Comparative study of cancer profiles between 2020 and 2022 using global cancer statistics(GLOBOCAN)

Background:The International Agency for Research on Cancer(IARC)released the latest estimates of the global burden of cancer.We present a comparison of cancer profiles between 2020 and 2022,leveraging data from the Global Cancer Statistics(GLOBOCAN).Methods:Cancer incidence and mortality data were sourced from two different years,2020 and 2022,in the GLOBOCAN database.We tracked changes in age-standardized incidence and mortality rates,as well as estimated numbers of new cancer cases and deaths of the 15 most common cancer types globally and in China between 2020 and 2022.Additionally,we conducted comparisons to assess alterations in the cancer burden and variations in mortality-to-incidence ratio(MIR)across different regions and countries for both 2020 and 2022.Results:Lung cancer remained the most common cancer and the leading cause of cancer death worldwide.The new cases of thyroid cancer witnessed a sharp increase in 2022.Conversely,the numbers of new cancer cases and deaths from stomach and esophageal cancer decreased significantly in 2022.The geographic distribution of cancer incidence and mortality across six continents in 2022 largely mirrored that of 2020.Higher Human Development Index(HDI)levels in countries corresponded with elevated rates of cancer incidence and mortality,consistent with the previous year.Among 185 countries or territories,China’s age-standardized incidence rate(ASIR)ranked 64th and its age-standardized mortality rate(ASMR)ranked 68th,aligning with global averages.Lung cancer continued to impose the greatest burden of incidence and mortality.Stomach,breast,and esophageal cancers showed declines in both case counts and ASIR.Noteworthy reductions in both ASMR and absolute mortality numbers were observed in liver,stomach,and esophageal cancers.The global MIR decreased from 0.516 in 2020 to 0.488 in 2022.MIR trends indicated an upward trajectory with decreasing HDI levels in both 2022 and 2020.While Canada,Germany,India,Italy,Japan,and the United Kingdom demonstrated increasing MIRs,China exhibited the most significant decrease,followed by Russia and the United States.Conclusions:The global landscape of cancer incidence and mortality in 2022 reflects ongoing trends observed in 2020.Cancer burdens vary notably across countries with differing socioeconomic statuses.Decreases in stomach,liver,and esophageal cancer cases and deaths signify progress in cancer control efforts.The decrease in the global MIRs highlights potential improvements in cancer management. 展开更多

A modified Benes network is proposed to be used as an optimal shuffle network in worldwide interoperability for microwave access (WiMAX) low density parity check (LDPC) decoders, When the size of the input is not a power of two, the modified Benes network can achieve the most optimal performance. This modified Benes network is non-blocking and can perform any sorts of permutations, so it can support 19 modes specified in the WiMAX system. Furthermore, an efficient algorithm to generate the control signals for all the 2 × 2 switches in this network is derived, which can reduce the hardware complexity and overall latency of the modified Benes network. Synthesis results show that the proposed control signal generator can save 25.4% chip area and the overall network latency can be reduced by 36. 2%. 展开更多

Stroke is the leading cause of long-term disability worldwide.There are two main types of stroke,hemorrhagic and ischemic.A hemorrhagic stroke is when there a bleed in the brain,whereas an ischemic stroke is the result of blockage of blood flow to the brain,which leads to degeneration,neurotoxicity,inflammation,and apoptosis.This damage not only affects the ischemic core,but also neuronal,astrocyte,and synaptic survival in the peri-infarct region and connected areas(Kerr et al.,2011;Jadavji et al.,2018).The prevalence of ischemic stroke is predicted to increase as the global population ages(Mukherjee and Patil,2011).Between 1970 and 2008 there has been a 100%increase in stroke incidence in low income countries.For example,the estimated losses in gross domestic product,as the result of vascular diseases,including stroke,have ranged from$20 million in Ethiopia to$1 billion in China and India(Mukherjee and Patil,2011). 展开更多

AIM: To review previous studies(the last 6 years) about the Helicobacter pylori(H. pylori) antibiotic resistance in order to evaluate the trend in antibiotic resistance. METHODS: In this study, the Pub Med, MEDLINE, Science Direct, Google Scholar and Scielo manuscripts were reviewed from 2009 to 2014. RESULTS: On the whole rates of H. pylori antibiotic resistance were 47.22%(30.5%-75.02%) for metronidazole, 19.74%(5.46%-30.8%) for clarithromycin, 18.94%(14.19%-25.28%) for levofloxacin, and 14.67%(2%-40.87%) for amoxicillin, 11.70%(0%-50%) for tetracycline, 11.5%(0%-23%) for furazolidon and 6.75%(1%-12.45%) for rifabutin. The frequency of tetracycline, metronidazole and amoxicillin resistance was higher in Africa, while clarithromycin and levofloxacin resistance was higher in North America and Asian, respectively. CONCLUSION: The most sensitive drug is rifabutin and the lowest sensitive drug is metronidazole in the world. The worldwide H. pylori antibiotic resistance to clarithromycin and levofloxacin has increased during the last 6 years. The present systematic review show alarming results and a novel plan is needed for eradication therapy of H. pylori infections. 展开更多

