Methods: This study used a convenient sampling method, selecting a total of 524 junior high school students from Siyuan Experimental School in Chenxi County, Huaihua, and Mayangshui county middle school in Lufeng Town, Xupu County, Huaihua, who filled in “Self-Esteem Scale (SES)”, “Children Loneliness Scale (CLS)” and “Parental Psychological Control Scale”. Results: 1) The overall level of parental psychological control of middle school students is moderately high, while the overall level of self-esteem and loneliness is moderately low. 2) According to the research, the level of parental psychological control is negatively correlated with self-esteem (r = −0.537, p r = 0.138, p r = −0.584, p < 0.001);5) The mediating effect of loneliness was certainly of the essence. Conclusion: 1) The higher the level of parental psychological control, the lower the level of self-esteem of junior high school students. Besides, their level of loneliness would increase with the raised control level;2) The higher level of loneliness is accompanied by a lower level of self-esteem;3) Loneliness played a mediating role in the relationship between parental psychological control and the self-esteem of junior high school students.展开更多
