleep habits, their authoritative parenting styles, and children’s emotion regulation.A total of 531 children participated in this study. Results showed that authoritative parenting was positively associated with emotional regulation.Sleep problems mediated the effects of authoritative parenting style on emotion regulation. The child’s sibling status moderated the mediating effects of sleep problems in authoritative parenting and emotion regulation relationships.Specifically, the relationship between the authoritative parenting style and sleep problems was significant for only children, while birth order had no significant influence on the authoritative parenting style and sleep problems in two-child families. These findings suggest that a lowauthoritative parenting style predicts low emotion regulation through sleep problems, and this depends on the child’s sibling status, indicating that children without siblings may impair emotion regulation due to increased sleep problems.
文摘Objective: This systematic review investigates the impact of climate change on menopause, focusing on the correlation between geographical location—considering altitude, temperature, humidity, and annual temperature range—and women’s menopausal experiences. These insights pave the way for targeted interventions and support the need for further public health research into the complex interactions between climate change and menopause.
