Purpose: Elaboration of an indicator to include the dynamic aspect of citations in bibliometric indexes.Design/methodology/approach: A new bibliometric methodology—the f^2-index—is applied at the career level and at the level of the recent 5 years to analyze the dynamic aspect of bibliometrics. The method is applied, as an illustration, to the field of corporate governance.Findings: The compound F^2-index as an extension of the f^2-index recognizes past achievements but also values new research work with potential. The method is extended to the h-index and the h^2-index. An activity index is defined as the ratio between the recent h'-index to the career h-index.Research limitations: The compound F^2 and H-indexes are PAC, probably approximately correct, and depend on the selection and database.Practical implications: The F^2-and H compound indexes allow identifying the rising stars of a field from a dynamic perspective. The activity ratio highlights the contribution of younger researchers.Originality/value: The new methodology demonstrates the underestimated dynamic capacity of bibliometric research. 展开更多

The ability to accurately characterize projects novel project characteristic is developed characteristic, called project regularity, is essential to good project management. Therefore, a reflects the value accrue within a project. This expressed in terms of the newly introduced regular/irregular-indicator RI. The widely accepted management system of earned value management (EVM) forms the basis for evaluation of the new characteristic. More concretely, the influence of project regularity on EVMforecasting accuracy is assessed, and is shown to be significant for both time and cost forecasting. Moreover, this effect appears to be stronger than that of the widely used characteristic of project seriality expressed by the serial/parallel-indicator SP. Therefore, project regularity could also be useful as an input parameter for project network generators. Furthermore, the introduction of project regularity can provide project managers with a more accurate indication of the time and cost forecasting accuracy that is to be expected for a certain project and, correspondingly, of how a project should be built up in order to obtain more reliable forecasts during project control. 展开更多

The paper is split up in three parts. In today's challenges, research endeavors that have received a significant, but still not enough, attention have been described. In tomorrow's research challenges, some promising research avenues for future research have been given. Finally, in yesterday's challenge, a research topic that started decades ago, is said to have still a huge potential in tomorrow's research agenda. This paper does not intend to give a full literature overview, nor a summary of all possible research paths. Instead, it is inspired from the author's experience in academic research and practical consultancy and it serves as a personal opinion on a nonexhaustive set of promising research avenues, rather than giving a full literature-based advice for future research directions. 展开更多
