The density functional theory (DFT) is the most popular method for evaluating bond dis- sociation enthalpies (BDEs) of most molecules. Thus, we are committed to looking for alternative methods that can balance the computational cost and higher precision to the best for large systems. The performance of DFT, double-hybrid DFT, and high-level com- posite methods are examined. The tested sets contain monocyclic and polycyclic aromatic molecules, branched hydrocarbons, small inorganic molecules, etc. The results show that the mPW2PLYP and G4MP2 methods achieve reasonable agreement with the benchmark val- ues for most tested molecules, and the mean absolute deviations are 2.43 and 1.96 kcal/mol after excluding the BDEs of branched hydrocarbons. We recommend the G4MP2 is the most appropriate method for small systems (atoms number≤20); the double-hybrid DFT methods are advised for large aromatic molecules in medium size (20≤atoms number≤50), and the double-hybrid DFT methods with empirical dispersion correction are recommended for long-chain and branched hydrocarbons in the same size scope; the DFT methods are ad- vised to apply for large systems (atoms number〉50), and the M06-2X and B3P86 methods are also favorable. Moreover, the differences of optimized geometry of different methods are discussed and the effects of basis sets for various methods are investigated. 展开更多

Single-atom catalysis, the catalysis by single-atom catalysts(SACs),has attracted considerable attention in recent years as a new frontier in the heterogeneous catalysis field.SACs have the advantages of both homogeneous catalysts(isolated active sites)and heterogeneous catalysts(stable and easy to separate),and are thus predicted to be able to bridge the homo-and heterogeneous catalysis. This prediction was first experimentally demonstrated in 2016.In this mini-review,we summarize the few homogeneous catalysis progresses reported recently where SACs have exhibited promising application:a)Rh/ZnO and Rh/CoO SAC have been used successfully in hydroformylation of olefin of which the activity are comparable to the homogeneous Wilkinson’s catalyst;b)a Pt/Al2O3 SAC has shown excellent performance in hydrosilylation reaction;and c)M-N-C SACs(M=Fe,Co etc.)have been applied in the activation of C–H bonds. All of these examples suggest that fabrication of suitable SACs could provide a new avenue for the heterogenization of homogeneous catalysts. These pioneering works shed new light on the recognition of single-atom catalysis in bridging the homo-and heterogeneous catalysis. 展开更多

In this study, phosphorus modification by trimethyl phosphate impregnation was employed to enhance the hydrothermal stability of nano‐sized HZSM‐5 zeolites. A parallel modification was studied by ammonium dihydrogen phosphate impregnation. The modified zeolites were subjected to steam treatment at 800 °C for 4 h (100% steam) and employed as catalysts for olefin catalyticcracking (OCC) of full‐range fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) gasoline. X‐ray diffraction, N2 physicaladsorption and NH3 temperature‐programmed desorption analysis indicated that, although significantimprovements to the hydrothermal stability of nano‐sized HZSM‐5 zeolites can be observedwhen adopting both phosphorus modification strategies, impregnation with trimethyl phosphatedisplays further enhancement of the hydrothermal stability. This is because higher structural crystallinityis retained, larger specific surface areas/micropore volumes form, and there are greaternumbers of surface acid sites. Reaction experiments conducted using a fixed‐bed micro‐reactor(catalyst/oil ratio = 4, time on stream = 4 s) showed OCC of full‐range FCC gasoline-under a fluidized‐bed reaction mode configuration-to be a viable solution for the olefin problem of FCC gasoline. This reaction significantly decreased the olefin content in the full‐range FCC gasoline feed, andspecifically heavy‐end olefins, by converting the olefins into value‐added C2–C4 olefins and aromatics. At the same time, sulfide content of the gasoline decreased via a non‐hydrodesulfurization process.Nano‐sized HZSM‐5 zeolites modified with trimethyl phosphate exhibited enhanced catalytic performance for OCC of full‐range FCC gasoline. 展开更多

