Tuo Shan Yan Dam and City Ningbo: Exploring the Historical Logic of Urban Water Management through a Big City of China

Tuo Shan Yan Dam is a small darn which was built above Yinjiang River at the Yinjiang Town, Ningbo City, Zhejiang Province of China in 833 AD, but it is greatly contributed to Ningbo City, a current big port city of China. The dam and the matched system had become a key hydro-infrastructure to the city's existence and development, and irrigation of the countryside nearby the city from ninth century up to 1987, a big dam was built at upper reach to control water of the river. Tuo Shan Yan Dam functioned an important role in the local water management and met a series of purposes perfectly, mainly as: (a) regulation of the river water; (b) save the flood; (c) stop the salinization; (d) urban water supply; (e) storage of flesh water; (f) irrigation; (g) ship transportation. And it is a miracle that it has been functioned for more than one thousand years. This dam also influenced the local social life and people's spiritual world simultaneously. The construction of the dam and its matched hydro-system is in line with the Chinese ancient logic of urban water management to manage river to meet a multi-proposes of urban development by a key project and a systemic engineering design. It is an important case for better understanding of ancient Chinese urban water management and to learn from the history for current water sustainability. Accordingly, the dam's design, construction and its influence on the local societies are studied in this article. 展开更多

Bone-inlaid wooden art is a very old artistic form that has a strong artistic appeal and local flavor. It can be traced back to the Longshan Culture in the late Neolithic Age, and becomes mature in the late Qing Dynasty. As time lapses, however, bone-inlaid wooden art is gradually out of sight. It was not until June 2008 when Ningbo bone-inlaid wooden art was included in the "second batch of national intangible cultural heritage protection list" that it once again caused social concern. Ningbo bone-inlaid wooden art has a long history, and its craftsmanship is complex. Many bone-inlaid wooden works in Ningbo have been damaged more or less. Therefore, workers in the field of heritage protection should undertake a more systematic protection and repair work based on scientific research, making contributions to the heritage and development of intangible cultural heritage. 展开更多

Low visibility episodes (visibility < 1000 m) were studied by applying the anomaly-based weather analysis method. A regional episode of low visibility associated with a coastal fog that occurred from 27 to 28 January 2016 over Ningbo- Zhoushan Port, Zhejiang Province, East China, was first examined. Some basic features from the anomalous weather analysis for this case were identified:(1) the process of low visibility mainly caused by coastal fog was a direct response to anomalous temperature inversion in the lower troposphere, with a warm center around the 925 hPa level, which was formed by a positive geopotential height (GPH) anomaly in the upper troposphere and a negative GPH anomaly near the surface;(2) the positive humidity anomaly was conducive to the formation of coastal fog and rain;(3) regional coastal fog formed at the moment when the southwesterly wind anomalies transferred to northeasterly wind anomalies. Other cases confirmed that the low visibility associated with coastal fog depends upon low-level inversion, a positive humidity anomaly, and a change of wind anomalies from southwesterly to northeasterly, rain and stratus cloud amount. The correlation coefficients of six-hourly inversion, 850?925-hPa-averaged temperature, GPH and humidity anomalies against visibility are ?0.31, 0.40 and ?0.48, respectively, reaching the 99% confidence level in the first half-years of 2015 and 2016. By applying the anomaly-based weather analysis method to medium-range model output products, such as ensemble prediction systems, the anomalous temperature?pressure pattern and humidity?wind pattern can be used to predict the process of low visibility associated with coastal fog at several days in advance. 展开更多

Due to frequent drinking water pollution accidents in the past decade, it is common that mountain reservoirs were used as the source of drinking water in China. However, some coastal areas frequently suffer from typhoon with extreme precipitation, which results in the water quality deterioration of the reservoirs. The influence of typhoons with extreme precipitation on Jiaokou reservoir and the emergency treatment process of Maojiaping water treatment plant in the past three typical typhoons with extreme precipitation from the year of 2012-2015 were studied. It was found that the degradation of water quality, such as the increase of turbidity and bacteria index, may not merely appear during the events, but last for several days. Changing the dosage of water purification agent, such as coagulant and disinfectant at right time and place may be an efficient emergency water treatment process. Based on the analysis of water quality variation rule during and after the events, it was also found that emergency treatment can be fully prepared before the arrival of a typhoon with extreme precipitation. And in order to better respond to the typhoon with extreme precipitation, several suggestions are also proposed in this paper as follows: establishing vegetated buffers at right place, such as macrophanerophytes,shrub or herbage, increasing investments in infrastructure management, merging or cancelling the small-scale water treatment plants, preparing adequate water purification agent before the typhoon comes, etc. 展开更多

