Wild pink bayberry free phenolic extract induces mitochondria-dependent apoptosis and G0/G1 cell cycle arrest through p38/MAPK and PI3K/Akt pathway in MDA-MB-231 cancer cells

Polyphenol-rich foods have been shown to be good for cancer prevention as powerful antioxidants. In this study, the mechanisms of wild pink bayberry free phenolic extract(WPBFE)inhibiting the proliferation and inducing apoptotic of MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cells was examined. The main phenolic acids and flavonols in WPBFE were gallic acid((18.83 ± 0.44)μg/g FW)and myricetin((1.52 ± 0.05)μg/g FW), respectively. The maximum inhibition rate of WPBFE at non-cytotoxicity dose(below 80 mg/mL)was 81%. Western blotting analysis showed that WPBFE could cause the arrest of cell cycle in G0/G1 phase by down-regulating expression levels of PCNA, CDK4, cyclin D1 and up-regulating the expression level of p21. Meanwhile, WPBFE induced apoptosis through initiating the mitochondrial death pathway by up-regulating cleaved caspase-3 and enhancing the ratio of Bax/Bcl-2, with the maximum expression levels of 1.29 and 2.03 folds that of control group, respectively. Further study of the upstream protein, we found that WPBFE down-regulated TRAF2, while upregulated p-ASK1, p-p38 and p-p53. Furthermore, WPBFE could down-regulate the expression of p-PI3K and p-Akt. These observations indicated that WPBFE might play an anticancer role through regulating the p38 MAPK together with PI3K/Akt pathway. 展开更多

This work first describes a simple approach for the untargeted profiling of volatile compounds for distinguishing between white duck down (WDD) and white goose down (WGD) based on resolution-optimized GC-IMS combined with optimized chemometric techniques, namely PCA. The detection method for down samples was established by using GC-IMS. Meanwhile, the reason of unpleasant odors caused by WDD was explained on the basis of the characteristic volatile compounds identification. GC-IMS fingerprinting can be considered a revolutionary approach for a truly fully automatable, cost-efficient, and in particular highly sensitive method. A total of 22 compounds were successfully separated and identified through GC-IMS method, and the significant differences in volatile compounds were observed in three parts of WDD and WGD samples. The most characteristic volatile compounds of WGD belong to aldehydes, whereas carboxylic acids from WDD were detected generated by autoxidation reaction. Meanwhile, the main reason of unpleasant odor generation was possibly attributed to the high concentration of volatile carboxylic acids of WDD. Therefore, the constructed model presents a simple and efficient method of analysis and serves as a basis for down processing and quality control. 展开更多

In this work,molecular structures,dynamic mechanical properties and glass transition temperatures of microbe coagulated natural rubber(NR) samples were analyzed by using pyrolysis gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(py-GC/MS),rubber process analyzer(RPA) and dynamic mechanical thermal analysis(DMA).And the cross-linked network structures and mechanical properties of the corresponding NR vulcanizates were further determined by using nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR) crosslink density spectrometer(XLDS-15) and universal testing machines.The results show that NR raw rubber produced by rapidly coagulated with microorganism exhibits a simple molecular structure composition and good dynamic mechanical properties,and the corresponding NR vulcanizates possess the aggregation structure of high cross-linked density,a high glass transition temperature of-61.5 ℃ and high mechanical properties(tensile strength reaches 25.2 MPa),as compared with that coagulated with acetic acid. 展开更多

Rice husk ash/natural rubber composites were fabricated by modifying rice husk ash with the rare earth coupling agent DN-8102. The structure of the rice husk ash and the morphological dispersion of the rice husk ash in a rubber matrix were charactered by scanning and transmission electron microscopy, respectively.The mechanical properties of the composites were experimentally studied. The surface energy and the interaction between rice husk ash particles can be reduced by surface modification of rice husk ash with a rare earth coupling agent, which reduces the agglomeration of rice husk ash in both liquid and rubber matrices and enhances the interactions between rice husk ash and the rubber phase, and thus results in improved mechanical properties for the resulting rice husk ash/natural rubber composite. The modulus of the composites will increase as the loading level of modified rice husk ash increases. A maximum tensile strength of 25.96 MPa for the composites can be obtained when the modified rice husk ash loading level is 4%. 展开更多