Supported gold catalysts show high activity toward CO oxidation, and the nature of the support significantly affects the catalytic activity. Herein, serial Ni doping of thin porous Al2 O3 nanosheets was performed via a precipitation-hydrothermal method by varying the amount of Ni during the precipitation step. The prepared nanosheets were subsequently used as supports for the deposition of Au nanoparticles(NPs). The obtained Au/Nix Al catalysts were studied in the context of CO oxidation to determine the effect of Ni doping on the supports. Enhanced catalytic performances were obtained for the Au/Nix Al catalysts compared with those of the Au supported on bare Al2 O3. The Ni content and pretreatment atmosphere were both shown to influence the catalytic activity. Pretreatment under a reducing atmosphere was beneficial for improving catalytic activity. The highest activity was observed for the catalysts with a Ni/Al molar ratio of 0.05, achieving complete CO conversion at 20 °C with a gold loading of 1 wt%. The in-situ FTIR results showed that the introduction of Ni strengthened CO adsorption on the Au NPs. The H2-TPR and O2-TPD results indicated that the introduction of Ni produced new oxygen vacancies and allowed the oxygen molecules to be adsorbed and activated more easily. The improved catalytic performance after doping Ni was attributed to the smaller size of the Au NPs and more active oxygen species. 展开更多

Oxidative dehydrogenation of light alkanes to alkenes is an attractive alternative route for industrial direct dehydrogenation because of favorable thermodynamic and kinetic characteristics, but encounters difficulties in selectivity control for alkenes because of over-oxidation reactions that produce a substantial amount of undesired carbon oxides.Recent progress has revealed that boron nitride is a highly promising catalyst in the oxidative dehydrogenation of light alkanes because of its superior selectivity for and high productivity of light alkenes, negligible formation of CO2,and remarkable catalyst stability. From this viewpoint, recent works on boron nitride in the oxidative dehydrogenations of ethane, propane, butane, and ethylbenzene are reviewed, and the emphasis of this viewpoint is placed on discussing the catalytic origin of boron nitride in oxidative dehydrogenation reactions. After analyzing recent progress in the use of boron nitride for oxidative dehydrogenation reactions and finding much new evidence,we conclude that pure boron nitride is catalytically inert, and an activation period is required under the reaction conditions;this process is accompanied by an oxygen functionalization at the edge of boron nitride;the B-O species themselves have no catalytic activity in C-H cleavage, and the B-OH groups, with the assistance of molecular oxygen, play the key role in triggering the oxidative dehydrogenation of propane;the dissociative adsorption of molecular oxygen is involved in the reaction process;and a straightforward strategy for preparing an active boron nitride catalyst with hydroxyl groups at the edges can efficiently enhance the catalytic efficacy.A new redox reaction cycle based on the B-OH sites is also proposed.Furthermore,as this is a novel catalytic system, there is an urgent need to develop new methods to optimize the catalytic performances, clarify the catalytic function of boron species in the alkane ODH reactions, and disclose the reaction mechanism under realistic reaction conditions. 展开更多

Ordered macroporous materials with rapid mass transport and enhanced active site accessibility are essential for achieving improved catalytic activity. In this study, boron phosphate crystals with a three-dimensionally interconnected ordered macroporous structure and a robust framework were fabricated and used as stable and selective catalysts in the oxidative dehydrogenation(ODH)of propane.Due to the improved mass diffusion and higher number of exposed active sites in the ordered macroporous structure, the catalyst exhibited a remarkable olefin productivity of^16 golefin gcat^-1 h^-1,which is up to 2–100 times higher than that of ODH catalysts reported to date. The selectivity for olefins was 91.5%(propene:82.5%,ethene:9.0%)at 515℃,with a propane conversion of 14.3%.At the same time, the selectivity for the unwanted deep-oxidized CO2 product remained less than 1.0%.The tri-coordinated surface boron species were identified as the active catalytic sites for the ODH of propane. This study provides a route for preparing a new type of metal-free catalyst with stable structure against oxidation and remarkable catalytic activity, which may represent a potential candidate to promote the industrialization of the ODH process. 展开更多

