Improving the Quality of Public Space in Old Residential Areas Based on Superposition and Intervention:A Case Study of Baihuazhou District of Nanchang City

With the development of cities,China has entered an era of stock planning.The functions of old residential areas in urban development can no longer meet the needs of residents in the new era for a better life,and new standards have been put forward for the quality of public spaces for living.This paper analyzes and sorts out the characteristics and problems of the public space in the old residential areas of Baihuazhou district.Combining superposition and intervention techniques,the spatial,historical,cultural and other characteristic elements of the residential areas are preserved to the greatest extent.The public space in the old residential areas of Baihuazhou District is updated and reconstructed in order to achieve the goal of improving the quality of its public space.

Conservation and Renewal Strategies of Industrial Heritage Residential Areas from the Perspective of Heritage Protection : A Case Study of Residential Area of Wuchang Vehicle Factory

The residential area of Wuchang Vehicle Factory is taken as a case to explore the protection and renewal strategies of industrial heritage residential areas.By analyzing the current situation of the residential area,issues such as functional decline,memory loss,and weakened community vitality are revealed.Three design concepts are proposed:building renovation,historical space renovation,and the introduction of cultural and creative industries,aiming to improve the living environment,showcase historical value,cultivate cultural and creative industries,promote economic transformation,and community vitality.This paper could provide reference for the protection and renewal of similar industrial heritage residential areas,and new ideas for the research and utilization of industrial heritage.By comprehensively considering heritage protection,cultural inheritance,and community development,systematic suggestions are proposed.

Optimization of Green Space Plant Configuration in Residential Areas of Chongqing Central Business District Based on Green Plot Ratio—A Case Study of Xuhui City Residential Community

The current urban green space construction was guided by a two-dimensional index evaluation system, resulting in weak ecological benefits of green space. Green plot ratio (GPR), as a three-dimensional indicator, can characterize the ecological benefits of green areas and the ability of green areas to participate in the operation and regulation of urban ecosystems. As an important component of urban green space, the GPR index was added to the two-dimensional index evaluation system to optimize the green space, which can promote the development of low-carbon, healthy and ecological green space. Based on the research of 22 residential districts in the central city of Chongqing, the Leaf area index (LAI) index of common native garden plants in Chongqing was formed to improve the accuracy of green capacity index measurement in Chongqing. The study also took the residential community of Sunrise City in Banan District of Chongqing as an example, and carried out the optimization design practice from four types of residential community green areas: green areas next to houses, road green areas, concentrated green areas, and green areas attached to public service facilities.

Landscape Design and Application of Plants in Modern Residential Area

Based on the present situation of plant landscape in residential areas, this study aimed to analyze the development trend, deficiencies in constructing landscape environment and the basic designing principles, and put forward corresponding countermeasures.

Strategies for Introducing Energy Saving Idea into Residential Planning and Design in Urban and Rural Areas of China

Currently,energy saving design has been conducted on single building but not on the whole residential community in urban and rural areas.So,the paper has proposed energy saving measures for residential planning from the perspective of site selection and layout of buildings.Specific measures are as follows.Firstly,buildings should be constructed on the sunny side and leeside;secondly,buildings on the south should be lower than those on the north;the east side of the building should be open while the west side should be closed;thirdly,climate protection unit should be set;fourthly,buildings should be of northsouth direction primarily,and the main room should be set on the east side and the assistant rooms or passage on the west side in the buildings of east-west direction;fifthly,it should select compact and wellarranged households and the units should not be combined in point and dislocation and jointing.

Programming of Landscape Environment in "Lanting Shanshui" Residential Area

This paper explained natural condition and cultural background of "Lanting Shanshui"(landscape surrounding Orchid Pavilion) residential area,discussed the guiding ideology and principle of the programming of landscape environment.In this design,modern architectural form and materials would be combined with Chinese cultural tradition of "pursuit of natural landscape" in the whole residential area,with everything based on people and nature,entrusting landscape with thoughts and cultural connotation.In addition,macroscopically,in the perspective of overall environmental landscape system and landscaping dynamic index,the author analyzed the overall layout of landscapes;and microscopically,the author described in detail the road,pavement,public rest facilities,marks and some other hard facilities,and landscaping plants(including grouping greening,road greening and public greening),waterscape and other soft facilities of landscape designing.

Creation of "Regional Characteristic" in Planning and Design of Farmers' Residential Area at the South of Lower Reaches of the Yangtze River

After analysis of location feature of the south of lower reaches of Yangtze River and its construction of urban and rural integration,the paper pointed out harmonious combination between natural and artificial factors had been neglected in planning and design of farmers' residential area at the south of lower reaches of Yangtze River,"regional characteristic" losing,residential area in the form of "city community" and buildings in European style.In view of these problems,relevant planning and design thoughts and methods had been proposed as to how to create "regional characteristic" from the perspective of planning,architecture and landscape design.It discussed with emphasis the importance of construction base type and combination of environment with residential area construction;inspirations and design methods obtained from traditional architectures;and the content of landscape overall planning and specific design.It was hoped to enlighten designers to shoulder social and historical responsibility,make exploration unremittingly,and construct beautiful homelands for people.