Nano-cellulose materials are widely believed to have the potential to push polymer mechanical properties. The cotton cellulose was dissolved in ionic liquid (1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride ([Bmim]Cl)), and then was isolated by high pressure homogenization in a homogeneous media. The nano-cellulose was obtained at 80MPa for 30 cycles. The geometry and microstructure of the cellulose nano-fibres were observed by SEM and their particle size analysis. FTIR, XRD and TGA were used to characterize changes to chemical functionality. Particular emphasis is given to the physical and chemical characterization of these nano-fibres together with their thermal stability and crystallinity, in order to develop their suitability. 展开更多

Rule of similarity and latex compounding techniques were combined for the first time to prepare natural rubber/nanosilica (NR/SiO2) nanocomposite with core-shell nanosilica-poly (methyl methacrylate) (SiO2-PMMA) particles and PMMA-modified natural rubber matrix (NR-PMMA). The micro- structure of SiO2 and nanocomposites with different SiO2 contents was characterized by fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR); the morphology of nanocomposites was investigated with scanning electron microscopy (SEM); the tensile strength was characterized by tensile testing machine and the thermal stability of composites was studied by thermal gravimetric analysis. Results showed that PMMA chains have successfully grafted onto the surface of SiO2, and the core-shell SiO2-PMMA nanoparticles and NR-PMMA latex have been perfectly incorporated. SiO2-PMMA nanoparticles are evenly distributed over the NR matrix with an average size in the range of 60-100 nm at the low content (SiO2≤ 3 wt%), while aggregations are apparently observed when 5 wt% SiO2 is loaded. In addition, NP/SiO2 composities possess a considerable improvement in ageing resistance compared with the pure NR. The tensile strength of composite increases from 6.99 to 12.72 MPa, reaching the highest value at a 0.5 wt% SiO2 loading, and then the figure decreases gradually because of the aggregation of SiO2 nanoparticles. It is anticipated that the reported process is to provide a simple and economic way for preparing NR composites. 展开更多

The natural rubber/zinc disorbate composite was prepared by the in situ formation of zinc disorbate from zinc oxide and sorbic acid in natural rubber. The structure variations of fillers during mixing and vulcanization processes were studied by X-ray diffraction(XRD) and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR). The effects of zinc disorbate amount on processing performance and glass transition temperature(Tg) of compounds and the mechanical properties of vulcanizates were also determined. The XRD and FTIR analyses results indicate that the zinc disorbate is formed from the reaction of zinc oxide and sorbic acid during the mixing procedure followed by graft copolymerizing with NR molecules to form composite networks during vulcanization, which is initiated by dicumyl peroxide. Thus the mechanical properties of NR-based composite are increased significantly and Tg shifted towards to higher temperature. 展开更多

The aim of this work was to establish a method that the 6 synthetic pigments in compound wine were determined by HPLC.The synthetic pigments in the compound wines were extracted by liquid-liquid extraction, separated by C_(18) symmetry chromatographic column, with 0.02 mol/L ammonium acetate and methanol as the mobile phase with gradient elution, the sample was detected by diode array detector.The test results showed that the artificial synthetic pigment in 0.20-20 μg/L range of concentration had a good linear relationship(r>0.999 2), the detection limits were 0.000 16-0.001 04 g/kg, the recovery rates were 82.0%-97.0%, the relative standard deviation were 0.7%-3.5%. The method was simple, rapid, high sensitivity, good separation effect and can be widely used in the daily inspection work. 展开更多

It could be concluded that the method could be applied to determine 25 inorganic elements in bamboo shoots. The elements with a dry basis content higher than 10 mg/kg were listed in the order of content decrease as follows, basal part of bamboo shoots: K > Ca > Mg > Mn > P > Al > Fe > Zn > Na;bamboo shoots meat: K > P > Ca > Mg > Mn > Fe > Al > Zn > Na > Ba > Sr;bamboo shoots shell: K > P > Mg > Ca > Mn > Al > Fe > Na > Zn;B, Pb, Cu, Cr ranged from 1.0 - 10 mg/kg;Ga, As, Se, Cd, Sn, Sb, V, Co, Ni were lower than 0.80 mg/kg. The harmful elements Cd, As, Cr, Hg, Pb were commonly monitored in feeds. The wet basis content (mg/kg) of Cd, As, Cr was lower than: 0.028, 0.022 and 0.42 respectively;no Hg was found;the content of Pb(mg/kg) in basal part, meat and shell of bamboo shoots was 0.82, 0.35 and 0.41 respectively. The results provide basic data for the development of bamboo shoots and its byproduct. 展开更多

