Evaluation of the Impact of Presence Lighting and Digital Speed Limit Trailers on Interstate Speeds in Indiana Work Zones 被引量:3

Work zone safety continues to be one of the important focus areas for transportation agencies. Previous studies have identified that vehicle speed and lighting conditions are significant risk factors impacting work zone safety. </span><span style="font-family:Verdana;">This study evaluated the impact of the use of presence lighting and digital </span><span style="font-family:Verdana;">speed limit trailers on nighttime motorist speeds using commercially available connected vehicle speed data. Geospatial analysis was conducted on over 500,000 connected vehicle records to linear reference nearly 18,000 records from 195 unique trajectories to study section during the study period of 2 days. Results showed that median speeds reduced by 4 to 13 mph from 11PM to 7AM during the deployment of presence lighting and speed limit trailers </span><span style="font-family:Verdana;">compared to base conditions. A Kolmogorov-Smirnov (KS) statistical test</span><span style="font-family:Verdana;"> com</span><span style="font-family:Verdana;">paring 105 vehicles traveling through the construction zone with presence</span><span style="font-family:Verdana;"> lighting and speed limit trailers with a group of 90 vehicles during base condition indicated the speeds during the deployment of presence lighting and speed limit trailers were lower than the base condition. Also, increased compliance with the 55 mph speed limit was observed when the presence lighting and digital speed limit trailers were deployed. However, there were two hours (3AM to 5AM) where speeds increased by 0</span></span><span style="font-family:""> </span><span style="font-family:Verdana;">-</span><span style="font-family:""> </span><span style="font-family:Verdana;">4 mph, perhaps due to the low volume at that hour. The encouraging results support the further deployment of presence lighting and speed limit trailers in nighttime construction zones for reducing vehicle speeds. Those future deployments should be monitored with connected vehicle speeds to collect additional data to broaden the evaluation of these speed mitigation techniques over a diverse set of construction zone activities. 展开更多

Seedbed conditions and related problems have recently attracted considerable interest for research. The intensity of the soil compaction achieved because of tillage is related to the working speed of the implement used. The effect of working speed on indices used for the evaluation of seedbed preparation (index of soil texture, actual tillage depth, soil bulk density and the proposed index of leveling) were investigated by applying four different systems of tillage and using different tillage implements. The relationships of the indices investigated to working speed are also presented graphically for all tillage implements used. All relationships were found to be linear with the working speed and the corresponding coefficients of determination were very close to unity. Useful conclusions, which may be used by extension services for the selection of the proper working speed of the implements used for seedbed preparation, are reached. Finally the general conclusion is that reciprocating harrows may be introduced into energetic tillage systems for seedbed preparation. 展开更多

The main objective of this work was to use reline deep eutectic solvent,containing Al(III)ions,for the electrochemical study of the nucleation and growth of aluminum onto a glassy carbon electrode at different temperatures and angular speeds(ω)of the working electrode.In order to fulfill this,electrochemical and surface characterization techniques were used.It was found that as temperature increased,the onset of the Al(III)DES reduction occurred at less negative potentials while the current peak of the voltammograms increased.These indicate that Al deposition thermodynamics and kinetics were favored.Practically,no anodic current was detected due to Al passivation by Al(OH)_(3)(s)andγ-Al_(2)O_(3)(s).Atω=0 r/min,the Al deposition chronoamperograms were analyzed by a theoretical model comprising Al 3D diffusion-controlled nucleation and growth and residual water reduction.However,those recorded at different angular speeds were analyzed with a theoretical model where adsorption−desorption and diffusion-controlled nucleation−growth occurred simultaneously.The deposits were characterized by SEM,EDX,XPS and XRD.Atω=0 r/min,formation of well distributed nanoparticles((78.1±9.5)nm)was observed,while atω=900 r/min the deposit was formed by multiple 10μm diameter leaf-like flat microstructures,composed by Al,Al(OH)_(3)(s)andγ-A2O3(s). 展开更多

Speeding in a work zone needs to be tackled effectively to enhance work zone safety. This study evaluates the influence of three different work zone signs—speed photo enforced signs, dynamic speed display signs and reduced speed limit signs—on driver speeding behavior using a medium-fidelity driving simulator. The speed photo enforced and reduced speed limit signs were placed at intervals before the start of the work zone and in the work zone. A virtual work zone network was built to replicate the Baltimore–Washington Parkway(MD-295). A total of 66 participants from different socioeconomic backgrounds participated in 264 driving simulation sessions. The speeds were measured over four phases: initial speed area, sign visible area, sign readable area and post sign area. An analysis of variance and post hoc analysis showed that the speed photo enforced sign was the most effective of the three signs. The second speed photo enforced sign within the work zone was more effective at reducing speed than the sign before the start of the work zone, especially in the post sign area. It was observed that female participants tend to slow down more when encountering a speed photo enforcement sign. 展开更多

