This allows improved pregnancy results and the avoidance of unintended births. Teenagers’ views on using contraceptives are influenced by the information available at their disposal. The study assessed the influential factors affecting the utilization of modern contraceptives among the youth in Akuse in the Eastern Region of Ghana. Methods: The data for the study were gathered from 378 consented youth aged 15 - 24 years using a quantitative cross-sectional study design and a well-structured questionnaire. Person’s Chi-Square test was adopted to measure the association between the outcome variable and selected independent variables. Logistic regression models were utilized to measure the odds of the factors influencing modern contraceptive use among the respondents. Results: The results of the study suggested a high knowledge level of contraceptives;however, the prevalence of utilization was low. The level of education and age were factors found to influence the uptake of contraceptives. A bivariate analysis to examine the association between selected socio-demographic variables revealed that educational level (p = 0.044), religious affiliation (p = 0.002), and ethnicity (p = 0.016) were statistically associated with modern contraceptive use among the respondents. All other tested demographic variables including the age groups, gender, marital status, and residential status proved otherwise at the observed p-values greater than the 0.05 threshold. Respondents who indicated staying with partners were 6.79 times more likely to use contraceptives compared to their counterparts staying with a parent, after controlling for all other covariates. Conclusions: Based on the findings of this study, it was concluded that high contraceptive knowledge influences the choice of contraceptive preferred by the youth, and contraceptive use is also influenced by the advancement in age and educational level of the youth. It is however recommended that parents, guidance, and teachers be entreated to offer relevant and timely sexual information or education as these will most likely improve the uptake of modern contraceptives among the targeted population.展开更多

文摘Background:Limited nationally representative evidence is available on temporal trends in physical fitness(PF)for children and adolescents during the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic.The primary aim was to examine the temporal trends in PF for Japanese children and adolescents before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. The secondary aim was to estimate the concurrent trends in body size(measured as body mass and height)and movement behaviors(exercise, screen, and sleep time). Methods:Census PF data for children in Grade 5(aged 10-11 years)and adolescents in Grade 8(aged 13-14 years)were obtained for the years 2013-2021 from the National Survey of Physical Fitness,Athletic Performance, and Exercise Habits in Japan(n=16,647,699).PF and body size were objectively measured, and movement behaviors were self-reported.Using sample-weighted linear regression, temporal trends in mean PF were calculated before the pandemic(2013-2019)and during the pandemic(2019-2021)with adjustments for age, sex, body size, and exercise time. Results:When adjusted for age, sex, body size, and exercise time, there were significant declines in PF during the pandemic, with the largest declines observed in 20-m shuttle run(standardized(Cohen’s)effect size(ES)=-0.109 per annum(p.a.))and sit-ups performance(ES=-0.133p.a.).The magnitude of the declines in 20-m shuttle run and sit-ups performances were 18-and 15-fold larger, respectively, than the improvements seen before the pandemic(2013-2019),after adjusting for age, sex, body size, and exercise time.During the pandemic, both body mass and screen time significantly increased, and exercise time decreased. Conclusion:Declines in 20-m shuttle run and sit-ups performances suggest corresponding declines in population health during the COVID-19pandemic.
文摘Background:Lacrosse is one of the fastest-growing sports in the United States. Its rules regarding permitted contact differ by sex and age. There are no known studies using a nationally representative data set to analyze lacrosse injury patterns over several years by sex and age in the youth population. Methods:A retrospective analysis was performed using data from the National Electronic Injury Surveillance System for youth aged 11-18 years who were treated for lacrosse-related injuries in U.S.emergency departments from 2000 to 2016.Based on our review of the case narratives,we created and coded a new injury-mechanism variable. We generated national estimates from 6406 cases. Results:An estimated 206,274 lacrosse-related injuries to youths aged 11-18 years were treated in U.S.emergency departments from 2000 to 2016.The rate of injuries per 10,000 significantly increased from 1.9 in 2000 to a peak of 5.3 in 2012(p<0.0001),followed by a significant decrease to 3.4 in 2016(p=0.020).Injury mechanism, body part injured, and diagnosis differed by sex.Boys were 1.62 times(95%confidence interval(95%CI):1.25-2.09)more likely than girls to be injured by player-to-player contact.Girls were 2.21 times(95%CI:1.96-2.49)more likely than boys to have non-contact injuries.Overall,as age increased, the percentage of injuries from lacrosse sticks decreased and player-toplayer contact increased. Conclusion:Despite additional protective regulations in the sport, lacrosse is an important source of injury where we continue to see differences by sex and age. This study supports the continuation, modification, and addition of rules aimed at reducing lacrosse injury risk.

文摘The Communist Manifesto,as the initial comprehensive exposition of scientific socialist theory, encapsulates the scientific spirit of Marxism. As socialism with Chinese characteristics enters a new epoch, and the world is in the throes of an unprecedented century-long transformation, the importance of young talent in bolstering national scientific and technological progress grows ever more apparent. It is of paramount significance to profoundly understand and elucidate the theoretical heritage, practical guidance, and directional leadership that The Communist Manifesto provides to scientific education for the young talent of this new era from three perspectives:theory, practice, and history. This understanding is vital for young talents to further deepen their accurate comprehension of the governing laws of the Communist Party, the construction laws of socialism, and the development laws of human society. The nurturing of scientific spirit and scientific literacy in young talents has critical implications for providing talent support in building a world scientific and technological powerhouse.