Reflect on Landscape Design of Wangdian Residential Area in Langfang City

This paper analyzed the existing problems of landscape design of Wangdian residential area in Langfang City and put forward relevant suggestions and improvement measures.As far as water landscape was concerned,it was advocated to reduce water size,and enhance integrity of water and green space and interaction between water and residents.In terms of green space,it was suggested to plant more arbors and shrubs,and be particular about the environmental and seasonal factor of plant cultivation.Lawns should be substituted by Sedum spetabiles.The design of hard landscape should be of ornamentation,interest,participation and living nature,close to life,embodying human spirit.The layout of activity space should take physiological and psychological characteristics of different people groups into full consideration and manifest humanity and practicality.The study and suggestions were aimed at building the residential area into a community where human,architectures and environment were in harmony through good material planning.

Investigation and Analysis of Landscape Factors of Modern Residential Areas —A Case Stuy of "Zhongyi·Arkadia" in Zhengdong New Zone of Zhengzhou City in China

Through the investigation of landscape factors of "Zhongyi·Arkadia" in Zhengdong New Zone of Zhengzhou City, characteristics of its landscape environment had been summarized. The plants pattern was beautiful and disposition mode was appropriate; arbors, shrubs and grasses had been collocated reasonably and the environment was pretty. The square had been closely connected with the waterscape and the communication space was appropriate in scale, providing residents with an ideal spiritual homeland. Pavements, walls and sketches had centered on the landscape theme, enhancing the artistry of the residential environment. The diversified waterscape was the most characteristic landscape in the residential area, changing the microclimate. The main road in the shape of "S" had optimized the visual route, concretizing landscape layers. Meanwhile, it had found some insufficiencies. It was lack of native characteristic and landscape environments of other areas had been simulated blindly. Waterscape design had overlooked sustainability and overly emphasized artistry. It had not considered landscape effect from multi-angle. It hoped to provide reference for planning design and construction of landscape environment in newly-built residential areas in other cities based on the investigation and analysis.

Research on Evaluation of Green Land System in Old Residential Areas

Development of residential areas in China had been divided into three stages, and the paper had pointed out that China now highlighted living but neglected environment. The paper had concluded major existing problems of green lands in residential areas, and based on this, it considered that it was necessary to launch an evaluation on green land system in residential areas. It had analyzed identification of evaluation system indexes and weights, and proposed an evaluation system model. Furthermore, by taking "Hayiji" residential area for example, it had illustrated the application of the evaluation system of green lands in old residential areas in detail. Through evaluation on them, the primary problems of each green land system had been identified, and pertinent reconstruction modes had been proposed, so as to provide reference for reconstruction of green land systems of old residential areas in North China.

Winter Waterscape Design for Residential Areas in Northeastern Cities of China——A Case Study of Waterscape Design of “Riverbank House” in Yingkou City of Liaoning Province

The paper has proposed the design concept of "solid waterscape". It considers that in waterscape design, it should select a design style suitable for local climate, traditional culture and folk customs; respect the nature and be close to nature; and approach the life and fit in with the reality. In terms of flowing water and solid water, it should make a reasonable and comprehensive design in terms of time, space and pattern, develop new landscape factors, and enrich winter landscape; set indoor waterscape; and enrich color design. By taking waterscape design of the residential area "Riverbank House" for example, it has stressed the solid character of water to highlight snow and ice culture and northeastern style, so as to create a natural and vivid snowy and icy landscape. Snow and ice have been the lead of winter landscape. Finally, waterscape can provide two different patterns of beauty throughout the year.

Carbon Dioxide Concentration and Flux in an Urban Residential Area in Seoul,Korea

The carbon dioxide （CO2） concentrations and fluxes measured at a height of 17.5 m above the ground by a sonic anemometer and an open-path gas analyzer at an urban residential site in Seoul, Korea from February 2011 to January 2012 were analyzed. The annual mean CO2 concentration was found to be 750 mg m-3, with a maximum monthly mean concentration of 827 mg m-3 in January and a minimum value of 679 mg m-3 in August. Meanwhile, the annual mean CO2 flux was found to be 0.45 mg m-2 s-1, with a maximum monthly mean flux of 0.91 mg m-2 s-1 in January and a minimum value of 0.19 mg m-2 s-1 in June. The hourly mean CO2 concentration was found to show a significant diurnal variation; a maximum at 0700-0900 LST and a minimum at 1400-1600 LST, with a large diurnal range in winter and a small one in summer, mainly caused by diurnal changes in mixing height, CO2 flux, and surface complexity. The hourly mean CO2 flux was also found to show a significant diurnal variation, but it showed two maxima at 0700-0900 LST and 2100-2400 LST, and two minima at 1100-1500 LST and 0300-0500 LST, mainly caused by a diurnal pattern in CO2 emissions and sinks from road traffic, domestic heating and cooking by liquefied natural gas use, and the different horizontal distribution of CO2 sources and sinks near the site. Differential advection with respect to wind direction was also found to be a cause of diurnal variations in both the CO2 concentration and flux.