The semi-hydrogenation of alkynols to enols is a crucial process in the production of pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, fragrances, and flavors that involves a complex set of parallel and consecutive isomerization and hydrogenation reactions and proceeds via several key intermediates. In view of the industrial importance of large-scale enol production through alkynol hydrogenation, various noble and non-noble metal(e.g.,Ni and Pd)-based catalysts promoting this transformation have been developed. This paper reviews the design of highly selective catalysts for the semi-hydrogenation of alkynols, focusing on the role of additives, second metals, catalyst supports, and reaction conditions and combining catalytic reaction kinetics with theoretical calculations to establish the reaction mechanism and the decisive factors for boosting selectivity. Finally,a strategy for designing highly efficient and selective catalysts based on the characteristics of aqueous-phase alkynol hydrogenation is proposed. 展开更多

Supported-Au catalysts show excellent activity in CO oxidation, where the nature of the support has a significant impact on catalytic activity. In this work,a hexagonal boron nitride(BN)support with a high surface area and adequately exposed edges was obtained by the ball-milling technique.Thereafter, impregnation of the BN support with Cu(NO3)2 followed by calcination under air at 400℃ yielded a CuO-modified support. After Au loading, the obtained Au-CuO_(x)/BN catalyst exhibited high CO oxidation activity at low temperatures with a 50%CO conversion temperature(T50%)of 25℃ and a complete CO conversion temperature(T100%)of 80℃,well within the operational temperature range of proton exchange membrane fuel cells. However, the CO oxidation activity of Au/BN,prepared without CuO_(x) for comparison, was found to be relatively low.Our study reveals that BN alone disperses both Cu and Au nanoparticles well. However,Au nanoparticles on the surface of BN in the absence of CuO species tend to aggregate upon CO oxidation reactions.Conversely,Au nanoparticles supported on the surface of CuO-modified BN remain small with an average size of~2.0 nm before and after CO oxidation. Moreover, electron transfer between Au and Cu species possibly favors the stabilization of highly dispersed Au nanoparticles on the BN surface and also enhances CO adsorption. Thus, our results demonstrate that thermally stable and conductive CuO-modified BN is an excellent support for the preparation of highly dispersed and stable Au catalysts. 展开更多

Nitrogen vacancies and sulfur co-doped g-C3N4 with outstanding N2 photofixation ability was synthesized via dielectric barrier discharge plasma treatment. X-ray diffraction, ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy, N2 adsorption, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, photoluminescence spectroscopy, and temperature-programmed desorption were used to characterize the as-prepared catalyst. The results showed that plasma treatment cannot change the morphology of the as-prepared catalyst but introduces nitrogen vacancies and sulfur into g-C3N4 lattice simultaneously. The as-prepared co-doped g-C3N4 displays an ammonium ion production rate as high as 6.2 mg·L^-1·h^-1·gcat^-1, which is 2.3 and 25.8 times higher than that of individual N-vacancy-doped g-C3N4 and neat g-C3N4, respectively, as well as showing good catalytic stability. Experimental and density functional theory calculation results indicate that, compared with individual N vacancy doping, the introduction of sulfur can promote the activation ability of N vacancies to N2 molecules, leading to promoted N2 photofixation performance. 展开更多

The discovery of the high activity and selectivity of boron-based catalysts for oxidative dehydrogenation(ODH)of alkanes to olefins has attracted significant attention in the exploration of a new method for the synthesis of highly active and selective catalysts.Herein,we describe the synthesis of porous boron-doped silica nanofibers(PBSNs)100-150 nm in diameter by electrospinning and the study of their catalytic performance. The electrospinning synthesis of the catalyst ensures the uniform dispersion and stability of the boron species on the open silica fiber framework. The one-dimensional nanofibers with open pore structures not only prevented diffusion limitation but also guaranteed high catalytic activity at high weight hourly space velocity(WHSV)in the ODH of alkanes.Compared to other supported boron oxide catalysts,PBSN catalysts showed higher olefin selectivity and stability. The presence of Si-OH groups in silica-supported boron catalysts may cause low propylene selectivity during the ODH of propane. When the ODH conversion of ethane reached 44.3%,the selectivity and productivity of ethylene were 84%and 44.2%g_(cat)^(-1)s^(-1),respectively.In the case of propane ODH,the conversion, selectivity of olefins, and productivity of propylene are 19.2%,90%,and 76.6 jimol g_(cat)^(-1)s^(-1),respectively.No significant variations in the conversion and product selectivity occurred during 20 h of operation at a high WHSV of 84.6 h^(-1).Transient analysis and kinetic experiments indicated that the activation of O2 was influenced by alkanes during the ODH reaction. 展开更多