China, unfortunately, locates in the highest-risk area (often referred to as the “esophageal cancer belt”) spanning from northern Iran through the Central Asian republics and into northern China. The high prevalence areas spread from south to north in China. In the highest prevalence areas, the crude incidence of esophageal cancer can even reach more than 100/100,000, nearly 7 times that of the whole country. More than 210,000 patients die from esophageal cancer in China every year, accounting for half of the esophageal cancer-related death worldwide. The expanded Wilson cycle presented in this paper introduces the evolution sequences of continental lithospheric processes by adding into the classical Wilson cycle with ocean-continent transition, continental collision and accretion, as well as continental rifting and splitting in details. In this study, the reasons for mass extinction in Jurassic were investigated. It was shown that galactic compression led to the activation of terrestrial nuclear reactors, which in turn led to the changes in tectonic activity, volcano eruptions, LIPs, MORBs, paleoclimate change, drift of continents, narrowing of the Earth, worldwide floods, tsunami, changes in mantle and core structures, in magnetic fields and in sedimentary isotopes. It was shown that the mass extinctions occurred during worldwide floods, caused by the narrowing of the Earth at the time of galactic gravitational compression. It was shown that the average statistical altitude distribution of dinosaurs has a bimodal distribution and corresponds to permanent migrations between the plains and the hills. It has been suggested that the skeletons of dinosaurs are well preserved as a result of covering the bodies of dinosaurs with mud flows of coastal sediments and the soil layers at worldwide tsunami. It was formulated the requirement to paleontology, consisting in the obligatory registration of altitudes of the actual place of the fossils found. The simple explanation of the presence of boundaries in the structure of the Earth is given: the 40K nuclear layer corresponds to the boundary between upper and lower mantle;the 137Cs layer located on the boundary between the lower mantle and the outer core;the Th-U nuclear layer is a border between outer and inner core. The previously abstract theories of subduction and continents drift have a clear and obvious physical sense. It was shown that the standard geological table is a registration book of galactic events during Paleozoic. It is proposed to restore the structure of the galactic arms by the geological deposits on the Earth. It was suggested to create the stations on elevated hills for rescue and regeneration of biological forms in the future. 展开更多

For individuals who are contemplating relocating, how their income will be taxed might be an important factor when deciding whether or not to take up residence in another country. Two income approaches are commonly used around the globe. Worldwide income approach (also known as a global tax system) taxes income from whatever source derived. Territorial income approach taxes only income earned within the country's borders. Using information collected from PricewaterhouseCoopers' website1 that provides information on tax systems used in countries around the world, this paper examines which countries apply worldwide or global income approach and which employ territorial approach to determine the legitimate source of taxable income. The research focuses on countries within: (1) Americas; (2) Asia/Pacific Basin; (3) Europe; and (4) Africa/Middle and Near East. Based on the information collected and presented in this paper, the worldwide approach is much more prevalent (104 countries) than the territorial approach (30 countries). This paper also investigates any specific rules that a particular country has in relation to income to be taxed and residency versus non-residency status of the taxpayers. There appears to be an abundant spectrum of rules relating to residency and domicile for tax purposes among the countries. 展开更多

A state of the art ultra-low power small sized transceiver design has been proposed.This device consists of four blocks,including a frequency synthesizer(FS),a crystal oscillator(XO),transmitter and receiver attached with an antenna.It has been seen that wireless information technology and systems have played a vital role in the transformation of society in different aspects of life.Mobile wireless communications including WiMAX/4G have attracted researchers and developers.WiMAX/4G applications need a transceiver that can be used in the worst channel conditions,but with low power consumption and low input voltage at the 5.8 GHz frequency.The proposed transceiver operates on 1.2 V.The operating frequency,noise figure(NF)and receiver gain are 5.8 GHz,4.0 dB and 90 dB respectively.It is a highly compatible transceiver with all the 4G technologies.Implementation details and results have revealed that the proposed transceiver is much more efficient than the previously proposed transceivers in literature. 展开更多

Chinese medicine is one of the treasures of Chinese intellectual contributions to mankind.The character⁃istics that distinguish Chinese medicine from conventional Western medicine find its roots in the philosophical(Daoism)concepts of organizing principles to understand the body,health and disease.Key for worldwide acceptance of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)is the ability to provide scientific evidence in combination with a quality control system based on the bioactive ingredients.Plant quality in relationship to a bioactivity approach is described that is comprised of a variety of novel approaches based on Systems Biology to tackle these issues.Modern scientific technology tools are now avail⁃able to accomplish standardization of TCM products in order to achieve a high level of efficacy and safety,enhancing the introduction into the international markets.The complexity of the many ingredients and the aspect of synergistic bioactivi⁃ties in TCM,limited the analysis for quality control so far only to the major components for each herb and did not provide evidence for a direct relationship with bioactive components.The systems Biology approach,a multi dimensional chemical and pharmacological approach enables linking of the complex metabolic profile of herbs with biological effects and is therefore a key for quality control of TCM material medica,while providing simultaneous scientific evidence for the under⁃lying efficacy and worldwide acceptance of TCM products.Furthermore,a concept of a business gateway comprising several key steps to unlock the business potential of TCM on Western markets will be presented,including the role of European pharmacopeia as well as community mono⁃graphs of the European Medicinal Agency. 展开更多
