Does enrolling children aged 0-3 in early childhood education(ECE)classes continuously empower their learning and development after entering kindergarten?Based on the tracking survey data of 664 children aged 3-6 in 2...Does enrolling children aged 0-3 in early childhood education(ECE)classes continuously empower their learning and development after entering kindergarten?Based on the tracking survey data of 664 children aged 3-6 in 2017 and 367 children aged 3-6 in 2018,this study uses Propensity Score Matching to analyze this issue.The findings reveal that children’s family socioeconomic status is a key factor influencing their participation in ECE classes.The baseline data show that participation in ECE classes does not significantly improve children’s learning and development.However,the follow-up data show that participation in ECE classes plays a significant negative role in motor development for children moving to their second year of kindergarten,but subsequently plays a positive role in language development,health,and safety for those entering their third year of kindergarten.Overall,participation in ECE classes plays no continuous positive role in children’s learning and development after they enter kindergarten.Based on these findings,it is suggested that parents should respect the natural laws of child development instead of blindly following the trend of attending ECE classes,and high-quality parental companionship is crucial.The Chinese government is supposed to implement policies such as“double reduction”to regulate ECE institutions that fail to operate in good faith.展开更多

Accurate rock elastic property determination is vital for effective hydraulic fracturing,particularly Young’s modulus due to its link to rock brittleness.This study integrates interdisciplinary data for better predic...Accurate rock elastic property determination is vital for effective hydraulic fracturing,particularly Young’s modulus due to its link to rock brittleness.This study integrates interdisciplinary data for better predictions of elastic modulus,combining data mining,experiments,and calibrated synthetics.We used the microstructural insights extracted from rock images for geomechanical facies analysis.Additionally,the petrophysical data and well logs were correlated with shear wave velocity(Vs)and Young’s modulus.We developed a machine-learning workflow to predict Young’s modulus and assess rock fracturability,considering mineral composition,geomechanics,and microstructure.Our findings indicate that artificial neural networks effectively predict Young’s modulus,while K-Means clustering and hierarchical support vector machines excel in identifying rock and geomechanical facies.Utilizing Microscale thin section analysis in conjunction with fracture modeling enhances our understanding of fracture geometries and facilitates fracturability assessment.Notably,fracturability is controlled by specific geomechanical facies during initiation and propagation and influenced by continuity of geomechanical facies in small depth intervals.In conclusion,this study demonstrates data mining and machine learning potential for predicting rock properties and assessing fracturability,aiding hydraulic fracturing design optimization through diverse data and advanced methods.展开更多
There is an extensive attention in developed countries to take full advantages of urban green spaces including green school grounds.Those spaces are assessed and established as environmental learning resources,where t...There is an extensive attention in developed countries to take full advantages of urban green spaces including green school grounds.Those spaces are assessed and established as environmental learning resources,where top-down or bottom-up initiatives encourage or initiate projects with the support of school staffs and students.Green school grounds are also used for gardening(food growing)that besides environmental education,those spaces provide health benefits and knowledge,also skills and behavioral benefits.Those approaches in some developing countries are still vague or inapplicable for several reasons.This paper addresses the use and value of school grounds in developing countries as it lacks the opportunities to make the most of green school grounds.This research elaborated five schools,in the city of Podujevo,Kosovo.The findings reveal that the potentials of green school grounds in most of the cases studied have not been utilized.Opportunities offered by the municipality and environmental NGOs(Non-governmental Organizations)are insufficient.The findings suggest the need to rethink the design and use of green school grounds in developing countries.展开更多
This paper considers perceptions of children’s learning and classroom practice to support learning in the Pakistani early years educational context.In Pakistan,there is a growing focus on quality provision of early c...This paper considers perceptions of children’s learning and classroom practice to support learning in the Pakistani early years educational context.In Pakistan,there is a growing focus on quality provision of early childhood education and building early childhood education teacher capacity.Over the course of one academic year,data were collected from kindergarten teachers in a Pakistani urban school through interviews and classroom observations as part of a larger study.Findings presented in this paper are based on the interview data of two teachers in the sample,a novice and an experienced teacher.Data analysis examined their perceptions of kindergarten children’s learning and of their practice to support kindergarten children’s learning,taking into consideration the gender perspective.The results showed tensions in the teachers’perceptions which contrasted between a constructivist approach and a teacher-directed skills approach.Perceptions of their practice reflected a formal,teacher-directed approach rather than a constructivist approach and a teacher-directed skills approach to teaching.Several factors,including deep-rooted perceptions as well as curriculum structure,time,number of staff and resources,contributed to this.展开更多