Zr‐Al mixed oxide supported Pt catalysts with different Zr/Al mole ratios(2.5%Pt/ZrxAl(1–x)Oy) were synthesized by an impregnation method and used for the selective hydrogenolysis of glycerol to n‐propanol in an autoclave reactor. The catalysts were fully characterized by X‐ray powder diffrac‐tion, Brunauer‐Emmett‐Teller surface area analysis, CO chemisorption, H2 temperature‐ pro‐grammed reduction, pyridine‐infrared spectroscopy, and NH3‐temperature‐programmed desorp‐tion. The results revealed that the Zr/Al ratio on the support significantly affected the size of the platinum particles and the properties of the acid sites on the catalysts. The catalytic performance was well correlated with the acidic properties of the catalyst; specifically, more acid sites contrib‐uted to the conversion and strong acid sites with a specific intensity contributed to the deep dehy‐dration of glycerol to form n‐propanol. Among the tested catalysts, 2.5 wt% Pt/Zr(0.7)Al(0.3)Oy exhibited excellent selectivity for n‐propanol with 81.2% glycerol conversion at 240 °C and 6.0 MPa H2 pres‐sure when 10% aqueous glycerol solution was used as the substrate. In addition, the effect of vari‐ous reaction parameters, such as H2 content, reaction temperature, reaction time, and number of experimental cycles were studied to determine the optimized reaction conditions and to evaluate the stability of the catalyst. 展开更多

Ni-Re/SiO2 catalysts with controllable Ni particle sizes(4.5–18.0 nm)were synthesized to investigate the effects of the particle size on the amination of monoethanolamine(MEA).The catalysts were characterized by various techniques and evaluated for the amination reaction in a trickle bed reactor at 170℃,8.0 MPa,and 0.5 h^-1 liquid hourly space velocity of MEA(LHSVMEA)in NH3/H2 atmosphere. The Ni-Re/SiO2 catalyst with the lowest Ni particle size(4.5 nm)exhibited the highest yield(66.4%)of the desired amines(ethylenediamine(EDA)and piperazine(PIP)).The results of the analysis show that the turnover frequency of MEA increased slightly(from 193 to 253 h^-1)as the Ni particle sizes of the Ni-Re/SiO2 catalysts increased from 4.5 to 18.0 nm.Moreover, the product distribution could be adjusted by varying the Ni particle size. The ratio of primary to secondary amines increased from 1.0 to 2.0 upon increasing the Ni particle size from 4.5 to 18.0 nm.Further analyses reveal that the Ni particle size influenced the electronic properties of surface Ni,which in turn affected the adsorption of MEA and the reaction pathway of MEA amination.Compared to those of small Ni particles, large particles possessed a higher proportion of high-coordinated terrace Ni sites and a higher surface electron density, which favored the amination of MEA and NH3 to form EDA. 展开更多

The widespread utilization of fossil fuels has caused an associated increase in CO_(2) emissions over the past few decades, which has resulted in global warming and ocean acidification.CO hydrogenation(Fischer‐Tropsch synthesis,FTS)is considered a significant route for the production of liquid fuels and chemicals from nonpetroleum sources to meet worldwide demand.Conversion of CO_(2) with renewable H_(2) into valuable hydrocarbons is beneficial for reducing dependence on fossil fuels and mitigating the negative effects of high CO_(2) concentrations in the atmosphere.Iron‐based catalysts exhibit superior catalytic performance in both FTS and CO_(2) hydrogenation to value‐added hydrocarbons. The abundance and low cost of iron‐based catalysts also promote their wide application in CO_(x) hydrogenation. This paper provides a comprehensive overview of the significant developments in the application of iron‐based catalysts in these two fields. The active phases, promoter effect, and support of iron‐based catalysts are discussed in the present paper.Based on understanding of these three essential aspects,we also cover recent advances in the design and preparation of novel iron‐based catalysts for FTS and CO_(2) hydrogenation.Current challenges and future catalytic applications are also outlined. 展开更多