This study used connected vehicle data to evaluate the spatial and temporal impact that regulatory signs, speed feedback displays, and construction site geometry had on vehicle speed. Over 27,000 unique trips over 2 weeks on a 15-mile interstate construction work zone near Lebanon, IN were analyzed. In this study,we focused on a novel parallel mechanism for utilizing the motion simulator of a high-speed boat(HSB).First,we expressed the real behavior of the HSB based on a seakeeping trial.For this purpose,we recorded the motion parameters of the HSB by gyroscope and accelerometer sensors,while using a special data acquisition technique.Additionally,a Chebychev highpass filter was applied as a noise filter to the accelerometer sensor.Then,a novel 3 degrees of freedom(DoF)parallel mechanism(1T2R)with prismatic actuators is proposed and analyses were performed on its inverse kinematics,velocity,and acceleration.Finally,the inverse dynamic analysis is presented by the principle of virtual work,and the validation of the analytical equations was compared by the ADAMS simulation software package.Additionally,according to the recorded experimental data of the HSB,the feasibility of the proposed novel parallel mechanism motion simulator of the HSB,as well as the necessity of using of the washout filters,was explored. 展开更多

Traffic Flow Characteristics in Work Zone and Non-Work Zone Environment and Its Impact on Road Crashes at the Segment Level

This study investigates relationships between congestion and travel time performance metrics and crashes on road segments. The study focuses on work zone routes in Iowa, utilizing 2021 commercially-available probe vehicle data and crash data. Travel time performance metrics were derived from the probe vehicle data, and crash counts were obtained from the crash data. Additional variables included road characteristics (traffic volume, road type, segment length) and a categorical variable for the presence of a work zone. A mixed effect linear regression model was employed to identify relationships between road segment crash counts and the selected performance metrics. This was accomplished for two sets of models that include congestion performance measures at different defining threshold values, along with travel time performance measures. The study results indicate that the congestion indicators, certain travel time performance measures, and traffic counts were statistically significant and positively correlated with crash counts. Indicator variables for rural interstate locations and non-active work zones have a stronger influence on crash count than those for municipal interstate locations and active work zones. These findings can inform decision-makers on work zone safety strategies and crash mitigation planning, especially in high traffic volume areas prone to congestion and queues. 展开更多

On the basis of deep investigation of locomotive traction gears manufactured at home and abroad , a variety of measures are putted forward to improve the driving load-bearing capacity and working life of our country's high-speed locomotive traction gears. The measures include the fol- lowing five aspects : optimally selecting the material and heat treatment process , optimally designing the tooth profile . reasonably choosing the manufacture accuracy and technique , optimally choosing the lubricant and the way of lubrication and seal , improving the dynamic feature of the gearing. In the respect of the tooth profile , a hob with optimal cutter angles is designed to make root thickness on the dangerous section as large as possible and the stress concentration as small as possible. Ad- dendum modification coefficient is optimized to minimize the maximum flash temperature in the course of meshing. Finally . finite element analysis method is used to calculate the deformation and the stress of teeth accurately. 针对轴向柱塞泵在高压和高速工况下发热过快的问题,对柱塞泵热特性和热力学建模进行了仿真分析与实验研究。首先,在摩擦副发热理论基础上,考虑了泵内油液搅动摩擦与轴承摩擦发热源,研究了柱塞泵内发热机理和传热分析的热特性理论;然后,... 针对轴向柱塞泵在高压和高速工况下发热过快的问题,对柱塞泵热特性和热力学建模进行了仿真分析与实验研究。首先,在摩擦副发热理论基础上,考虑了泵内油液搅动摩擦与轴承摩擦发热源,研究了柱塞泵内发热机理和传热分析的热特性理论;然后,根据柱塞泵部件复杂和固流态域区分度高的特点,阐述了所采用的控制体积法原理,将泵划分为5个控制体积后,建立了以各个控制体温度变化为导向的热力学模型;最后,采用光纤光栅温度传感器和蓝牙无线温度传感器,针对不同的控制体节点设计了传感器封装结构和布置方法,共同组成了轴向柱塞泵在线热监测系统,并进行了在不同压力条件下的对照实验,对理论模型进行了有效性验证与分析。研究结果表明:对比实验和仿真结果,模型温度变化与实际误差值在5%左右,验证了该模型能准确地反映和预测泵热力学变化过程。该结果为柱塞泵热力学状态监测提供了故障诊断基础,并为液压系统热管理系统设计提供了理论基础和设计依据。 展开更多