[Objectives]To alleviate the influence of meteorological conditions on soil environment(temperature and water content)and maintain high and stable grain yield.[Methods]Taking Sunzhen Experimental Station of Weinan Academy of Agricultural Sciences as the experimental base,the effects of returning double-crop wheat and corn straw to field(Twm),returning single-crop corn straw to field(Tm),returning single-crop wheat straw to field(Tw)on soil temperature,water content,straw decomposition rate and nutrient release,soil organic matter and bulk density were studied systematically.[Results]Twm treatment could effectively alleviate the effects of meteorological conditions on soil temperature and water content.The decomposition rate of straw treated with Twm was 4.7%higher than that of Tm treatment,3.8%higher than that of Tw treatment,10.5%higher than that of Tm treatment,and the decomposition rate of straw showed a trend of"first fast,then slow and then fast".The release of nitrogen from straw was basically similar to that of straw decay,and the release of potassium and phosphorus increased at first and then remained basically unchanged.The release rate of potassium was the highest,followed by phosphorus and nitrogen.The content of soil organic matter in Twm treatment increased by 11.67%annually,an annual average of 0.998 g/kg.The soil bulk density of Twm treatment decreased by 0.058 g/cm^(3) annually,an annual average of 4.29%.The fundamental reason is that Twm treatment provides conditions(temperature,water content,nutrition)for microbial growth,reproduction,enzyme production and biochemical reaction,and increases the exchange capacity of soil and external water,heat,gas and fertilizer.[Conclusions]It is expected is to help people change their understanding of returning straw to field from"quick harvest"to"fertilizer transformation". 展开更多

Natural rubber (NR)/multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNTs) composites were prepared by combining self-assembly and latex compounding techniques.The acid-treated MWCNTs (H2SO4:HNO3=3:1,volume ratio) were self-assembled with poly (diallyldimethylammonium chloride) (PDDA) through electrostatic adhesion.In the second assembling,NR/MWCNTs composites were developed by mixing MWCNTs/PDDA solution with NR latex.The results show that MWCNTs are homogenously distributed throughout the NR matrix as single tube and present a great interfacial adhesion with NR phase when MWCNTs contents are less than 3 wt%.Moreover,the addition of the MWCNTs brings about the remarkable enhancement in tensile strength and crosslink density compared with the NR host,and the data peak at 2 wt% MWCNTs loadings.When more MWCNTs are loaded,aggregations of MWCNTs are gradually generated,and the tensile strength and crosslink both decrease to a certain extent. 展开更多

Natural rubber (NR) was reinforced in situ with nano CaCO3 that had been modified with methacrylic acid (MAA)(M-CaCO3).The structures and properties of the resulting composites were studied using attenuated total reflection Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(ATR-FTIR),scanning electron microscopy(SEM),and Mooney viscometer and mechanical tests.The results show that when NR is physically blended with CaCO3 and MAA,(Ca2+)-(–OOC) is formed in situ.When dicumyl peroxide (DCP) is added,the (Ca^2+)-(–OOC) self-homopolymerizes,and during the curing process poly-(Ca^2+)-(–OOC) is formed and grafts to the molecular chains of the NR via carbon-carbon double bonds.The NR/M-CaCO3 composites formed have close interfacial interaction and are well dispersed.Compared with the NR composites reinforced with unmodified nano CaCO3,the NR/M-CaCO3 composites have very different cure characteristics,rheological behavior,and mechanical properties,and these characteristics and properties show a significant relationship with the loading of M-CaCO3. 展开更多

The aim of this study is to present a novel semi-automatic coconut tree climbing device and validate its strength based on actual working conditions. Firstly, the structural composition and operational principal of this device is introduced. After that, the finite element model of this device is established with CATIA. Finally, the strength analysis is executed by means of CATIA. In this study, the equivalent stress, principal stress, and displacement contours are obtained. The simulation results show that the maximum stress of this device is below 355 MPa, which is the value of the yield strength. Therefore, this device is capable of satisfying practical application requirements. 展开更多

The aim of this study is to execute the fluid dynamics simulation of high speed jet under distinct input velocities (i.e., 114.1, 142.4, 165.6, 186.2 and 286.9 m/s). In particular, this study focuses on the impact velocity and velocity of two-phase flow (gas-liquid). Firstly, the three-dimensional geometric model of high speed jet is established on the basis of the actual operational conditions. Next, the unstructured grids of high speed jet are generated by means of ANSYS Fluent. Finally, the fluid dynamics simulation of high speed jet is implemented by using Fluent. The simulation results show that when the input velocity of the liquid increases, the impact velocity declines sharply, while according to the Bonuli law of conservation of energy, the impact effect on the device shows exponential growth with increasing input velocity. In addition, the relationship between the impact velocity and the input velocity and the relationship between the impact effect on the device and the input velocity are achieved, which could provide certain theoretical guidance for predicting the working pressure and velocity of high speed jet based on real input velocity. 展开更多

