They discovered 30 graves from the Han to the Song periods, including six excavated, of which three are earthen-pit burials of the Western Han period, two brick-chambered of the Eastern Han, and one brick-chambered of the Song period. These graves are small in size except for medium-sized earthen-pit M3 and M4 of the Western Han. Among the funeral objects the most important is a gilt bronze belt with an Ordos-style buckle at either end and shell pendants on the body. This is the first discovered Ordos bronze belt in the Three Gorges region.展开更多

Through surveys it was known that they belonged to four types in structure:the earth shaft, arched brick- or stone-chambered shaft or cave, archless one of the same structure, and rock-cut tomb. Based on the material of the 19 tombs excavated, the author divides the cemetery into four phases,i. e. the mid Western Han,late Western Han,Wang Mang period and Eastern Han. The 300 or so intact pottery objects yielded represent a large variety of types and complete evolutionary sequences, and provide criteria for the periodization of the Han period tombs in the eastern Chongqiong area. According to the distribution pattern, structure and funeral objects of the tombs, the eastern area of this cemetery must have been a clan graveyard and can exemplify the evolutionary pattern of couple joint burial during the middle and late Western Han period. In addition, the author discusses the meanings and profound implications of four symbol-incised pottery vessels and six pottery figurines.展开更多
