In this exclusive interview with key people, we learn about the making of this documentary, which was broadcast on CCTV-10 in late 2017 and early 2018, Unlike documentaries that focus on Tibet's scenery or religious cultures, Extreme Road focuses on life on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, a place so cold that it has been listed after the Arctic and Antarctica as the Earth's "third pole." Involved in its making were Zeng Hairuo, chief director of "Roof of the World;" Cheng Gong, director of the televised tbod series "A Bite of China," and producer Hu Xiaolu. Over two years, the team traveled through 73 cities and remote areas in Tibet. Besides the documentary version, the movie Extreme Road will be seen in China's cinemas in 2018. This exclusive interview with chief producer Zhang Shuang and with Zhao Daxin, chief planner of Extreme Road, also sheds light on future plans for National Culture Journey, a key project of the Ethnic Affairs Commission.展开更多

To strong drum and gong beats, it opened with masked dancers in red garments and with axe-spears in hand, performing a sacrificial ceremony to the god of Nuo and the Nuo Dance of Jiangxi. These Han Chinese folkdances speak to human desires and needs. In some localities south of the Yangtze River, people to the god of Nuo to drive created this dance to appeal away plague and epidemics.展开更多