摆线针轮减速器组成零部件繁多、构成复杂,工作时噪声干扰大且多在变转速、往复的复杂工况下工作,因此,难以准确提取其内部的故障特征。针对这一问题,提出了一种基于集合经验模态分解(EEMD)与阶次跟踪分析的方法,对摆线针轮减速器进行... 摆线针轮减速器组成零部件繁多、构成复杂,工作时噪声干扰大且多在变转速、往复的复杂工况下工作,因此,难以准确提取其内部的故障特征。针对这一问题,提出了一种基于集合经验模态分解(EEMD)与阶次跟踪分析的方法,对摆线针轮减速器进行了故障诊断。首先,对采集到的时域振动信号和转速信号进行了等角度域差值采样,得到了振动信号的等角域平稳信号;然后,对等角域信号进行了集合经验模态分解,得到了若干个固有模态分量(IMFs),计算了各个固有模态分量的峭度值,选取目标模态分量进行了信号重构;接着,采用快速傅里叶变换得到了故障信号的阶次图;最后,根据减速器的传动方式、各零部件的模数,计算出了各主要部件的故障阶次,对比减速器在故障前后阶次图的能量峰值进行了故障诊断。研究结果表明:该方法能够准确提取包含故障信息的固有模态分量,实现从等时域信号到等角域信号的转换,并提取摆线针轮减速器的滚针故障阶次(8.37阶),故障准确率达到99.6%,可实现摆线针轮减速器在非平稳工况下的故障特征识别,并验证该方法的可行性和有效性。 展开更多

针对高压大排量径向柱塞泵滑靴副摩擦失效和泄漏问题,以XDP1000型径向柱塞泵为例,对滑靴副温度分布与泄漏量进行了流场仿真和数值计算。首先,根据滑靴柱塞组件运动学特性分析,求解了滑靴偏转角变化规律,并通过建立滑靴副不同通道流量计... 针对高压大排量径向柱塞泵滑靴副摩擦失效和泄漏问题,以XDP1000型径向柱塞泵为例,对滑靴副温度分布与泄漏量进行了流场仿真和数值计算。首先,根据滑靴柱塞组件运动学特性分析,求解了滑靴偏转角变化规律,并通过建立滑靴副不同通道流量计算公式的方式,建立了滑靴副静压支承特性方程;然后,建立了滑靴副泄漏功率损失和摩擦功率损失模型,求解了滑靴副最佳油膜厚度,并分析了最佳油膜厚度的变化规律;最后,在考虑了油液黏温黏压特性的基础上,通过流场数值计算的方式,研究了滑靴副温度分布与泄漏量随径向柱塞泵工况参数的变化规律。研究结果表明:额定工况下,滑靴副最佳油膜厚度值约为14μm,滑靴副最佳油膜厚度值随着转子转角的增大而增大,随着工作压力和温度的增大而减小;滑靴运动方向侧油膜温度较另一侧高13 K,滑靴副温度值基本不受工作压力的影响,而随着转速的增大而升高;滑靴副阻尼孔泄漏量较滑靴边界泄漏量大0.02 kg/s,而且泄漏量随着压力、转速和油液温度的增大而增大。该研究结论可为高压大排量径向柱塞泵滑靴副设计及优化提供参考。 展开更多

由于齿轮箱振动信号在变转速工况下出现的调频、调幅等现象,使得信号征兆与故障模式之间的映射关系变得复杂,导致齿轮箱故障难以精确诊断。鉴于深度神经网络在自动提取数据特征和分类上的优势,提出一种基于无阈值递归图编码(Un-threshol... 由于齿轮箱振动信号在变转速工况下出现的调频、调幅等现象,使得信号征兆与故障模式之间的映射关系变得复杂,导致齿轮箱故障难以精确诊断。鉴于深度神经网络在自动提取数据特征和分类上的优势,提出一种基于无阈值递归图编码(Un-threshold Recurrence Plot,URP)和自适应归一化卷积神经网络(Adaptive Normalized Convolutional Neural Network,ANCNN)的变转速工况齿轮箱故障诊断方法。该方法先使用快速傅里叶变换(Fast Fourier Transform,FFT)将时域信号转化为频域信号,再利用URP编码将得到的频域信号转化为二维递归图,并提取图像特征输入到ANCNN模型。在ANCNN模型中,采用批量归一化算法消除因转速变化引起的特征分布差异,同时处理转速波动下产生的频移和调制特性,并使用遗传算法自动调整该网络模型的超参数,以提高该网络的整体性能。采用转速波动的齿轮箱试验数据对该方法进行验证,实验结果表明,该方法能够克服转速波动的影响,成功实现对不同齿轮故障的准确识别。 展开更多
