By embedding silicone into the back bone of polymeric resin the above drawback can be reduced to substantial level. For achieving this, siliconised epoxy resins were prepared by reacting amine terminated silicone resin with novolac epoxy resin and meta-phenylenediamine was used as curing agent. The applied films of coating were baked at 150oC. Cured films were evaluated for their thermal, mechanical, chemical and corrosion resistance properties to ascertain the commercial utility of these eco-friendly resin for use in anti corrosive formulations. The siliconized epoxy resins system was found to exhibit good thermal and anticorrosive properties.展开更多

The isothermal curing kinetics of epoxy/GNPs powder coating were monitored by means of real-time Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR) with a heating cell. The mechanical properties of the epoxy/GNPs cured coatings had been investigated, by evaluating their fracture surfaces with field-emission scanning electron microscopy(FE-SEM) after three-point-bending tests. The thermal stability of the epoxy/GNPs cured coatings was studied by thermo-gravimetric analysis(TGA). The isothermal curing kinetics result showed that the GNPs would not affect the autocatalytic reaction mechanism, but the loading of GNPs below 1.0 wt % additive played a prompting role in the curing of the epoxy/GNPs powder coatings. The fracture strain, fracture toughness and impact resistance of the epoxy/GNPs cured coatings increased dramatically at low levels of GNPs loading(1 wt %), indicating that the GNPs could improve the toughness of the epoxy/GNPs powder coatings. Furthermore, from FE-SEM studies of the fracture surfaces, the possible toughening mechanisms of the epoxy/GNPs cured coatings were proposed. TGA result showed that the incorporation of GNPs improved the thermal stability of the cured coatings. Hence, the GNPs modified epoxy can be an efficient approach to toughen epoxy powder coating along with improving their thermal stability.展开更多

It is found that the high water affinity of a water-borne coating supports a higher saturated water content, Mχ, and helps to facilitate absorption D. The three parameters of stretched exponential function called the William-Watt equation, Eo, τ, and β, are determined to fit the degraded stress relaxation behavior in the water absorption process because this function quantitatively describes the relaxing ability and has been successfully used by a number of researchers. An increasing in the water content is shown to correlate strongly with a decrease in Eo and fl early in the absorption process between Mt/M(χ) = 0 and Mt/Mχ≈ 0.5. The adhesive characteristics of the coatings are correlated with water content, and shown to exhibit higher cohesive failure in coating epoxies under saturated conditions. This suggests that water interferes with the intermolecular bonding between polymer chains which degrades the bulk materials ability to diffuse stress concentrations and reduces its overall strength.展开更多

The corrosion and the fracture surfaces after fatigue test were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and the corrosion compositions were measured by energy-dispersive spectrometry(EDS). The fatigue properties and the crack initiation mechanisms of the specimens before and after epoxy coating treatment were discussed. The results indicate that the fatigue limit after epoxy coating treatment in gear oil is higher than that of the uncoated specimens. The epoxy coating is an excellent way to prevent direct contact between the Mg-3Al-1Zn alloy and surrounding environments. The mechanical properties of the epoxy coating layer are lower than that of magnesium alloy, which is the main reason for the fatigue crack initiation on the epoxy coating layer. In addition, the gear oil lubrication could lead to the flaking off of the epoxy-coated layer.展开更多

It is obvious that these traditional cathodic disbondment tests (CDT) have some disadvantages and the evaluated results are only simple figures and always rely on the subjective experience of the operator. A new electrochemical method for evaluating the RCD of coatings, that is, the potentiostatic evaluation method (PEM), was developed and studied. During potentiostatic anodic polarization testing, the changes of stable polarization current of specimens before and after cathodic disbonding (CD) were measured, and the degree of cathodic disbondment of the coating was quantitatively evaluated, among which the equivalent cathodic disbonded distance AD was suggested as a parameter for evaluating the RCD. A series of testing parameters of the PEM were determined in these experiments.展开更多

文摘The kinetics of water absorption in water-borne anticorrosive urethane/epoxy coatings, which were actually introduced in the industrial field, are studied. This suggests that water interferes with the intermolecular bonding between polymer chains which degrades the bulk materials ability to diffuse stress concentrations and reduces its overall strength.

文摘The corrosion fatigue behavior of epoxy-coated Mg-3Al-1Zn alloy in gear oil was investigated. In addition, the gear oil lubrication could lead to the flaking off of the epoxy-coated layer.

文摘The surface of ZrO2 nanoparticles was modified by styrene coupling grafting method to improve the dispersion and interaction of the nanoparticles with the epoxy coating in which the modified ZrO2 nanoparticles were used as an additive. The grafting performance and microstructure of the nano- ZrO2/epoxy coating were analyzed by Fourier transformation infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and scanning electron microscopy. The corrosion behavior of the nano-ZrO2/epoxy coating on mild steel was evaluated in neutral 3.5 wt% NaC1 solution using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). Both the coating capacitance and coating resistance fitted by the equivalent circuit from EIS were used to evaluate the protective performance of the coating towards the mild steel. The results show a superior stability and efficient corrosion protection by the modified ZrO2 nanoparticles. The epoxy coating containing 2 wt% modified ZrO2 nanoparticles exhibited the best corrosion performance among all the coating specimens. This research may provide an insight into the protection of mild steel using modified epoxy coatings.

文摘Liquid carboxyl-terminated poly(butadiene-co-acrylonitrile)(CTBN)-epoxy resin(EP) prepolymers were prepared with different contents of CTBN.The chemical reactions between EP and CTBN were characterized by Fourier ransform infrared(FTIR) spectroscopy and gel permeation chromatography(GPC).The scanning electron micrograph(SEM) and dynamic mechanical analysis(DMA) of curing films showed phase separation, and the rubber particles were finely dispersed in the epoxy matrix.Mechanical properties analysis of curing films showed that impact strength and elongation at break increased significantly upon the addition of CTBN,indicating good toughness of the modified epoxy resins.Thermogravimetric analysis(TGA) showed that the incorporation of CTBN had little effect on the thermal stability of EP.Fusion-bonded-epoxy(FBE) powder coatings modified with CTBN-EP prepolymers were prepared. The experimental results demonstrate the ability of CTBN-EP prepolymers, toughening technology to dramatically enhance the flexibility and impact resistance of FBE coatings without compromising other key properties such as corrosion protection.

文摘A novel kind of waterborne epoxy coating pigmented by nano-sized aluminium powders on high strength steel was formulated. Several coatings with different pigment volume content (PVC) were prepared. The coating morphology was observed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and the electrochemical properties were investigated by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). Immersion test and neutral salt spray test were also conducted to investigate the corrosion resistance of the coating. It is demonstrated that the critical pigment volume content (CPVC) value is between 30% and 40%. The coating with PVC of 30% exhibits good corrosion resistance in 3.5% (mass fraction) NaCl solution.

文摘Methods for evaluating the resistance to cathodic disbondment (RCD) of anti-corrosion coatings on buried pipelines were reviewed. A series of testing parameters of the PEM were determined in these experiments.
文摘Silicon powders possess good thermal stability and rub resistance and can be used as the filler of high temperature wear-resistant coating;it can possess good wettability and dispersibility in the organic polymer by surface modification of silane coupling agent. Organic silicon has good thermal stability, which can modify the frangibility and thermal stability of epoxy resin. A certain proportion of modified silica powder, curing agent and additives were dispersed to modified epoxy resin can compound wear-resistant coating. The results show that: the modification effect can be the best if the dosage of silane coupling agent is 1.5% of silicon powder. If the methyl triethoxy silane is 50 phr and modified silica powder is 200 phr, then various performances of coating tend to be the best.
