The United States has numerous social-cultural issues affecting its population.One of these problems is white supremacy.This concept refers to a racist perception that white persons are naturally superior to individua...The United States has numerous social-cultural issues affecting its population.One of these problems is white supremacy.This concept refers to a racist perception that white persons are naturally superior to individuals of other races and should thus dominate them.While white supremacy in previous centuries galvanized a lot of support among white people,the concept is now regarded vicious by white,African American,Latino as well as other races.The modern American society is structured under cultural sensitiveness,racial equality,and religious tolerance.Unlike the years of slavery or reconstruction,all citizens in the United States are afforded equal rights irrespective of their cultural identities.Nevertheless,white supremacist notions persist in a nation that prides itself for its democratic model,cultural diversity,religious tolerance and socioeconomic transcendence.The state of white supremacy is that America can be manifested by violence,imperialistic tendencies,discrimination in the society,unfair immigration policies,poor political leadership,and the deplorable role of the media.With the growing number of atrocities being committed around the United States by both members of identified and non-identified white supremacist group,it is time to address this issue together.This paper,is a constructive discussion venting the many ills of racial discrimination in every aspect that affects minorities at all spheres of the society and the deplorable state of white supremacy in America.展开更多
The South African higher education system is one of the most diverse systems in Africa with a high percentage of international students.Yet,there are many factors that create discrimination against these individuals a...The South African higher education system is one of the most diverse systems in Africa with a high percentage of international students.Yet,there are many factors that create discrimination against these individuals and those who would aspire to further their education in South Africa.The diversity found within universities creates an environment where all different opinions can be heard which allows for vibrant discussion among classmates and professors alike.Unfortunately,this lack of representation also has its downsides as some schools do not have enough resources or staff members dedicated specifically to foreign student needs leaving them feeling marginalized on campus.This research contributes to the theoretical understanding of factors affecting the discrimination of international students in South Africa.It also improves our empirical knowledge of two major factors:lack of familiarity with backgrounds outside one’s own culture or country as well as religious differences within communities which may lead to biases based on religion rather than other qualities such as appearance or language fluency;but it remains unclear if these disparities exist due to prejudices held by individuals at school for reasons unrelated to racism(though cultural difference already increases exclusion).展开更多

Morocco currently occupies a curious position as both a country of transit and a country of installation for migrants originating from Sub-Saharan countries.Even though the new migration policy reform has provided mig...Morocco currently occupies a curious position as both a country of transit and a country of installation for migrants originating from Sub-Saharan countries.Even though the new migration policy reform has provided migrants with some new rights,public opinion is still unready to shape and reshape their perceptions of’black’African migrants.The situation of those migrants has grabbed media attention,especially in newspapers;hundreds of articles and reports have been written in newspapers,criticising or denouncing the phenomenon.Although the currently available body research has tended to neglect the linguistic ways in which such media convey meaning along the side of their use of images,little attention has been paid to language-based media.As such,this paper scrutinises(i)the depiction of Sub-Saharan migrants in Moroccan print newspapers headlines before and after the migration reform,and(ii)it considers how reports on‘black’African migrants in Morocco may lead to propagating stereotypical acts and xenophobia towards this category.The study examines the topics covered and reveals the patterns used in the coverage of related topics,such as illegality and violence,before and after the new migration policy in 2013.With these objectives in mind,this study is based on qualitative data of news items and reports from the two daily printed newspapers,Assabah and Almassae.Relying on Critical Discourse Analysis and Content Analysis has demonstrated an overgeneralisation of Sub-Saharan migrants in news headlines in general.The results also show a dramatic change in the thematic coverage during the selected period.展开更多