[Objectives]This study was conducted to clarify the appropriate nitrogen fertilizer amount and transplanting density that should be selected for different transplanting dates.[Methods]The effects of nitrogen fertilizer rate and transplanting density on the traits and yield of late japonica rice in the Jianghuai rice-wheat cropping area under different transplanting dates(transplanting at an appropriate time and delayed transplanting)were studied.[Results]The transplanting date significantly affected the heading,maturity and whole growth period of rice,and when the transplanting date of early-maturing late japonica rice was delayed by 15 d,the growth period was shortened by about 10 d.Nitrogen and density interaction obviously affected the dry matter accumulation and effective tillers of rice,and the dry matter production and effective tiller number of rice treated with B_(1)N_(2) were greater than other treatments.Under the timely transplanting date,the best nitrogen and density combination was 225-300 kg/hm^(2) and 250500 holes/hm^(2),and the nitrogen use efficiency was ideal.It suggests that under the condition of transplanting rice in a timely manner,applying nitrogen fertilizer at an appropriate rate while ensuring a reasonable population density is conducive to the coordination of the number of stems and tillers,the number of grains per panicle,etc.,thereby ensuring the best formation of yield factors in the middle and late stages of rice growth.[Conclusions]This study provides technical support and theoretical reference for reasonable nitrogen and density interaction of rice. 展开更多

In the present context, the objective of this study was to synthesize and analyze the content of AA of macadamia protein and the impact of hydrogen ion concentration (pH) on AA composition. The determination of AA mainly by cation-exchange chromatography was also investigated. Reproducible and reliable techniques for quantification and identification of AA usually require derivatization. However, techniques such as AA analyzer are composed of cation-exchange chromatography and other components can sideline the derivatization with significant accuracy. The present analysis revealed a higher concentration of essential amino acids especially acidic AA, Glu and Asp and basic AA, Arg than other AA in macadamia protein. The study constitutes first report of use of bubble chart for evaluation of AA and explaination of AAS. The results may elaborate that the degradation of AA of macadamia protein for extraction of pH 11 is caused by the impact of pH. Moreover, the nutritional values of AA present in macadamia protein could change for the better by adjusting pH of extraction. 展开更多

Macadamia protein was characterized by methods of DEAE cellulose cation-exchange chromatography and SDS-PAGE. Effect of Acid Treatment on the Saccharification of Wheat Bran Cellulose

[Method] Taking the wheat bran as raw materials, and using orthogonal method, the effects of acid concentration, temperature, times and substrate concentration on the saccharification were investigated. [Result] The influence of temperature on the acid treatment of the saccharification of wheat bran cellulose was significant. Influences of acid concentration on the hydrolysis were distinct. Influences of time and substrate concentration were insignificant. The optimal pretreatment conditions were 1.5% of sulfuric acid concentration and 0.067 g/ml of substrate concentration at 100 ℃ in three hours. Under this condition, the sugar concentration was 38.137 mg/ml, and the hydrolysis rate reached 51.485%. [Conclusion] The study improved the saccharification of wheat bran cellulose, which provided theoretical basis for the application of wheat bran industrial process. 展开更多

Natural rubber (NR) is widely used in various fields including aerospace, military industry and transportation due to its superior elasticity and comprehensive mechanical properties. Nonetheless, the commercial NR prepared by different methods usually exhibits different mechanical properties, primarily due to variations in processing conditions during the conversion from latex to bulk rubber material. Consequently, this poses challenges in scientific research and industrial production of NR. In order to assess the properties of various commercially available NR and identify key structural and compositional components, this study systematically compares and analyzes four representative NR raw materials: air dried sheet (ADS), ribbed smoked sheets (RSS), constant viscidity NR (CV), and whole field latex rubber (WF). The investigation focuses on evaluating their static mechanical behavior, SIC behavior, wear resistance, and fatigue resistance. The findings indicate that protein and gel content exhibit a crucial influence on the NR properties. These constituents contribute to the formation of a high-crosslinking density region, generating a heterogeneous network structure within the rubber. This structure amplifies strains during deformation, leading to earlier and stronger strain-induced crystallization (SIC). Among the four commercial NR brands, RSS demonstrates superior overall mechanical and dynamic properties owing to its high protein and gel content. This study serves as a valuable reference for comprehending the differences in properties among various commercial NR, thereby offering guidance for the actual processing and selection of NR. 展开更多