Heterogeneous catalysts with ultra-small clusters and atomically dispersed(USCAD)active sites have gained increasing attention in recent years. However, developing USCAD catalysts with high-density metal sites anchored in porous nanomaterials is still challenging. Here, through the template-free S-assisted pyrolysis of low-cost Fe-salts with melamine(MA),porous alveolate Fe/g-C3N4 catalysts with high-density(Fe loading up to 17.7 wt%)and increased USCAD Fe sites were synthesized. The presence of a certain amount of S species in the Fe-salts/MA system plays an important role in the formation of USCAD S-Fe-salt/CN catalysts;the S species act as a"sacrificial carrier"to increase the dispersion of Fe species through Fe-S coordination and generate porous alveolate structure by escaping in the form of SO2 during pyrolysis. The S-Fe-salt/CN catalysts exhibit greatly promoted activity and reusability for degrading various organic pollutants in advanced oxidation processes compared to the corresponding Fe-salt/CN catalysts, due to the promoted accessibility of USCAD Fe sites by the porous alveolate structure. This S-assisted method exhibits good feasibility in a large variety of S species(thiourea,S powder, and NH4SCN)and Fe salts, providing a new avenue for the low-cost and large-scale synthesis of high-density USCAD metal/g-C3N4 catalysts. 展开更多

Spherical polystyrene‐supported ammonium salts containing different linking chains between the support and ammonium groups were prepared as efficient and easily reusable heterogeneous catalysts for the cycloadditions of CO2and epoxides. The effects of the length of the linking chains and a hydroxyl group pendent on the linking chain on the catalytic performance of ionic liquid immobilized catalysts and their mechanisms were studied through experiments and density functional theory calculations. It was found that, compared with a short linking chain,a long chain can make the halogen anion more negative and provide a larger contact area of the catalysts with the reactants, thus enhancing the reaction kinetics. The hydroxyl group can stretch the C-O bonds of the epoxides, promoting the reaction thermodynamics. As a result, for the cycloaddition of propylene oxide, the yield of propylene carbonate is much higher for the catalyst with a long linking chain(yield:91.4%)compared with the yield for that with a short chain(yield:70.9%),and is further increased in the presence of pendent hydroxyl groups(yield:98.5%).The catalyst also shows a high catalytic activity even at mild temperature and good reusability(yield:≥96%for10cycles),and the selectivity is always above99%. 展开更多

Post-synthetic treatment of high-silica as-made ZSM-5 with organic template in the micropores was explored to reduce/remove the external surface acid density of ZSM-5. It is found that Na_2H_2 EDTA treatment can selectively remove the surface Al atoms, but generates new acid sites(likely silanol nests) on the external surface. H_3PO_4 treatment is unable to remove surface Al atoms, while small amount of P is left on the external surface, which effectively decreases the acid density. The catalytic performance of the resultant materials is evaluated in the methanol conversion reaction. H_3PO_4 treatment can effectively improve both the catalytic lifetime and the stability of propene selectivity. This occurs due to a combination of the increased tolerance to the external coke deposition and the depressed coking rate(reduced side reactions). Na_2H_2 EDTA treatment only prolongs the catalytic lifetime, resulting from the improved tolerance to the external coke deposition. Under the optimized H_3PO_4 treatment condition, the resultant ZSM-5 gives a catalytic lifetime of about 1.5 times longer than the precursor. Moreover, the propene selectivity is improved, showing a slight increasing trend until the deactivation. 展开更多