Five aspects have been systematically addressed and analyzed, which include sales order, production schedule programming, steelmaking,continuous casting and hot-rolling. The average DHCR product rate has reached 55% and the average slab charging temperature 699℃. As a result, the production cost, the energy consumption and the CO2emission have been significantly reduced. By analyzing the past three typical typhoons landing in Ningbo from 2013 to 2016, it was found that before and after the ... Coastal cities represented by Ningbo are directly or indirectly affected by typhoons each year. By analyzing the past three typical typhoons landing in Ningbo from 2013 to 2016, it was found that before and after the typhoon transit, reservoir and water treatment plant would be made by the destructive impact, including the increasing water level, water volume in a short time, and the deteriorating water quality. Among those, the water quality caused by typhoons increased the water treatment process load, the amount of water purification agents increased significantly,and the emergency response put a great pressure on the inventory of water plants. Based on the statistics and analysis of the basic parameters of the reservoir and water treatment plant during the typhoon season, the emergency management of the typhoon was divided into three situations, namely, pre-typhoon, typhoon period and post-typhoon. Thus, it is effective for the relevant practitioners of the reservoir and water plant to ensure the safe water supply during typhoon season. 展开更多

以重金属污染土的治理为背景,通过毒性浸出、无侧限抗压强度、土柱淋滤试验并结合镉形态分析等其他微观测试方法,探讨了Ca^(2+)的添加、Cd^(2+)浓度、养护时间等因素对驯化巴氏生孢八叠球菌固化镉污染土特性的影响.结果表明:Ca^(2+)对... 以重金属污染土的治理为背景,通过毒性浸出、无侧限抗压强度、土柱淋滤试验并结合镉形态分析等其他微观测试方法,探讨了Ca^(2+)的添加、Cd^(2+)浓度、养护时间等因素对驯化巴氏生孢八叠球菌固化镉污染土特性的影响.结果表明:Ca^(2+)对固化土中Cd^(2+)浸出特性影响显著,不添加Ca^(2+)时,当尿素浓度为0.5 mol·L^(-1),固化土的Cd^(2+)浸出质量浓度(0.42~5.64 mg·L^(-1))最低;添加Ca^(2+)后,Cd^(2+)浸出浓度略有增大,胶结液中尿素和Ca^(2+)浓度均为0.5 mol·L^(-1)时,Cd^(2+)的固化效果较好.延长养护时间,固化后土体的抗压强度增加,Cd^(2+)浸出浓度降低且固化效果提高;增大Cd^(2+)浓度,固化后土体的抗压强度降低,Cd^(2+)浸出浓度提高;添加Ca^(2+)有助于增强镉污染土的固化效果,在养护时间为28 d时,当Cd^(2+)浓度为100 mg·kg^(-1)时,添加Ca^(2+)的试样强度达到312 kPa,相较于未添加Ca^(2+)试样强度(234 kPa)提升了33.3%;当Cd^(2+)浓度增大至1600 mg·kg^(-1)时,添加Ca^(2+)的试样强度达到269 kPa,相较于未添加Ca^(2+)试样强度提升了57.3%,试样的浸出浓度降低了15.4%;经淋滤后,添加Ca^(2+)的试样滤出液中Cd^(2+)浓度始终低于未添加Ca^(2+)试样.固化后土中弱酸可提取态镉向可还原态镉和残渣态镉转变,添加Ca^(2+)进一步降低弱酸可提取态镉所占比例,减小了Cd^(2+)的迁移能力. 展开更多

[目的]地铁列车空压机出口压力空气干燥度是一个非常重要的指标。如果压力空气中含水量高,就会影响各用风设备的性能,进而影响行车安全。上海轨道交通运维人员在汛期对某些线路列车进行检修时发现,列车供风管路中存在液态水,这是因压力空气中含水量过高而造成的。需要在现有条件下,研究如何调整维修策略,进而改善空压机在汛期的干燥能力。[方法]通过正交试验设计方法,设计了用于分析空压机出口压力空气含水量影响因素的试验方案,给出了使用田口方法分析数据进而确定主要影响因素的方法。[结果及结论]运用该试验方案进行试验,能够分析出影响列车空压机出口压力空气含水量的主要因素,运维人员可据此结论制定适用于汛期的列车空压机维修策略。该正交试验设计方法也可以推广应用至城市轨道交通其他设备运维策略的完善与优化工作之中。 展开更多
